Katy Perry spoke last week at the Vatican and The Cura Foundation’s fourth annual conference on global health. At the Unite to Cure event, Kate spoke about using transcendental meditation in lieu of prescription drugs in her battle with anxiety. For this, she decided to dress like an 80s prom widow. I don’t have a problem with the outfit – it’s respectful and I love the hat – but being that it’s Katy, it feels like cosplay. But I might just be jealous because even though I am not Catholic, I would give anything to shake Pope Francis’ hand. He is a beacon of hope at at a bleak time.
But Katy is also clearing up a few things, like how she has finally found a “label” for her on-again love, Orlando Bloom. Last week, ET asked Katy if she’d date an American Idol contestant and she demurred that she was already “spoken for.” We already knew who she was talking about, but Katy recently posted an Instagram story in which she introduced those in a car with her as her mother, Mary Hudson, and “my darling”, Orlando. So that settles it, they are Darlings and the Pope blessed them – if that’s not official, I don’t know what is.
Five days after Katy Perry confirmed she was “spoken for,” the singer traveled to Rome with Orlando Bloom — and the pair got a chance to meet Pope Francis!
The 33-year-old pop star was seen placing her hand over the Pope’s during their meeting on Saturday, while Bloom, 41, was all smiles as he stood beside her.
Perry wore a black veiled hat and a matching black ruffled dress for the special occasion, while Bloom opted for a black suit with a matching tie.
Perry also proved that no matter where her journeys take her, she can never pass up an opportunity to show off her silly side.
“Never not being me,” she wrote alongside a video showing Perry unsuspectedly following a group of marching men wearing bright uniforms.
Those “marching men wearing bright uniforms,” were The Swiss Guard, of course – the people who’ve sworn to protect the Pope. That wacky chanteuse! As for Katy and Orlando becoming darling-official, meh. I like both of them and it didn’t sound like they were terrible to each other before so if they’re back together, good for them. I suspect Orlando might even ground Katy a little bit. I know Orlando is a big advocate of mediation and yoga so they have much in common. He’s a practicing Buddhist and Katy was raised fundamental Christian, I wonder if that had a hand in their earlier breakup. I know Katy has changed her religious views dramatically, but I don’t think her parents have. Which gives this outing much more credence – if “mama” Mary has approved of Orlando, maybe this thing is more serious than we thought.
I guess celebs get meet the Pope as easy as that now.
For the love of God I hope she asked to be blessed that her hair grows out QUICKLY.
I really like them as a couple, they kind of make sense. I think he would be fairly supportive and not worried about her fame, and she seems like a kind person. Neither of them are geniuses, but they aren’t vapid either, so I think they are pretty well suited.
Same here. I like that they don’t hesitate to be themselves and enjoy it too. They’re doing their best to learn and do good in life and that’s a path few embrace so good for them. I like genuine people. They seem a good match.
I thought the same but then a good & trustworthy friend… who works managing customer-facing teams that are frequently interacting with celebrities… told me that she called one of his employees “fat boy” to his face while asking him to do something.
It sounded so outrageous that I didn’t believe him but my friend says it happened in front of him and a couple of other people and everyone heard the same thing.
I like these two together although Orlando will forever be linked to the child Bieber…
LOTR was on tv last night and reminded me just how beautiful Orlando (and I do mean beautiful – that bone structure) Orlando was in his prime.
Disappointed that the Pope is spending so much time granting an audience to celebs who then use it as PR.
One of the reasons I stopped going to Mass. I’ve seen so many parish priests who love to hobnob with the wealthy and powetful. Then ignore the rest of the congregation.
This looks like it was at a general audience and the pope meets a lot of people – sometimes even famous ones – at a general audience. It’s not like he had a private meeting with her.
I think they work, too. He can oversee a men’s line for her shoe company, too, perhaps (bringing him full circle back to Elizabethtown, actually!). She is probably a bit of a relief for him after Toddlerhead, anyway.
And I am happy they enjoyed the Meet A Pope Celebrity Package.
I hope these two get married and have babies! No idea why I care but they work as a couple – hope they can make it!
Katy sure has a way of not letting exes go, ever. She is always on off a ton of times.
Am I the only one in the universe who has never messed with an ex? Am I the weird one? I just feel like if someone is stupid enough to let me go, then they dont deserve me.
He’s a vast improvement over some of her previous BF’s, i could never fathom why she married Russell Brand, who i loathe.
Also I got front row tickets to see Bloom in his new play in London next month, Killing Joe.
I got all excited about this Pope…until I read up on his policies and his advisers…and what’s REALLY going down in the Vatican…and…just like that…the excitement ended…same as it ever was…unfortunately…as for Katie…I RARELY say this about anyone…but regarding her…

I kind of knew the would reunite because I think they are age and lifestyle appropriate. Hopefully this time is for good since I have the feeling that Katy has move on with her life and she feels ready to settle down.

She’s wearing exactly what protocol states that you wear to meet the pope: Black, a veil, long sleeves, and a high neck.
She’s 33? Hard to believe…maybe it’s the bad haircut and harsh hair coloring, but I thought for sure she was in her late 30’s…
Wonder if that handshake was Katie and Franny agreeing that the old convent is legally hers now and that Franny won’t listen anymore to the nuns beefing about Katie stealing their old house.
I don’t know why Orlando is so universally derided, I think he is a gorgeous man and always has been, I’d go for him in a second.
