Lady Gaga in Valentino & Tiffany diamonds at the Globes: boring or stunning?

76th Golden Globe Awards Arrivals

As a professional gossip/fashion blogger, you can always tell which women have the biggest red carpet contracts, because the companies paying them to wear a certain label or a certain brand of jewelry or a certain shoe will blast out promotional emails to everyone. The longer and more detailed the email, the more money being paid to that actress/celebrity. So it was with Lady Gaga. The Oscar campaign has been happening since August. Gaga has been groomed into this perfectly behaved robot who only tells the same four stories over and over in every interview. Bradley Cooper stays mostly silent, looking on proudly. They tried to play it perfectly. They were expecting Gaga’s entrance and presence at the Golden Globes to be the biggest moment of the night. And everything was going to plan… until the Hollywood Foreign Press Association flipped the script on all of A Star Is Born’s Oscar campaigning. ASIB was shut out of every category except Best Song. It was…amazing.

As I said, you can always tell who is getting the most money. Gaga wore a custom Valentino gown in what I would call an icy blue? Her hair was dyed blue to match, and all of that blue became the backdrop for her amazing Tiffany’s diamonds. We got the email from Tiffany’s – Gaga wore over 300 “sustainably sourced Tiffany diamonds,” all of which were in pieces specifically designed for Gaga. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Gaga was getting paid seven figures to wear Tiffany’s jewelry exclusively during the awards season, or maybe it was just a one-time contract for the Globes. In any case, Gaga was decked out and dressed for the moment. She expected to be on that stage, winning Best Actress. It did not happen. She did get on stage for Best Song, so at least she had that.

Bradley Cooper didn’t get that! Don’t forget, those snubs were yet another blow to his Oscar chances too – there was some talk, months ago, of Bradley running the table with big awards for Best Director and Best Actor and Best Picture. Oh well. He even walked the carpet with his partner/girlfriend Irina Shayk, something they rarely do. She wore custom Versace, by the way. CB thinks Irina has new lips.

  1. Digital Unicorn says:

Gaga was never going to win any best actress awards, granted she has hustled hard for the movie (much harder than Cooper has) but she has very tough competition and up against established actresses who gave better performances.

Its the 4th remake – its not going to win any major awards, esp when its up against original work. The movie was always blatant Oscar bait for both Cooper and Gaga.

  2. AnnaS says:

First of all, I don’t think Gaga has ever looked better than this. Makeup is perfect, color great on her with the tan. Second of all, is it just me or does she look like she lost a bit of weight?

    • Esmom says:

She looks pretty thin although it’s hard to tell with the insane amount of fabric she’s wearing, which is practically falling off. I thought she looked ridiculous and her hairstyle was so unflattering.

      • Kitten says:

        The hair is so bad.

I actually love the color of the dress but dislike that style so much. Her face looks so different with all the plastic surgery.

      • BchyYogi says:

Tho I’m usually against, the plastic surgery was probably good move, considering she wants to expand onto the big screen. I’m thankful she either kept or created the wonky teeth. She would look generic now without some flaw.

    • Aren says:

Agreed on both accounts. I also think she looked gorgeous when she played with Metallica, but her face was very taped there.
I worried when I saw she looked thinner, I hope it’s nothing serious.

      • Megan says:

She tends to seesaw a bit on weight. I think she lost weight for awards season so she would look really great in her gowns. Although if the rest are like this one, she really didn’t need to do so.

    • London says:

I don’t think I could disagree more…it looks to me like she ripped off the duvet from a bed and wrapped herself in it.
The hair style and color are hideous, so very, very try-hard.
      The necklace is gorgeous.
I don’t think she should win anything, it’s a boring, do-over movie, I see nothing special about this film at all.

    • ariel says:

Really? I looked at her and thought- this look has aged her 20 years. She looks matronly and old. She is a very young woman.

