Gwyneth Paltrow has a new cookbook, ‘The Clean Plate,’ with ‘detoxes & cleanses’

Did you know that Gwyneth Paltrow has “written” a new cookbook? I did not know that before I saw these photos. Gwyneth’s previous cookbooks – It’s All Easy, It’s All Good, Notes From My Kitchen – were bestsellers, although they weren’t well-liked by cookbook critics. Apparently, Gwyneth comes across like who she really is: an unhealthy woman with an unhealthy relationship to food, and someone who will try any fad diet out there. Gwyneth’s latest cookbook is The Clean Plate: Eat, Reset, Heal. These photos are from a book signing she did in LA yesterday. This is the Amazon blurb about the book:

Gwyneth Paltrow gets the power of simple, quality food. Her recipes focus on delicious flavors and clean ingredients–pillars that have launched her cookbooks to bestseller status. Now she’s back with her most ambitious cookbook to date: a collection of 100-plus recipes and customizable meal plans that offer taste, simplicity, and targeted health benefits.

This food-lover’s cookbook brings everything to the table–from smoothies and soups to bowls, entrées, snacks, and desserts–with the ease and flavor that we have come to expect from Paltrow and her team at GOOP. Highlights include instant staples like Turkey Meatball Pho, Sheet Pan Chicken Broccolini, and Butternut Squash Tacos, and sweet treats like Cashew Turmeric Iced Lattes and Chocolate Chia Pudding. Beyond the appealing recipes, THE CLEAN PLATE has meal plans, detoxes, and cleanses to address the reader’s specific needs and desired results.

Just the thought of “Cashew Turmeric Iced Lattes” made me vom a little bit. But this isn’t really about the quality of the food, it’s about the “detoxes and cleanses” part of the description. Let me ask the people who buy Gwyneth’s cookbooks: do you really need to spend the money to have Gwyneth tell you in writing that you should be detoxing and cleansing to the point of ill health? WHY?

    • Nievie says:

seconded. or buy anything by Jack Monroe- the queen of healthy cooking on less than £2 a meal….what we actually need in this climate haha

Plant Paradox killed all of my pain. Now I cook for my family from it. There is a professional chef in Utah who also has an autoimmune disorder that didn’t respond to drugs (lectinfreegourmet.com), and I am so happy! I feel like I’ve been restored to my factory setting, lol. I eat carbs, but they don’t have lectins. I’m makin sourdough bread. It sucks to have to do it from scratch, but it’s better than being in pain. And I eat a lot of Siete products. They make the BEST “corn” chips and tortillas. It was hard when I didn’t know how to substitute wheat flower and didn’t have chips and tortillas and bread. Weight is dropping, and consitipation is non-existent. I’ve never been a dieter. I only tried it because the drugs didn’t work, and I’d been following doctor’s recommendations for years and only got sicker. I’ve learned that what you don’t eat is more important to health than what you do eat, at least for my body and for others with autoimmune disorders. I grew up in LA and actively refused to do the diets followed by actresses. They all need to be a size 2, so they don’t eat, and a lot of them look unhealthy in person, at least to me.

I am very happy to hear that you got better! I am suffering from chronic pain and my life got so much better when I dropped gluten and dairy, but I still struggle. I read Plant Paradox and while I obviously dont mind mayor food and lifestyle changes (see gluten and dairy) I was shocked about the amount of vegetables that I wouldnt be able to eat anymore. I love vegetables!
I have question for you, to build up my own motivation: how long did it take for you to notice a difference? When was the pain gone?
      Thank you 🙂

Sojaschnitzel, I felt it working in 1-2 days. It BLEW MY MIND. I started by putting MCT oil in my coffee and having eggs for breakfast. The diet gets OLD if you don’t learn the paleo alternatives. I eat blueberry pancakes now – no issues, but they are paleo. I was doing it to lower my cholesterol because I’m allergic to statins. Separately, I have degenerative disc disease and was having horrible swelling and pain in my hips. I thought I was going to have to retire early. My doctor ordered an MRI because she suspected that it was arthritis. I cancelled it because most of the pain vanished in a couple of days. ALL of the pain IS GONE. My gut feels healed.

I was sick over Christmas and couldn’t cook. My husband heated some
Ministrone soup for me (filled with lectins, but I was sick and didn’t care). I threw it up within 30 minutes. I won’t touch a bean unless it’s been pressure cooked.

    Those “trousers”.

Does she not know that there is a thing called sunscreen? I watched a video with her washing her face. She S C R U B S the living daylights out of her face. I would never take advice from someone who abuses their skin like a psycho. #leatherface

    • minx says:

Yep. I’m 20 years older than she is, and my skin doesn’t look too different. Of course I have more weight on me than she does.

    • Christina says:

I don’t know. The scrubbing works. There is this story about Jane Goodall at a summer with donors, and one of the women complimented her glowing, youthful face and skin. The lady asked her, “what do you do to get such beautiful skin?” Her answer? “I wash my face.”

Eating well and exfoliating work. Using expensive product works for some people, I guess. But I just scrub my face and use Eucerin face cream, and old friends from HS tell me I haven’t aged. I’m 50, but I’m also cheap and suspicious of things marketed to women by Madison Avenue.

  5. minx says:

I think “her team at Goop” did the work, of course. I wouldn’t give one penny of my hard earned money to this charlatan.

  6. Nina says:

You know what else detoxes and cleanses? A healthy liver and kidneys. Barring disease, the human body is perfectly designed to detox itself.

  7. Sam says:

She looks like she makes jewelry out of sea glass and other found knick-knacks. She might also be about to read your Tarot.

  8. Leslie says:

She just doesn’t look healthy to me. She’s thin sure but something is off.

  9. Jenns says:

As soon as I hear “detoxes and cleanses”, I’m out. I don’t care who is selling it.

  10. Dinah says:

Hey, I like sea glass jewelry & tarot cards! But I really don’t like people who tell me to shove a Jade egg up my hoo-hah.

  11. SuperStef says:

I’m not a GOOP fan (she’s an elitistly clueless cow, IMO) but I did buy this cookbook on the weekend (40% off baby!). Some interesting recipes and ideas.

Haven’t started using it yet but will do and report back soon. 😊

  12. Tw says:

I am sure her loyal following of fellow orthorexic, rich white women will buy the book.

  13. Jans says:

Oh my gosh, she looks just like a young Martha Stewart in these pics, just with longer hair!

    • Blair Warner says:

I think she looks exactly like her mother here … she’ll be lucky if she ages so well! Blythe Danner is stunning.

  14. Izzy says:

The book costs $30, which means they are overcharging for it by $29.99.

  15. Betsy says:

I don’t do detoxes or cleanses. Her first two cookbooks had some recipes that made it in into my regular rotation. I don’t care if they were ghost written by a real chef (Julia Turshen did the second one with Gwyneth, I believe), they have some good recipes.
