Amy Schumer teased a pregnancy to promote her clothing line: crappy or smart?

I just moved to an android phone, a Samsung 8+ (not a plug, I had to pay full retail), after dealing with an iPhone 5s for years. As a frugal person it pained me, but the replacement battery on my iPhone was failing after just a month. (It’s not as hard to switch as I expected and the display is beautiful.) Anyway I installed Instagram because maybe I’ll start posting there and I also wanted to see the celebrity stories. One of the first posts I saw this morning was the one above! I got all excited that Amy Schumer was pregnant, like so excited that I didn’t even verify that the person she tagged in the post wasn’t her new husband. Then I went to desktop version to confirm and saw that Amy posted this video below backtracking. I’m including the transcript in case you can’t watch it and/or find Amy Schumer annoying in motion.

I always have a bump alert!

While sipping a cocktail in a beautiful open air bar (jealous) Amy said the following:

I am not pregnant. I am (drinks) not pregnant. My friend said it looked like I was pointing to a bump or something but I’m not. Leesa Evans and I created a clothing line for all sizes and shapes at a chill price point. That’s what I was trying to allude to, but thank you for thinking of my womb.

At least Amy didn’t tease a pregnancy for a whole day or even several hours. She posted that follow-up video about an hour after that first post. She knew exactly what she was doing and it worked. Plus, she cracked me up a little. This was smart and it’s a good business idea. There’s a call for more accessible clothing which is affordable.

Leesa Evans is Amy’s personal stylist and her philosophy is that clothes can help people feel confident. According to Leesa it all depends on what they’re comfortable wearing, whether it be jeans or a suit. She also encourages people to find the silhouette that flatters them and to use that in their daily uniform. She told InStyle last year that “Fabric and color are really secondary to shape. Shape is everything, and shape is what makes up our individual proportions that make up our silhouette.” Now I want to see the clothing line! This pregnancy fakeout worked in that I got interested and am reporting on it. The best fake pregnancy is still Monica Potter though.

thank you to @brandonmaxwell for a "i feel pretty" amazing dress! we ❤️ you!

I have to say ,I follow her on Instagram and it sure got my attention. So Amy Schumer. Why do pregnant women on Instagram pose that way with their hands cupped around the belly? I don’t remember posing that way when I was pregnant.

She knew exactly what she was doing and I rolled my eyes when I saw her post. Amy Schumer is up there with J Law for me, try hard and positively insufferable.
Maybe I am jaded, but I am tired of the “aw shucks I’m just a girl trying but not really” schtick, so over it.

Whoa— I went to school/grew up with Leesa, but had no idea what she’d been up to. Cool!

As one of the millions of women wearing a size 16 (or bigger, depending on the day), there is a lot of “accessible” as she says clothing, but most of it, celebrity or non-celebrity lines, is either frumpy beyond belief (ie what your grandmother wore in the 70’s) or just ugly and almost all is poorly made. Trying to find basics that are not embellished with fringe, beading, God awful patterns, etc. is ridiculously difficult, especially in stores as so many have moved most of their plus size online. Target used to be great for that stuff but almost all of it is online now & their sizing is too inconsistent and, well, sometimes you just want immediate gratification vs having to wait a few days.

OMG finding basics is the absolute worst! I have been saying this for years because it seems like every plus design has something extra tacked on. So frustrating.

    • Char says:

I agree. I live in a small (population wise) part of Canada and I can’t buy basic decent quality plus size clothing in store.

    • AmunetMaat says:

Feel the same way, Torrid makes decent basics but the price point is horrible. I can wear size M-Xxl in Target depending. Lane Bryant can be boring bit simplistic but the prices are insane. I miss my size 10 days with a passion. It waz easier to shop.

This woman is exhausting. I think it’s crappy only because she didn’t own up to the fake out. She faked like she didn’t plan it, that “her friend” pointed it out. That’s bs.

  6. HelloSunshine says:

Massive eye roll. She annoys me so much, and trying to pretend like her friend pointed out she was pointing to her stomach? That picture looks exactly like someone trying to figure out how to draw attention to their stomach without trying to be obvious

  7. Lotusgoat says:

She was pulling at the top, and it didn’t look like she was cupping her stomach. In the next pic when you swiped she was leaning against her hubby and laughing and also didn’t look pregnant. It’s so weird that people assumed that’s what she was doing- I didn’t think that for a second

  8. susiecue says:

I saw the original post and I didn’t think she was announcing a pregnancy *shrug*

No thanks Ive got enough wrinkled shapeless summer dresses
