Did Prince Harry & Meghan turn down the offer to stay at Anmer Hall over Christmas?

Remembrance Sunday and the centenary of the Armistice

At this very moment, I’m giving myself a chance to feel a small glimmer of hope that the British tabloids have punched themselves out about Duchess Meghan. Punched themselves out… for the time being. We still have a little bit more than a week to go until Christmas. There’s the Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace to look forward to, and then the Christmas morning church walk at Sandringham, and then the end-of-the-year event numbers for all the royals. The British papers will have stories connected to those events in the weeks to come, and so it’s my hope that we’re done with the smear campaign for the moment. So consider this the last gasp, the last attempts to gin up some kind of drama.

The Daily Mail reported this weekend that Kensington Palace has officially confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be spending Christmas at Sandringham. We heard this weeks ago, but the palace is just confirming it now. Will and Kate will not be in Bucklebury. They will be at Anmer Hall. Well, that’s an assumption on my part – the Daily Mail noted: “Kensington Palace today confirmed the couples would be spending the day at the royal estate but could not confirm where they would spend the remainder of the festive period.” There’s also no palace confirmation about who is staying where within the Sandringham property. But The Sun’s sources claim that Harry and Meghan have turned down William and Kate’s offer to stay at Anmer Hall:

Prince Harry and Meghan have snubbed Wills and Kate this Christmas, The Sun can reveal. The Sussexes will be with the Queen at Sandringham amid increasing rumours of a rift between the two couples. Harry and mum-to-be Meghan turned down the option of staying at Wills and Kate’s Norfolk home Anmer Hall, where they had a “fantastic” time with the kids last year.

A royal source said: “There’s not a huge amount of room at Sandringham so it’s quite surprising. Maybe they just want their own space. Things are civil between the couples but they don’t spend much time together.”

[From The Sun]

I seem to remember calling this weeks ago, but honestly, it’s a blur. I said that Prince Charles rode in and saved the day (at least according to HIS version of events) and ordered William and Kate to invite the Sussexes to Anmer. And I said that offer would put Meg and Harry in an uncomfortable position either way – they could stay with the Cambridges and have to hear about how Mean Diva Meg made Poor Kate Cry White Tears for the second Christmas in a row, or they could decline the offer and then the story is “Diva Meg refuses to be in the same house as Steel Marshmallow Kate.” When really, if there is still a beef, the beef is mostly about William and Harry. Anyhoodle… I hope Meghan and Harry just stay at the main Sandringham house and not Anmer.

Bravo Harry and Meghan. After this smear campaign I can’t stand the Cambridges anymore.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

Even if the cambridge’s are not behind this they have a long history to quickly county any story at all they didnt like. And have taken incredible steps to control almost all unwanted narratives. So, even if this isnt them, they’re allowing it. Their office is allowing it. History has been wishy washy on loads of things. Not on how kate and William seize control on their public images.

      • Damasq says:

Every single public figure controls their public image.

      • LahdidahBaby says:

Wiglet Watcher, I completely agree with your assessment.

      • noway says:

That’s funny, and you realize with that logic Meghan controls her mean Meghan image. I don’t think it’s the case with the royals. The Queen’s policy is generally not to respond. I’m not saying they are all hunky dory, but I’m guessing it’s different than what is perceived.

  2. Pokello says:

These tabloids with their crazy stories, why should these people have dyed with each p other yet they have been through a lot together, life is too short, these rags should leave them alone.merry Xmas to all

  3. Yellowrocket says:

The sun ran a story today about how mean Meghan has ordered Harry to miss the Christmas shoot and the effect this will have on the brothers relationship. The smear campaign is still alive and well.

    • launicaangelina says:

I saw that and couldn’t bring myself to read the story. Ridiculous.

    • Chaine says:

Hahaha, the articles about him ditching the shoot have been so OTT, that Harry has “changed” since meeting Meghan. Apparently not only is he not joining his brothers annual bird slaughter, he also was the first one to leave someone’s wedding party to go home to bed! The horror!