      • minx says:

Agree, I liked the color but the whole thing aged her. Too grand dame.
I was very glad Glenn Close won and hope she finally gets an Oscar.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

I think that the gown was a beautiful color, but it is not fitted well enough. The structure should be a little more fitted as it seems to droop where it shouldn’t. Though I agree with others that it could be that her weight has fluctuated could have caused it to be ill-fitting. But crap, it’s the GG, bring in a seamstress as she dressed. Also, she could have shortened the gown as well and still have created the dramatic effect. Though her make up it spot on. As for the jewels, they are gorgeous!
Just a side note, when has Gaga ever attended an event where she was wore just a plain LBD? She is one to go over the top in attire!

      • CooCooCatchoo says:

Matronly – YES. I think she looks much more beautiful with minimal makeup and softer, more natural styling. She was beautiful in ASIB as an ordinary girl. She has very sharp, angular features and the extreme updo, huge dress and accessories make her look at least 15 years older.

      • Fleur says:

I finally watched Gaga’s Five-Foot-Two documentary. I loved it, and I wouldn’t even slot myself as a Gaga fan. I was struck in the documentary by what incredibly beautiful skin she has without all that makeup on (or with minimal makeup), and how PRETTY she truly is without the makeup.

I say this as someone who loves makeup and wears it almost daily. But I really do think she looks even better without it.

  3. Léna says:

Why would someone wear such a big gown for this event? The tables are so close to each other! Everyone would step on it.

    • RBC says:

Maybe Lady Gaga was hoping that if she passed by Leo Dicaprio her gown would knock him out of his seat?

    • Beth says:

That poofy dress is made of enough material to make 5 more dresses with. Big poofy dresses like that look akward to walk or sit in

    • xdanix says:

Yeah, that nearly happened a number of times. Bless BCoop, he ended up jumping out of his seat I don’t even know how many times to grab her train and rearrange to save it from being ruined under someone’s feet 😀 😀

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ Lena : does anyone else think that Bradley Cooper looked like Colonel Saunders on the red carpet? All white suit and black bow tie?

  4. Patsee says:

Irina has always had big lips though, they aren’t any bigger or different looking than they were a few years ago. There are plenty of photos of her, it’s not like you can’t check.

  5. BlueSky says:

I laughed so hard when I woke to the news that ASIB got shut out of everything. Lady Gaga wore that dress because she expected to win Best Actress. I bet she practiced her fake shocked face, fake cry and had her speech prepared about how humbling this is. I’m sorry, I’m enjoying this way too much!!!

    • SM says:

I know. Her face when Glen Close passed by. Priceless. She obvipusly was sure she would win. She is the star, the one and only in her head. Bradley at least doesn’t look so hungry in comparison.

      • Kebbie says:

Lol when I saw her dress I thought “okay, she obviously thinks she’s taking home that award” but I thought she might actually have a chance since it’s the HFPA. I think this was her best shot at a trophy and she lost.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah, Gaga clearly has come into award season thinking she’s going to win – I don’t think either she, Cooper or the movie will win any major awards. She’s a great musician but not a great actress.

    • Lizzie says:

i’m pretty sure a doctor is responsible for her shocked face. i watched her on the carpet interview and she could barely blink or move her lips.

      • jan90067 says:

THIS! lol. Watching the movie, I was SO distracted by the way her upper lip and forehead NEVER moved! That, and the crappy editing of the movie.

If you want to see a great version, find Streisand and Kristofferson’s. Music and acting far superior (IMO, of course 😊)

    • Audrey says:

Completely agree. When Shallow won for best song, her fake shock and tears were just too much for me.

    • Pandy says:

Yeah, she hasn’t paid her dues yet AND it’s a remake movie! Shouldn’t be a contender for anything more than the song. Heh heh heh. Terrible dress and hair and BCoop looks like Colonel Sanders.

    • MrsBeast says:

LOL me too. I was hoping she would have a Faith Hill moment–remember that when Carrie underwood won an award instead of her? Faith Hill freaked out. Gaga kept her cool, I’ll give her that. I am glad she didn’t win. It was undeserved if she had.

    • 2bounce4u says:

If only I could upvote this 😀

  6. Ai says:

Hair color and makeup were good but I dislike the dress and hair style. As a Gaga fan – I enjoyed ASIB and happy she won best song. She still has a way to go for acting.

    • molly says:

The hair style was good, but that blue dye job looks so amateur. It looks like she did it over her sink at home. Why was it so uneven?

