‘Never say never’ to Kim Kardashian running for political office at some point

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West celebrate daughter North's Birthday at the Polo Bar in NYC

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and North West out and about in New York this weekend. It feels like the Kardashian-Wests were doing a week-long celebration for North’s fifth birthday – the birthday girl got multiple parties, shopping excursions, ice cream, candy and lots of paparazzi. Whenever I see North, I’m just struck by how much she looks like Kanye, and how Kim always says that North is so much like Kanye. Honestly, I hope North grows up to be more like her mom, but we’ll see.

Meanwhile, Kim’s entire interview with Van Jones aired on CNN on Friday. She did this interview soon after she convinced Donald Trump to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson. Kim has basically been doing a (well-earned) victory lap in the press ever since, but I’ll give her some credit: this experience had a positive effect on Kim. It’s like she suddenly realized she has more power than she ever knew. She might make a habit of this, personally lobbying dictators and politicians. Or she might run for office. That’s what Van Jones asked her – whether she would consider running for president:

The Alice Marie Johnson commutation has opened her eyes: “I honestly saw that if I could use my platform just to do something for one person, that it opens the conversation for so much more and for other people to want to do the same thing. If more people would just put their personal feelings aside and talk about really important issues that have to be discussed, then so much more can get done.”

Whether she would ever run for office: “I guess never say never. But that’s not going to be like, Kim’s running. That’s not where I am.”

[From CNN]

I’m including the short video clip below – Kim is pretty clear that she’s not completely shutting down the idea that she could run for office, but truly, that’s not where she is right now. Besides, I actually think that IF Kim did run for office some day, she would actually want to work her way up – like, she would run for mayor of Calabasas (or mayor of LA), then maybe governor of California. Then after a few terms as governor, she would run for president, because why not?

I have no comment on this…like none. Nothing surprises me anymore. But I would like to know why Kim dresses like it’s Winter when it’s hot outside and dresses like it’s Summer when it’s cold?

    • Capepopsie says:

      I agree!

    • Jordan says:

Fashion seasons. Right now fall is what’s on the majority of the racks at stores but it’s especially what’s on the run way right now. People stupidly buy things the Klan promotes. She’s wearing her husband’s line so she’s also ‘modeling’ the clothes with these outings. So basically: free advertising of the Yeezy fall season.

    • minx says:

Did Kim potoshop that picture before it was published? She and North look especially enhanced.

      • me says:

Doesn’t she make deals with the paps? She tells them where she will be in exchange they must photoshop the pics before releasing them.

      • minx says:

me—makes sense. She and North are practically glowing.

  2. Inad says:

    MAKE IT STOP.

    • Saras says:

Real educations for real jobs! No more fake it till you make it reality politicians.

    • Morning Coffee says:

Exactly. “Because why not?” I can give about a million reasons why not. Ugh….Please.

      • Anika says:

“Because why not?” One of the stupidest, most obtuse, ignorant comments and perspectives I’ve ever heard, literally. I thought nothing could shock me, after 45’s sickening policies, but I was wrong. And from a “feminist” who is a “fan of Bill Clinton”, what else could I expect?

    • Mrs. Wellen-Melon says:

2030: Mayor Kim of Calabasas – “No tax on elective plastic surgery!” – first politician to star in a reality series (“Keeping up with Kalabasas”)
North and Penelope head their own reality show (remake of “The Simple Life”)

It will NEVER end. There will be great-grandchildren to continue the franchise.

I’m sorry, but I am not on board about this. Celebrity should not be the ad hoc modern qualifier of how someone runs for office- regardless of the cause. We need real community leaders, people who do the right thing with or without a camera, we need civics back in the classroom …we need so much.

I truly worry how we are handing down democracy to future generations… I never thought that I’d see this country in the political state that it currently is in. Celebrity is not a qualifier! We need humble people with credibility– no more reality TV people!!

    • pk says:

You need more qualifications and work experience to apply for a job at the Mall than you do to run for office in America. It’s ridiculous. You should have to have years of work/volunteer experience and some education. Not to mention a good voting record. Kim voted for the first time when Obama ran…Kanye doesn’t vote at all.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 The problems with government are structural. Throwing people in based on outsider status does NOTHING to change it, because they’ll either conform to the status quo (see trump), or get thrown out due to being ineffective.

You want people to start caring about government/start seeing real changes. Make things like AP Gov/Civics mandatory in high school classrooms. Impose term limits on politicians. End Citizens United. Have a media that actually uses reasoning and asks tough questions of their elected leaders instead of trying to get soundbites 25/8. Stress the importance of an engaged constituency vs. an apathetic one. A million more ways to have an impact I’m sure. Let celebs use their influence for causes they ACTUALLY care and are KNOWLEDGEBLE about. If they decide they want to go into office after they’ve really researched what it’s about and entails/they’re passionate about it go ahead and have the outcome decided at at the polls. But to be all “I have this following, so, like, why not haha” no. Pass hard af.

