Angelina Jolie did a documentary with Queen Elizabeth about forest conservation

Queen Elizabeth II receives guests at Buckingham Palace

I still love these photos. These are the photos from Buckingham Palace in 2014, when Queen Elizabeth II presented Angelina Jolie with an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George. That was the day The Villainess Jolie became Dame Angelina Jolie. The reason for Jolie’s honorary damehood was “services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war zone sexual violence.” But as it turned out, the Queen also loves Angelina for another reason: Angelina’s long-standing commitment to environmental causes and conservation efforts around the world. Angelina’s environmental and conservation efforts include (but are not limited to): her demining and conservation of tens of thousands of hectres of jungle in Cambodia and the funding and continued patronage of a wildlife sanctuary in Namibia.

While Prince Charles gets a lot of attention and respect for his focus on environmental causes (even before “the environment” was a celebrity cause du jour), Queen Elizabeth has cared about the environment for decades too. It was said, nearly a decade ago, that QEII was actually very concerned about global warming and looking to use her position to do more and say more about environmental causes. Some of that is coming to fruition now: the Queen is creating a new initiative called the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy. She wants a global project to protect native forests around the world and to grow more. Apparently, Angelina Jolie got involved too!!! There’s a documentary coming out in Britain called The Queen’s Green Planet, which is about her love of forests and trees and this new initiative. Dame Angelina appears in the trailer!!

I want to know how this happens. Obviously, Angelina has been to Buckingham Palace, so the palace knows how to reach her. Does the Queen’s secretary call up Angelina and say, “Yes, the Queen would like to know if you would appear in this documentary she’s making about conservation?” Is that how it happens? If Angelina got that call, I would imagine that it’s an immediate “yes.” That might also explain why Angelina has visited England several times in the past year – she and the Queen were having some quiet production meetings about the documentary!!

Also: if it is a competition (it is not), then Angelina just aced Brad Pitt. “Oh, you’re hanging out with a beautiful professor? That’s cute, but I’m making movies with the Queen. You remember, the same Queen Elizabeth II who dame’d me? Have fun with your professor!”

Also, did you guys see that Iceland will be phasing out and completely stopping sales of products that use Palm Oil? Hopefully Waitrose, with their royal warrant, will be next. I know I criticize the royals for being useless, but totally on board with Queenie’s canopy.

    • LAK says:

Iceland?! The supermarket that’s never found a food item it couldn’t freeze and thus ruin it?!

      Impressive.

      • Clare says:

@LAK Yep that very Iceland – it was all over the news this morning. I would shop there JUST because of this, if there was one near me and if I hadn’t had my soul crushed by their awful Pizzas as a student. lol

    • Josie says:

All palm oil or non-sustainable palm oil? So many products contain palm oil I can’t see how sales can be stopped for those products.

Edit: all palm oil in their own-brand products. I thought you meant Iceland the country. The argument being that no palm oil is a sustainable product.

      • SK says:

As Josie said – people need to distinguish between Palm Oil in general and Responsible/Sustainable Palm Oil v Unsustainable Palm Oil. It is a very understandable kneejerk reaction to want to stop using Palm Oil at all but unfortunately it is unrealistic. Palm Oil is the #1 vegetable oil used in the world and it is in EVERYTHING. It is truly disturbing how many products it is in. If we were to get rid of it literally millions of products would need a replacement vegetable oil and the next best one uses something like 10x the land to produce the same amount of oil. This is not a good solution. So rather than pushing for NO palm oil, the best thing you can do is lobby your government to enforce legislation whereby products must clearly list all palm oil ingredients as either Palm Oil or Responsible/Sustainable Palm Oil. Then lobby for international efforts to enforce strict checks on which companies can claim to be Responsible Palm Oil and the KPIs they must reach in order to claim that title. Then consumers can vote with their wallets and leverage monetary pressure on the palm oil companies to be sustainable and responsible. It is actually possible. There are responsible palm oil producers already – indeed, Papua New Guinea has had a relatively sustainable palm oil industry for some time (although there have been some nasty corporate attempts to change that).

NB: Sustainable palm oil means producing palm oil in a way that sustains and advances economic growth, is respectful to the environment and local people/cultures, yields social benefits and improves a country’s market competitiveness for this agricultural export.

Everywhere on gossip sites they are selling how beautiful and genius Neri is, they are saying basically how an upgrade she is from Angie. People tend to forget without degree Angie is very smart and educated than anyone Brad ever being with before.

    • Maya says:

Not to put down people with education but some of the smartest people I have met don’t have diplomas or degrees.

      • Fa says:

They are putting down Angie by not having degrees. Evil Angie narrative continues and will never stop. Anniston was sweetheart compare to Angie and this woman is more beautiful and genius than Angie.