  7. TAM says:

I was honestly surprised I ended up liking ASIB. I didn’t think it was going to be good. Lady Gaga was decent in the movie. She looks better as a brunette and very minimal make up tbh. I did not expect her to win Best Actress, but was definitely rooting for her to win Best Song. I do hope the song gets an Oscar nod because I would love to see LG and BC sing it live. Her make up looked good, but hated her train! I don’t know if anyone else noticed it, but Bradley Cooper had to get up and fix it for her quite a few times just so people don’t step on it LOL

  8. Detriotgirl says:

I’m personally enjoying watching Gaga get dragged on social media for having nothing to say about R Kelly. It’s always bothered me that Gaga has positioned herself as some champion of victims yet knowingly worked with R Kelly and Terry Richardson. She deserved that dragging during art pop, and she still deserves it now.

    • Eva says:

      So true.

    • nemo says:

YES! thank you! so many people seem to give her a pass for this. ugh.

    • Wasabi says:

But if it doesn’t happen to Lady Gaga does it even happen? Not unlike Melania Gaga only cares about Gaga.

    • jwoolman says:

Not saying anything is not the same as saying something supportive. She may simply have nothing to contribute because she hasn’t personally had bad experiences with them. If that is the case, shutting up seems wiser.

      • Detriotgirl says:

There’s no way she was unaware of R Kelly’s past. She made a song with him called “do what you want with my body” and then proceeded to make a music video with Terry Richardson, which had to be cancelled because it was problematic AF even at the time. There is no way she deserves a pass on this. She was well aware of the controversy.

She had the nerve to do a song about sexual assault at the oscars the next year, and as a survivor myself, it just made me so mad. How can you sit there and cry about your own abuse and ignore the fact that R Kelly peed on a teenage girl on tape? She called Katy Perry out for being silent about Dr Luke, but we’re supposed to look the other way about Gaga’s silence on R Kelly? Nope. She is self centered, and she is a hypocrite. She deserves to be called out.

  9. Anne says:

Glenn Close has been the favorite to win best actress for months. The biggest mistake of the night was awarding Rami Malek’s fake teeth instead of Bradley Cooper.

    • Lightpurple says:

I think it is finally Glenn’s year and she did give a great performance in The Wife.

    • minx says:

Come on, Rami was great. It’s harder to portray a real person.

    • jan90067 says:

Bradley Cooper’s performance and mumbling didn’t hold a candle to Rami’s performance, (even though they exaggerated Freddy’s overbite with the fake teeth; a bit *too* big, IMO).

    • Tiffany :) says:

I agree that Glenn Close has been the favorite for a while. She’s such an incredible talent and has been award worthy for decades. It’s amazing she’s never won an Oscar before.

  10. Mari says:

Gaga used that dress because Judy Garland use a similar dress on her take of A Star is Born.

  11. Jegede says:

Gaga’s dress look like a result of Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1999 Oscar dress and Penelope Cruz 2000 Oscar dress colliding head onto a taffeta convention.

And I agree with the posters that Gaga 100% expected to be stepping on that stage to make a grandiose speech in the dress.

    • grabbyhands says:

      THANK YOU!

I was about to make a similar comment – she was fully expecting to be properly anointed as an Actress and that was going to be her coronation gown, just like all the princessy things Paltrow wore the year she won for Shakespeare in Love.

    • mx says:

This is legit what I told my husband last night. Good fashion memory – A++

    • Totally Old says:

How about JLaw’s pink Oscar dress? Let’s face it, women only wear these big taffeta concoctions when they think or know they’re going to win.

  12. Bros says:

Gaga could barely move her face to appear happy/shocked about best song and her pained attempts to be emotional up on stage, interrupting the guy talking really annoyed me. What is going on with her completely weird frozen face! She definitely came dressed as the biggest star of the night but I was happy to see Roma win twice over ASIB’s derivative baity bait. Roma was amazing. Saw it in a theater. Makes BC’s directing attempts seem like baby’s first steps in comparison.

    • Kebbie says:

Lol it CRACKED ME UP that Mark Ronson gave the main speech. You know it killed her to not be up there blathering on for ten minutes by herself.

