Jennifer Lopez shows off her abs: ‘We never quit, we never rest on the floor’

Since I’m in the throes of “the change,” as I’m a woman of a certain age, it’s getting harder and harder to maintain a fit physique. Please tell me I’m not alone in this Sisyphean task. One person who is making the rest of us middle-aged ladies look bad is Jennifer Lopez, who happens to be 49, just like me.

The stunning actress, who is definitely no stranger to the gym, took to Instagram on Monday to make me jealous… I mean show off her new workout gear (and her sickening abs). In the selfie, she strikes a pose that gives us a good look at her leggings, which feature pictures of Jen and lyrics from her song “On the Floor.” In the caption, she asserts that “My life and career are centered around my passions and doing things that make me happy.” She also quotes the songs lyrics, almost inspiring me to go work out, saying, “We never quit, we never rest on the floor.” I think if I attempted one of Jennifer’s workouts, I would end up on the floor and I would definitely be doing something that looked very similar to resting.

Jennifer also promoted the new gear on her Instagram Stories, because she must be a firm believer in the old adage, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.”

And, as they say, the couple that works out together, stays together, so Jennifer and her beau Alex Rodriguez make sure that fitness is a priority. The former baseball star posted a video montage of doing upper body exercises with Jennifer last week. He added the caption, “Crazy schedules means crazy hours, but we never miss a workout. (It’s the best way to de-stress.)”

Wow. I’m pooped just watching that, but I mean, seriously. Look at Jennifer’s body. She definitely busts her butt to look as good as she does, and the hard work has definitely paid off. I’m inspired, but first, I need a nap. On the floor.

She looks amazing and not in a for her age way.

The thing is, she works out 3 hours a day. More power to her but I could never do that, and I mean in a completely practical way. My life won’t allow it. I’m 49 too and trying to gain muscle mass. It’s not easy. My aches and pains are more problematic than they were in the past and I find it limits what I can physically do. But my goal is to gain muscle mass and hopefully eliminate at least some of those aches in the process.

There is NOTHING about that video that makes me want to work out for three hours a day, every single day! Not even her beautiful body.
      I’m 48, but I wouldn’t have wanted to do that at 28!
This kind of vanity just smacks of exhaustive effort, and lack of more important things to do. But that’s just me.

She makes me not afraid of getting older! She inspired me to quit drinking coffee since April, I thought it would have been impossible but it wasn’t actually once I did it. Alcohol, that’s another story.

Clearly she does not rest, it takes a lot of working out, and consistently, to look that good. At any age!

I started working out harder than ever when I was 49, I knew I need to do more than just run and cycle. So I started lifting weights and doing HIIT in a group training format and it is HARD. But fun. And I’ve never felt fitter but now at 51, things are starting to go south MUCH more quickly. Mostly with my skin sagging. It’s so dismaying.

I know I need to just embrace it but it’s not easy seeing such visible evidence of aging. Especially because I don’t feel like an old lady. And as someone mentioned above, aches and pains are a little harder to manage. I’ve taken more ibuprofen this year than in the last decade. Probably not healthy, but it works!

    She looks incredible!

She clearly really works at it… I need her motivation.

    Sigh.

It’s not mitivation, motivation is a scam. It’s all discipline, the power of habit. There are some awesome books on habits and discipline out there. Like The 5 second rule by Mel Robbins. You can check out her TED talk as well, it’s called “How to stop screwing yourself over”.

She literally lives her best life. She works hard, she plays hard & I’m sure that wasn’t/isn’t easy. Her diet (lifestyle) is meticulous…everything she eats/drinks is calculated, she’s cut so much & works out endlessly and this is her reward. She’s active & aware of what she puts into her body, I WISH I had her dedication & self control. But I wouldn’t buy leggings w her FACE on them, that’ll just make me feel bad all over again😭

  7. Cee says:

I’ve been muscle lifting/training for 6 months and it is HARD but so rewarding. It’s one hour a day I can focus on my body and I can appreciate how strong I am.
JLo has killer abs! As a woman with a big booty (and a REAL one) she’s always been my inspiration – she embraces her ass instead of covering it up, like I’m always wanting to do. Muscle training has definitely made me appreciate my ass LOL

Her body is bangin’ but her face looks rough. Never understood her obsession with the blue steel look.

Who works out wearing hoops earrings, seriously?
