Zachary Levi on if he’s single: I’m ‘in this good healthy moment of being with me’

Shazam Funfair Launch
Zachary Levi stars in Shazam, which I saw over the weekend. It’s a goofy superhero movie that’s surprisingly delightful. It uses so many tropes and obvious tug-the-heartstrings moments but it somehow works. You root for the kids who are the soul of the film. Zachary plays a superhero who is a 15 year-old boy in an adult man’s body. I tried to remember where I know him and it’s from Alvin and the Chipmunks The Squeakquel! He’s 38, which is surprising to me as I assumed he was in his mid 40s. That’s not a dig really it’s just that he’s got one of those super smooth faces that looks a bit Botoxed. Anyway he was on Access Live this week. When they asked him if he’s seeing anyone he had such a great answer. It sounded genuine like he meant it and lives his life like this. Kit Hoover also said she ran into him singing karaoke in a bar and that he was killing it.

Is there a lady in your life?
I’ve been in this good healthy moment of being with me. Loving myself, working on myself, getting stronger and healthier and waiting for that right woman to enter my life. I don’t know where she is but I’m trusting that that’s all going to time out the way it’s supposed to.

Have you ever [used] a dating app?
There is an app that I have used. We live in a different world now. [Is technology] helping or hindering our lives? I think it’s a little bit of both. There is something democratic about being on the right app for you. It gives everybody an opportunity to look and say ‘hey I’m into you.’ Then you know there’s a mutual attraction there.

I love what you said about taking this time to be with yourself
I think mental health is the most important thing we can be talking about right now. I’m a huge proponent of therapy and I have literally saved my own life through that with the help and love of my friends and family. But the professionals have given me tools. Learning about self love and self care. If we can know ourselves and love ourselves as deeply as possible then we can go and know and love others so much more deeply.

Doing that work to heal my heart laid the foundation for me to be able to be in this spot right now. I’m so grateful.

[From Access]

His answers were so great! I really enjoyed this interview. Access host Scott Evans noted that we often hear these type of comments from women and that it’s nice to hear a man talk about mental health and how important and empowering that is. It didn’t sound like a put on at all. I’m a fan! Also Shazam was top at the box office this last week. It’s a great little film and worth seeing. I’m sure it will get a sequel in a year or two.

Update: Thanks to those of you who pointed out that Zachary was married briefly, to Canadian actress Missy Peregrym, from about June to December, 2014 when they separated. They officially divorced in 2015.

Here’s Zachary’s interview!

    😍😍😍😍

    • elimaeby says:

Thank you! I knew he looked familiar, but I couldn’t remember from what. Thanks for saving me the trip to IMDB.

For some reason, I always thought he was gay? I don’t know why. I was surprised to hear he’s into women.

      • Meredith says:

Elimaeby, you might be thinking of Lee Pace. I always get the two of them confused.

    • Celebitchy says:

I need to watch that now

    • Miss M says:

      Chuck was great!!!

    • detritus says:

First few seasons are so good. Levi is also super religious, or was, which I imagine limits the field a bit in Hollywood.

  2. Vanessa says:

Chuck forever. I remember seeing he got married a long while ago, and then never heard another thing about it. I love him as an actor and outspoken geek, and he sounds like he’s in a good place. That makes me happy.

    • Paleokifaru says:

That involved a pretty quick divorce. I remember thinking it didn’t look super great for him since it seemed right on the heels of him talking quite a bit about his Christianity. He already had a fairly low profile, despite headlining a show (Chuck is one of my faves) but after that it felt like he put his head down a bit further. From this interview, it sounds like maybe he was taking the time to work on himself. Never a bad thing to figure out where you were or weren’t contributing to a relationship, especially if you want a healthy and lasting one in the future. I’ve always really liked him and liked that he’s not so out there in your face and tries to be a positive role model.

  3. Sarah says:

He and his ex-wife honeymooned at the same time/hotel as my husband and me. Too bad it didn’t work out. Saw him on Broadway a couple of years ago and he was excellent. Sorry this is kind of a pointless comment.

