John Krasinski had an uncredited role as one of the monsters in ‘A Quiet Place’

58th Monte Carlo TV Festival - ‘Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan’ - Photocall

John Krasinski was guest on Tuesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he talked about his incredibly popular and critically-acclaimed horror film A Quiet Place. Not only did his first feature film as a director make the list of the Top 10 movies of 2018 (so far), it earned a sequel order, which is currently slated for release in May of 2020. John said that although it may seem “psychotic,” the movie was made as “a love letter to my kids.” That’s quite an intense love letter, if you ask me.

The 38-year-old actor/director was outed by Jimmy for an uncredited role in his hit film. Yes, not only did he co-write the screenplay, direct the film and star, he also played one of the movie’s scary, noise-attracted creatures. When Jimmy brought up this trivial tidbit, asking if anyone knew about John’s dual role, the actor replied, “Nobody knows it because I’ve kept it quiet.” Jimmy, who loves to good-naturedly take a jab at his longtime friend and former neighbor (more on that in a bit) was more than happy to show a photo of John in a motion capture suit, in the middle of a skyward scream. John said “that’s embarrassing” and explained that the “amazing” technicians at Industrial Light and Magic asked him how he thought the creature should move. John recalled, “I said, ‘Well, this is how I think he’s gonna crawl,’ ”And they said, ‘Well, why don’t you throw on the suit?’ And I was like, ‘Totally!’” Of Jimmy’s “embarrassing” photo, John joked that, “I thought I was auditioning for Lion King.”

John went on to (once again) compliment his wife and Quiet Place co-star, Emily Blunt, telling Jimmy that “I’ve been next to her when she’s made all these amazing decisions and she’s without a doubt the classiest, smartest, most dedicated actress I’ve ever known.” Aww.

Although the Quiet Place chat was great, the best part of the Kimmel interview was when the two former neighbors relived their ongoing prank war. John started the war with a soft volley, sneaking into Jimmy’s home to place two inflatable Christmas decorations and things escalated quickly from there. Entire homes – and Jimmy’s office – were converted into holiday wonderlands, cars were wrapped, stuffed with ornaments and even crashed and reindeers (and reindeer poop) even came into play. John getting “Nogg’d” on the show in 2015 seems to be where things left off…until now.

Since Jimmy is taping his show in Brooklyn this week, he rented an Airbnb. John pointed out that the two were once again neighbors, if only temporarily, and asked Jimmy where he was staying, and, before Jimmy could answer, John said, “Doesn’t matter, I already know.” Then we see Jimmy’s rental with a lighted sign outside of it saying, “Come in and say Hi” as well as a sign spinner, a choir and a banner that unfurled to say “Welcome Jimmy Kimmel Who Is Renting This House.” Wow. Jim Halpert would be quite impressed.

John added, “What you can’t see, there are 150 people lined up to take this tour of his house. As soon as the choir’s done, they’re all gonna go in. So I would just say, guys, if you’re in Brooklyn, which you already are, get your kids to trick-or-treat early. It’s Park Slope, Brooklyn. You’ll see it. You’ll know it.” Jimmy, unfortunately, doesn’t have any sort of immediate retaliation planned, stating that, “I wish I was more prepared. I do know where you live, but I didn’t do anything to it. It’s not even Christmas time!” I can’t wait to see what happens at the Krasinski home this holiday season. Jimmy has months to prepare.

I hope A Quiet Place get some award attention. It was fantastic.

That’s good to hear. I’m trying to get my son, who’s a big Office fan and a horror fan, to watch it with me.

I love John and Jimmy’s prank war. Very cute.

I usually never watched horror films, but I did and I LOVED it!! I was surprised by the commenter below, because I thought the parents were really intelligent, and I like a believable movie where I DON’T say to myself, “Don’t do THAT, you stupid dummy!” but rather empathize and root for the main characters, which I did.

    • Agirlandherdog says:

Neither my husband, nor I, cared for it. From the very beginning we felt the parents made really bad choices, and it just went downhill from there.

He directed a movie before. It didn’t get that great reviews. This is his second feature. Haven’t seen it but heard good things. I’m not sure I love Jim from the office but sometimes I get a douche vibe from him. That whole thing about him getting annoyed at Jenna Fischer for saying she really loved John was weird.

    • Melody calder says:

Yes weird that she said it- even if true its disrespectful to who ever they were with to insinuate the relationship was more than professional

    • Pansy says:

Can you tell me more about what she said? Did she mean it platonically or was she really in love with him?

      • Caitlin Bruce says:

She said to Andy Cohen, “There’s like a real part of me that is Pam, and there’s a real part of him that’s Jim, and those parts of us were genuinely in love with one another.” He said she must have been taken out of context and he feels bad for her. It was just weird. I don’t think what she said was disrespectful to either ones respective relationships

      • xdanix says:

I don’t think she meant she was really in love with him- she’s answered a million questions over the years about their relationship and always stressed that her “Jim” is her husband. The problem is, they took her words- which I think were just meant to be a sweet tribute to their screen partnership and the work they did together over the years- and twisted them. Next thing you know, there were a million headlines declaring that they had been “really” in love while filming the show.

    • xdanix says:

I don’t think he handled it in a douchey way, really- I mean, I loved The Office too and I’ve seen a million interviews with them over the years and literally never have read or seen him saying a bad word about Jenna, he’s always had lovely things to say about her and working together. That said- I don’t blame him for trying to shut down the headlines. There were a million of them declaring that they had been genuinely in love while filming the show. Of course that’s not what Jenna said, but there was still tons of stories generated from it. There’s STILL tons of them online if you google it. Probably not the nicest thing to have out there for him or his wife, who he was in a relationship with for many of those years he was filming the show- and I can’t imagine it was thrilling for Jenna’s husband either.

I didnt even know I needed this. John is just a great guy.

  4. Svea says:

The premise/story and the writing are what should really get kudos. That is brilliant.

  5. Jayna says:

I guess there was do much hype about the movie that I expected too much. It was good, not great. My friend was disappointed

  6. Veronica S. says:

It is a love letter if you think about what it is at its core. The horror story is dressing for what it’s really examining – what parenthood means, what sacrifice means, and what happens when the world forces both to extremes. A movie about the willingness to die to protect the things you love is pretty intense but something they’ll certainly appreciate when they’re older. And I really love the production team for utilizing a deaf actress and legitimately taking her input into consideration with the scripting.

Haven’t seen the movie in full yet, but I picked it up for Halloween. I’m making my friends watch it with me as part of a horror movie marathon.

  7. Nikki says:

I really adore John K. AND Emily Blunt. They seem like very decent people, and fun. I very much liked his Jack Ryan mini series on Amazon; I thought it was extremely well done.

  8. Gravyandbiscuits says:

Not into worshipping HW couples but they’re my favourite HW couple because they seem to just be in it for the work and not fake or whatever. Agree with all the positive comments about AQP. Drama, SF, horror, etc all rolled into one with heart, and a screenplay that doesn’t play cheap tricks while creating great tension and one that ties up everything. The kids were real characters, not just “the kids.” Also the Mary Poppins film actually looks decent in the newer trailers released.
