Idris Elba knows Prince Harry ‘from round the way’: ‘He’s a neighborhood lad’

UK Premiere of' Yardie'

Here are some photos of Idris Elba at the London premiere of his directorial-debut film, Yardie. He brought his fiancee Sabrina Dhowre as his date and he kept his sunglasses on for almost all of the photos. I mean… I still have all the feelings for him, but I wish he would have taken off the sunglasses and worn an “I Heart Kaiser” t-shirt. WHY DIDN’T HE? While he was on the carpet, he did speak one word about the revival of the James Bond rumors and whether he’ll be slipping into a Saville Row suit and an Omega watch any time soon.

After months of endless speculation, Idris Elba squashed all rumors he’ll play James Bond with a firm “no” on Wednesday. Elba was asked if he’ll be the next actor to take on the iconic spy role.

“No,” he told Good Morning Britain’s reporter, bluntly. And when further pressed if he prefers a martini shaken or stirred — a reference to the Bond films — the 45-year-old joked, “Stir fried, actually.”

Which is sort of what I already said: the sourcing on the latest round of rumors was some low-budget British tabloid, and Idris has already made it very clear for YEARS that he doesn’t want to do Bond at this point. Meanwhile, Idris did have some cute things to say about Prince Harry recently:

To many, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s royal wedding was a fairy tale come true watched by millions around the world. For Idris Elba, he was just supporting an old pal on his big day. The 45-year-old actor told The Observer that he scored an invite from the groom. “Harry’s a friend of mine,” he said, jokingly adding that he knows him “just from round the way, haha! He’s a neighborhood lad!”

While the Golden Globe winner — attended the royal wedding with his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre and got behind the DJ booth at the evening reception to show off his spinning skills for the crowd gathered at Frogmore House — wasn’t spilling any secrets of the big day, he shared that it was a special experience.

“I try not to talk too much about it, because it was a private day, but it remains one of the highlights of my life, for sure,” he explained. He added, “It was a beautiful experience, like all weddings are.”

I really enjoy the fact that Idris doesn’t trade on his royal connections and friendships whatsoever. He received a grant from the Prince’s Trust and he’s worked as an ambassador for Prince Charles’ foundation for years now. Idris is tight with Charles too, but he barely talks about that either. And Idris and Tom Hardy both seem to know Harry from military and veterans-issues charity work. Harry IS sort of like a “neighborhood lad.”

Love me some Big Dris and while he would be a fab Bond I can’t see him taking on a role that he would be tied to for a long time.

I think they should go for someone a bit younger for the next Bond, maybe John Boyega or Henry Golding for sure. Pity John David Washington isn’t British – saw him being interviewed on morning TV here in the UK this morning and *sigh* he is too perfect. He sounds just like has father but for me I melted when he was asked about his mother and how she helped him with his acting, his whole face lit up and he seemed really happy to talk about her – he’s a momma’s boy for sure.

It’s not a requirement that Bond be portrayed by a British actor. George Lazenby and Pierce Brosnan portrayed Bond and they’re Australian and Irish respectively.

I always enjoy an Idris post

There. He said no. Can we leave him alone about it now?

I forgot about the fiancé. I wonder how long she’ll last? 😁 Sorry, he’s a handsome man…but not so much a “long term” man!

    He’s so hot

Yeah, I love Idris Elba as much as the next person, but it’s good to draw a line under this. With Danny Boyle pulling out of the latest film, the Bond franchise is in a world of hurt anyway.

They make a gorgeous couple. He looks older than his age imo. My husband will be 42 in a month and looks way younger than Idris.
