Ivanka Trump is shutting down her clothing & accessories line, but why?

President Donald Trump hosts the White House Sports and Fitness Day

This news actually surprised me: Ivanka Trump is shutting down her eponymous clothing, shoe and accessories line. While Ivanka’s label was doing poorly in American stores, the Deplorables were buying her sh-t online, and from what I read months ago, her brand was still pretty strong in Asian markets. Still, her clothing was made in sweatshops and her most of her sh-t was overpriced. I haven’t seen any recent numbers, but I would assume that the Deplorables eventually stopped buying her tacky sh-t too. I’m also pretty positive that Ivanka is NOT shutting down her label because of any ethical concerns. LMAO. How quaint to think this feckless C-U-Next-Tuesday would care about “ethics.”

Ivanka Trump‘s namesake clothing, shoes and accessories brand is closing its doors. After 15 years in the fashion business, the First Daughter’s company, which she re-launched in 2014, will soon close down its operations, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

“When we first started this brand, no one could have predicted the success that we would achieve. After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners,” Trump said in the statement. “I am beyond grateful for the work of our incredible team who has inspired so many women; each other and myself included. While we will not continue our mission together, I know that each of them will thrive in their next chapter,” she added.

The move comes after Trump discontinued her fine jewelry line back in March 2017, a decision that was due to “commitment to offering solution-oriented products at accessible price points,” the New York Times reported. The jewelry line, with prices in the thousands of dollars, had already been dropped by Neiman Marcus before it was officially discontinued.

Just last week, it was also announced that one of Canada’s largest department stores, Hudson’s Bay, had pulled all merchandise from the brand off its 90 stores’ shelves across Canada, along with its website. The company also owns U.S. department stores Lord and Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue.

[From People]

Again, I doubt that Ivanka is discontinuing her line because stores across North America refused to carry it. She was still selling everything online, and that’s how most people shop. Plus, as I said, her label is popular in Asia. No, I think Ivanka is ending her brand because – GULP – she’s about to take a bigger role in the administration. I think she used to have one foot out the door because she thought impeachment was nigh. But with Brett Womanhater WhatsHisGuts about to be confirmed on the Supreme Court, she’s probably like “screw it, none of us are going to jail, let’s have a party.”

    Cause pimpin’ ain’t easy?

    • launicaangelina says:

      Ha!

    • magnoliarose says:

Cause no one was buying her crap and it became an internet joke maybe? Or her wealthy supporters smiled to her face and knew her cheap crap was a Noooope. Or the Deplorables talk a big game but her fashion stuffs? Not so much.
I seriously laughed so hard at this I doubled over and couldn’t speak for several minutes from hysterical re-laughter. This news was met with so much Schadenfreude that I thought I would explode. This made me so happy I had to call people to share.

I love everything about this. Deeply.

    • Honey says:

No it’s not and they should all get out of the game. The entire family needs to go back to NY and NJ to run there little scams and leave the rest of us alone.

That’s the problem with Bigly. He thinks his pimp hand is strong but it’s not and the entire world has now seen it.

    • Snappyfish says:

Poorly made knock offs have a short shelf life

    • Tosca says:

@Enough Already – thank you so much for that laugh I needed today !

  2. Darla says:

I don’t know why. But I know there’s a story here, because there is ALWAYS a story with the trump crime family. And eventually, we’ll probably find out what that story is.

    • Tw says:

I agree! There’s a story – probably a line of questioning coming that she is trying to extricate herself from. I seriously doubt it is because she will have a larger role in the gov’t. 45 is potus and that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to make a buck.

      • Jan90067 says:

Maybe she thinks if she closes it now, they can’t get her on money laundering through the companies? That those quid-pro-quo licenses she got from the Chinese (that netted her over $80M) will be scrutinized? There is NOTHING done by this Grifter/Grifting Family that is altruistic and/or done for the good of ANYONE/ANYTHING other than themselves.

Hey F.C. … hope Mueller is coming to get you, and your little lapdog (husband), too!

    • Dr Mrs The Monarch says:

I think it is suspicious too. Ivanka is always quick to slide out of situations that will tarnish her public image. I wonder if she is divesting most of her American assets to hide money overseas. You know, like a non-corrupt government official would do? 😉

    • laura says:

I haven’t researched it yet but I did hear speculation that she is making a lot of money from her recent Chinese patents and doesn’t need the clothing line anymore. I’ll have to find out if this is true but it wouldn’t surprise me.