He started talking because she was doing the whole “whoa is me, I’ll take twenty minutes to get to the stage and start talking” thing. Good for him, she’s exhausting.

  13. Notyouraveragehousewife says:

I think she looks fabulous! However, I don’t think she deserved to win best actress so I’m not bummed about her loss. I do wish Bradley would have won though. His performance in ASIB was outstanding!

  14. Lucy2 says:

I like the dress but not the huge sleeves? Is that what they are? I also really dislike her hair, but her make up looks good. She has such strong facial features, I think she looks better with darker, more natural hair.

  15. xdanix says:

Have to admit, I know he’s not widely loved on here, but I’m really sad about BCoop losing. I thought he was utterly fantastic in the movie- best work of his career by far, and miles better than Malek’s Mercury impersonation. Poor thing- always the bridesmaid, never the bride when it comes to awards. If he can’t win for the work he did in this, I really don’t know if he ever can.

    • Mia4s says:

I wouldn’t count him out yet. The Hollywood Foreign Press who gives out these awards is basically 93 (barely) weirdo journalists who have zero to do with the Academy. In years with clear front runners they predict very well because they are desperate to be seen as “credible”. In uncertain or more competitive years their choices are all over the place. Remember when Aaron Taylor Johnson won best supporting actor two years ago? Not even nominated for a Oscar. Regina King who won last night? No SAG nomination. Trust me this nonsense can get a whole lot weirder!

However watch for Cooper to rev up the campaigning. He tried the minimalist, “I’m a serious artist” approach, and took a hit. Time to bring out the baby for more pap strolls! 😁 Awards season, good times!

      • xdanix says:

Aww, thank you for saying that. I hope you’re right! I’ve liked him as an actor for a long time, and sat through him losing a LOT of nominations. Really though this year might be the one he got to claim a shiny trophy. I just don’t think it can bode very well for the film that the HFPA apparently didn’t like it at all (one journalist said that they were never keen on it, were never going to give it the votes to win, but only nominated it so as not to appear irrelevant) when it was supposedly EXACTLY their kind of movie. If even they didn’t go for it, what hope does it have?!

I hope to goodness BC gets out there and campaigns HARD for Best Actor now. Not even baby-toting pap strolls will cut it here, he’s done plenty of that already! 😛 He needs to actually get out there and go to events and do all the glad-handing and all the rest of it. So far he’s done as little as possible AND he’s focused exclusively on Director and it’s done him no favours- he just cannot win that one. He needs to forget that and go HARD in the direction he might possibly still have a shot at winning in (even if he even does *cries*)

      • Melanie says:

Xdanix: But, Christian Bale doesn’t seem to be campaigning(that never really seems to be his style) too hard and he won.

      • xdanix says:

@Melanie I feel like it’s a bit different for Bale though? He’s WORSHIPPED in the industry in a way Cooper isn’t. You basically only have to mention him taking on a role and if it’s anything close to an awards film people instantly start thinking awards prospects. BC, despite having a lot of nominations under his belt, doesn’t have that. And Bale is a past winner, too.

      • Mia4s says:

@Melanie, Christian Bale is a special case. He and people like Mark Rylance fall into their own category. They’re ACTORS as opposed to just actors. Peers and critics have categorized them as such and have a different view of them. If they give a critically acclaimed performance you are credible when you vote for them. Look at us! We recognize true artists!!! With that narrative they can afford to make very few appearances (as long as they are charming when they do appear, and Bale’s speech was very funny).

Not many have that luxury. I’d say Day Lewis does, but he tends to not mind campaigning surprisingly enough. On the female side think Meryl and Dame Maggie Smith. They barely have to lift a finger to be nominated or win. But it’s rare. Cooper is nowhere near that.

    • ks says:

I agree. I thought he was fantastic in that movie and I loved it all- start to finish.

    • TAM says:

You are not alone – I thought Bradley was amazing in the movie. The deep voice really got me, I guess 😉

      • Mellie says:

Agree…I loved the movie, loved him and I thought she was good too, probably not as deserving as he is. I mean she is a natural singer, he is definitely not, but the way he was able to transform himself into one is amazing. I like them both, don’t understand the hate or joy at seeing them, or the movie, fail.