Lol every other job position of importance people research and demand the right qualifications and credentials so they feel at peace knowing they have the right person for the job. Why does this stop all of a sudden when it gets to the chief office of the state?

    • minx says:

It’s not just her celebrity that is a problem, it’s her.

  4. anna222 says:

I sincerely hope I’m dead by the time this happens.

    • Pandy says:

Honestly – that was pretty much my response. Can you imagine?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
And her even THINKING this is something to be considered.

    • Eileen says:

      Ditto!

  5. nikzilla says:

No more celebrities in office please!

  6. Beth says:

    No! Never!

  7. Melania says:

    Enough with this woman.

  8. Valerie says:

I think the US is currently learning a lesson about electing a celebrity millionaire for president.

  9. df says:

I’ve read that post comparing the trumps to the kardashians. basically how fame hungry they are, how we didn’t take them seriously, how they tried to get into reality tv to increase their fame, politics to increase their fame and that’s literally where we’re heading if the kardashians get too much power. they’ll run as a ‘publicity stunt’ but then they’ll win and they’ll do anything for more coverage.

  10. Lynnie says:

“Honestly, I hope North grows up to be more like her mom, but we’ll see.”

Lol what. Is this in regards to physical looks or attitudes? If it’s looks, aren’t those still changing? Regardless she looks fine to me. If it’s attitude lmao hell nah. North would be better off shunning both her parent’s dispositions and becoming a more rebellious version of her late grandmother. What will happen in reality though? She will probs end up being a close copy of her mother, since I’m sure that’s who she spends the most time with, but it won’t be a positive influence seeing Kim’s priorities and vapidness and all. Plus isn’t Kim a product of PMK attitude and all? Why would you ever want that passed down 🤦🏾‍♀️

    • FHMom says:

I’m pulling for that child. I hope North grows up to be like neither of them.

      • Artemis says:

I don’t know this child but I’m hoping for criminal defense lawyer and totally ignoring her family’s shenanigans. Anything that’s different than the usual trajectory for celebrity kids. I hope that for any celeb kid tbh.

    • me says:

      “If it’s looks, aren’t those still changing? ” – Kim’s or North’s lol?

We don’t need another Kim Kardashian…let’s hope North is her OWN person and nothing like her parents.

    • Babs says:

Yeah I hope North will never be her mother’s puppet like Kim is, and that she will grow up with confidence and strong opinions, so, I guess more like Kanye.

  11. JennyJenny says:

    Delusion runs strong here…..
Hey Kim, why not just become a brain surgeon or something else?

  12. HK9 says:

I remember an episode of their show, where they were doing an event at a department store, someone asked Kim a question and Khloe has to answer it for her. Yes, make her a politician….I’d have jokes until I died.

  13. MelB says:

Oh for f**k’s sake. No. Celebrity and a good deed does not qualify anyone to run for office.

  14. S says:

Sometimes it’s OK to say “never” (HINT: This is one of those times.)

  15. S says:

Sometimes it’s OK to say “never” (HINT: This is one of those times.)

  16. S says:

Sometimes it’s OK to say “never”. This is one of these times.

  17. Boxy Lady says:

I saw somewhere that Kim would want to be a lawyer first before going into politics. That kind of transition might be good for her. And maybe it could inspire her brother to go to law school instead of just talking about it.

    • minx says:

KK enduring the detail and dedication of law school? Doubtful. And even for doubtful for Rob.

  18. hogtowngooner says:

Popularity is not a qualification for public office. There is so much more to being an effective public servant than soundbites and selfies.

I’m so sick of celebrities using public policy – something that affects millions of people daily – as a launchpad for their image rehabilitation, or a new fun hobby. It’s not.

  19. Lowtalker says:

This country elected Emperor Orange, so ……

  20. Amelie says:

Why is North’s hair stick straight all of a sudden? What happened to her beautiful curls?

    • me says:

Makes me wonder did North ask for her hair to be straightened or did Kim suggest it? She’s too young for that. Why damage your hair at such a young age? Her natural hair is so beautiful and really suits her. Now she seems to be morphing in to Kim’s actual mini me. Poor thing.

  21. K says:

    She will crush it!

  22. Cara says:

Lord have mercy!!! Maybe someone will educate Kim on what the POTUS does and what a big deal it is. It’s not just something cool to do to make your Instagram story more interesting. What is this world coming to?????
