He was convicted late last year for “predatory sexual assault on a child younger than 13 years old.” It was his (then) girlfriend’s 11yo daughter, it went on for months, he called her his “puppet,” and he threatened her even younger brother if he told.

I’m not a Nicki fan but that’s incredibly unfair. Close family members are always inclined to disbelieve the worst of members they have known all their lives. Especially when it’s so monstrous. In their case, they weathered an abusive father who set their house on fire together. Their bond wasnt formed in a sweet suburb somewhere, it was literally forged by fire.
Hers was a human reaction no different than the millions of sisters around the world blinded by love right at this moment. And it does look like something clicked when he was convicted. And if none of that is enough, how’s about abusers just pay for their own crimes without bystander women being penalised too.
This. Plus, it was Nicki and Jelani’s mother who posted his bail, not Nicki herself. Unless Nicki made some statement that I missed, it doesn’t look like she’s defended him. She’s been completely silent about it. Her reaction to finding out that a relative is a rapist has so far been much better than a lot of celebrities who learn these things about male colleagues and friends. Alec Baldwin, Lena Dunham, and plenty of others couldn’t even refrain from calling victims manipulative liars when it was just a friend in the industry being exposed. This is a time where there will be many women learning about abuses committed by (mostly) male relatives, employers, co-workers, or acquaintances. Unless these women smear the victims or it comes out that the women worked to aid or cover up the abuse in some way, I’m not going to going to jump on a canceling bandwagon.
Maybe my family is just odd, but we tend to believe the victim.
I totally understand Blake not wanting her kids photos out there for public consumption and wanting to sheild them from the spotlight but hasnt she brought them to events were photographed extensively?
They were at the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for Ryan’s star, I think that’s where we first saw both of them publically.
I guess they only want you to take pictures of the kids at public events and I get that, you wouldn’t want kids being stalked going to the grocery store or at school.
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Ryan’s Walk of Fame induction was the only time they brought out the kids. Lively doesn’t ever get “accidentally” papped with the kids.
I think they are serious about wanting to keep their kids private and give them lives that are as normal as possible.

Actually there have been pap pics fo them out and about in NYC with the kids and at airports (I remember pics from Toronto airport last year), dailymail posted those pics and kids’ faces werent blurred out, unlike with other celebrities kids. As far as I know, if the kids faced are not pixelled in european publications, it means the parents gave their consent for the release.
They get papped, but it’s pretty rare. Combined with low interest. This couple doesn’t hide them or make a big scene about privacy. Think to the major celebs in new York that run daily errands and live normal routine lives.

I grew up with my parents slinging a sh*tload of verbal abuse, triangulation and really awful fights, and it surprises me to no end to find married adults have relationships without coercion or domination by an angry person, or on the other side, submission out of fear because that was all I witnessed. If Sean tied up Madonna, I just cannot see him treating robin kindly.

Well, we KNOW who chose his awful first name (after Dennis Hopper, I heard at the time)–not his mum. And then he inherited his father’s face and his in-YOUR-face rebellion, so how’s he gonna ever not be a bit of a perennially troubled a-hole? I’d like to see him use some of that privilege to remake himself after the side of Sean that has a social conscience and tries to help the downtrodden, but…who knows?
I can’t believe people still thinks Penn’s so called social conscience is genuine and not self serving ego boost and desperation for looking relevant and intellectual. He’s never done any charity work without making sure a photographer or the press were around to document his “efforts”. Is just self serving PR: “look at me I’m not just a shallow celebrity I’m an HUMANITARIAN”. People should wake up and realize that 99% of the celebrity charity work is just PR. Is also a lot about business and tax benefits: whenever an actor starts to make big bucks they’re advised by their financial managers to start a charity ASAP. The real, genuine and heartfelt charity is done silently and without photographers around and we’ll never heard about.

Supposedly he uses his charities as a cover to do shady things in foreign countries. He is an awful person. Probably one of the worst in Hollywood. If someone said he had been evaluated by a team of psychiatrists and diagnosed a sociopath, I would believe it.
His only redeeming quality was his talent. Supposedly he loves his kids, and it is probably true but not enough to get his act together.

