Christina El Moussa got surprise-married to Ant Anstead over the holidays

I totally get that I’m one of the few people around here who genuinely likes to gossip about the stars of HGTV shows. What can I say? Watching HGTV relaxes me and I enjoy some of the personalities on that network. I’ve paid attention to Christina and Tarek El Moussa’s situation over the years – they’re the hosts/flippers of Flip or Flop, which has now been franchised out in other cities. Tarek and Christina split in 2016, and only finalized their divorce this year. They still do Flip or Flop together (and it’s surprisingly watchable), and I have a feeling that they’re still very financially entangled with each other. Plus, they have joint custody of their kids, Taylor and Braden. Christina began dating soon after the split, and she settled down with Ant Anstead, host of Wheeler Dealers, pretty quickly. Well,Christina and Ant got married over the holiday weekend!

The star of HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” married Ant Anstead, host of the car series “Wheeler Dealers,” over the weekend at their Newport Beach, California home. The two told their 70 guests they would be watching the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and surprised them by exchanging vows.

El Moussa was previously married to Tarek El Moussa. The two split in 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2018. They are parents to two children Taylor, 8, and 3-year-old, Braden. Anstead has two children of his own, Amelie, 15 and 12-year-old Archie.

I’m a little bit surprised that Christina would jump into another marriage so soon after her divorce. I’ve been watching the post-divorce season of Flip or Flop, and let me tell you – Christina and Tarek are still incredibly involved in each other’s lives, and it’s not just about co-parenting or being business partners. I believe Tarek is still in love with her, and it felt like he was still holding out hope that they might reunite. Maybe that’s why she got married? To really tell Tarek that there’s no chance for reconciliation?

People Magazine had some exclusive details on Christina’s Ines Di Santo wedding gown – go here to read. Apparently, the lace sleeves were added to an existing design, and then the sleeves were “detachable,” and Christina took them off for the party. Which… is very weird, but whatever.

Yeah I watched the post divorce Flip or Flop too. I think she was/is totally over him and he is still mad that she left him. I think he is still in love with her too.

  2. Emily says:

I was just watching Flip or Floo last night and it was a retrospective of their worst and best flips. She talked about their divorce so casually and he would always look uncomfortable. I sensed that she left him, and the quick move on confirms it.

I never read the gossip about why they split.

I can’t be bothered to Google for a refresher, but I remember that there was drama, cops were called, he had a gun. Sounds to me like a good thing she left and never looked back.

  3. Livethelifeaquatic says:

This is slightly off topic, but I love her makeup look. Dying to know what products she uses.

  4. Eliza says:

I have no idea who these people are. But given all the @s I can see why they jumped in so quick; they didn’t have to pay for it.

  5. Lucky says:

Wow! I love Wheeler Dealers and Ant is a good replacement for Ed China, who was great. Don’t know anything about the bride I watch car shows not HGTV. That being said they make a good looking couple!

  6. Lizzie says:

tarek is a neurotic mess and i get the feeling she was constantly performing emotional smoothing over. she seems so relaxed about the divorce b/c its probably a huge sigh of relief. i don’t judge people’s timelines for moving on. who knows how long she was checked out of her bad marriage and sometimes the best way to get over it is to get under it….

as long as she and her kids are healthy and happy it doesn’t matter.

    • detritus says:

Isn’t he also abusive? Majorly so?

Enough so that the crew had to step in to keep Christina safe on occasions?

      • Lizzie says:

i mean – if i had to guess i would say he was at the very least emotionally abusive (on tape) and was alleged to be physically abusive. i didn’t care to speculate in my post b/c sometimes people get all crazy when you do.

      • Bettyrose says:

I gave up on the show early -despite being a major HGTV addict – because I found it really weird that all Christina ever did was basically repeat what Tarek just said, in a girlier way. I didn’t think much of her intellect, but now I wonder if she wasn’t placating his insecurities by playing dumb.

  7. Dani says:

They are both insufferable and terribly toxic for each other. Bristol and Aubrey from Flip or Flop Vegas have totally replaced them and are so much more likable.

  8. Clancy says:

Christina’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard. But maybe that’s just me.

  9. Zee says:

I have no idea who these people are but who on earth names their child Ant Anstead?

    • AnnaKist says:

I don’t know who they are, either, but perhaps Ant is short for Anthony? Two of my nephews are Anthony, but we call one Ant. The other we call Nino. Long story…

Wait. I just looked him up. His name IS Anthony. He’s English. It’s very common for English people (and we Australians) to shorten Anthony to Ant, and as in my family, his might be a favourite family name.

I’m happy for her, Tarek was verbally abusive and annoyed by her for years, I don’t know how she put up with it. She comes off as being silly and fun to be around. I didn’t realize how mean he was to her until the different cities of flip or flop came out and I saw how normal people interact during flips, lol. Even my husband was like jeez Tarek is really mean to her! She seems relaxed and in love with this guy, and he seems to adore her, it is a little fast for marriage but hopefully it will last. They’re old enough to know exactly what they want and maybe they found it!

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

I don’t know where you got that he was verbally abusive to her. I certainly never saw that in their show. If anything he was always bowing to what she wanted. I feel sorry for him. What a shame this couldn’t be worked out. She definitely has a type, because “Ant” looks a lot like Tarek. I must agree, I think he is still in love with her. I don’t think the show will last because it is so uncomfortable to watch how she treats him now. Too bad. I really enjoyed the show.

  11. MoopsMarie says:

In the years of watching them together, it always seemed to me like Tarek didn’t really *like* Christine: he was so dismissive of her, like he thought she was silly and frivolous and vapid woman who had crazy design ideas and spent too much of “his” money. I had wondered if it was their schtick for the show (a kind of “opposites attract” thing), but neither one are very good actors. That kind of treatment is a slow marriage-killer for sure. I had wondered why they brought another kid into that mix, but my guess is Christine wanted 2 kids no matter what, and figured this might be her last chance.

  12. sequinedheart says:

I live in Orange County CA (where these noobs live) and honestly, I kind of felt sorry for them when they were married/first on HGTV. They were desperate to become part of the wealthy clique that rules this place – and there is nothing wrong with wanting that – but they had so many issues along side that. He had 2 types of cancer, back surgery, she had infertility struggles. Not all marriages are built to last and theirs was certainly put through the wringer, in public.
I’m happy for them now. She seems WAY more chill than she ever was with her new hubby. I hope Tarek realizes he’s got a lot going for himself. Feels like they came out of a really crappy phase of their lives.

    • BCity says:

I love a good local take – thank you for sharing!! Couldn’t agree more that so much happened to them in a short period of time and the marriage didn’t survive it all.

Now if we wanna talk about truly messy and dysfunctional HGTV/DIY folks…there’s Nicole Curtis from Rehab Addict. I follow her on Insta just for when she fights with people in the comments/posts screenshots of her ex’s dating profile. Shame on me 😂

      • sequinedheart says:

OK so when I first watched Rehab Addict, I thought she was such a refreshing girl boss and could carry her own show. And she can/does. But yeah when her personal life started to come forward and how she actually treats peeps (incl her ex-baby daddy) – whoa nelly! she’s nuts!

  13. Lindy says:

I don’t watch HGTV at all so I know almost nothing about these people. But as someone who left an alcoholic, abusive husband and who shares custody with my ex, I can’t help but side-eye her for jumping into another marriage so quickly.

It took me years of therapy and reflection (and focus on my child and career) to get to a place where I was ready for a healthy relationship. And another couple of years after that before I was ready to remarry. I can’t imagine this quickie marriage will last and I feel bad for her kids that they have to cope with a new stepdad so fast.
