Angelina Jolie still shops at malls all the time & she even brings her kids

Angelina Jolie spends a day shopping at the mall with her kids and an assistant

I recently read a Twitter thread about the differences between Generation X, Xennials and Millennials, and now I’m thinking about it with regards to Angelina Jolie. Angelina has always been rather low-tech, hasn’t she? Angelina is Gen-X, but so many of her references feel so ‘70s. She prefers a less modern approach to life. She has a iPhone of course, but I bet she still calls people on her landline. She still shops in malls, which few people do at this point, and she encourages her kids to do crafts. I bet she has a typewriter.

Anyway, these are some photos of Angelina making yet another trip to a mall. She took Knox, Zahara and an assistant-type to the Century City Westfield Mall over the weekend. She looked like any other mom, I guess. Black slacks, black boots, black coat and a simple white blouse. Zahara is such a fashionista, right? So fashion-forward. I wish Zahara would really start styling her mom.

I’ve missed seeing Angelina during the awards season, but I wonder if she’ll come out for the Oscars, as a presenter? She doesn’t have anything immediate to promote, and Brad Pitt actually produced two of the films which are likely to get some Oscar nominations (If Beale Street Could Talk and Beautiful Boy). I’d say that Brad is more likely to make a surprise appearance at the hostless Oscars, especially since he’s been doing some low-key campaigning for the films he’s produced, but you never know. I could also see Angelina stopping by.

is Zahara a teenager yet? she’s always been beautiful and self possessed and has reminded me of Angie in that way.

    • Booie says:

      Yes. Fourteen.

    • whatWHAT? says:

I cannot get over how grown up she looks in these pics! I usually love her style but this onesie is NO-GO for me.

      as for this…

“She still shops in malls, which few people do at this point”

in NJ, we still do malls. BOY, do we still do malls. I know malls are dying but, I think just as with Starbucks and Gap on every corner in NYC, it was an oversaturation (or poor location) issue. build them too close to each other, and either one or both will die. build one with high-end stores in a low-income/working class area, they die. but build one with a Nordstrom or Bloomies or Neiman Marcus close by to a Sears or Target or JC Penney, you cover all demographics.

      • Allium says:

I think the next trend is building mini malls in the foyer of apartment blocks. Guaranteed traffic.

      • SK says:

Most people I know shop in malls and also shop online. Malls are definitely still a thing though. I live in Australia btw. I’ve also lived in Various Asian and middle eastern countries where it is Mall Life to the Max!! Ha ha ha!

Also, don’t all kids craft? My nieces and their friends all craft and my friends’ kids all craft. They craft at school, they craft at home, they craft at special events… if anything crafting has become even more advanced!

God, I remember when Zahara was a baby! She looks so grown-up and cool, I’m kinda jealous. She’s obviously ‘the fashion one’ of the kids.

  3. Nina Simone says:

I need Zahara’s shoes! Can anyone ID ?

  4. Insomniac says:

I’m amazed she can still find malls to hang out in. Almost all of the ones near me are gone or dying fast now. Open air “town centers” are the thing around here now.

    • Booie says:

Seriously? All the malls near me are always packed, so I hate going for that reason. It baffles me when people say that malls are dying. I guess it varies by location.

      • K-Peace says:

Yeah, same here. My local mall is always packed. It’s always hard to find a decent parking spot. Like you said, it must vary by location. (I’m in New England.)

      • whatWHAT? says:

still going strong in NJ, too. (the land of the mall and diners!)

    • Genessee says:

Century City Westfield is an “open air” shopping center. The only two closed-in malls in the L.A. area are The Beverly Center and The Glendale Galleria. The Westside Pavillion (where “Clueless” was filmed) has been converted to Google offices.

    • Beth says:

The malls in my area have become almost ghost towns with few shoppers, once popular stores are permanently closing, and even some of the malls are permanently closing. Most people shop online or at the multiple outlet malls around me, so if I want to have a quiet day, one of the few indoor malls that are still around are where we go

    • minx says:

Lots of anchor stores have gone under so the malls around me are deteriorating.

    • Snowflake says:

I’m in Florida and that’s what they love to build here. Open air town centers not closed in malls. I like them better than malls.

  5. MICHELLE says:

Zahara i think turned 14 last week. That’s what i read. They have grown up so fast. Angelina definitely is Gen X.

  6. Brittney B says:

I stay away from malls precisely *because* of the crowds… especially outlet malls and other open-air shopping centers. Throughout the past decade, most of my food service and retail industry friends have worked in malls at some point.

The whole “hanging out at the mall” thing is outdated, now that kids have extracurriculars and use social media to link up, but I think a LOT of brick-and-mortar shopping is still done in malls.

  7. minx says:

    I can believe this.

  8. Ravensduaghter says:

Knox looks darling in that newsboy cap!

  9. kristen says:

Zahara looks gorgeous, but everyone looks to be in jackets/coats. I’m shivering just looking at her.

  10. bitchyarchitect says:

not exactly what the mom’s in my area dress like. Noone is sporting high heeled boots and black. Jeans and vans is more like.

  11. CairinaCat says:

I was just at the mall yesterday, the parking lots are always packed. I’m within 5-10 driving of two enclosed malls
    They aren’t going anywhere.

And when I lived in northern California near San Francisco, indoor malls are a must.
It rains so much, a big chunk of the year and then summer across the bay from San Francisco is freaking hot, like 105-115 hot, so then malls are a must for the air conditioning.

I’m in southern California now and it’s been raining for two days and supposed to continue for 4 more.
I’ll be doing my walking in the mall, so I don’t get soaked.

  12. Kelly says:

I saw her at that mall with Maddox about 14 years ago. She seemed chill and nice and no one was bothering her. It is probably a favorite of hers, it is a really nice mall and very popular.

  13. Sidewithkids says:

I live in the DC area and malls do exist. We have several. But yes, more and more, we’re getting out door shops popping up. We should have malls tho. They’re important.

Zahara has grown into a beautiful girl. Love her braids. She should get locs. They would be great on her. I believe she’s the most like Angie which is kinda funny since she is adopted. I remember when Angie said she was the backbone of the family. I can believe that. Zahara just strikes me as someone who can talk to anyone and make them understand something, she gives me that vibe. Sweet yet serious. All the kids seem to be well behaved and cool tho. Can’t wait to see what all of them do as they get older as adults.

Angie looks good too. Love her shades. Lol. No way is she like any other Mom there tho. She is uniquely herself. That’s what I love about her.

    • Pajala says:

I completely understand your surprise at Zahara being so much like Angie, but as someone who adopted a 16 year old, you’d be amazed at how many kids adopted as teens take on the personalities, mannerisms and values of their adoptive parents.

  14. Anastasia says:

I haven’t gone near a mall in years. I avoid big box stores, too, if I can.

I can’t believe Zahara is 14! And Knox is just adorable!