  16. Lizzie says:

gaga’s face looked SUPER weird. bradley cooper’s tuxlooked SUPER weird. i don’t want to hear anything more about this movie – but I do want them to go on tour and only perform the soundtrack. I would pay $500 a ticket to see it. the emu can sing. the sountrack is amazing.

    • Oliviajoy1995 says:

I absolutely loved the movie and recently downloaded and listened to the whole soundtrack. There’s a few really good songs on the soundtrack that weren’t in the movie. “Music To My Eyes” with Bradley and Lady Gaga is such a good song. My new favorite even though it wasn’t in the movie.

    • jan90067 says:

BC looked liked the old Good Humor man who used to drive the ice cream truck around the neighborhoods when I was a kid. All that was lacking was the white hat lol

  17. Daisy says:

Gaga was never the clear favourite to win, she just has lots of fans who are very loud on the internet and tabloids/gossip sites write more about her because she brings traffic. From what I’ve seen, Glenn and Olivia Colman are the actual front-runners (even though my fav performance was by Toni Colette, and she needs more praise!!!!).
Anyway, I think Gaga looked gorgeous and her Valentino dress was amazing. I mean, it’s an award show, people gotta make an effort. The dramatic looks are much better than those tired black, sparkly gowns that looked the same.

  18. Becks1 says:

I don’t love the dress but I think she was trying to be a glamorous Hollywood actress but keep it juuuuust different enough (the sleeves, the hair) to still be Gaga. She should have gone way or the other though.

I haven’t seen ASIB but I have found the Oscar campaigning over the past few months to be obnoxious, so I was amused to hear Glenn Close won (I was in bed by the. #tooold.)

    • jwoolman says:

I’m just glad she no longer wears meat… She’s a very talented singer, so it’s good that the stunt phase seems to be over.

The dress looks like it needs a scissors, though. That train seems rather restrictive.

  19. Amelie says:

I enjoyed A Star Is Born, given I had never seen any of the previous versions (and I would like to). But it is the fourth (?) remake of a story that was never original in the first place. I think for Gaga, this was probably a huge challenge as she has never starred in a movie before and it probably brought her places emotionally she has never been. And it’s clear she stretched herself but she is not a super great actress. Bradley Cooper is a great actor and it’s cool he directed a movie but he took a story that has been told so many times before. I would have been more impressed had he conceived a completely original idea. The music is great but I dunno, I feel similarly about this movie as I did Walk the Line. Solid movie but the music was better than the storytelling (Joaquin Phoenix did a phenomenal job as Johnny Cash but I never understood why Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for playing June, she wasn’t THAT great).

As for her outfit, the shoulder embellishments just make me think of tousled bedsheets and now by extension her entire dress. The necklace is magnificent though!

    • L84Tea says:

I liked the music from Walk the Line so much that I actually now prefer Joaquin’s version of the songs more than Johnny Cash’s, which I realize is kind of crazy.

      • xdanix says:

@L84Tea Same here! I’m so glad you said that, I thought it was just me!

      • Lady D says:

My son was raving about a new Disturbed song called Sound of Silence. I was very happy to introduce him to the original, which he decided wasn’t as good as the Disturbed version. I had to put my head down for a moment. I’ve obviously failed as a parent.

  20. Other Renee says:

Re Gaga, I’m going to just say no to the dress. ☺️ I dislike her hair intensely. I don’t understand why this award is so prestigious with only 88 people voting.

    • Giddy says:

Are you familiar with when big designers do limited edition Barbie dresses? Shrink Gaga’s dress and it’s Barbie Does Hollywood.

  21. Ty says:

Can we talk about how lady Gaga has been silent regarding the docuseries of Surviving R. Kelley.

    • Miles says:

I hope celebitchy covers this story and covers all the musicians who declined to comment on it. Just like the people who worked with Woody Allen were dragged and called out. The same people who worked with R. Kelly and have declined to comment, need to be called out about it.

    • Kittyfarts says:

It’s not to say she won’t comment in the future. Maybe she just thinks now during award season isn’t the best time. This isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s been going on for 15+ years. Plus why is she responsible for speaking out… RCA still hasn’t dropped him. Jay-Z declined as well. No one is ripping him. Many celebs have declined to speak on this. I suspect they’ve been advised to not comment. We don’t know WHAT they truly know. This site is full of the most judgemental people!