      • Ellaus says:

I also laughed at the “once the party prince, he was the first to go to bed ” …. This is getting quite ridiculous, the rags don’t know what to invent and print next.
I think they will be all (the Cambridges and Sussexes)/at Sandringham this year. Ones at Anmer Hall and others at the big House.
And all this sh*tty stories are more fodder made up at the newspapers offices. The leaks they had were quite old, and they are nos trying to stir the pot to get a reaction from Harry…

    • notasugarhere says:

The shoot William himself missed last year because he went instead to the the cut-rate, demanding-the-royal-discount, Real Royal Boxing Day Shoot (TM) Carole arranged last year?

      • Lady D says:

I saw the headline and thought wow, how many times has William dissed Harry in the last ten years so he could stay with the Middletons? William is incredibly guilty of snubbing his only brother at Christmas of all times/s. I guess we have to wait until today for that headline.

      • Damasq says:

Ah, yes, the victim Harry narrative. Hillarious how people get so invested in their lives. They’re all ungrateful and spoiled to me.

  4. Harla says:

Before they received Anmer Hall W&K used to stay at the big house so now that they don’t there is certainly room for H&M. Also, if Doria is coming and is staying at the big house it would be odd for H&M to stay elsewhere and leave her alone with the rest of the family. Gawd, I hope Doria is there for Christmas!

Does anyone know if Charles and Camilla stay at the big house or do they have a home on the Sandringham estate? If they do then H&M&D could stay there and probably have a lovely time.

    • Coco says:

“A royal source said: “There’s not a huge amount of room at Sandringham so it’s quite surprising.“

HOW IS THERE NOT A HUGE AMOUNT OF ROOM IN A CASTLE?

  5. Cidy says:

The problem with this whole thing is that there is no recovery from it. If we see Meg and Kate together everything is going to be overanalyzed to death. If they aren’t smiling every moment of the day they hate each other, if they are laughing its staged. I really, really cant see a beef between them. They probably have a normal sister in law relationship.

I would bet any “arguments” between K and M, probably weren’t arguments at all. Just normal settling. Now we’re going to be beating this dead horse to death for years about this “feud.” That more than likely doesnt exist.

    • Lexie says:

Agree. Most are over the whole dumb story. I don’t put much energy into where they sleep bc I doubt they care as much. But I do worry about how Meghan will be received in public with such nastiness lately.

Regarding the Boxing Day hunting, they say Meghan is to blame Harry isn’t participating. Harry looks very independent to me. Plus they keep calling Meghan a vegetarian even though on their engagement tape the couple say their date night is roasting chicken lol. Again which is The Sun. In The Tig she talks about meat all the time.

    • Bluthfan says:

Eh, if there wasn’t a feud before, there has to be now after the Cambridges smear campaign. That plus their silence as the media batters Meghan and I’d say their relationship is permanently damaged.

  6. Becks1 says:

in some ways, I think I would prefer Sandringham. Yes, more formal, more “protocol” to follow – but sometimes rules and protocol make things easier, you know? I also wonder how much of this is just a desire to be close to Prince Phillip.

  7. Pokello says:

Meghan should just keep a positive attitude for the sake of her baby, her self and her marriage, all the smear campaign will come to pass, and most of all she should always pray to God.

  8. Piper says:

I love The Sun fake news that “where they had a great time last year” ummmm you told us a week ago that Kate cried and yelled at Meghan for being rude and William didn’t even want her there but he begrudgingly allowed it but now it was a great time. Keep your lies straight. I find Richard Palmer the biggest fake news diva – he’s been working hard to continue the feud saying HM didn’t want to stay with WK.

  9. Tanguerita says:

I have to chuckle every time I see the picture of this terrible turd on her head.

  10. Big Eyes says:

I think the Middleton family will be at Amner Hall, although I doubt they will be seen Christmas day for the church walk, only William, Kate, and possibly George. Usually HM QEII has around 30 people (family and extended) at Sandringham House. In reference to In-Laws (including Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson), they stay in Wood Farm, which is modest but fully equipped (Park House is a hotel and York Cottage is the estate offices).

    • notasugarhere says:

Sarah cannot stay at Wood Farm anymore as Philip moved there when he retired. If he calls the shots over who gets to stay there, NWIH is it Fergie. I could see some extended family staying with him to make more room at the main house, like Beatrice and Eugenie and Jack. No idea where Sarah will be this year.

    • Carolind says:

Prince Philip spends most of his time now at Wood Farm so maybe not keen to have Sarah in what is now his main home. When the Queen is at the Sandringham Estate would maybe be a bit strange if he did not stay in the main house with her.

