They’re alive! The soccer team that was missing in the caves in Thailand have been found. All 12 boys and their coach are alive!

  2. minx says:

We can expect a Kim nudie any second now.

    • TurkeyLurkey says:

I thought she gave that up because she’s an activist now… Kind of like Kylie gave up posting pictures of her kid. Both lasted about 5 seconds because you know neither can go through a day without trying to get some attention.

Wish this was true and the family is on their way out but time will tell.

      • Alisha says:

@turkeylurkey I think they finally are on the way out, it is just taking a long time. With all of the crazy and scary things happening that are dominating the headlines, perhaps less people are caring what Kim does. The only reason Kanye was getting headlines is because he went political. Kim may have figured that out, I expect more “activism” from her in the future.

I don’t know why people still pay attention to Kylie though.

    • me says:

Her “nudes” don’t work anymore. We’ve literally seen it ALL. At this point, the only thing that will get her in the news is maybe a “divorce” rumor…or she’ll beg Kanye to go on another one of his “twitter rants” for attention. She could also go the “outrage the public” route by doing some more cultural appropriation and maybe using her kids as bait. Who knows.

Well, it is a day that ends in Y.

I really hope their 15 minutes are on 14:59.

Baby pictures. She’s posting pictures of Chicago

That’s got to be crushing her soul.

I don’t think Priyanka and Nick are trolling us. Do you have any idea how HOT it is in Mumbai right now? If he was willing to fly to India in the summer time, he damn sure loves her !

  5. Frosty says:

Kim didn’t make the list, but Kanye and Kylie both did. Hmm.

Re: the Trump as Voldemort references, JK Rowling has said Voldemort and the Death Eaters are a fantasy metaphor for Nazi Germany. Why not skip a level of metaphor and make the direct comparison?

    • jwoolman says:

Godwin of Godwin’s Law (invoked as a caution whenever people start randomly comparing opponents to Nazis in online discussions) has already given us all permission to compare the Trump people to Nazis. He says he freely does it himself.

  8. Norman Garza says:

My thoughts on Kim’s loss of influence.

    1) Kim is a narcissist especially these days with plastic surgery, botox, selfies, and wealth flexing
    2) Kim is insolent to the world around her, no longer discusses social justice or gun control
    3) Kim is largely propped up by E! Entertainment and other gossip media
    4) Kim is loosing her thunder to Kylie
    5) Kim is warming up to Trump thanks to Ye’s support of the president

  9. zeddy says:

Right… so the woman who was instrumental in getting a woman pardoned for an unjust crime is now somehow not all that influential. Mhm. Sure thing, Time.

    • Ye says:

Being influential with Trump isnt the same as being influential on the internet.

The Harry Potter thing….I’m usually one of those ‘read something that isn’t YA for once if you’re over 30’ people but the author nullified everything he had to say by making that crack about special needs students.

Also when you’re talking about a pop culture phenomenon that defined a generation AND wrote in fantasy metaphors for Nazi Germany, it’s not hard to see why the comparison is being made. Especially since a lot of people feel comparing the current era to the real thing is exaggerated and offensive to those who actually lived through that era, so going for the metaphor instead makes sense.

    • jwoolman says:

The author of that rant is kind of stupid. People reference such books and movies as Harry Potter because they are overwhelmingly popular, so most people will recognize the references. And the Potter books are very detailed and dealing with pretty serious issues, disguised by the magical themes.

Once you get rid of gratuitous sex and violence, as is the case for the sneered-at children’s and YA books, you have room for quite a bit of more interesting material. Good books aimed at younger people are often worth reading even if you are ancient. Fantasy books based on very different worlds are interesting because when well done, they take the what-if theme to a high level. If they stick too close to the present day situations, such as deadly dull science fiction that just transposes current military and wars to outer space in the far future, they can be boring. But Harry Potter books aren’t in the boring category.

      • teacakes says:

It was a stupid rant for all the reasons you said (media references major pop culture phenomenon, how is that unexpected?) AND tipped into full-on offensive when the author chose to mock special needs kids.

I’m not anti-YA by any means (some of my own teen-era fluff faves like Meg Cabot and Sarra Manning remain comfort reading to this day, and you will tear Harry Potter and Anne of Green Gables out of my cold dead hands), I just find it odd when adults of age 25+ say YA is the only thing they can read and behave as if you’ve insulted their grandma if you tell them that non-YA literature consists of more than stodgy ‘classics’ and literary awards bait and isn’t as bad as they claim. These are the kind of people who, in my experience, write goodreads reviews that consist largely and primarily of gifs. It’s just odd to see, considering that no teenager I know reads solely YA, they all at least want a go at the Agatha Christie or other stuff. I’m not really a fan of excluding genres or limiting reading, whether that’s by refusing to read books aimed at young people or refusing to read anything else.

I do think some of the new names on the list are interesting though, especially the music ones.

Namely, Korean boy band BTS – I thought they were your typical slick manufactured kpop band with especially crazy fans but then I listened to a couple of their actual songs (‘Dope’ and ‘Fire’ if anyone cares to know, plus a B-side named Go Go) and then looked up the lyric translations… HOLY SHIT is all I have to say. You certainly wouldn’t catch a Bieber or a Swift ever being this openly socially conscious in their music. And the band members do their own writing and composition too.
