Are you here for Alex Skarsgard playing a sexy WWII-era German in ‘The Aftermath’?

LFF The Little Drummer Girl

Here are some photos of Alexander Skarsgard at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of The Little Drummer Girl. The AMC miniseries is based on the John le Carré book, and the reviews are basically “don’t go into this thinking that it will be like The Night Manager.” The premiere happened a few nights ago and I simply forgot to cover these photos – I like to cover new photos of Viking Thunder whenever we get them in, because sometimes there’s a thunder drought and we need all of the Feminist Viking Thunder we can get these days.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about another one of Alex’s projects besides The Little Drummer Girl. This week, the trailer for The Aftermath dropped and… you guys, they made this movie for me. All I knew, coming into it, was that it was set just after World War II. It is. Keira Knightley and Jason Clark are also in it. And you guys… this is a bodice-ripping costume drama in the vein of The English Patient, I swear to God. THEY MADE IT FOR ME.

I like the fact that Alex isn’t even really attempting a German accent. There’s been a rash of dodgy German accents in recent films, and he’s just using some vague half-British-sounding accent. It’s nice. As for the story… lord, I love a WWII tragic romance story. I need this injected into my veins. Keira does them so well too – even in the dumb WWII stories, Keira is great. I’m excited to see Alex undertake this kind of period romance-drama too. He looks amazing.

That’s actually a pretty spot on German accent for the upper crust type with a fancy house it looks like he’s playing.

And Little Drummer Girl is directed by Park Chan-Wook so no it won’t be like the Night Manager, it’ll be a lot weirder and so much better.

I found his German quite OK sounding! A bit Norse, but hey.

I cannot stand Keira’s Period Acting. I find her really ok in contemporary movies actually, because to me she looks soooo 2010, and does not have a period face at all.

Also she is not the best actor.

    • Sonia says:

Really? I find her pretty much the perfect period piece actress. I find her mesmerizing. Could be her voice.

      • Sara says:

I’m glad you enjoy her! I just wish she wasn’t in EVERY period movie regardless of period or of movie, from Pride and Prej to Anna Karenina to all the others.

      • Sonia says:

lol well that’s a different thing. Though she’s said before she does so many period movies because the roles for women are a lot better in them.

@sara in your 2 specific examples (P&P & AK) they were the same director (Joe Wright – also Atonement) who loves her

I’m pretty much here for anything this man does. This many years after changing my mind about blond men forever (and making me realize that I have a thing for very tall men) due to True Blood (Team Eric FOR EVAH), I still would climb him like a tree.

Plus, he still seems like a sweet, down to earth person. Praying to the old gods and the new that there isn’t some horribly problematic thing he’s said or done that I don’t know about, because if 2018 takes another nice thing from me, I don’t know what I’ll do.

I’ll take Alex anyway I can get him. He’s crazy talented and funny as hell. Good enough for me. Eric Northman Forever!

  5. Minx says:

Cannot wait for this! I am so here for some Viking goodness, and he’s more than delivering lately. Between Hold the Dark, The Hummingbird Project, and now The Little Drummer Girl and this, I am all smiles. Alex is my happy place with everything else going on in the world!

  6. minx says:

    Whatever he does, I’m there.

  7. lucy2 says:

I’m here for him in anything. He just had a Netflix movie come out too that I haven’t gotten to yet. I need a free weekend to catch up on my Skarsgard projects!

  8. Lightpurple says:

    I’ll be there!

  9. Chaine says:

He is a talented actor, and I enjoy his work, but I do not find him at all sexy.

  10. Aerohead21 says:

His attractiveness comes out in ways other than his physical appearance. If you looked at him in a still photo, you can find flaws. But then he moves or smiles and does something goofy and it’s like, there you are!

  11. Jana says:

    Kaiser, everything you said +1000.

  12. Blackbetty says:

    Jason Clarke is underrated.

  13. CairinaCat says:

I love this Viking God 😀
My husband is a Dane so I’m probably biased towards Vikings lol