      • Go Figure! says:

Good for Brad’s new love. Maybe she can make him look smarter.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

And even more important, hanging out with educated women isn’t making Brad Pitt any more educated. If he wants he can go to school and earn his own glory.

      • Zapp Brannigan says:

@Whoarethesepeople exactly her achievements do not make Pitt any more educated but he has a habit of taking on a partners personality or achievements as his own. He is a complete blank slate. Can’t wait to see his new “professor” personality.

For all the “he traded up” chatter from pr it might serve them well to remember that AJ is the woman who is the mother of his children.

      • LadyT says:

Pitt’s avid interest in architecture and design has been common knowledge for years.
Jolie is the “Professor” teaching in London.

    • Rumi says:

That’s Brad’s PR, upgraded Angie, beauty and brains. They are overselling Neri too much. They need to tone it down. She is beautiful, intelligent and accomplished. Not the first not the last.
Sad really she is the mother of their 6 children. Brad is really missing a sensitivity chip.
I seriously side eye the monarchy but any efforts for conservation of forests, anything to protect and restore our planet i respect.
Angelina you keep on doing you! You are doing great.

      • harlequin says:

Agree. She is pretty striking but not more beautiful than Angelina, IMHO.

      • Maya says:

Yes Neri is beautiful but come on, the only person who may beat Angelina at her peak is Elizabeth Taylor when she was at her peak.

Angelina was breathtakingly beautiful around 2004 but then lost weight due to personal reasons.

Now she seems to gain those lost kilos and she is getting back to looking hauntingly beautiful again. No competition at all for her in the world, expect maybe Deepika Padukone who is absolutely stunning.

      • Shijel says:

ah yes, two white women and a light-skinned Indian woman, the most beautiful in the ENTIRE world, no competition

      • Guest says:

@maya – I agree what you say about Angelina.

I know everyone find Neri strickingly beautiful- I don’t – I just don’t see it.

      • Maya says:

@Shijel – you seriously have some issues as you seem to try and turn my opinion into something racist.

Unlike you I don’t see beauty in people’s skin colour but instead I focus on their features and aura.

I am a firm believer that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      • Tan says:

@Maya right? Although, I thinj Sushmita Sen can give Angie competition. That’s one gorgeous, strong beautiful woman.

@shijel: oh you are allowed to pick your most beautiful woman in the world. Maya is not the Queen of picking pretty women.

      • Elizabeth Rose says:

Honestly, I’ve always thought that hands down, South Asian/Indian women were the most stunning. Although I am mixed black and white, I grew up watching Bollywood movies with my bestie and my goodness, the women were “out of this world” beautiful. That’s not to say that I don’t find Angie beautiful as well but just overall, I’ve always been enamoured with South Asian women.

  3. Fa says:

The reason his team tipped page Six, they knew about this documentary.

  4. Fa says:

Neri is more than a professor, she do photos shoot for her articles. She loves the camera more than Amal Clooney.

    • Clare says:

Eh, lots of academics love the camera – see Michael Scott, Mary Beard, Brian Cox etc. TV shows based on academic research are their own little cottage industry, and it’s not a bad thing as I think it makes content more accessible and easier to digest for ‘regular’ people. So please can we refrain from attacking the new girlfriend because she ‘she do photo shoot’?

    • MostlyMegan says:

Nothing wrong with loving the camera when it’s your job to be present in the public realm as a barrister, educator, business person etc. Why is this a criticism (loving the camera) only levelled at women? Are women just meant to be hiding in the kitchen or what?

      • Norah says:

not really but when amal for example popped up she was there as a lawyer now she is everywhere showing off her wardrobe etc but has she actually won any cases ?

    • Go Figure! says:

Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, that’s a lotta love for a camera then. May be she’ll give Pitt a run for his money in this category too. LOL!

  5. kate says:

So the older guy she was supposedly seeing in England turns out to be.. Her Majesty^^? You cannot top that.

  6. lower-case deb says:

    the queen’s wit is amazing.
    and oh Sir David.
even in this place so far away from England, Sir David has somehow taught me many things about the world’s flora and fauna, ecology, ecosystem and our place in it; and now with better technology continues to teach my children!

i’m so amazed at the excitement he shows at everything, even at 90 something, like he is discovering things for the first time!

i’m so glad we have the opportunity to talk about Sir David in a celebrity gossip site. and he was such a dishy young man back in the day too…

    • Hazel says:

I love anything David Attenborough produces. I still remember his nine-part series on birds; fascinating! I can’t wait to see this documentary.
As for this global initiative, I think it sounds like something Charles would have developed. Whomever (& it’s no doubt a team effort), it’s a great idea.

  7. Maya says:

So good to see the Queen fight for the planet and it’s extra wonderful that Angelina is part of it. They both have decades of experience in fighting for the nature and animals.

