Lady Gaga called out by Ellen for ignoring texts, ‘Bradley got right back to me’

Lady Gaga, who has probably spent hours rehearsing her acceptance speeches in the mirror, is still on the promotional trail for A Star is Born (which finally opens on Friday). Today, the singer/actress appears on Ellen. In a teaser clip released prior to the interview (which was supposed to air on September 27, but was preempted by the Kavanaugh hearings), Ellen jokes that Gaga may have ghosted her.

Ellen recalled, “We saw each other at Jimmy’s wedding. I texted you after Jimmy’s wedding. Remember we said we’re gonna get together and I never heard from you?” I’m not the world’s best internet sleuth, but I think the wedding she’s referring to is that of music executive Jimmy Iovine, who married Liberty Ross back in 2016. Gaga hasn’t been on Ellen since November of 2013, so there’s that too.

Ellen continued, ”I saw the movie the other night. I texted Bradley. Bradley got right back to me. Got back to me immediately. Texted you — nothing. You never text me back.” Gaga looked embarrassed and responded, “I either don’t know what number it is, or I’ve blocked you by accident,” adding, “I’m so sorry.”

Ellen, not ready to let it go, went on, telling Gaga she prefaced her texts with “It’s Ellen” and said, “I thought maybe I had the wrong number…because why would you not respond to me?” To Gaga’s credit, she took it in stride. Soak in the awkwardness.

Ellen also shared her take on the Star is Born trailer, recasting herself in Gaga’s role. It’s…umm…cute?

My favorite Gaga interview around Star was her appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Graham Norton is the best. Who else could get Gaga to play theremin with Doctor Who’s Jodie Whitaker?

The multiple premieres of the movie have given Gaga ample opportunities to show off her enormous ring, which is rumored to be her engagement ring from finance Christian Carino. Page Six spoke with a jewelry expert who estimated that the ring, featuring a pink center stone surrounded by smaller colorless diamonds, could have a hefty price tag. According to Kathryn Money of jeweler Brilliant Earth, “A natural pink diamond of this saturation and size would be very rare, easily costing over $1 million.” She went on to add that, “If made with a premium-quality pink sapphire, this ring would cost upwards of $100,000, depending on the characteristics of the specific gemstone.”

That’s a whole lot of ring, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Gaga. I’m not a fan of pink stones, but for whatever reason, it works on her. What kind of wedding band do you wear with a ring like that? All I know is that it will look nice on her hand while she’s clutching (at least) another Golden Globe.

    Is it out yet?

It looks sort of like a blue stoned cocktail ring I got from my grandmother. How fabulous would it be if it was worth 100K??? I really love the ring, but yes, it seems sort of much for everyday wear. She can certainly pull it off. Also, I thought she looked so cute on ellen!

Why is Ellen demanding a response from Gaga? Jeez let it go.

    • BlueSky says:

I know! Putting her on the spot like that trying to shame or embarrass her.

    • Chubcucumber says:

Maybe it’s because Ellen is a gay icon who has had a tremendous impact on representation in the media and Gaga has long positioned herself as a staunch LGBTQ ally?
Gaga ghosting Ellen is some very interesting optics when looked at through that lens. A lot of people have accused Gaga of using the gay community for credibility when it suits her and I wonder if that’s what Ellen was implying by bringing this up.

      • BlueSky says:

I’m thinking she thought she and Gaga were friends and is mad that she didn’t respond to her text. I know a lot of people who are bad about not responding to text messages.

      • Nickles says:

        Ellen was obviously teasing Gaga

  4. Winnie Cooper's Mom says:

Love Ellen.. but kind of comes across like she expects every single celeb to treat her like a best friend. Some of them might just want to keep to themselves, surely it’s not personal. Geez.

  5. Lala11_7 says:

    If I were Gaga…I woulda told Ellen…

“Chile…IF YOU DON’T GET YOU SOME BIDDNESS!!!”

Ellen with that passive/aggressive mess irks my big toe!

    • AMA1977 says:

I wish you were Gaga so you would say that because I would laugh and laugh and laugh…and make a loop of it from YouTube footage.

On second thought, could you just upload a video of yourself saying that? It would serve the same purpose of awesomeness. 😉

I’m giggling like a fiend at my desk thinking of all of the possible applications for footage of LaLa saying:
“Chile…IF YOU DON’T GET YOU SOME BIDDNESS!!!”

IMHO both of her fiance’s had horrible taste in engagement rings. Yikes.

I saw a few clips from Graham Norton and man, I can’t get past her face/ plastic surgery. I’m not trying to shame her or anything but her frozen lip area gives me uncanny valley feelings, like there is something seriously off there (Meg Ryan feels). I wish she hadn’t messed with her face! It was totally fine before!!

@bluesky, I don’t know. I am doubtful that Ellen would think Gaga is a personal friend, it seems more like a question of professional courtesy. And again, given Gaga’s positioning herself as the no 1 ally for LGBTQ people it does seem weird that she wouldn’t reply to America’s no 1 lesbian talk show host. Who has also hosted the Oscars, I think?
On a more basic level, Gaga wants to use Ellen’s platform to promote her project. I can see why Ellen would be miffed about being ignored until Gaga decides she can be useful.
I’m guessing Gaga won’t ignore her texts in future.

I used to really love Ellen, and I feel like she has become really pushy/passive aggressive in recent years. She made Saoirse Ronan choose between different men as part of a “game” and teased of her when she considered what kind of people the celebrities were rather than just choosing the hotter one. After Saoirse said she doesn’t really date. It was an awkward encounter, I thought.

  10. enike says:

Ellen was obviously just teasing Gaga to make her feel comfortable and important, in a friendly way

I do this with my long time no see friends or acquitances to break the ice (if there is any) and make them feel important 🙂

    • Bella Bella says:

That wasn’t teasing to my eye. She has a reputation for being an unpleasant person and it was leaking out of her pores in that exchange.
