Jennifer Lopez ‘didn’t know’ A-Rod would propose to her on their romantic getaway

Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Summer 2018 TCA

Who should be more embarrassed about this Us Weekly cover, Taylor Swift or Jennifer Lopez? Even though I think Tay-Tay is doing the performative-privacy thing with Joe Alwyn, the whole JoeTay thing is so much less embarrassing than J-Rod. That being said, sure, I totally believe that Taylor wants Joe Alwyn to propose. That’s a different story though, let’s talk about J-Rod and how they got engaged after two years together, and how Jennifer was “surprised.”

Surprise! Jennifer Lopez “didn’t know” Alex Rodriguez was planning on proposing to her on vacation at idyllic Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas on March 9, a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“They’ve talked about marriage and have always planned to spend the rest of their lives together, but they were so happy with exactly how things were, they weren’t sure if they wanted to go down that road. It’s almost like they didn’t want to jinx it,” said the insider.

But after two years together, “Marriage is something that became important to both of them and their kids,” says the source. (Lopez, 49 shares twins Max and Emme, 11, with Marc Anthony, and Rodriguez, 43, is dad to Ella, 10, and Natasha, 14, with Cynthia Scurtis.) “They know they want to make this commitment to forever together.”

On one side, I think Jennifer’s “surprise” is utter horsesh-t. I think she was waiting and waiting for Alex to propose and she was increasingly grumpy that he hadn’t. I still believe that she gave him an ultimatum. She was expecting his proposal, 100%. She even had a perfect manicure for the ring photo. On the other side, I do genuinely enjoy the fact that they’re both parents from previous marriages and that blending their families was so important to them, and they wanted to get that right. All that being said, yes, Alex is a cheater. And it’s pretty clear that Jennifer doesn’t care.

Alex posted this photo of Jennifer’s surprise when he got down on one knee.

I love that mirror dress so much…

  2. Victoria says:

Ok the proposal going down… is that a re-enactment or is that the actual proposal? I’m sure she demanded a proposal after catching wind of the cheating rumors. Girl you can do better 🤦🏻‍♀️

  3. Astrid says:

I always expect a photographer to be present when I surprised by a proposal (sarcasm!)

    • BlueSky says:

Came here to say the same….

    • mtam says:

LOL! I 100% believe those photos were staged after the cheating rumour started. It took a few days for them to “release” these, yet they are horribly photoshopped–which to me means it’s more of a case of a rush job. However, I do think JLo was prob caught off guard with the actual proposal, and that’s why they only showed the pic of the hands at first, and then they staged this days after to show how much “in love” they still are despite the rumours.

  4. Audrey says:

If it was a surprise, who took the photo?

    • mtam says:

…and also who styled her hair and make-up? The rest of the vacation pics she is way more casual, no make-up, no jewelry, messy bun. It’s possible they went to a diner and she got dressed up, but everything just seems so staged and performative still, specially in light of the cheating rumours they want us to forget/ignore.

  5. BaronSamedi says:

Bwahahaaaaa!! So suprised they had a photographer on stand-by!

I don’t think Jennifer was waiting for anything there. They probably talked about this, she was involved in picking the ring and then it was just up to him to organize it.

  6. Eliza says:

Why is there a white halo around them on the beach? What in photoshop heaven is this?

  7. Emily says:

This is the second time I’ve heard someone mention her manicure as proof that she knew it was coming. I’m not saying she didn’t know, but I am saying I doubt J-Lo’s nails are ever anything other than perfect.

  8. Jegede says:

Manager, Benny Medina and camera crew were following them all by coincidence I guess.

  9. Himmiefan says:

This was just part of their contract.

  10. Eleonor says:

I love these spontaneous photos seriously I love how everything does not look so staged!

  11. Alexandria says:

No 1: I think J Lo always has a good manicure ready. No 2: I’ve heard of photogs hiding themselves to take such proposal photos so no big deal here and Photoshop is no surprise! No 3: I still don’t believe J Lo did not expect a proposal wahhahaha

Lastly, this is not going to be their last. She will do this again and again. Liz Taylor no. 2!

  12. Dani says:

Right, because everyone has a professional photographer following them around on vacation, with their hair and makeup perfectly done. BYE.

  13. RoyalBlue says:

This was as scripted as all of her other social media posts so she can’t fool me with that fake-surprised hands-up-by-the-face shot. They probably re-took it 50 times before they got the perfect one. When you are dropping hints of expectation of a proposal and going house hunting together it is not a surprise. She probably picked out the damn ring herself.

My husband proposed to me on a sandy beach too but I am side eyeing him now for not arranging that surprise photographer to capture the moment for posterity.

  14. Lara says:

Oh please. she is working overtime to put out the perfect relationship image after those cheating rumors

  15. Misah says:

Maybe JLo is polyamorous, but it’s not something she can say to the media? Also, even my hairdresser’s daughter had friends film her boyfriend’s proposal (yes she knew he was going to, yes she posted a story on her IG). JLo and all the stars are so used to their entourage, they don’t even notice. I mean, it could have been a bodyguard taking the pics! Their bodyguards follow them eveyrwhere, they just get cut out of the paparazzi pics.

This is all to say that I’m really not on board with the negativity. Yeah, yeah, celeBITCHY, but still… we can have a SMART conversation about, for ex, why a 50 yr old superstar would need to get married again, how society pressures us women to get married or else there’s something wrong with us, etc etc… but here in the comments I detect a lot of nastyness towards JLo, and it bother me. She ain’t no angel, but nor does she deserve the scathing tone. In this climate, I’m done with nastiness, especially gratuitous. Yes to strenghth and assertiveness, and being straightforward; but please, no to pettiness.

  16. Loca says:

Please girl ARod knew a year in advance. Jennifer Lopez is making herself sound pretty dumb right now. All this extra stuff is going to blow up in her face.

  17. Kebbie says:

Lol he’s wearing his World Series ring. What an unbelievable douchebag. His ring is more prominent in these photos than the engagement ring. He’s basically saying “Yes, she’s Jennifer Lopez, but I AM A-ROD!”

  18. FuefinaWG says:

Let’s not forget that this will be her 4th marriage! How many times can you promise to love, honor, and cherish, til death us do part? I guess we should have asked Liz Taylor.