    • Jb says:

Not pointless! I was wondering if the article would mention his quick marriage and divorce..I believe it was to missy Peregrym, a Canadian actress. They both seem like nice ppl so agreed it didn’t work out.

      • Incredulous says:

Zachary has a marked habit of cheating, a very marked habit.

      • Jb says:

@incredulous really? Ugh my fault for thinking the best of ppl. Well then good for her!

      • Paleokifaru says:

@Incredulous I never see much gossip around him. Where is the cheating rumor or rumors from? His quicky marriage and divorce is the only relationship I’ve heard about.

      • Incredulous says:

Eh, the cheating stuff is from… I want to say an interview with his ex-wife and a couple of hint hint articles I’ve read. Also, be nice to the PAs on set, they talk and word gets around. Especially when you won’t stop talking about Jeezus to everyone while rampantly cheating on your wife on set/location. That tends to piss people off. Like those aforementioned PAs.

    • Celebitchy says:

      I should update with that!

      • Xi Tang says:

Yup a known cheater BUT a devout christian πŸ™. He also believes in reverse racism. God bless.

  4. tealily says:

I liked him in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but I’ve never seen him in anything else. This makes me want to watch more!

    • lucy2 says:

I have a general dislike for him, I don’t really know why, but I did like him on Maisel.
Kudos for him discussing mental health though.

    • Alissa says:

I knew who he was but never watched him in anything until Maisel. and now I’m just amazed at how hot I think he is!!

      • SM says:

@Alissa, me too. It was great how they even made fun of his height and looks on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I hope he is back next season.

      • tealily says:

Yeah, I vaguely remember Chuck existing, but wasn’t at all struck by Zachary as a looker at that time!

  5. Valiantly Varnished says:

Wow he and I are the same age and I feel EXACTLY the same way about meeting someone. I recently started therapy and that is really what I am focusing on: becoming the best version of myself. And if a partner comes into my life at some point that would be awesome. But I do not want my own sense if happiness and worth to be based on that. I saw Shazam this weekend too and while I found his character annoying (because most 14 year old boys ARE annoying) I thought it was a cute film. Zachary has been in so much stuff – he was in the second and third Thors (with blonde hair!), the Alvin and the Chipmunks films – which I loved with my whole heart (I was BIG Alvin fan as a kid) and the NBC show Chuck. As well as the last season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (she should have married him he was perfect).
I also know he was briefly married to actress Missy Peregrym so I think that is another reason why he feels so cautious about relationships.

  6. Mia4s says:

    Flynn Rider!!! 😁

Shazam was absolutely charming (*small voice* I confess I enjoyed it more than Captain Marvel. Felt fresher).

  7. deezee says:

    Love him!

I’ve seen him in Chuck (obvs), each Broadway show he has been in, and watched all the Nerd HQ panels they used to do from Comic Con livestreamed.

Took my daughter to see Shazam this weekend and it was good and she really enjoyed it.

  8. Nicegirl says:

We also saw Shazam this weekend and had a great time. loved this actors words on mental health, I also heard him talking about it on the view. Good on you Zachary Levi.

  9. TheOtherOne says:

He also played the villain, Thin White Duke, in Psych: The Movie. I love Psych and loved him in that role.

  10. Jb says:

Just started following him on Instagram but followed his work and knew of him since Chuck. He seems to be getting hotter as he ages.

  11. Moxie Remon says:

Hard pass, by his old words, he seems sexist.

  12. Michael says:

Chuck is one of my favorite shows of all time. Season 2 is one of the best seasons of television ever. Shazam is definetly in his wheelhouse as its basically just buff chuck. Unfortunately zachary is pretty much insufferable his unqualified interview with anna faris was so awful.

    • Kebbie says:

Insufferable how? I loved him in Chuck, but he kind of reminds me of Chris Pratt in interviews (who I loved in Parks and Rec, now not so much.) I guess I’m not into guys/people who talk about religion a lot. It seems disingenuous if you have to constantly tell people how much you love Jesus or whatever.

  13. Oliviajoy1995 says:

He was also on a show years ago before Chuck called Less Than Perfect that was really funny. He was especially hilarious on it.