    • NothahDay says:

Um. Because it’s all poorly sourced child Slaver labor and American mediais on the verge of blowing this up?

      • jwoolman says:

I think China has mandatory education, making it harder to have child slave labor. I think they can leave school at 15, but am not sure about that. They tend to be workaholics and will leave home to live where a factory is for a few years, making as much overtime as possible. Which is very stressful, but they also have other options today at least in or near big cities.

The cost of living is less so what looks like low wages here goes a lot further in China. I run into this myself in my translation work – colleagues who live in countries with a much lower cost of living can easily outbid me. I can’t even get rush rates any more since the recession a few years ago.

I would expect Bangladesh would be especially vulnerable to really bad working conditions and child labor, though. Don’t know about Vietnam.

    • magnoliarose says:

I know she stole most of her designs so there could be even more lawsuits coming. She is being investigated in New York. I am positive there was some money laundering involved and of course Russian investors. She is as corrupt as Crooked J and her father.
Her business was doing poorly for a long time anyway. When discount stores can’t even dump your stuff for nothing then it is a sign.

    • Honey says:

Perhaps money laundering etc. There is a back story though. Can’t wait to read about it. I wonder if she can accessorize her orange jumpsuit.

They are going to fall down based on RICO laws.

      • Kate says:

This is what I heard too. Her business is apparently a money laundering front and she fears attention has been brought to the fact, hence this abrupt closure.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

She’s either selling her share and moving it to an off-shore haven in front of the criminal charges daddy and his entourage will enjoy, or she is separating herself legally and being it under a false name or shell corporation ahead of Mueller’s big bang.

    • holly hobby says:

That business may be a money laundering sham too. Remember they wanted to shut down their foundation in a hurry before the indictments came from NY. It’s only that they are under investigation that the State wouldn’t let them shut it down.

It’s more than failure. I think they were doing shady shit in the company.

      • jwoolman says:

I suspect all their enterprises are fronts for money laundering. Trump Sr seems to have the magic touch of running businesses into the ground. His dad kept bailing him out as much as possible. People who have looked more closely at his businesses have noticed how relatively unprofitable they are (or even running in the red).

Trump was so dumb to run for President. Even if he thought he would lose and then get more money for a reality tv show, he should have realized that even a candidate gets more scrutiny than an incompetent businessman. He was able to bribe and threaten his way out of many investigations before, but now he’s dealing with investigators way out of his league.

Mueller has probably been looking at all of this, and he very quickly brought people on to his team who had experience with disentangling complicated international financial transactions. My bet is that extensive money laundering is going to be the major crime for Trump. Obstruction of justice is pretty obvious to me, but maybe he can wiggle out of that one. Likewise loads of campaign finance violations. But I think the money laundering will bring him down, and very likely was part of how the Russians got money to him and his campaign. My bet is that whiffs of that attracted the attention of investigators in conversations between Trump people and monitored Russians. I think Nunes must be involved, he panicked when he realized that the Americans on such calls had been unmasked on request.

  3. RBC says:

Who replaced Hope Hicks when she left the White House? Or maybe Sarah Huckabee Sanders is planning on leaving?

    • Swackd says:

There are already rumors that Sanders is on the way out and Heather Nauert and Kim Guilfoyle (Don Jr’s girlfriend) are being considered for the job.

      • Jan90067 says:

Hmmm…that’s interesting, about Brunette Barbie (the GF) being considered. She just left Faux News…

      • holly hobby says:

News was saying Kimberly did not leave under good circumstances. So you have that. I remember her when she was married to Gavin Newsom. She had a different face then.

      • justme says:

OMG she did totally have a different face back then. Holy @!

    • Enormous Coat says:

Hope is rumored to be coming back and Sanders is supposed to be leaving in the late Fall. I imagine this is a rebranding or transfer of assets – something related to a bigger grift.

    • Lightpurple says:

Those positions are way too low level to please the Most Corrupt Princess Nagini of the Most Sacred Horcruxed Vagina.

  4. Tanguerita says:

What I am interested in – how can you close a company that you are not a part of anymore? She is not supposed to be running it anymore, right?

