Prince William represented the Queen at Sandhurst’s Sovereign’s Parade

The Duke of Cambridge attends the Sovereign's Parade

I’ve always wondered how military and veteran-related events are parceled out between Prince Harry and Prince William. Both princes served in military branches, and Harry did two tours of duty in Afghanistan. Both princes went to Sandhurst, and both princes are probably in-demand for all of the military events throughout the year. So how are the events divided? Does William get first pick, and Harry gets whatever William doesn’t want? Do different military branches request one brother rather than the other?

In any case, Prince William had a military engagement today. He represented the Queen as the “Reviewing Officer” at The Sovereign’s Parade at Sandhurst. The Reviewing Officer is basically tasked with walking the line of Sandhurst cadets, and perhaps talking to them and reviewing their formation. I’m totally making this up as I go along, based solely on the photos! According to Kensington Palace, William was also tasked with presenting awards to some of the Officer Cadets. He also made a speech about his time in Sandhurst.

For the past three weekends in a row, the Duchess of Sussex has been targeted and smeared pretty hard by unknown and unnamed courtiers, sources and “friends of” the Cambridges. I’m assuming this weekend will be no different, and I’m interested to see what new angle they come up with. I have a feeling that William’s fingerprints are going to be all over at least one more big story.

This is such a confusing event to me, but everyone seems happy so I guess it’s a win.

      I hope this makes sense.
The US armed forces are inspected by “open ranks.” It is an inspection of your uniform and to make sure you are within standards.
It is a standard protocol mainly used in basic training, technical school or military parades. It seems to be more of cursory inspection during an event such as this with Prince William.
*usually during high profile events the best of the best are put on display.

I remember when he use to be so hot. Shame lol

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

He’s really rather unfortunate looking. That mouth, ick.

      • Olive says:

that whole lower half of his face is charles (from the queen). william’s best feature is his eyes, which are like diana’s.

My mom (may she rest in peace) used to always say about William, “The Royal Family has all the money in the world! Why don’t they get him braces?!?” I agree that some orthodontia would’ve helped.

So I’ve been reading in many different forms and now there’s seems to be lots of praise for Will and Kate even though this is what they’re supposed to be doing. Also the great PR and good press Kate seems to be getting. Now majority are saying she is regal, classy, going to be a great future Queen ect…

  4. MrsBump says:

All negative gossip so far was about events happening in the run up to the wedding which ties in neatly with the timeline of Charles’ biography’s release.
I don’t think that w&k are the mastermind behind this, rather lainey’s theory of tidbits that couldn’t be placed in the book would appear later on in the papers makes a lot of sense.
Honestly the only personal jealousy that i believe in is that charles vs his sons especially william. Every once in a while, there is idle gossip about William ascending to the throne after the queen’s death instead of Charles. Even if that is unlikely, when you’ve been heir to the throne for longer than anyone else in British history, that’s got to hurt.

    • Leyton says:

Lainey is full of it and has no Royal credibility.

Jobson made the mistake by mentioning what Harry said and he’s been distancing himself from everything else ever since. He’s shown himself to NOT be above attacking Meghan so him distancing himself tells me it’s because he knows he unintentionally messed up and probably got some talking too by CH.

I think Charles has learned the hard way what jealousy does but I do think he and William have a strained relationship and William seems to be passive aggressive with his father at times. Harry is close to Charles and Meghan is clearly close to him as well. He also seems very excited for Baby Sussex. I don’t see him ruining that relationship with any one of them for a PR campaign that did absolutely NOTHING to benefit him.

This was lazy and amateurish- Classic Cambridge/Kensington Palace moves. The Cambridge’s benefited from the Sussex looking bad. Add on their change in behavior/attempt to be appealing and Carole’s poorly timed Interviews and you have a disaster that started with their little leaks and went completely wrong.

      • MrsBump says:

I don’t think Charles is out there to destroy Meghan in the press.
However during the course of writing the book the author talked to courtiers who had an axe to grind with Meghan.
regarding Lainey, it’s not about whether she has a source amongst the royals or nor, but rather she has given a very insightful explanation on how gossip arrives at newspapers.

