Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness: Justin Theroux is a ‘renaissance man’

I know I’m just a lowly part-time entertainment writer, but I would be beyond delighted to be friends with the Queer Eye guys. The stars of the hit Netflix series, currently working on a third season, recently dished about their celebrity pals, and teased that one of them may be sharing the screen with them on a future episode.

At a screening of their show on Sunday night in Los Angeles, the Fab Five, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Tan France and my beloved Jonathan Van Nes.s shared that Reese Witherspoon, Gigi Hadid and Florence Welch (not sure about the Machine) were among their famous pals. They also sounded thrilled about having Justin Theroux’s number on speed dial.

Jonathan, who has dealt with some follicular failures on Queer Eye, had nothing but praise for Justin’s hair. He gushed, “Me and Justin talk a lot about product, but he’s actually, like, really smart and well educated when it comes to, like, everything.” He went on to add that the actor, currently starring in the comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, is “really a renaissance man. [He] really doesn’t need so much advice, he’s actually very smart.”

At the premiere of Spy, Justin shared the love, telling Entertainment Tonight that this mutual admiration society was formed “when I saw the show and I fell in love with them.” He confessed to Jimmy Kimmel that he loved the show so much that he sent an Instagram DM to Jonathan when he was in New York around Easter and they hit it off. Since then, he revealed to Jimmy that, “They’ve sort of included me in their little wolf pack.” Justin has met Antoni, who gave him “very good advice on hot sauce” and Tan. He is looking forward to meeting Karamo and Bobby.

Despite their friendship, don’t expect Justin to be getting the full Queer Eye treatment anytime soon. As he told Jimmy, “That was kind of the hope that I’d get these great tips and I’d have a makeover of my house, but actually it’s the opposite. I’m usually the one doing the shopping, like, ‘Oh my god, the guys are coming over!’” He did get Antoni to make him nachos one time, as he’s a wiz with an avocado, so that’s no surprise.

I love living in a world where Justin, who will always be the cowboy from Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion to me, is pals with the Queer Eye guys. It just makes me love him even more.

As for that special guest on Queer Eye season three, the cast is not spilling any secrets, but Jonathan did tease that “The biggest of the big of the big of the big, of the most major earth shattering, earth moving, earth shattering cameos could maybe happen.” I can’t imagine who it could be, although I do wish it was me.

I’ve been tracking Justin for YEARS…and I’ve always found him to be bright…and inquisitive…and a damn good actor…and a DAMN good writer…and I always liked the career he carved out for himself…so this doesn’t surprise me!

I’ve been seeing him shit all over women for years…and I’ve always found him to be sleazy…and thirsty…and a total social climber…and I always marvelled at the emotional carnage he carved out behind him…so I’m not surprised he is sucking up to and using men as well as women!

    #teamcorey for a cameo!!!

Justin is a contemporary a man, despite being a bit of a poseur, which makes him hot hot hot.

Justin rubs me the wrong way. Probably started with the way he treated Heidi Bivens. Once a guy does something so smarmy, for me there’s no getting past that.

    • Leigh-Klein says:

This, and his aftermath with Anniston, behaving like the world had never seen “edgy” before, all with a safety pin earring.

You perfectly summed up my current feelings about Justin. Like Lala, I was a big fan of Justin. I loved him since Mulholland Drive and Six Feet Under, and then he was excellent in The Leftovers. But hearing about his treatment of Heidi, and then his sleezy behavior in his split with Aniston, really turned me off. But the icing on the cake was his insistence on how “edgy” & “arty” & “non-LA” he is (ha!), and the laughable safety-pin earring just took things to the pinnacle of douchey pretentiousness!

I love the Queer Eye guys. I swear I cry during every episode it seems. My favorite thing to do is watch it with friends or be on the phone and watch it with someone. Antoni the chef is one of my favorites. I love them all but he just reminds me so much of someone close to me I have a soft spot.
When they went to a small town in GA and made over the very Christian mother of a gay man and she told the story about how she learned to accept her son with unconditional love I couldn’t stop the tears. That show is uplifting, especially in these times.

Justin isn’t my bag. So whatever on that part.

I know magnoliarose, I can’t get through one episode without spilling lots of tears! In fact I have to pace watching this show or I’ll be a blobbering mess all week!

Hmmmm thinking about the cameos again… Except for Corey here (go Corey!) I would not like this to become a star-infused show. There was a cameo by a comedian in Season 2 but it was a-propos. What is important about the show is how subdued and it is, non-judgemental and centered around the person. If it becomes a celeb show, They loose a fan. Seriously. You made me accept a reality tv show in my life, Fab 5, don’t make make me regret it!

  6. Esmom says:

I love the QE guys but I have to confess, I didn’t love the one episode of the show I watched. It felt contrived to me. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance.

Anyway, I get where Justin’s coming from because I’d love to be friends with them, too, lol.

  7. Stephie says:

Sorry, not a Justin fan. He’s a career climber/user. I also don’t like the skinny jeans, chain wallet thing that he lives for. Yuck all the way around.

  8. Faithmobile says:

I didn’t like Justin before Jonathan. But I trust JVN he doesn’t suffer fools or as*holes. And seriously who wouldn’t want to be Jonathan’s friend?