    • Lightpurple says:

She has never stopped running it and has been using taxpayer funded resources to do so for the past year and a half.

  5. grabbyhands says:

I would agree – this decision has zero to do with ethics. If it had, this would have happened a year and half ago (holy mother of god, how has it only been that long?).

Either news is coming that it is selling embarrassingly horrible even among the Eva Brauns of 45’s base or there is some really horrible sweatshop story about to come to light, something they knew of and did nothing about. Although now that I say that, I don’t even think that they would care or worry about that -their base certainly doesn’t.

    • Lightpurple says:

Princess Nagini can’t spell or pronounce “ethics,” she is not concerned about ethics. She also has all those new Chinese trademarks Daddy got for her. Those won’t go to waste.

    • jwoolman says:

Their political base may not care, but the target customers may. I am unfamiliar with her stuff myself, but I’ve heard many people say they stopped buying it only because of her father’s name, starting during the campaign. They then say it’s reasonably priced, nice clothing and shoes for women working in offices and sales etc., places where you need to dress decently, need a good rotation of outfits, and won’t be getting too dirty. So people don’t seem to be complaining about the quality but rather about her and her father.

Many women in China seem to love Ivanka as a role model for professionals. Don’t know about other places in Asia. She doesn’t seem to be well liked in Europe, but maybe she’s not marketing there. Don’t know about Russia.

Ivanka’s and Donald Sr’s clothing is made in China, Vietnam, and Bangladesh and the fabric comes from such places also. She doesn’t seem to be a designer or maybe even a manufacturer herself, she just seems to license her name on the products. Maybe she handles distribution? Her name is mud now in the Western Hemisphere, though. Maybe she is quietly maintaining licensing deals elsewhere if people still like her in other countries. The tariffs would affect her clothing prices in the US but not in China, I assume, if they are made and sold there.

If she were smart, she would have branded herself as just Ivanka rather than as Ivanka Trump. That would have made it easier to distance herself from her father.
Maybe she just didn’t anticipate that the name Trump would so rapidly become a liability once her dad started opening his mouth in public a lot.

      • Amy Too says:

That’s what I think—that nobody wants to buy her stuff anymore bc they don’t want to support a trump and all that they stand for—and I think it’s hillarious. Her fathers horrible presidency, disgusting scandals, and horrendous character are tarnishing her brand and her company, and yet she has no where else to go besides to work for him in the White House. No one will associate with her anywhere else, no one wants to go into bussiness with her, she can’t monetize her name anymore, her personal “brand” and her reputation have been tanked, tarnished, and ruined for life because of her deplorable father, but now she’s stuck having to work with him, being associated even more closely with him. She couldn’t distance herself enough from him and his shitty administration to make money on her own anymore, so now she’s forced to lean into everything she was fighting to distance herself from before! And it will at best, lead to her name and personal brand being even more badly damaged than it was already, irreparably tainted by association with the very deplorables she was attempting to disassociate from, and at worst, lead to her being caught up in a slew of indictments that land her and her whole family in prison. I just can’t get over how perfectly ruinous it is for this feckless c-nt of a Grifter Barbie! No one deserves it more.

    • JennyJazzhands says:

This is the longest 4 years ever! Now, I know it’s not just me.

  6. Eleonor says:

I have always wondered what the hell she does there.

  7. Senaber says:

I think if there is a story here Dictator Drumpf will blast it out on Twitter the second he needs a new distraction.

  8. Beth says:

I believe she’s just going to change the name and not tell the public. Her company was successful until the world boycotted anything with “Ivanka Trump ” on it. I have to admit, it was fun watching store after store stop selling her junk which was not ‘made in America ‘

  9. Maya says:

Or she knows she is going to jail alongside her dear daddy.

    • Tanguerita says:

While I applaud your optimism I don’t believe even for a second that Ivanka is going anywhere, let alone to jail. These people never do. The only thing we can hope for is for the whole family just to go back to what they’ve been, a bunch of tasteless rich non-entities.

      • Naomi11 says:

I still hold out hope that this MOFO, and his entire family are going to jail. They are all a disgrace to this country, and has made our country a laughing stock.