The link here is not Queen but David Attenborough who has worked with Angelina a few times now. He could have asked her if she wanted to collaborate with the Queen.

As for the Neri, please Angelina has never once attacked nor criticised another woman and she won’t start now. If anything, Angelina’s close friends are all similar to Neri – beautiful, educated, accomplished in their chosen field, independent and strong.

Angelina would be happy if Brad dated someone like Neri since Neri can be an inspiration towards her 3 daughters.

PS: if Angelina really wanted to play the PR game then she could easily have arranged a photo up with her and the truly wonderful Queen Rania. Those two have been close friends since early 2000.

    • Rayan says:

Rania isn’t liked in Jordan because of her overspending and corrupt family members. I love her fashion game and I love that she’s so outspoken, but I think certain Queen’s and Princesses are idolised far more internationally.

  8. Digital Unicorn says:

Seems that semi retirement (scaling back on the duties) has been good for QEII and we’re getting to see more of the real her and things she’s passionate about. There was the one 9n her coronation earlier in the years. She seems to be relaxing and allowing access to make these kinds of documentaries that until now has been unheard of from her.

    • Maya says:

Unlike Queen Sofia, I feel Queen E wanted to fully retire years if not decades ago. The country wasn’t ready to accept Charles as King until last few years so she was kind of forced/resigned to continue to be full time working Queen.

      • LAK says:

Old age is forcing her retirement, not Charles or his standing in the polls.

He is going to be King no matter how unpopular he is. She can’t stop him or it.

We don’t do voluntary monarchical retirement in Britain and Charles will simply have to wait his turn like Prinny and Bertie did.

That wait has nothing to do with HM or charles. She isn’t living long to thwart him. She came to the throne as a young woman and she has turned out to be extremely long lived.

      • notasugarhere says:

No, she has not been longing for retirement but didn’t step down because of Charles. She swore an oath to God that she would serve until death. The UK and Denmark do not have the tradition of abdication.

      • Cee says:

QEII was anointed in her Coronation. She will be Queen until she passes. If Charles outlives her, he will be King until he passes.

Unless something terrible were to happen, terrible enough to endanger the Monarchy in itself, I don’t see how abdications work in some countries.

The Netherlands has this tradition in place, and the Monarch is not anointed.
We can see how abdication is Spain is not working out to well.
It might have worked out fine in Belgium, though. Unlike Spain, the two Kings and Queens know their place and act accordingly.

      • Grumpy says:

Yep they don’t retire in the UK, hence the famous phrase “The [King]/[Queen] is dead, Long Live the [King]/[Queen]!

  9. minx says:

Angelina looks so elegant greeting HM, love her outfit, hair, shoes.

  10. Joy says:

I’m so happy to see Angelina flying, it’s been a minute. Looking forward to this documentary & it’s lovely that the Queen is concerned about the environment and doing her part. Angelina has the link to N/a’an ku se with the Van Vureens and the Shiloh Wildlife Sanctuary, and all the work the Maddox Foundation does in Cambodia with deforestation and conservation so this makes sense.

    • lower-case deb says:

isn’t the one in Cambodia in dispute because of Khmer links?
anyway, was going to say that i keep forgetting that the Maddox foundation is not just about landmine clearing and orphanage and injury rehabilitation but also forest conservation. i suppose it is a natural progression from clearing landmines… to rehabilitate the land.

      • Joy says:

Nope not as far as I know. The foundation bought the land many years ago from someone who had been a Khmer soldier (I stand to be corrected). I remember the fail last year trying to ” make it a thing” with one of their hit pieces with some faux “investigation” so perhaps that’s what you’re referring to? But as far as I know the foundation has continued with their work unabated. That’s how she and Loung met, as she’s also involved in demining efforts. The foundation also has a clinic, they provide medical services and recently included dental care too.

      • lower-case deb says:

i don’t think i read that DM “investigation”, i tend to avoid DM deliberately unless my blood pressure is really low. i suppose i could’ve unwittingly read some site somehow quoting them. but anyway, DM is trash.

glad to hear also that the foundation has widened its scope of services.

      • Joy says:

Yeah I don’t read the fail either, they’re not getting my clicks. That place is the worst. Such stories tend to get shared amongst fans, this one was shared because it was full of nonsense and we all got angry about it. In an ideal world, all fans would ignore such obvious nonsense. But yes you may have unwittingly seen it somewhere, though I don’t remember it getting much traction. But other than that , I don’t recall any talk about the land or the foundation.

  11. Toot says:

Angelina looks great in the clip.

    • Pandy says:

Yes, she really does! Happy to read about anything that promotes conservation. Yay!!!

