Lupita Nyong’o in spiked Balmain at the NYC ‘Us’ premiere: super-cute?

Lupita Nyong'o attends the premiere of 'Us'

Here are some photos of Lupita Nyong’o and the cast at the New York premiere of Us. I’m sort of surprised that all of the premieres thus far have been so low-key – this nothingburger NYC premiere comes after an attention-getting premiere at…SXSW, which still doesn’t qualify as “splashy” in my book. I wonder if they’re doing it so low-key on purpose, and if the business model for Us is similar to Get Out’s model – as in, spend very little on promotion and advertising and just let word of mouth do the trick.

Lupita wore Balmain – this looks like a shirtdress (a minidress) with a studded/spiked coat. Lupita didn’t wear her favorite colored contacts for this premiere, so she let the Balmain do the work on projecting horror. I hope she took the coat off before she sat down (or hugged anybody).

Obviously, the reviews are great for Us. Word-of-mouth campaigns rarely work if the film is terrible, and this is far from terrible. Us currently has 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. I had to stop reading Variety’s review because even just READING about the plot me upset too much.

I’m also including photos of Winston Duke, Jordan Peele and Chelsea Peretti (Jordan’s wife). I know CB has talked about Winston Duke a bit and I’m really into him too. He’s hot and TALL. I love tall men, especially tall men with good posture.

I like Lupita’s dress…she can wear almost anything and look great in it. I hope this movie does well. It certainly is getting good reviews. But unfortunately, I don’t do horror movies, so I’ll pass on seeing it.

I like the look Lupita was going for….looks great!!!

  3. Littlefishmom says:

If ANYONE can wear this, it’s her. She looks awesome!! Her skin is perfection. She’s just beautiful.

  4. Eliza says:

I appreciate her commitment to the horror theme in the promotion. All the stylists tend to make promotional tours so safe and boring lately; there’s nothing surprising or interesting.

I’m a total scaredy-cat but I kind of want to see what this team came up with. Especially with a the great reviews. Maybe a matinee? And an ice cream afterwards to take the fear out of me.

  5. Megan says:

Lupita has a face that could launch 1,000 ships.

  6. Booradley says:

I love her so much, she has so much fun with clothing. It just radiates off her.

  7. Kimmy says:

    She is ridiculously gorgeous.

I also am scared to see this, but I love everyone involved. . I dont even like the previews!!!

I love everyone involved and love that Jordan Peele is making more movies…but I know the commercial the first second it comes on and I always have to change it. So I hope everyone else goes to see it, but I will skip it.

    Ouch.

  9. Veronica says:

Oh, I forgot Peele and Peretti were married! Man, they must be a fun couple to hang around. I like Peretti’s outfit, just wish it was better tailored. (And who did her brows??)

Lupita Nyong’o is just stunning as usual. I think I would’ve gone with different makeup, though. I get the intent of the pop of color, but I would’ve preferred some eyeliner.

The kids so cute! Look at the velvet suit on the boy! The stylists clearly had fun putting this one together.

This movie though…my God, Jordan Peele, LET ME LIVE. I can barely sit through the trailers because they’re so well done. I can’t imagine how scary the film is.

I think the family picture is just beautiful, of the rest of the family. BUT, definitely a no on Lupita’s outfit. The length seems off, the shoes look wrong with it, the oddly shaped and emphasized shoulders, and that belt with the high necked shirt, all of it, dear Lord, no.

So, don’t care for it on her and it absolutely strikes a false note in the picture with the children.

Winston Duke is so handsome, but he does look pained in these pics.

  11. Dessi says:

Ugh…. That Variety review has such a gross comparison… “Americans spend so much time worrying about “the other” — demonizing immigrants, unfamiliar races, or the all-powerful 1%….”

One of those three is not like the other but kudos for the faux equivalence.

Not to mention that it isn’t very well written either.

    • Canber says:

Honestly? Compared to other countries, Americans don’t have much class anxiety. It’s changing, but a lot of Americans still swallow the Horatio Alger myth.

      • Dessi says:

I wasn’t thinking about class anxiety… But the idea that the 1% is otherized and demonized is preposterous. Criticisim of the 1% does not constitute demonization. Hell, plenty of Americans probably think they can become of the higher echelons. So the comparison is tone-deaf at best.

  12. smee says:

She should have brought Pinhead from Hellraiser as date!

  13. Canber says:

It’s rare, but I don’l like Lupita’s look that much. Mostly the make up.

Can’t wait to see this movie.

  14. Goldengirlslover34 says:

Literally had a nightmare about this movie two days ago that kept me up for half an hour after. Tried to wake up my husband for comfort but he just rolled over. Told him that both him and Lupita failed me and I never thought I would say that. I can’t watch this movie. Too scared! 😫😰

Chelsea Peretti is Jordan Peele’s wife??!!
