Prince Harry has been made ‘personal aide-de-camp’ to Queen Elizabeth

Young Leaders Awards Ceremony

Congratulations for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been pouring in. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s office released a simple statement saying they are “delighted” for Meghan and Harry. Buckingham Palace released a similar statement, saying that the Queen and Prince Philip are equally delighted. Considering the announcement first thing on a Monday morning just as Meghan and Harry undertake this massive royal tour, I have to think that everything has been very coordinated through royal communications offices, and that Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace had all of the senior royals’ statements ready to drop within the hour of the pregnancy confirmation. It’s also telling that the palace didn’t even bother to get a statement from Thomas Markle, that rotten, toxic bastard. Do you think Meghan even told her dad beforehand? I doubt it.

Meanwhile, this happened soon after the Queen learned about Royal Polo Baby Sussex:

The Duke of Sussex has been made a personal aide-de-camp to The Queen. Prince Harry’s new role is an honorary one and carries few duties. However, the news is significant because it shows the increasing role that the 34-year-old has within The Royal Family.

Monday’s Court Circular states: “The Queen has been pleased to appoint The Duke of Sussex as a Personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty with effect from 13th October, 2018.”

Queen Victoria was the first monarch to appoint aides-de-camp. The role is given to a senior military officer who is appointed to act as the honorary military attendant to the monarch. Prince Harry is just one of nine royals to hold the position. The other aides-de-camp are the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, the Prince of Wales, Captain Mark Phillips, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex, Sir Tim Laurence and the Duke of Cambridge.

Interesting timing, isn’t it? It’s just a reminder, to me, that Meghan and Harry have been fast-tracked into full-time royal life. It says to me that the Queen is particularly proud of Harry’s maturity, and she wanted to reward him with this important, ceremonial position right at this very moment.

Seems like a standard appointment of Prince in the family when he is an adult.

    • Prairiegirl says:

I thought this as well…even the Earl of Wessex was appointed, and he famously dropped out of his military training (to great controversy) back in the late 1980s / early 1990s.

      • Noodles says:

Yes and Captain Mark Philips, who then went and cheated on his second wife and moved to LA with a woman half his age if I remember rightly. So… I don’t think this new role really means anything.

That top picture of H/M/Q…made my eyes misty…

#1, because I’m currently listening to Julia Fordham’s “Happily Ever After”…

#2, because I was watching as a little girl when his Mama married Charles…and I ALWAYS had an affinity for Harry…cause he’s the youngest…so he spent the least amount of time with his Mama…

#3, for such a LONG time…I thought that Harry was gonna give Andrew a SERIOUS run for the money for being a douchebag, entitled, run-of-the-mill horrible, rich man…and LOOK AT HIM NOW

#4, He looks like he’s happier than me at a Bloomingdale’s trunk sale in that photo…AND I WANT THAT FOR EVERYBODY WHO DESERVES IT!!!!!

The stories are coming so thick and fast that I just cannot keep up. lol! Congrats Harry.

Interesting to see Captain Mark Phillips there. Isn’t that Princess Anne’s ex-husband? is he still an aide-de-camp even after their divorce? Also, Anne’s current husband Tim Lawerence is listed as an aide-de-camp as well. I guess theirs was a friendlier divorce than Diana’s and Sarah’s.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I was surprised to see that about Captain Mark Phillips too, and wonder if he still is. It was nice at the time though, considering he wasn’t given a Dukedom etc.

Just when you think the constant BORING stories about these boring (who cares) royals will stop clogging up the media, another one gets married or has another kid. Yuk! we’ll never hear the end of it now with ANOTHER kid and another couple getting ready to have ANOTHER kid. Go away!

Harry and his grandmother seem to have such an amazing relationship. In so many ways, she became a mother to him after Diana died. She’s always shared what seems to be a close relationship with the boys, but there’s something especially fun about watching her interact with Harry. Maybe it’s his work ethic and his obvious love for public life, when it seems as if his brother wants to do as little as possible. Harry inherited that sense of duty from the Queen, and I think it pleases her greatly. Look at this big Commonwealth tour that he and Meghan have so eagerly embarked on. They’re really taking on the role that the Cambridges should have, IMHO. I’d rather see the Sussexes out there, to be honest. I find William and Catherine quite dull and their lack of enthusiasm to be a total turn-off.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I see the glint in the Queen’s eye when she is with Harry too! It is so adorable.

    • Lexa says:

People have created this narrative that Harry works significantly more than William, likely because of the very wonderful Invictus, but that’s actually not the case for the most part. Harry moved to a busier “full time” work schedule at the same time William did. They’ll end up pretty close in numbers after this busy tour, but right now Harry is like 60+ engagements behind his brother for the year.

I think Harry and Meghan will be great ambassadors to the world and it was a smart way to carve out a distinct purpose/role for them.

      • BrutalEthyl says:

But I think if you look at the effectiveness of each couple/prince promoting the crown, Harry far outshines William. When the DoLittles appear in public, it’s like a huge yawn for everybody. They’re boring and don’t even seem to pretend to want to be anywhere except back at the castle or, in Will’s case, Africa. When Harry and Meghan go out, people are excited. They impress the public, they’re interested in where they are and why they were invited to that place.

IMO there’s no comparison between the couples. The Queen is getting a lot more bang out of her buck with Harry.

      • Danielle says:

“It’s like a huge yawn for everybody”? Prince Harry and The Queen are the most popular/ highest favoribility among the family, but Duchess Kate and Prince William are right behind them and have been for years.

Princh Harry and Duchess Megahan are so lovely and both quite gregarious and we hear that from people actually attending their events. Likewise, people who interact with Prince William and Duchess Kate have said lovely things about them and their interest and warmth, just last week even.

Why does their have to be one couple that is everything right/good and one that is everything wrong? I like them both, although my introvert heart would prefer to hang with the Cambridges! (My extrovert husband would rather party with the Sussexes 😆)

  7. FC says:

It also sounds like a precursor to her decision to make Baby Sussex a Prince/Princess.

  8. Yes Doubtful says:

I really wish he would be the king. He’s had some big mishaps along the way, but he seems to embody more of his mother’s spirit than William.

    • guest says:

He doesn’t want to be King and wanted to walk away….. He said it himself last year in that big interview. Will and Harry are the same when it comes down to the job: they don’t really want to be out there living this type of public life but they respect their grandmother and her sense of duty so they continue.