  12. Betty says:

    Boring

    • Peeking in says:

You know what they say about opinions and a$$es…

    • BorderMollie says:

To the contrary, this is probably one of the most important topics today. Nothing is more important to our planet’s health than primordial forests and the maintenance of deciduous secondary forests, and we’re removing both at alarming rates which is a huge contributing factor to climate change.

      Not boring.

    • flan says:

Too difficult a topic for you?

    • Georgie says:

Little girl, the Justin Bieber fan page is that way —>

  13. notasugarhere says:

“That one we won’t look at. Somebody sat on it I think.” – HM

And people think she isn’t funny.

  14. Lousie says:

    PR

    • Georgie says:

PR for a great humanitarian and for a great cause. Maybe you want to join little Betty at the Justin Bieber fan page? Maybe this topic is too adult for you.

  15. Anastasia says:

This makes me wish I got iTV. Is there any way people in the states can see this???

  16. FishBeard says:

So everything they do will be treated as a competition right? Rather than two people trying to live their lives and accomplish good things.

I can see that people have already started to attack Neri’s achievements and appearance, and all because she *may* be dating a super famous dude.

    • hogtowngooner says:

Because she may be dating *Angelina’s ex*

That’s why Neri’s being attacked on this thread.

      • LadyT says:

I think it has little to do with Brad and everything to do with there only being room for one, Jolie, at the tip top of the worshipper’s pedestal. Therefore Neri has to be diminished.

      • Monika says:

Some people are criticizing this Neri woman, NOT because of Angelina… BUT because Brad’s fans are trying to diminish Angie with this woman. Also, Brad’s PR people are exaggerating the beauty and accomplishment of this woman, they are trying to make her the next Amal Clooney.

      • Rayan says:

Spot on, Lady T. I see no exaggeration of Neri’s accomplishments in the media. She’s a well educated, intelligent, gorgeous woman.

  17. Olive says:

Reading the comments here comparing Neri to Angelina grates me greatly. The former is an academic, design genius who is doing pivotal and futuristic work around biological design and architecture, and the latter is an accomplished actress and a global humanitarian.

Both women in this case have sowed their own seeds of success, in their own right, in their own fields, and in their own way.

To reduce them to a comparison against each other based on beauty and superficial profiling, and pitting (pun not intended) them against each other just because of some man… is utterly unfeminist, rude and backward.

There’s a quote that says just because you are educated doesn’t mean you are literate (the latter being with the ability to comprehend and deduce situations fairly). I really expect more from the women reading this site that we be both educated and literate.

  18. Hmn says:

    I’d rather watch a movie

  19. serena says:

Angelina is always at the top!

  20. prissa says:

I love the amount of eye contact happening in the pictures above of Ang & the Queen. Simply beautiful!

  21. Jessy says:

    Neri is beautiful

  22. Tata Mata says:

Deforestation happens for plantations and cattle. People have to eat something.

  23. Adattack says:

Is anyone else having trouble reading the comments and stories with all the new advertisements on the site? Please put them to the side where they belong.

    • Georgie says:

I am. I thought it was just me. I am reporting them all as ‘ad covering content’. Maybe if we all do the same, Celebitchy will get the message.

  24. Claire says:

What’s propelling that plane Angie is flying around?

  25. Nibbi says:

I’m not down with “pitting” or comparing these two beautiful, intelligent women against each other, as Olive said so well above. Ranking them on comparative beauty or accomplishment simply around their status as “women of & around” Brad Pitt is gross and degressive.

That said, I’ve *no* problem commenting on “him vs her” in comparative awesomeness 😉

So while the press coverage is all about Brad “feeling well” and good for him and who he’s now perhaps shtupping and how it looks good on him- (ie how HER relative intelligence, beauty, and accomplishment reflect on HIM, if i may point out….)
… Angelina’s only news is , frankly, more productive and interesting and positive for the world- conservation work, activism. So yeah in that sense she’s aced him (again and forever, yeah I’m a bit of a Stan) because I think it’s an accomplishment in itself to make news for actions of this sort rather than the typical new romantic involvement stuff. That stuff is fun and it’s normal we pay attention and gossip and everyone’s got their personal life, but let’s be honest, she’s out there doing more. She just seems like a humbler and less self-interested person.

Perhaps that’s also because i feel most media coverage of them & their breakup has been so disgustingly sexist tho, and I’m reacting to that. It’s all Brad! Alone! Out!! Looking debonair! He’s healing! Who’s he gonna be tappin’ next! !!… while she’s more quietly off taking care of their kids and just coming out to be seen promoting her film and activist projects. She’s just a more serious person, I’m starting to think, and good on her. Boo for the media making such a hubbub about him dating, as if that should somehow outweigh our interest in the art and progressive social projects. I feel like the coverage of them post-breakup reinforces & reflects superficiality and the misogyny that still remains in our culture.