      • Piper says:

        Agreed.
Lainey has her moments, and gives more of a gossip media perspective than a royal flunky pov. Tho I believe the blind.

Jobsons book w Charles, revealed items about his sons, even the Meghan quote he attributed as a comment on Harry not Meghan. Everyone else took his words out of context but a biographer being a shit starter is never a good look. Doubt Charles has any gains trashing the Sussexes and Jobson already revealed the only critique of them, tho it’s Jobson who deserves some blame. As far as the smear campaign against Meghan, where the goal was to change public perception of her character in 2018 but going back to their first introduction in 2016, is beyond a tiara spat. Because if all is well, why even bother bringing up old conflict that made Harry look like a blind fool and Meghan a scoundrel. Also, the houses gossiping to press this much, this vulgarly against one couple in such a short time is harsh, hope it was worth the new positive press.

      • Olive says:

@Piper “even the Meghan quote he attributed as a comment on Harry not Meghan.”

yep. It’s pure sexism that so many media outlets read Harry saying “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets” as a slam on Meghan and not on Harry!

    • Elisa says:

I agree with MrsBump. The only one looking good after 3 weeks of smear campaigns is Charles, so he IS benefiting from this. The Cambridges look petty, Harry weak and Meghan like a diva.
I firmly believe Charles sanctioned some leaks in the wake of his biography and others (courtiers etc.) followed his lead and started to leak as well.

  5. Fluffy Princess says:

Prince William really comes up short in the charisma department doesn’t he? I think literally everyone in the BRF has more charisma than him.

  6. Rocky says:

I love British dress uniforms. So dramatic. That’s all I got lol

  7. Amide says:

William looks much better with a hat – any hat – on!

  8. Surely Wolfbeak says:

    But did he drive himself?

  9. Leyton says:

To think William used to be a heartthrob. He doesn’t even look hot in a uniform and most men only look hot in uniforms.

  10. jj says:

He looks like his mom in the pictures.

  11. Herewegoagain says:

I was wondering if all British servicemen no longer active duty can wear their full dress uniforms? Or is it only Will and Harry?

    • Royalwatcher says:

This is for US military, but I assume UK is similar…

” Uniform Rules for Veterans and Retirees
The rules for wearing military uniforms as a retired military member or a discharged veteran are similar for all the services. There are certain rules for those seeking to wear the uniform for formal functions, national holidays, parades, military funerals and weddings and other military occasions. Only the Service Dress Uniform may be worn; no work, battle dress or PT uniforms are permitted to be worn by military retirees or veterans.”

      • Herewegoagain says:

I am the grandaughter of two Veterans, one who was a Korean War hero. I am the daughter of a career soldier who spent 28 years in the service and who saw action in Vietnam and first Gulf conflict. My husband is starting his 8th year as a Marine and has done several tours of combat duty. I know the US rules. But even if the US rules apply to UK a normal soldier, who served in the capacity W&K have, wouldn’t be allowed to wear their uniforms to these events.

      • CairinaCat says:

He’s going to be a king one day, so is it really surprising he wears his military uniform of the country he will one day be king of?
        Slightly different rule set

      • Royalwatcher says:

Gosh, sorry, Herewegoagain!!!!!! I was just trying to be helpful. Didn’t mean to piss you off so badly. Geesh.

I took your “question” at face value, but I guess I missed the point that it wasn’t a question but rather a comment.

  12. Anastasia says:

He should ALWAYS wear a hat.

  13. Lady D says:

Does anyone know who the man beside William in the first picture is? I’d like a better look and some knowledge about his seriously impressive array of medals, and the man wearing them.

  14. Big Eyes says:

Every year its a different person who represents HM QEII for the Sandhurst Sovereign Parade, for example 2011 – CIA Director David Patraeus, 2012 – Duke of Kent, 2013 – Countess of Wessex, 2014 – His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, 2015 – HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, 2016 – HRH Duchess of Cornwall, 2017 – HRH Prince Harry, 2018 HRH Duke of Cambridge.

  15. Risue says:

I think it’s an honorary thing with the Royals as the queen is their commander in chief. My Dad always gets annoyed when non-veteran presidents salute.