      • TurkeyLurkey says:

I think people want her to comment as she said she herself is a sexual assault survivor. Did she not perform at the Oscars last year with all the sexual assault survivors for a song from a documentary? The fact that R. Kelly was accused of sexual assault and she puts herself out there as champion of sexual assault survivors is why I believe more may be expected of her. She knew the allegations and did a rather raunchy song and video with him. That is in direct contrast with her acting like a champion for sexual assault survivors. Just my opinion.

      • Lady D says:

I’m sure she’ll say something after the awards season.

      • Miles says:

Stars last year were forced to talk about sexual assault during awards season. Greta Gerwing was forced to address Woody Allen during awards season. Again it’s interesting how some people like Lady Gaga get passes but other people are either forced to talk about it or it follows them everywhere they go.

Until Gaga speaks about it, I’m going to continue treating her like the hypocrite that she is.

    • Div says:

I think what Gaga did was shitty and terrible, but pretty sure she was also coked out of her around at that time and she did scrap the song. It doesn’t excuse it, but I do think context should be factored in. Just not really hear for using a horrible sex abuse case as an excuse to drag folks (who are semi-complicit for working with him) more than the actual guilty party and the people in power (record executives) who kept him a star.

As far as twitter….I love Bey way more than Gaga, but it is damn ironic and hypocritical that some of the Hive is going after Gaga and Rihanna when Bey also worked with Terry Richardson and was hanging around R. Kelly years after all that shit with him went public. And nobody wants to bring up that Jay did a joint album and tour and even had a song called “Innocent” with R Kelly after the allegations…

TLDR; the stars are complicit and did some shitty, terrible stuff, but the record executives, producers, etc. need to be dragged into the light rather than someone who did a song with him once. And various stans of celebrities choosing to go after celebrities and turn the focus on that, more than Kelly and the record label…is not good.

      • Raven says:

        @DIV

Jay Z was called out just like Gaga since the documentary aired on TV as were many others. Beyonce, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Gwyneth Paltrow and more were all called out for working with Uncle Terry.

        @KITTYFARTS

I don’t know when she made the song with R Kelly and was called out for working with him she made no comment about R Kelly or Uncle Terry. She’d even defended her video with R Kelly after her record label chose to take the video down.

      • eto says:

I think the call for Gaga is so strong because the song she did with was SO recent and the song itself ” Do What You Want (with my body)” was honestly disgusting when you take in the fact that R.Kelly is on the song. The song came out after that big expose a few years ago and many of her fans called on her to address the fact she was working with him…and she ignored them.

I think it’s similar to the Woody Allen thing – people who worked with him in the past few years – after the big article – were taken to task more aggressively than folks who worked with him before then.

  22. Miles says:

That dress looks like she stopped by Pep Boys on the way over to the Globes and bought a bunch of car covers and wore them.

Also I laughed so hard to see A Star Is Born get shut out besides best song. Cooper and Gaga have been campaigning shamelessly for all these awards and they really thought they were going to sweep, didn’t they. Lady Gaga prob practiced her best actress speech and everything too lol

  23. M.A.F. says:

ASIB is going to get the music awards but not much else. The story is same as it was in the three previous films and her acting was just okay, it was nothing spectacular.

And isn’t her hair blue because of her Vegas shows?

    • MissM says:

I’m pretty sure that the blue hair is just some of that colored hairspray. When she was on stage it was a deeper blue on her bun and blonde around the edges so I dont think it had been colored.

  24. Otis7 says:

She looks like she fell into food coloring container and I hate the whole thing (minus the Tiffany diamonds…. <3 )

  25. Imeanreally says:

Well, at least Bradley won for Hottest Girlfriend.

