Dresses and skirts to fashionably transition into summer

Amazon_MaxiDress
As I always mention, I shop at the local Goodwill and get most of my clothing from there. If you have a thrift or consignment stores near you check them out! You do have to be the type of person who likes sifting through stuff, but you can find some great pieces. I’m lucky to live in a town that has good secondhand options, and I do supplement with purchases from Amazon and TJ Maxx. I try not to buy retail as some of the prices shock me. I love cute dresses as they make you look polished and put together with less effort. Yesterday I wore a denim skirt with a chiffon sleeveless floral top. Summer is the best for putting together outfits and I’m really looking forward to it.

A versatile, affordable pencil dress with a tie belt
Amazon_CutePencilDress
This fun pencil dress comes in both 3/4 and cap sleeve versions and 24 different solid colors, all under $25. It’s got over 1,000 reviews and a 3.9 star rating. Women call it “cute,” “simple,” “great for the price” and “slimming.” Some warn that it runs small and is more fitted than in the photo.

A light, feminine floral dress which is wash and wear
Amazon_CrinkleFloralDress
This flowy, button-front dress is the number three best-seller in women’s plus-sized dresses and comes in 7 different prints and colors and sizes 14 plus to 34 W. It’s said to be “very light and breezy,” “comfortable,” with a “great fit.” One reviewer says it can be see through so you’ll want to wear a slip with it.

A comfortable boho dress in so many gorgeous prints
Amazon_BohoDress
This airy dress comes in sizes x-small to xx-large and 21 different color and print options. Reviewers say they get compliments whenever they wear this dress. They say it “has a cute pattern and a super forgiving fit” with “loose and flattering” sleeves and that you can even pair it with leggings. There are a lot of pictures of women rocking this dress too. Here’s a link to a maxi version of this dress with 3/4 length sleeves which is also highly-rated. (That’s the dress at the top of this post!)

A maxi dress with pockets
Amazon_MaxiDressTropical
I love maxi dresses as they’re so comfortable and you don’t feel self conscious in them like shorter dresses. This v-neck short sleeve dress comes in sizes small to xxx-large and in 20(!) different prints, most floral with a couple tropical. It looks lovely and buyers confirm that, saying “it has the perfect flow and is made from an extremely comfortable material” and is “completely flattering” with “vibrant colors.” You may want to size up as it’s said to run small.

A stretch denim skirt that women love
Amazon_DenimSkirt
This stretch denim skirt comes in 19 different washes and two popular styles, one that’s a fitted pencil version and another short with buttons down the front. It’s also in sizes 4 to 24 plus! I have larger hips and have problems wearing some skirts because they’re too wide at the waist. Stretch skirts fit me nicely so I’m interested in this. People rave about this, calling it “perfect, not skin tight, but fitted enough to have the true pencil skirt shape,” and like your favorite broken in denim jeans.” It is said to run true to size.

A bodycon pencil dress for the office or a nice out
Amazon_Windowpanepencildress
This dress comes in sizes large to xxx-large and in four windowpane prints and two gingham prints. Women call it a “classy and comfortable dress” that’s “perfect for work” however it’s said to run big. Here’s a link to the same dress in sizes x-small to x-large.

A novelty miniskirt with so many whimsical prints
Amazon_SlothSkirt
I chose this skirt because of the crazy fun prints and its legitimate reviews. This skirt comes in dinosaur, avocado, flamingo, sloth and Halloween prints. It’s available in small to xx-large. Reviewers say this is “super soft silky material” which is “good and stretchy” and “so cute.” Check the photos to see just how short this is, however some women say it goes to the knee so YRMV. I own skirts this short and in the summer I just wear booty shorts under them. They’re also great to wear with tights when it’s cooler as you don’t have to worry as much.

A gorgeous pleated metallic skirt
amazon_metallicskirt
I have this skirt in copper! I did order a size up as I read it ran small and am glad I did. My size is usually loose on me in skirts but a size up fits just right. There’s a photo somewhere of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wearing a similar skirt with a silky lingerie top with spaghetti straps. I have a top just like that too and one day I’ll be brave enough to wear those two things together. As is I’ve only worn this with sweaters. It looks much more expensive than it is at just $24. This also comes in silver (I want that too) and a striking emerald green. People call this skirt “beautiful” with “luxurious fabric” and say they receive compliments on it. It does stick to your legs sometimes, as this type of fabric is prone to do.

Oh and we’re doing another clothing post on Tuesday so please comment with any clothing you’ve bought from Amazon that you like, thanks!

I have that first dress! I actually haven’t worn it yet, lol, as its just getting warm enough around here to wear it without tights, but I like how it fits and the quality seems pretty good for the pricepoint (not great overall, but good for the price.)

    • Becks1 says:

Sorry, second dress! It’s the second one that I have.

