Thandie Newton on what every woman should try at least once: a good vibrator

Marie Claire has three covers this month for their TV issue. They feature Elisabeth Moss, Sandra Oh and Thandie Newton, who of course stars in Westworld. Season three is in the works but there’s no word yet on when it will premiere. Thandie was candid in her interview, which is how she always is. She’s quite matter-of-fact and I love that about her. Also the Marie Claire people sent us the photos and she’s absolutely beautiful and styled so naturally. The best part of the online feature was the accompanying video, where they had her pop balloons filled with confetti to get to questions inside each. She loved doing it, as did Sandra and Elisabeth, and they all answered the same questions. That looks like a fun party game, to have people pop balloons with little questions or tasks inside. I’m including part of Thandie’s video in her quotes below as well her interview.

On speaking out about abuse she’d suffered in the industry before MeToo
I was very aware of the climate of sexual abuse that was going on around me, so I became the person you didn’t want to hire because I would call it out. In retrospect, I can see many instances where not only would I not be employed, but other actors and actresses would not necessarily want to be associated with me.

On HBO giving pay equity to the women on Westworld
I was initially really shocked because it was such a leap from what we’d been paid before. For years, it hadn’t even occurred to me to question it.

On her daughter, Nico, starring in Dumbo
She’s amazing in it. My husband and I were like, ‘What the hell, when did she learn that?!’ Because she’s only seen one of my films, and it was Norbit, for God’s sake.

Nico is not at all naive. The idea of her being paid less than a male costar? I’d like to see them try and get away with that.

Favorite couch snack?
Corn chips. I really like pomegranate seeds. I like jelly beans. I eat them with my four-year-old.

What should every woman try at least once in her life?
A good vibrator I would say. You know. Giving yourself pleasure. I’m sure that’s just what everybody would do anyway.

What is the best gift you’ve received
Without a doubt it would be my husband’s sperm for my three children. And it is a gift.

[From Marie Claire]

I watched the other videos from Elisabeth and Sandra and neither of them said “vibrator” on what women should try. I like that Thandie’s mind immediately went there. Although I doubt I would have come up with that answer, I do agree with her and I also love jelly beans. My couch snack is jelly beans and popcorn, but not at the same time. It’s either a sweet night or a savory night, you know?

Here’s Thandie’s interview

Co-sign about the vibrator. Mine lives in my “bed bag”, a small pouch that holds my chapstick, ear plugs, a sleep mask, etc.
My vibrator is very utilitarian and cute. It’s purple and resembles a small dolphin lol.
I do NOT like vibrators that look like dicks. It weirds me out. Nothing with veins, etc. *shivers*…only discrete pocket rockets for this old lady. (sorry, TMI)

On a completely different note, Thandie is an absolutely STUNNING woman. Her husb is hot, too.

    • FredsMother says:

I feel you. Every woman should have such a selfcare pouch at the bottom of her purse or in her nightstand. Just need to add a Gua Sha Facial Roller.

    • ShockandAwwww says:

FunFactory? Mine looks like a caterpiller! It is so cute. I want their entire catalog of products. They are incredible, beautiful, cute, state of the art. They have strapless sharable toys, which are just the coolest thing ever.

  2. Lady Keller says:

Normally I hate when women tell other women what to do or how to live their lives. But in this instance I think she might be on to something.

    • Sash says:

It’s self care! We woman should be more open about our care, especially when it comes to sex. Kick that taboo out the window, right?

  3. Nicegirl says:

    This is so funny

  4. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I’m not as liberated lol. Or perhaps (this is way TMI) my peaks are acquired at a different location heh heh.

  5. ZGB says:

She’s so beautiful. I like her comments about her daughter and on pay inequality

    • SK says:

She is STUNNING! There’s something very Audrey Hepburn-esque about her. The big beautiful eyes, the impeccable bone structure, the long neck, the elegant carriage… She is honestly just mesmerising.