  26. Mrs. Darcy says:

I actually like the dress, I mean, it’s a huge bedsheet, but the dress part looks pretty and well fitted and the color is great and her face and jewellery look stunning with it. I could do without the matching Smurfette hair but it is Gaga so it’s to be expected I guess. I’m confused is the wrap connected to the train? I haven’t seen ASIB because it looks super hokey to me, could be totally wrong but I’m just not that into B.Coop so I don’t feel too bad that this big presumed frontrunner is getting awards snatched from it, I prefer unpredictable awards seasons. Am sure she will win the best song Oscar though so I’m not feeling to sorry for Gaga. Glenn has been turning in staggering performances for years, it’s not like she isn’t overdue a win. If Gaga is serious about the acting thing she won’t let this put her off.

  27. Div says:

Ugh, I’ll get yelled at but ASIB is a better film than Greek Book and Bohemian Rhapsody (and La La Land, which it gets compared to), and Gaga absolutely deserves a nomination for best actress; although, I would argue that Glenn Close or Olivia Colman (Olivia was in the comedy category and won) are more deserving of a win. And I don’t think Gaga is that naive or arrogant enough not to realize that Glenn had a good chance of winning.

    TLDR:
If Beale Street can Talk, Roma, and the Favourite are > ASIB > Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody

And of the most likely Oscar nominees and the Drama and Comedy categories at the GG…

Olivia Colman and Glenn Close > Lady Gaga > Nicole Kidman in Destroyer (I love her, but the film and performance…) and Melissa McCarthy. Although Yalitza Aparicio from Roma should absolutely be in the mix ahead of everyone else, she’s not getting a nomination.

  28. YesImHere says:

I don’t care much for her. I won’t see her movies, and I don’t buy her records. It’s hard for me to be a fan of someone who preaches to others about loving themselves, and yet had a very obvious full face re-working at the tender age of 25, including lips, chin, cheeks, nose, and eyes. I just cannot with this girl.

  29. mikaela says:

This is what Gaga said about working with R. Kelly when she was asked about the child abuse allegations back in 2013: “‘R Kelly and I have sometimes, very untrue things written about us, so in a way this was a bond between us,’ said Gaga of their work together on the single ‘Do What U Want.'”

    • TurkeyLurkey says:

Sounds like he basically groomed her to do what he wanted like the young girls he assaulted. He found a weakness and exploited it for his own purpose.

      • Raven says:

How did R Kelly groom Gaga? She was not a child when they work together and it was her project not his. She chose to work with him, when she could have did the song with anybody else, but she chose him and Uncle Terry.

      • Miles says:

I’m guessing you don’t know what the definition of groomed is?

  30. Renee says:

    Bradley looks like Colonel Sanders….

    • Vanessa says:

From some angles he’s a ringer for George Hamilton. WTF did he do to his face? It’s so puffy and shiny.

  31. Brandy Alexander says:

Gaga has had a contract with Tiffany’s for years. The one in Fashion Show Mall in Vegas has had pictures up of her up wearing their jewelry since long before A Star is Born went into production.

  32. Murphy says:

I like the dress and the jewelry but the hair ruins it. I don’t know if this is “the look” but it looks like she dyed it a different shade of blue like 2 months ago and let it grow out and fade and that was the finished product. Wut?

  33. MrsBeast says:

Gaga, being the narcissist that she is, REALLY believed she had this in the bag. You can tell by the way she dressed, the air of superiority, everything, that she expected to be on that stage again and again. I am so glad it didn’t happen. I cannot stand that woman. There are FAR more deserving women who were up against her and far better films. I sincerely hope she is not nominated for an Oscar. The film is a remake for gods sake, not even an original. Oh, and in my opinion, she was worst dressed. I didn’t care for most of the dresses last night but hers was an ugly mess.

    • 2bounce4u says:

Well, how her stans go nastly after foreign press and even Glenn Close on social media she probably won’t even be nominated lol

  34. Janet says:

I think the problem with awards has become that it’s not really how good you are at acting anymore it’s how much you campaign, who likes you best, if people think you’ve done your time, etc. Bradley Cooper was amazing in this movie. You would never know it was him he was able to step out of who we is and play someone entirely different. That is acting. And for that he deserves an award. As far as I’m concerned GagaI did the same It’s like the Oscars are a popularity contest and they were never meant to be that. As well the Academy has to make all the interest groups “happy”. That is why hardly anybody watches anymore.