  11. Sara Martin says:

“Increasing rumors” — This is like the job applicant using themselves as a reference.

  12. Talie says:

If the palace knew anything about PR, they would just have Meghan and Kate make a random appearance together this week (and William and Harry!) to kill the pressure on the Christmas walk.

    • Big Eyes says:

^ Yes, the PR opportunities, this week there is still the following; KP Staff Christmas Party, Windsor (and BP) Staff Christmas Party, the Entire Extended Family at BP Christmas Party…all this should be happening Tuesday 18 Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20, or Friday 21 (I think most people will be off by Friday 21 for the Holidays).

    • PrincessK says:

      Good point.

  13. Pants says:

I’ve never really cared about the Royals but I’ve been sucked into this mess. I like both Kate and Meghan. Kate seems more relaxed and in my fairytale Kate is maturing and Meghan is an inspiring family member. You don’t have to be buddy buddy to be inpired. William sure isn’t inspiring and the rest are meh, even Harry, to me.

It’s just hard to take the rumors seriously because they’re from tabloids and everyone looks bad! I can’t see the family leaking rumors. I can see staff causing a ruckus. Basically, I’m on team stop putting the royal family mess on the women.

  14. Eleonor says:

I think the beef is between Harry and William, and both Kate and Meghan are dealing with their husbands, but for the press the feud between the two women sells better, and they are inflating this.
And I think the Cambridges are not smart enough to orchestrate a smear campaing like this.

  15. Rosie says:

I think they all looked far too happy last Christmas for there to have been any rows. Maybe Kate had chronic cravings and Meghan unknowingly ate the last pickled onion but really!!! I can believe that both Harry and Meghan got a bit stressed and demanding before their wedding. What family doesn’t have that, even without TV coverage hanging over you. Most families breathe a sigh of relief once it’s all over. Those tiny things are being used and presented like family splitting dramas. It’s nonsense. William and Harry looked close at the wedding and Kate was acting as a bridesmaid wrangler. Meghan has been treated with the Windsors’s version of warmth at the family events – you can see it!

Anyway I hope they do stay at Anmer, play board games and hide and seek with the kids and William can tease Harry about being an animal rights campaigner.

    • notasugarhere says:

Nanny Maria was the bridesmaid wrangler not Kate.

William and Harry are brothers but not ThisClose and haven’t been for years. They’re in the family business, will work together, but are not in each other’s pockets or best friends. Nothing to worry about and no reason for them to be.

      • Rosie says:

Kate was with the other mums at the church door. She was involved and cooperating A lot of people aren’t thisclose but get on very well when they do see each other. Brothers/sisters are different to best friends. No one else knows what it’s been like to grow up in your family. It creates a unique bond. I’m not sure why you hate William so much Nota did he dump one of your friends at the barracks? 😉

Harry has changed and definitely because of Meghan, she’s a good influence on him. I think his old set probably mind that much more than the family.

    • Big Eyes says:

William and Harry can show the world by playing football, traditional yearly friendly game with the Sandringham estate staff versus the other estate neighbours, whilst Kate and Meghan watch. *There is plenty opportunity, years past pictures of them playing and Kate watching.

  16. aquarius64 says:

This walk to the church is going to be messy. If this smear campaign is Cambridge driven it back fired on them.

    • PrincessK says:

I said it from the very beginning that this will all backfire on the Cambridges, and they will live to regret all this. The younger generation and more liberal minded Brits, not to talk of the wider Commonwealth will not forgive the Cambridges for passively accepting this mental torture being meted out to Meghan. There is a large army of fans out there seething, and if things should tip over the brink there will be hell to pay.

The Queen and Prince Charles meanwhile are doing their very best to shore things up, while the Cambridge’s make no attempt, even for PR purposes to show solidarity with Meghan. Charles joint event with Harry was a clear signal and the Queen is preparing to hand over some of her most high profile patronages to Meghan, very interesting in view of the fact that she is such a new member of RF. The fast tracking of Meghan continues no matter what Team Cambridge think. The Queen is assisting Charles to make sure for the sake of the monarchy that the Sussexes role within it is secure. Kate may have produced three heirs to the throne but that is not enough, the country has to be in support, and Britain and the Commonwealth is not made up of bigoted Daily Mail readers thank heavens.

