Ariana Grande, who has 131m followers, is taking a break following her split

Ariana Grande is known for interacting with her fans on social media. She’s thoughtful and vulnerable in her posts and she hasn’t made a big faux pas or written anything regrettable that’s received press. So it’s not surprising to hear that she reads comments, that they affect her, and that she needs to take breaks occasionally. We just heard that Ariana and Pete Davidson have broken up after less than six months together. Ariana was dealing with the sudden death of her ex boyfriend, Mac Miller, and that reportedly affected her relationship with Pete, which was going way too fast anyway. She just posted that she needs to take a break. I’m relying on People’s reporting on this because the post about her taking a break was in an Instagram story, which she since deleted. The other content, about performing during the final taping for NBC’s 15th anniversary of Wicked, is still available. (She did not wear her engagement ring for that as she’s already returned it to Pete.) Does that mean she really isn’t quitting? I don’t know.

[Ariana] Grande announced an internet hiatus.

“Ok today was v special and i’m so grateful i was able to be there,” Grande said in a post on her Instagram Stories, which has since been deleted in reference to Tuesday’s taping of NBC’s A Very Wicked Halloween.

“Time to say bye bye again to the internet for just a lil bit,” Grande continued. “It’s hard not to bump news n stuff that I’m not trying to see rn. It’s very sad and we’re all tryin very hard to keep going. love u. and thank u for bein here always,” Grande added.

The announcement comes just a few hours after Grande spoke candidly about her “anxiety” in a different Instagram Stories post.

“Can’t believe I almost let my anxiety ruin this for me today!” the singer captioned a photo of herself, which showed off her makeup, specifically her green lip shade.

“Not today Satan! Not tomorrow or the next day either not no more u can suck my big green d— finna sing my heart out and be a big walking vessel of love bye,” Grande added.

Wicked’s 15th-anniversary special will air on NBC later this month.

[From People]

Maybe she just means she’s stepping away for a day or two. I’m guilty of that. I’ll be like “I’m leaving Twitter for a few days I can’t take it” and then I’ll be back within 24 hours. Social media is addictive and although I’ve successfully deleted my personal Facebook (I still have a business account) I’m active on Twitter and am getting sucked in to Instagram. There’s an excellent community on Twitter especially, it just can be see all the news. It must be worse when the press reports on everything you say and you just broke up with your boyfriend. I like watching Ariana online. She’s trying to be genuine and that’s got to be painful at times too.

In related news, Pete backed out of a scheduled comedy performance for today in Philadelphia. People also reports that they’ve “broken up before and got back together.” Remember when Pete deleted all his Instagram posts and Ariana took a break? I bet that was one of the times they broke up.

Good for her. Social media is optional! We don’t have to subject ourselves to the shitty opinions of millions of people every day. More people should unplug regularly for mental health.

I deleted my FB once, so all my far flung connections from when I could afford to travel are gone. I was off for almost 4 years. But then I and a lot of my friends decided to leave NYC. Everyone over 35 who could get out, basically, did. So now I’m broke & isolated & I love the FB again, but I’m not all there all day, shooting the shit, waiting for entertainment or validation. I’ve got a small friend list of people who really ARE my friends. S’ok now.

Leaving FB back in May was the BEST thing I’ve ever done for my depression. I was sick of seeing how “perfect” people’s lives were, and feeling like I was a failure compared to everyone else. But then, you realize, the people who look happiest on social media are the most miserable IRL.

The value of taking time away for oneself can not be measured in dollars – so glad that she has the support around her to encourage her to do that (you know as well as I do, her management/team could very well encourage her to do the opposite so long as the $$ kept rolling in).

Her and Pete both just seem so…fragile. Hope they stay friends and can continue to support one another in whatever capacity.

I’m sick of the whole “followers”-thing.
Anyway, I like her, wish her the best.

She’s always been a super talented, skilled singer but I wasn’t a fan of hers until I saw how she conducted herself after the Manchester Arena bombing. I mean, she kept touring. She can date whoever she wants, take breaks from social media or whatever. This girl is brave.

I have tremendous respect for her as well. She’s also been a feminist long before it was a talking point for celebrities.

I would love to get rid of my insta but I’m so addicted. Successfully deleted my Facebook about 8 years ago and never went back.

Just deactivated my Facebook a few months back. I miss a few of my friends that I don’t get to see as much anymore, but I don’t miss the drama. Such a time suck. If I restore it, I’m probably only going to use it as a chat reference.

I only know these two from here, but this feels really sad. She really had a lot to deal with and I hope she is emotionally as healthy as she seems to be and takes care of herself.
I love instagram a lot, but I just use it for one of my hobbies and only follow people involved in the same community as I am.

  7. Veronica S. says:

Honestly, if you think about her reputation two years back, it’s really impressive how much she’s grown in the last year or so. I wouldn’t wish how it happened on anybody, but she took it in positive stride. I hope for both of them that they get the help and space that they need to sort out their problems, even if they don’t wind up getting back together.

  8. CairinaCat says:

There are some rumors out there that Pete sent pics of him and Ari being intimate to Mac Miller without Ari knowing, she just found out from his parents.
I’m thinking if true, that’s why she broke up with him.
The implications are horrible, what if that’s why Mac od’d
And how insecure and controlling Pete was to send pics like that to a ex she was still friends with

    • Xi Tang says:

Wow this is awful. I hope it’s not true.

    • BB says:

Are those real rumors or like fictional blind items from CDAN or something?

ETA: I just googled it. It originated on Facebook when someone claimed TMZ had reported it. Buzzfeed debunked it. It’s not true.

      • otaku fairy... says:

Ugh. Even with it just being a rumor, that’s not the kind of thing she needs right now with what she’s publicly going through mentally/emotionally. It’s not really the kind of thing Pete Davidson needs to be wrongly accused of either, with what he already struggles with.

  9. Emily says:

I read a blind item that had to be Pete and Ariana. Apparently Pete is back on drugs and after Mac Miller’s death Ariana realized she couldn’t be in another relationship like that.

    • jwoolman says:

Isn’t Pete tested pretty regularly? I would imagine SNL would make that a serious condition.

  10. MissAmerica says:

I love you on IG. Just give in to the addiction because I don’t use Twitter often 😛