  10. Slowsnow says:

It’s profoundly moving to see that when humans beings are decent, they are, indeed decent in their thoughts and actions: only a decent person could think she would close shop if appointed for a prominent role in the administration. No, she would see it as an advertisement platform.
There is probably some shady stuff going on. Or a less profitable business than she wants us to believe. Hopefully.

    • magnoliarose says:

True. She’s doing it because her sorry ass is in trouble. She has been skirting the law for a long time but now that the fool Cuomo is finally on board with going after the lot of them she knew she better bail. Just like her father did with his human trafficking front of a modeling agency. Ivanka is in trouble in New York.

      Asshole a l’Orange can’t save her.

  11. Lila says:

Well at least she won’t have to pretend like she’s wearing off-the-rack clothing from her own line anymore.

  12. minx says:

I do love that first pic of her, it’s so unflattering. She looks like an alien.
    Oh, yeah, and fck her.

    • girl_ninja says:

She does look alien like. Its quite unsettling.

    • Esmom says:

Her physical appearance makes me recoil, she’s so reptilian. In the second photo, her neck stretches for inches beyond her turtleneck. *shudders*

      • Darla says:

Yes! She IS reptilian. You are so right. I never put my finger on it. That’s it.

      • minx says:

I’ll grudgingly admit in certain photographs that are shot at an angle—she can look attractive. But when it’s a straight on headshot like this she just looks strange, even with all the plastic surgery. Borderline butterface.

    • tw says:

Even with bleached hair, nose job, chin job, botox and breast implants – she’s still not very attractive. And yes, fck her.

      • jwoolman says:

I think she looks good enough, but she would look much better with her natural breasts. I know women have all different sizes of breasts, but they just don’t look right on her for some reason. Don’t know exactly why I think that. Could there be something about the implants themselves that I’m subconsciously picking up as odd?

  13. Guest says:

In 2017, it was reported that her clothes were being labeled as Adrianna Pappel. http://fortune.com/2017/04/24/ivanka-trump-brand-relabeled-adrienne-vittadini/

It would not surprise me if she has a licensing deal to continue to do so and is just making this big statement because “ethics.” Complicit Barbie continues the grift just in a different form.

    • amanda says:

Ivanka Trump was relabeled as Adrienne Vittadini. That is not the same line as Adrianna Pappel.

      • Jan90067 says:

It’s the other way around: Feckless bought the AV line and renamed it. I wore some AV clothes (which were great!) when I was a teen/college, and I’m much older than F.C.

    • Alexis says:

This would make sense to me. Her name is hurting sales.

  14. Indiana Joanna says:

I don’t trust anything Grifter says. She lives in a bubble, looking down on drump’s base as easy marks. His base never bought her junk, but I think she’s found a way to resurrect her business when she wants. Also, could it be to protect assets? She’s under investigation for stealing from their foundation.

  15. JFerber says:

If so, we need to get the word out that Adrianna Pappel ( I doubt that she even exists) is actually Ivanka Trump. Don’t buy her shit under any name.

  16. Ladiabla says:

Aw man, I actually liked some of the Adrianna Pappel dresses (though I don’t think I ever bought one). I’m gonna have to remember that’s her brand now. Thanks for the info. I remember going to nordstrom once (before they pulled her line). My friend thought a pair of Nagini’s boots were cute and I was like hell nooo girl, you are NOT buying those. The salesman standing by just chuckled.

    • Lightpurple says:

Adrianna Pappel isn’t Nagini’s. She was using Adrianna Vittidini, not Pappel.

  17. Leigh-Klein says:

I do know that Hudson’s Bay in Canada has dumped the whole line. It wasn’t selling. Bye Felicia!

    • Who ARE These People? says:

There’s still some stuff at Winners/Marshalls in Canada, so shut it down, ladies!

      • Leigh-Klein says:

The prices are slashed beyond belief and it’s on the clearance racks. Still won’t even look at it; I just chuckle when I walk by the racks.

  18. VegasSchmegas says:

well that will open up a lot of clearance rack space at TJMaxx.

  19. Mel says:

A lot of stores dumped the line and if you go into TJ Maxx/Marshalls, stuff is marked down to death. The cost /profit margin probably isn’t good enough to justify making it. Oh well, it’s one more failure for Trump Family Businesses.