    • Raven says:

Both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga Campaign hard for these Awards since the mid of last year. They played the game and it didn’t turn out well for them so far and most likely won’t at all.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“They played the game and it didn’t turn out well for them so far”

Are you kidding? They have tons of nominations and they’ve done pretty well with awards that have been decided. Sounds like a lot of snark without the facts to back it up.

      • xdanix says:

@ Raven No, they didn’t. Gaga campaigned more, I’ll give you that, but she still didn’t campaign as hard as some of the actresses she would have been up against. And Bradley hardly campaigned at all since the movie was released in early October- he took himself almost totally off the Hollywood scene for literally months afterward. He only showed up when he had to. It’s actually been one of the criticisms I’ve seen levelled at him today- that he lost the award because he DIDN’T campaign enough.

    • Karen says:

It has been like this for years. Did I like ASIB? Yes. Was it amazing no. I would say the both deserve nominations but only win for music. Many actresses have won based on their cumulative box office success and not necessarily being the best actress of the year.

I love Gaga. She is really a talented musician and singer. Actress not at this time.

  35. Marjorie says:

Sitting right in front of Gaga were Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, true genius legends. Taylor wrote Radio Gaga, from which Steffi G took her name. She could have said hi…also everyone needs to know that Brian May also has a PhD in astrophysics as well as certain guitar skills.

    • Tiffany :) says:

She’s already met Brian May. She performed with him back in 2011 and he played on her album.

  36. Vanessa says:

It’s ridiculous that people are giving lady Gaga a pass for working with R.Kelly saying oh she was on drugs its totally Bs. People on twitter told lady Gaga about R.kelly this wasn’t the late 90s their was well documented proof that R.kelly was and still a monster when lady Gaga decided to work with him . She knew about the allegations she just didn’t care because at time she want to be the number one pop star again lady Gaga was helping Kesha with her case against her producer. Lady Gaga didn’t care because the victims of R.kelly are all black and brown woman and young girls lady gaga is all about woman survivors when the looked like her . Lady Gaga is the definition of white feminists they only care about themselves and another woman who looks like them point blank period.

  37. Enough S Enough says:

I love everything about Gaga but to revise an old phrase, that dress wore her.

Too heavy. Too much. Like a Hitchcock drapery, smothering her.

  38. Bee says:

ASIB probably can’t believe that another music based film flounced in with all the confidence of Freddie Mercury, grabbed all the awards and promptly exited stage left calling “bye darling!”. I LOVE IT

  39. MrsK says:

I think she was aiming for Tiffany’s “robins’ egg blue” – the color of their gift boxes – in her hair and gown. The gown looks more robins’ egg blue on other sites for some reason.

  40. Suz says:

GaGa can do what she wants since she put Leo “PussyPosse” DiCaprio in his place a few years ago. And her face looks more like her own than it has in a while.

  41. A says:

I didn’t like A Star Is Born on principle because I feel like that story has been done to death. The aging industry legend who finds their spotlight slowly dying, usurped by the young ingenue that they were responsible for who ultimately surpasses them. Not only was this go-around a fourth remake of the same film, we also saw this plot line get rehashed in The Artist, no?

Anyway, at the risk of sound like an ahole, I gotta say, Bradley Cooper just looked super weird to me all throughout the Golden Globes. Sorry. I feel like he’s trying to tone himself down and sell himself as a “serious artist” even though he’s always going to be that guy from The Hangover and Rocket Raccoon. He’d be better off leaning into that part of his personality, because he’s clearly capable of being charming and funny when he wants to be.

With all that being said though, Lady Gaga looked stunning in this gown and her diamonds. I love the colour of this dress especially, and the hair and the styling and the diamonds all make for a very striking look. It’s clear she wanted to win, but I’m glad she didn’t, because that would have been an awful cliche.

  42. Jag says:

The necklace is beautiful and the dress is a pretty color. I hate her hair color, though. And the tailoring of the dress is off.

Irina’s dress is gorgeous! It does look like she has lip fillers – not a good look, imo. But wow, she looks great.

  43. ladytron2000 says:

    Stunning or boring?

    How bout RIDICULOUS?

  44. Lis says:

My biggest issue with it was the hair colour. Can’t help to feel that some other colour would have been a better choice.
