Denise Richards may join Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: Good career move?

We just saw some rare paparazzi photos of Denise Richards out with her boyfriend. She usually keeps a very low profile, which is understandable given the fact that her ex husband is an abusive monster. She’s been spotted out lately and has been sharing sexy Instagram photos of her man, Aaron Phypers, whom she’s been with for about a year. (Interestingly enough, Aaron is the the ex husband of Denise’s neighbor, Nicolette Sheridan. Nicolette and Aaron divorced in 2016 and we haven’t heard anything about possible overlap.) The fact that Denise is coming out of her shell may pay off for her. She’s reportedly in talks to join The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

A source tells PEOPLE that actress Denise Richards is in talks to join the cast for the ninth season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“It’s not final yet, it’s very close,” says the source. “Everyone is really excited about the possibility of having her on board!”

[Denise] has been rumored to be in discussions with producers for years, but “the timing was never right,” says a second insider close to the show. “Denise has been wanting to join the show for a long time.”

“She’s a huge Housewives fan and watches all of the shows,” says the insider. “And she has close relationships with many of the women in real life, including Kyle Richards and Lisa Rinna. The timing was never right for her in the past, but the producers needed to shake the dynamic of the show up after a season without much conflict. She’s going to be a great fit. She’s not afraid of the drama. And she lives a glamorous, Hollywood life — which the show looks for.”

People reminds us that Denise had a reality show on E! called It’s Complicated which ran for two seasons up until 2009. I did not remember that at all. In terms of Denise’s career and level of celebrity this is a smart career move. We’ve seen much more of Lisa Rinna since she joined RHOBH in 2014 and it’s probably about time they mixed it up with a new celebrity. There’s a real trade off to becoming a caricature on reality TV though. Denise strikes me as a peacemaker and as someone who avoids conflict. (Remember how she took in Brooke Mueller’s boys temporarily and how she adopted a little girl? She seems like an open-hearted, nurturing person.) Those type of personalities don’t last long on the Real Housewives shows, which rely on conflict and feuds. Denise sounds like she’s prepared to bring it though, judging by the quotes in People.

With all the lawsuits against her ex husband, Charlie Sheen, and the way he’s threatened to sell her house, I can imagine that she could use the money and the higher profile. Plus she watches the shows and knows what she’s getting into. She’s not naive about the industry or reality TV, and it’s not like her acting career is on fire.

I’m sure she could probably use the money, but a Real Housewives Show? that seems like a desperate choice.

I’d do it if they would pay me!

We actually had a casting call type post in our local paper YEARS ago. (I lived the next town over from Calabasas, CA) My friend really wanted us to apply. No way!!!! Not in a million years. They would have to pay me WAY too much for me to even consider, and still probably not.

It will be a good move for her money-wise. I stated in a post last week about Bristol Palin, but gaining a social media presence will be huge in terms of more money. Right now Denise has 250K followers to Lisa Rinna’s 1.5M and that’s just Instagram, plug in Facebook and Twitter followers. That will mean a huge bump in pay for her in advertisers and endorsement deals. Considering that Charlie Sheen’s finances are rumored to be in the toilet, she would be smart to consider it.

    • Millenial says:

That’s what I was thinking, too. She probably realizes child support is going to (or already has) run dry, so she needs to diversify a bit. This is a really smart move and will make her a bigger celebrity and influencer.

Well she doesn’t have much going on for her, talent wise…so sure why not?

  4. Swack says:

    No, just no.

  5. Snazzy says:

I’m sure she could bring some Charlie Sheen gossip to the table that would really spice things up … I think this is a good move for her

No, no, a thousand times no. Especially if she puts those children in the scenes. They were rarely seen in her It’s Complicated show, surprisingly enough, because their father Charlie didn’t want them to do it. (But I doubt that he has much say in it this time or has enough functioning brain cells….) So that show focused on Denise and her wonderful dad, who had moved in with them after her mother died. I don’t know how I managed to watch so much of it, but back then I often had the tv on at odd hours while working. Maybe they reran episodes in the wee hours (that’s why I unfortunately know so much about the Playboy thing with Kendra et al.). In my defense, I only had the cheapest cable subscription.

I understand that she wants to maintain a certain lifestyle and Charlie is an uncertain source of support and she is an actor. But I wish she would not go the soul-sucking reality show route. It’s so damaging to relationships, families, and individuals.

Maybe we should have a GoFundMe to get her offers for something else respectable and generating enough $$$? Really.

I wish the whole reality show thing would vanish into whatever Pit of Hell it originally came from. It’s the modern-day equivalent of the Coliseum battles to keep us occupied and distracted as the Empire goes wild. And we’re not really getting the bread to go along with the circuses these days.

Putting her kids in this mess? Ugh.

  8. Pandy says:

I bet she’s be a great addition. Fingers crossed.

  9. Chaine says:

I wish people didn’t do this (these shows) to their kids. Hopefully she will minimize their involvement. They have enough baggage already with Charlie Sheen as their dad.

    • Molly says:

That was my first thought too. Those poor girls have had more than enough baggage in their lives. They don’t need this too.

  10. Steph says:

She didn’t just adopt “some girl”. She adopted her kids’ half-sister (Charlie Sheen knocked up one of his hookers). She’s been cleaning up his shit for years.

I remember watching It’s Complicated and thinking that she was like a real midwesterner and not a glamorous actress. Like she couponed and made casseroles. LOL!

  11. Naomi11 says:

I personally think she has zero talent, so yeah, this would be a good move for her. That is unless she has to speak. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
