Just before Christmas, Andy Cohen announced that he would become a first-time father via surrogacy. Cohen doesn’t seem to be in a relationship right now, and at the age of 50, he sounds committed to raising this child as a single parent. My issue isn’t with his age or his relationship status, but I did have some concerns that Cohen doesn’t seem to like or respect women that much, and I worried that he would have a daughter and everything would be screwed up, long-term. Well, good news? He’s expecting a boy.
While hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve special, Andy Cohen announced the gender of his baby, who will be born in about a month.
“It’s a boy. It’s a boy,” the Bravo frontman, 50, shared on national television speaking with pal Anderson Cooper. “It’s a boy and I got to tell you something, I cannot wait to meet this boy.”
Cohen, who announced in late December that he’s expecting his first child via surrogate, said 2019 will be the “biggest” year for him. Cohen stopped there at sharing more details – he declined to give a name.
“When I was growing up and when we were growing up, I just never thought it would be possible as a gay man to grow up and have a family,” he added. “By the way, by the time it became possible, I was kind of having too much fun in my life to say, ‘I don’t think I can do this right now.’ But here I am, I turned 50 this year,” Cohen explained. “It takes some people longer to get to that place. And it took me that time.” With his son’s arrival set in the next few weeks, Cohen said he’s “getting the gear” and getting lots of “wonderful advice.”
I think in this particular case, it’s probably for the best. I usually think a first-time parent is going to be thrown into utter shambles, regardless of the sex of the baby. But I’m glad he’s not expecting a girl – I think a boy will be easier for him to handle, generally speaking. Also: I suspect that he chose the sex of which fertilized eggs were implanted in the surrogate, because you can do it that now. So my guess is that he wanted a boy.

I’d qurstioned either sex with him!
Same. Now he will raise a child to be an even bigger a$$hole than he is.
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼This
HAHAHA yep.
That means he’s going to raise a misogynistic boy who’ll continue the mistreatment of women for the rest of his life and make the lives of countless women extremely difficult. How is that good news for anybody?
Thank you. That was my thought too.
That just means instead of “screwing up” a girl, he’s going to send another messed up boy into the world to be a terrible person, especially towards women.
Exactly many people fail to realise that some gay men and trans identified males aka transwomen can hate women just as much as anyone. For some reason some women love to give them a pass
I watch nothing he is involved with
Exactly. He doesn’t even try to hide his misogyny. Poor child.
A boy is just as bad because he would pass that misogyny to him.
I used to watch WWHL and I’ve read the Andy Cohen Diaries books. The guy seems like he’s into going out, working out, and 420 edibles.
Parenthood changes your life in ways you can’t predict (from the minute they’re born)-I think it’s going to be quite a wake up call for Cohen. Then again, he’s got enough $$$ to insulate him from some of the harsh parenting realities.
I thought the same things. He isn’t going to want to give up his life. Guaranteed he will have a full time Nanny who will be the real parent.
my thoughts exactly…. Sure, he’s having a kid, but will he really be RAISING a kid?
I don’t watch anything of his, but my impression is that he is not a very good person, and even in pictures I find him off-putting. Hopefully he’s a good parent, at least.
Imagine the outrage if he were a 50 year old single woman.
Nah, not in my opinion. I know many 40-50 + women who birth/adopt/surrogate.
I think the outrage is still moreso when a male does it. Women are generally looked at as maternal and less judged when they raise children without a partner.
Single mothers are the “norm”.
Single fathers are revered.
We still have a long way to go where parenting isn’t gender discriminated.
Andy? Ugh. He annoys the shyte out of me. A gossipy, self absorbed egomaniac with less scruples than luck.
And, yet, it’s possible he’ll make an incredible dad. Kids can can humble you. Especially if it’s not something so easily come by naturally. There is a grateful, appreciative quality that arises.
I wish him and his little one a healthy, happy life.
I don’t think he needs a child. He’s very immature despite his age and I don’t think he’ll raise a child to be a well rounded, fair, and logical human being. They would end up like him- a man with little respect for woman outside of the objectifying trait gay men seem to have.
Awesome I’m so happy for Andy.
He’s SO thirsty … kid will be a photo prop.
Pandy, quite a mean statement.
This is the one situation that I hope a future parent finds a good person to partner up with for the sake of raising a health balanced child. Or one hopes Anderson Cooper is the Godfather and an additional influence in this child’s life. Boys just like girls need to be raised to have respect for both genders. Cohen clearly lacks respect for and is cynical about the female gender. You know 51% of the population!