And now I understand why the little girl in Dumbo is so gorgeous! The big eyes and beautiful bone structure and excellent posture are all mini-Thandie. I had no idea that was her daughter! Although now I’ve seen her IMDB I think she looks better with her natural curls.

I’ve always appreciated how forthright and honest Thandie is. She really was ahead of the curve when she spoke out about her harassment. She should be a much bigger star than she is. She’s stunning and incredibly talented. She has definitely been punished for being a strong WOC who won’t be silenced.

I too like what she said about pay equality. And her comments about the vibrators are great. Love her!

  6. Venus says:

Thandie Newton looks so much like Diane von Furstenberg to me! The same shaped face, those amazing cheekbones, and all that curly hair. Stunning.

  7. elimaeby says:

I think she is one of the most beautiful women on earth. I could look at her face for hours.

  8. Jess says:

She’s stunning, I just love everything about her, her self confidence especially! I can’t wait to see Dumbo, I already cried at the preview, lol.

I agree with the vibrator, I got my first one when I was pregnant and single 12 years ago(hello pregnancy horny hormones) and never looked back! The woman who owns one of the sex toy stores here is so sweet and knowledgeable, I love going in there and just talking to her, she makes me feel comfortable right away.

  9. leskat says:

Am I the only woman who hates vibrators? I’ve had 4 different ones over the years and none of them have done anything but numb me to death before I get anywhere good. I’ve tried different speeds, different movements, indirect stimulation and nothing works. I weep for all the attempts I made my poor innocent ladybits go through lol

    • TMI or just enough? says:

Have you tried one that’s strictly for the ah… um, bean? (not sure I’m allowed to say the c-word) I’ve never had a classic vibrator do anything for me, but the Sona Cruise from Lelo has been a game changer. Maybe a “sonic” pulse option would be a good try?

      • Jess says:

Is clitoris a bad word? Lol, better not be! But yes I agree, sometimes all I need is clitoral stimulation and can go without anything else!

      • Isa says:

For me, they’re okay. So far none of the ones I’ve tried has compared to my husband.

    • Jen says:

My girlfriend has always hated vibrators too. Same issue, they don’t work on her and just make her numb. We did a little research and found that the womanizer works wonders for her (I love it too). I would suggest giving that a try!

  10. HK9 says:

Yesssss. Sound piece of advice. 🙂 My friend is blue, and waterproof.

  11. Léna says:

After being a victim of rape 5 years ago and feeling like I couldn’t ever have an orgasm for 4 years, a vibrator made me feel alive.

True story, I cried after it gave me an orgasm for the first time. It really helped me heal.
    co-sign.

    • SpilldatT says:

@Léna I’m sorry to hear this. Rape, sexual abuse can & does warp our ideas of healthy sexual needs.

      (hugs)

I’m glad that you found something that gave you joy back on a physical level.

  12. V says:

Hahaha yes! Co-sign 100%. Hey Celebitchy, maybe this is inspo for an affiliate post?
    😉

  13. Nikki says:

If you haven’t seen Grace and Frankie, give it a try. The episode they told their families they were going into business making vibrators for older women with arthritic fingers was hilarious!

  14. asdfa says:

I WORSHIP her. also, she is 100% right.

  15. JoanCallamezzorunsthistown says:

In this picture Thandie looks like Diana Ross and Susan Serandon’s love child.

  16. Malachite says:

I would love Thandie’s recs for which vibes she likes best. I just got a new one and it’s okay, but I am not sold on it.

  17. whatAcoincidence says:

I’ve been looking to buy one this week. So weird this article pops up. My hubby is deployed for the next year and suggested I get one. Hard to choose one with all the choices.

  18. Dizzy says:

A few years ago I was going out with a total jerk. He took me to sex shop to buy a vibrator, my first one. Big mistake on his part, I fell in love with vibrator and dumped his ass.
