Keira Knightley forgot which guy her ‘Love Actually’ character ended up with

Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards

Here are some photos of Keira Knightley at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in London this week. It was a somewhat low-key event, and Keira was really the only one I wanted to discuss, so that’s why I didn’t cover the photos in a timely fashion! Keira wore this Easter-egg looking Givenchy dress to the event. I hate this!! The color is meh on her, but the design is just awful. There’s, like, a stiff taffeta “fan” attached to the bodice, the sleeves are a wreck, and I don’t understand the faux-mullet skirt. Just terrible.

Meanwhile, Keira has been doing some promotion for Disney’s The Nutcracker. She sat down with her little costar Mackenzie Foy to do a Wired video. Keira revealed that she couldn’t even remember who her Love Actually character ended up with by the end of the movie:

Yes, Keira, YOU END UP WITH CHIWETEL EJIOFOR. She revealed months ago that she had only seen Love Actually once in her life, so I guess it’s not really that surprising that she can’t remember who she ended up with. Back when I first saw the film, I wanted her to dump her husband and run off with the guy who was clearly stalking her. Nowadays, I’m so glad that her character stayed with Chiwetel Ejiofor. It’s the better choice.

That dress is …. not greats
The interview is charming, however, those two are a cute older-younger sister double act.

    I like the dress.

I like the color of Keira’s dress but the style of it is unappealing.

Wow, it’s hard to understate how bad the dress is. It reminds me of nothing so much as my granny’s winter nightgown in the 1970’s. She is only lacking the house slippers.

Pretty color but the dress could use some editing.

She had only about 3 short scenes with Chiwetel in which they barely had any dialog: the wedding when they’re reacting to the band; Christmas Eve when the doorbell rings; and the airport to greet Colin Firth. Andrew Lincoln was in everyone of her scenes. It’s understandable she would forget if she hadn’t seen it since.

      True,
Its funny when you watch it now and you think, actually Lincoln’s character was such an ahole. She was married to his best mate and yes he couldn’t help his feelings, and distanced himself as “self preservation” but she gave him no indication she was interested yet he felt the need to turn up at their door on Christmas Eve and further unburden himself while his best mate was obliviously sitting upstairs. Its comical really.

That interview is super cute. Keira seems like she’d be a great, cool mentor for young actors.

Yes, really it’s one of the signs of how far we’ve come as a culture that even movie storytelling tricks can’t make that behaviour seem romantic anymore. It’s amazing that it once seemed romantic… a lot of internalized view of women as objects to be won.

Let’s review: this less-handsome-than-her-husband creep has been cold and distant since she has known him (probably making her worry that he would undermine her relationship with her then-boyfriend/fiancé), then this guy ruins her wedding video and reveals himself to be stalker-like in his view of her, then he shows up at her door and puts her in an awkward situation to impose his presentation of his irrelevant feelings to her. Argh!

Coincidentally, I was rereading Lindy West’s review of Love Actually last night; it’s pretty hilarious:

Dude, I knew the Andrew Lincoln character was a total lame stalker THE FIRST TIME I saw this film. I also picked on other lovely tropes: when your wife is a “cheating ho,” find a woman with whom you can’t communicate because foreign women are “pure and subservient & don’t need to express themselves”; American women are rapacious sex kittens as long as you have a British accent; again, men (even prime ministers) *love* women who serve them tea & smile a lot and are bits of crumpet; stay with your cheating dick of a husband because you have nothing else except the children & Joni Mitchell, SOB. The rest of it sucks as well. It’s really a terrible movie.

I didn’t remember that the guy in Love Actually was Ejiofor and was surprised when I saw the movie recently again. I love him! Super cute, a very good actor.

The skirt part of the dress is really nice. The top half looks like the dress Mallory made on Family Ties.
