Kim Kardashian is sort of like Ivanka Trump, in that Kim and Ivanka both like to “counter-program” for their families by posting happy-family-type images on social media during bad newscycles. The Trump administration loses 1500 immigrant children? Ivanka posts a photo of one of her children. Kanye is out there saying slavery was a choice? Kim conveniently posts some ‘grams of Saint or North or Chicago. It’s all pretty obvious, for both Kim and Ivanka, although in Kim’s case, it’s not like Kanye has any actual power to destroy lives or bomb anyone, so Kim’s counter-programming is less annoying to me.
All of which to say, Kim is definitely trying to deflect from a lot of Kanye’s crap these days. The Whitney Houston bathroom photo? The bad reviews of Kanye’s album? The whole Pusha-Drake beef which Yeezy wants no part of? I don’t know. But Kim is trying. She posted an Instagram story about North West receiving a special birthday gift from Alexander Wang: a “micro purse” with a leopard print. The purse retails for $750 but North got it for free as a personal gift from the designer. It looks like Wang sent North a second purse too. The child is FIVE.
That being said… I would defend Blue Ivy and Beyonce if this happened, and I’m sure it did happen – I’m sure designers send tons of stuff to Blue Ivy on her birthdays. We just don’t mind it as much because we feel like Beyonce is a more legitimate celebrity than Kim. And Beyonce’s not trying to counter-program for anything. And Beyonce isn’t out there, Snap-bragging about all the freebies too.

I hope Kris has the business sense to let her play with those purses once for a photo shoot and then sell them off. Put the money in a trust for her emancipation/education.

I’m not really a Kardashian apologist but designers send celebrities free things as advertisement. They SHOULD be Instagramming, Snapchatting, getting photographed with items. That’s WHY they send them. It’s a reciprocal deal, no?
I was going to say the exact same thing. Kim puts this stuff on her Instagram because it’s a great way to thank the designers for the gifts by exposing their brand to her millions of followers. This is what they should be doing as a thank you for expensive designer gifts. It’s just common courtesy.
I agree with your comments about celebrity/brand advertisement but I think the difference here is that a 5 year old is getting sucked into a PR machine.

I just can’t get over all of the narcissism I just endured! SO over the top.
She even received 4 completely blinged out containers of Vaseline; was that a gift from Vaseline? Really?
Let’s be honest, if this were Blue, there would be literal tons of comments tearing her personally apart for being a brat, spoiled, selfish, a future serial killer, etc because of what people chose to send her. Because it’s North? Crickets. Mind you, I’m not saying it’s appropriate in either case (kidlets really don’t control the presents they receive) but it’s…interesting.
I think it’s because of a love factor. Partially at least. Kardashian gets plenty of criticism, and it’s basically unilateral and ubiquitous. Beyonce has an emotionally-charged fan base. She presents herself entirely different than Kardashian in that she obviously ascribes to her own extreme heightened level of stardom, goddess…diety lol. Because of this, dissention is louder, more acute. It’s not about liking KK more, it’s about leveling the scales so to speak.

Once again a famous “trash-tv” mum makes herself the the focus of her selfies-whith babies, but slightly less so than the equivalent I’ve seen of Kylies and her aunt (?) who’s had child recently, I don’t remember her name. The one who uses snapchat filters so heavily that the skull of her otherwise really cute-looking baby looks difformed.
At least Kim seems to be making the effort of sharing the spotlight with her kids, instead of stealing it.
