Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas have already had the puja ceremony in India

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas arrive in Jodhpur ahead of their grand royal wedding

People Magazine just made me feel like a bad Indian! I’m half-Indian (and fully American), and I’m just not steeped in Indian culture or Hindu culture, so I actually found this People Magazine article super-fascinating. People Mag obviously employs some Indian writers who know their Hindu wedding sh-t. Here’s what I do know: when my Indian cousins got married, their weddings were basically weeks-long affairs with multiple ceremonies, parties, rituals, etc. People Mag broke it down in a handy explainer, as they discussed what Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s Indian wedding could entail.

Nick and Priyanka have been in Mumbai all week, and these are some photos of them yesterday. They’ve been making preparations for the wedding which could entail about two dozen different rituals and ceremonies, as People explained. According to People, they’re going to incorporate some of Nick’s Christian/Western style too:

Priyanka Chopra has been in wedding planning mode since Nick Jonas popped the question in July. The couple arrived in Chopra’s native India last week and celebrated Thanksgiving with her family. Pre-wedding festivities continued on Wednesday when Jonas, 26, and Chopra, 36, held a puja, a traditional Hindu ceremony to ask Lord Ganesh to look over the couple and block any obstacles to happiness, at her house.

The couple intends to hold two wedding ceremonies, one honoring each of their backgrounds. “It is super important to Priyanka to have an Indian ceremony that honors her heritage and culture, just as it’s important to also have a Western ceremony that honors Nick’s Christian upbringing,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They are doing both.”

[From People]

I’ve said this before, but I remember watching that documentary series about the Jonas family, and I remember how uptight Mother Jonas seemed at the time. It felt like her dream was for her sons to all marry “nice Christian girls,” not Hindu chicks who insist on going to India for the puja. Still, I like that Hindu wedding drama is going mainstream in America – if you’re a relative of the Hindu bride or groom, you seriously need to take a month off of work just to see your relation get married and properly celebrate.

I’m so sorry but this whole thing is so weird but with that said, I do really wish them the absolute best marriage and life. Also Joe and Sophie are still engaged right?

    • Ainsley7 says:

Yeah. They were waiting until Sophie was done with game of thrones to start planning the wedding or something. I just remember that because Kit held everything up by having his in the middle of filming stuff.

    • Egla says:

It is isn’t it? I look at them and I think how? Anyway he seems to respect everything about her culture and his family is following him with no visible drama in sight. Maybe this is the real deal. I give them 10 years and two kids. (it is a looong time in their world don’t scream at me)

  2. Boodiba says:

I can’t get past the fact that he looks like a college student… like a kid. And not even an attractive one!

  3. Leslie says:

Because of the public nature of their engagement (which happened so soon after the Sussex wedding) and now wedding, I feel like Priyanka wants so badly for as many people to care about her wedding as cared about Meghan’s wedding. Like, if Priyanka could televise her wedding in different countries like the Sussex wedding, I bet she would.

  4. Sash says:

I wish them the best. They might need it lol

  5. Nikki says:

Hey Kaiser! As a fellow Indian who is American myself–I’m with you! I do find this fascinating, and I really wish them all the best….I just can’t help but feel like something’s ‘off’ with this whole thing…am I missing something? Anyone understand what i’m feeling?

    • Carey says:

Not an Indian but I do watch Bollywood films and yes, this whole thing is extremely odd. How quickly it was thrown together plus all the mess around her backing out of a Salman Khan film and then announcing she was going to be in a Chris Pratt project that immediately fell apart. It all feels disorganized and insincere. Oh yeah, and the fact her engagement party was sponsored by Tiffany and his bachelor party was sponsored by Lime scooters just makes it all seem like a terrible money grab.

Odd couple ! He looks like a teen .. my guess she’s marrying because he treats her very well and is respectable and hes marrying prob because well ..she’s just hot and said yes lol and doesn’t matter if your half Indian(which is still a lot Indian) or quarter or two thirds Least learn your culture ..

  7. Mo’ Comments Mo’ Problems says:

This is so very off and odd. I don’t trust him and his shady family. And I’m disappointed in her judgment because of time running out.

I also feel like after Deepika Padukone who recently got married, PeeCee might wanna one up her.

  8. KatieBo says:

Just came to echo basically EVERY comment about these two- haha

There’s something so off about them. I can’t put my finger on it, but when I see them I don’t buy it. Like, their engagement party photo of him looking at her while she looked at the camera actually makes me uncomfortable.

  9. Laura says:

I just wanted to say I love her smile in these pictures. The way I’m reading it is that she’s stupidly in love and very proud to be “showing off” her man while going through this crowd.

Personally, I’ve never really paid any attention to her or to him/the Jonas Brothers, but I wish them all the best.

  10. Mia4s says:

So did Amazon sponsor the puja or did someone else get that piece? I wonder who has the rights to the wedding photos?

Well…they’re trying. The thirst is strong with these two. But I just don’t think people are going to care as much as they desperately want them to care.

  11. Pandy says:

She’s so fame hungry! I also think she’s pregnant, hence the earlier wedding date.

    • Egla says:

Yes. That would explain the rush. Or if she is not she plans to be pretty soon. I call it. She won’t give up before two kids. He looks like a kid himself

  12. Diamond Rottweiler says:

I would pay for this whole “sponsored by Nabisco” ick to be over with at this point.

  13. KK2 says:

As the white american half of an american/indian marriage, I am super excited for these wedding pictures. I think this is probably the biggest white/indian wedding ever, certainly recently. I like Priyanka Chopra a lot- she is so charming in interviews. Smart, funny, and well-spoken. I don’t know anything about Nick Jonas really. They are kind of an odd couple but who knows. Certainly she’s had many many interested eligible bachelors over the years so I trust her judgment on picking this one. And I love to see a 36 yo woman marrying a 26 yo man. With her buddy Meghan Markle also marrying a younger man, it’s been a good year for women in their mid thirties!

I was surprised there was no coverage of this on the blog today so had to search to find yesterday’s post. The wedding is getting a lot of international coverage- cnn, times of india etc. At least one of the indian papers appears to have a live blog. It’s not a royal wedding, but it’s still pretty big.