Her money comes from marrying a banker and then doing business in the Middle East. Let aside the blinds about his charity in particular, but the truth is that in Haiti the sexual trafficking is huge and the dirt behind the millions of dollars the charities involved move without any control and auditing is real, then considering that despite the millions involved little has changed since the earthquake happened and the devastation is still a sad reality. As usual a corrupted government is involved: the same government that named Penn Ambassador at Large. Oh, and they named Penn’s ex squeeze Petra Nemcova Ambassador as well. Oh, and the same Petra Nemcova went from dating Penn to dating the Haitian Prime Minister within months of distance. Yes the same Prime Minister who’s friends with Penn and who named him Ambassador. Shady? yes, shady….
Uh… the whole point of getting a celebrity involved in your charity or similar endeavor is to get the publicity that they can engender. That doesn’t mean anything bad about the celebrity. It’s actually their job. If they don’t call the media, then the charity will.
If I do charity work, all the charity gets is my labor because nobody cares what I do. Pictures of me are worthless. If someone like Sean Penn shows up, the charity gets tons of publicity and resulting donations. Celebrities are very valuable to charities for that reason. They don’t need more anonymous workers, they need the cameras that come along with celebrity.

When a friend opened an orphanage in Haiti (years before I knew her) Penn with a few others were on a list. They seek out causes and charities for themselves, but everything comes at a cost. It was only alluded to. They donate and bring awareness in return for privacy and looking the other way to what else they do. Donations ensure protection.
@jwoolman I think you’re probably talking about a totally different thing. Penn’s charity was founded by himself and that shady woman I’ve cited before: Diana Jenkins. You probably are talking about Save The Children, UN, MSF, etc. In that case of course the goal is to have the most exposure with the most famous they can get. Bring awareness to other charities already working and without the celebrities getting their hands on the cash flow is a totally different thing and not Penn’s case. Not Di Caprio’s case and others. And even with the charities that I’ve mentioned before they also face huge shady stuff regarding money and power. See Amfar. The whole charity/celebrity connection is a huge black hole with incredibly amounts of money going through not so clean hands. Is not just because they’re oh-so-socially-conscious, giving back and all the stuff they sell to us.

I’m actually surprised he doesn’t have a string of out of wedlock kids around the world…is actually surprising that both Sean and Robin managed to just have these two kids with all their on-off brouhaha over the years. I think Sean and Charlize broke up also for that reason: he didn’t want more kids and the break up happened suspiciously right when she was in the process of adopting her second child. On the other hand I’m not sure Robin is completely done with children though, if we go by the fact that she just got married to a 30 something French hottie without kids on his own and that right before him she was engaged twice to the Scientologist guy, also in his 30s and without previous children. Is a mystery to me why she would get serious with these guys if not because she wants a family too. Maybe she wants to adopt or has had her eggs frozen or whatever.
The CT/SP break up imo took more than just the desire to start a family. CT ghosted penn hard. Suddenly no communication and the red carpets had major physical distance. Along with no questions to her on that topic.

@Florc yes I know that something bigger and serious might have happened between them , not *just* IMO his reluctance to get really serious with Charlize to start a family with her. But I’ve never believed the ghosting thing starting because she totally denied the ghosting. Not only: true that they kept their distance afterwards and they barely talked to each other at Cannes but she did greet him with a very affectionate kiss at the Cannes screening and he was the one who seemed cold and distant t her. It was weird and if you see the photos, or better the videos, the body language seemed to tell a different story. In any case I agree that something more must have happened, probably regarding his violent behaviour and remember that strange incident with her kid screaming and people calling the cops. Also is safe to say that he still has issues with Robin and keeps talking crap about her after all these years and that must have been a huge red flag to Charlize, so I’m glad she’s out of that.

I figured that because those kids were not raised in LA-Sean and Robin made the decision to live in Ross, CA (very chi-chi burb of SF in Marin County), their kids might be immune to the typical Hollywood excesses. (Not that Marin rich kids aren’t immune from drugs/partying-but it doesn’t have that same “celeb” culture that LA has.) Alas-they both seem like they have a lot of issues.

I know that area well – I know there have been meth problems in Hastings over the years. Small Midwest towns off the freeways/trucking routes are really susceptible to drug issues.