  20. tealily says:

I’d like to think that it’s in anticipation of some sort of impending legal investigation into [take your pick]. Maybe it’s being hurt by the trade war.

  21. Pandy says:

She’s out because she realizes her line was going under as no one wanted to carry it much longer. She can save face for not going under while pretending she wants to save the world.

  22. KidV says:

One of the funniest tweets I saw said something about “that will leave the 90% discount rack at TJMaxx/Ross empty”. LOL

  23. mela says:

    great news! she sucks!

  24. Nic919 says:

The story doesn’t mention how Hudson’s Bay has actually advised her in fall 2017 that they weren’t going to carry any of her stuff. The Bay is a mid to high end store in Canada and most women weren’t going to wear her garbage after the election. When Dump started going after Canada with the tariffs then the pressure got higher. Normally Canadians are ok with US stuff but Dump is an enemy right now because the tariffs will economically harm Canadians. This s only a tiny bit of karma coming. The Dump name is forever tarnished. Now we just need to be vigilant for companies she owns but have a different name.

    • Nicole (theCdnOne) says:

I love the Bay and was a frequent shopper there and after the US election, I wrote to them and said I would not buy another thing from them at all until they discontinued carrying her stuff. I know I wasn’t the only one of my friends to do so. After they posted their announcement I made a large purchase and wrote them and told them why I decided to come back.

Nice to think that those of us who have been voting with our wallet played a small role in this.

  25. Alexis says:

I don’t think she’d feel the need to close the company if she was taking on a bigger role in the administration.

Occam’s razor: the brand wasn’t turning a profit. It had become a vanity project; she can make more money doing other things now. Ivanka’s was never a hugely successful brand and her dad’s image took a bite out of her sales around the globe. Yes, even in “Asia.” I imagine it’s easier to fudge numbers in developing countries, so I am skeptical that her sales didn’t experience a slight downturn there, too.

  26. minx says:

I think this will sting because she liked the cachet of being in “fashion.” Even if she keeps the business going under another name, it doesn’t feed her ego. She gave the line both her first AND last name, she craved the attention.

  27. Dee says:

Her fake boobs are embarrassing. Imagine if men wore big fake bulges in their trousers! Exactly the same thing, to me.

  28. adastraperaspera says:

I hope it’s because she’s being pulled into her family’s legal quagmire. But, no evidence of that yet. Trump is flinging so much crap everywhere that it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on. Which his intent, of course.

There is probably an empty seat at the Kardashian house of horrors. They have been there with the Dash stores that apparently were a movie set point as in all show and no substance. If Ivana suffers a financial loss Kriss could take over and get her into show buslness starting with one night in Ivanka and claim that the film had been stolen from her private collection.

  35. Birdie says:

You guys do realize she will run for president, right?

  36. Henna'd says:

She’s mainly a wholesaler with only one retail outlet. If 50% of people (assuming 50% disapprove of Ivanka and her dad) aren’t stocking or buying, she’s in the red every month.

  37. pottymouth pup says:

this family’s issues violating the emoluments clause are fairly significant and my guess is she shuttered for 2 reasons: the sales were embarrassingly low & ahead of the ruling in the case brought by Maryland & DC https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2018/07/25/trump-loses-big-in-emoluments-case/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.bbc2e1a38e6b

  38. em says:

Apart from the likely hood that she is losing money maybe Daddy is about to drop a trade bomb on China…….wouldn’t look good that the daughters clothes line depends entirely on Chinese labour when the big bossy starts banging on about US jobs going to China.

    • Line says:

Yea, I wonder if this is confirmation that the China tariff is passing. I think most of her line is made in China and the latest proposed tariff is a full 10% increase on top of general duties and taxes.

  39. Anare says:

Whenever you question a decision like this, follow the dollar and you’ll get your answer. These grifters don’t do anything that isn’t bringing in dough. She’s probably been losing money on her crap since people first started the boycott. To save face she waited and finished up contracts as long as a store would still take her shit. Enough time passed the she figured people have forgotten about her junk that us being sold for peanuts now so she can spin some lame story while trying to save face and then shut it down. There might be 10 gals in China who think she is all that. And another 10 Mar a Lago wives who think her fashion line is nifty. To the rest of us she is a FC and the idea that she thinks she will remain active in setting public policy is hilarious. Get the hook.