      • Bluthfan says:

Yeah, I am just mystified by the Cambridges not doing some damage control after the smear campaign has started to backfire.

And you are right that Charles and the Queen have shown support to Meghan and Harry unlike the Cambridges. If the tabloids are right and the Queen gives some top patronages to Meghan this early it will be a strong message to the Cambridges IMO. Kate had to wait years before getting a top tier patronage in Wimbledon.

  17. TheOriginalMia says:

I wouldn’t want to stay with the Cambridges, the Middletons and the Matthews either. Harry & Meghan can stay at Sandringham and then welcome her mom to their place in the country.

  18. Harryg says:

Why so much drama? And why should they be together all the time? Leave Meghan and Harry alone! They make a great couple, I hope they’ll last.

  19. Chef Grace says:

Ahahaha. Take away the royal aspects and you have ‘anyfamily’ holiday drama
I am so happy I do not have to deal with in-laws anymore.

  20. Meganbot2000 says:

Lol at “steel marshmallow”, you crack me up.

I don’t get how them accepting an invitation to spend Christmas with the Queen is snubbing the Cambridges. Surely the Queen trumps W&K?

  21. Serphina says:

Probably for the best. Kate will be tired from making all her chutney and will not be able to be the hostess with the mostest

  22. aquarius64 says:

Royal reporters are saying the queen’s about to give Meghan one of her patronages and Meghan will be announcing them next year. If Meghan is such a troublemaking pill why would the queen hand her a patronage? The tabloids want to drag up a scandal for clicks and they are sliming everybody.

For some positivity here’s something about Meghan’s moments

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/gmp25439465/meghan-markle-best-moments-2018/

Meghan had a up and down year in 2018 but I like the image of her and Harry’s Christmas card. It symbolizes being together, weathering the storms and looking to the future.

    • Bluthfan says:

DM is reporting two top patronages which is a big deal. Also interesting that Meghan also met with the Queen last week. But she didn’t make a big show of it like Kate did.

      • Damasq says:

Why do you read the Daily Mail of all news sites???? I can’t stand people who read the garbage red tops then proceed to moan about their stories. The DM has been trash to M, but here you are believing their new big story on Meghan – giving them multiple clicks to rake more money in.

      • Bluthfan says:

I don’t read DM. I follow a host of royal reporters on twitter and they had info from the article embedded in their tweets. And I never said I believed them.

      • Princessk says:

@Damasq…. l totally get your point but as much as l hate DM l do go there for the pictures. But more importantly there are lots of innocent people who go there and actually believe the trolls and haters, therefore it is important for some of us to periodically dive into that cesspit to counteract the lies and tell people the truth.

    • PrincessK says:

Thank you for the Town and Country link, very uplifting after weeks of gutter journalism reporting on the RF.

  23. Lilly (with the double-L) says:

Thanks Kaiser for the small glimmer of hope too – I appreciate that angle. I especially like picturing the tabloids punching themselves out. I doubt they turned down, or “snubbed,” any invitation. They likely all have their separate activities after the big day.

  24. Sassy says:

Good they didn’t need to stay with them.

  25. liriel says:

Frankly, I feel for Kate. Women usually outshine men, generate more headlines. There is very little she can do on her own without her husband’s permission (she also loves him, I believe.). She couldn’t force William to stay more around George after his birth for heaven’s sake so it shows how little power she has.
Also there are some many people at the palace working.. I don’t like it’s Meghan vs Kate while it should be/is Willam vs Harry. So Meghan and Kate showing up together would confirm the press/trolls that it was a “girls” fight. I can see why they are not doing that.

  26. janerys says:

I go to my parents for Christmas day rather than my sister’s house and we’re very close. Is that a snub?

Maybe, just maybe, we are all reading too much into this. The stories were all royal sisters in law getting on over the summer than suddenly, not. Taking the particular individuals out of it, how many wives of brothers can say they are BFFs. I can think of all the family and friends around me and there are no fights or feuds in those scenarios but they are not bosom buddies either. Just different people thrown into a family setting because their husbands/ partners happened to fall in love with them.

  27. Cerys says:

If all the smear stories have come from the Cambridges then it’s perfectly understandable that H&M would not be staying with them.