    • Harryg says:

This is funny – I have that first (red) dress but in the print of the fourth dress, and I also have the second dress! I LOVE them and they are so comfortable.

Other Amazon recs (I buy a lot of clothes from Amazon, lol). Let me know if the links don’t work.

I just got this, haven’t worn it yet, but its cute on and fairly comfortable”

I really like this, its really comfortable. The pleats hide my belly, ha. Plus, pockets! Downside is that you cant wear a regular bra with it.

This is really cute! I love how it kind of has a vintage look to it. It is kind of low cut for me, but I can wear a cami under it and its fine.

And finally, these are great – good cross between leggings and jeans, pretty comfortable. I’m 5’7″ and I got them in the long and I think that was the right call.

I have this dress in a coffee brown color and I love it. I wear it with leggings or tights and boots in winter and dress it up with a bold necklace or scarf. Now that it’s warmer, I’m going to order one in a brighter color to wear with sandals and a cardigan. It’s soft, washes well with no pilling thus far, and it’s comfy.

I’ve had A TON of luck with ThredUp for online consignment shopping. Because off the rack can be difficult with my body I tend to stick to brands whose fit and sizing I already know, but I’ve gotten great stuff that looks brand new.

GIRL I HAVE SO MANY! Currently obsessed with:
Casual pleated dress with pockets, comes sleeveless and short sleeved in a variety of solid colors AUSELILY Women’s Short Sleeve… https://amzn.to/2IX4xS6
Capri pants with deep pockets suitable for the office, comes in multiple solid colors LEE Women’s Modern Series Midrise… https://amzn.to/2GFauRT
Short sleeved sweater to throw over sleeveless shirts/dresses, comes with deep pockets in multiple colors Womens Cardigans Short Sleeve… https://amzn.to/2ZyaHhh
I’m short and round and I walk a lot, so I’m always looking for office appropriate stuff with pockets that suits my body type. With those three you can’t go wrong!

    • Becks1 says:

@LP what is the length like that on that pleated dress? I’ve been eyeing it up, and I really like it, but wanted to get a feel for how long it actually is. I’m 5’7″ like I said above, but I do have longer legs, so I feel like things look short on me and I don’t really like short skirts anymore.

      • LP says:

I’m 5’3” and the xlarge hits my knees- I wear a 16/18 in most clothes and also have short legs! Returns are free I think, definitely if you’re Prime. Good luck!

    • Lindy says:

Tell me more about those Capri pants pretty please! I’m short and have a booty so I have a hard time with pants in general. Are they comfy? Is there a gap at the waist?

      • LP says:

They’re ‘trouser’ material, if that makes sense, thicker and stiffer than leggings and different from denim. They’re comfy without a big waist gap (I’m apple shaped tho), pull-on with deep pockets. I’m 5’3”, usually a 16/18, and the xlarge hits me about an inch and a half below my knee. They’re perfect for going to the office on hot days!

So I have invested heavily in the BuzzFeed recommended maxi dress with pockets but also like a giant t-shirt style as a size 16, 5’7″, woman, to great comfort and success. The Verdusa dress has a closed back and the Grecerelle has an open back but not so much you can’t easily wear a regular bra. Both are soft, non-transparent, and very comfortable for all day office wear.

I’m getting that avocado skirt ASAP! I love these segments! I pick out so much good stuff.

  8. Scarlet Vixen says:

I don’t order clothes online too often (I either am super bad at knowing what will fit me well or I have a body type where I just have to try stuff on), so I don’t really have any recommendations to share. But, I am here to THANK all the women who are willing to share their sizes/measurements in their reviews! You ladies are my heroes! I’m almost 5’10” with an athletic build–but also bigger boobs, so it’s SO helpful when women say how tall they are, or what size they wear and/or ordered. Thankyou!!

    • Harryg says:

Agree with you, it’s so helpful, I’m always grateful to see the shoppers’ sizes mentioned.

  9. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

That first short sleeved dress is adorable! The Mr. gave me a beautiful sapphire pendant and earrings set for my birthday, and I”m ordering this in dark blue to wear with them to my twins’ graduation next month! Yay!!

  10. Cherie says:

I’m finding it harder to shop online for dresses, so many of the shops are pop ups from China that have horrible quality and sizing, take forever to arrive and impossible to return. I’ve started checking reviews but a lot of them are on Amazon. Even Red Dress started amazing and has gone to trash.

    • KidV says:

Yep. I refuse to buy clothes from Amazon because of that reason. And I refuse to support China’s stealing others’ designs, products, etc and flooding the market with their cheap knockoffs. Amazon should just merge with Alibaba and be done with it.

  11. antipodean says:

Dammit CB, everytime I see these posts I swear I am going to resist clicking, then I do, and I end up buying something I didn’t know I would love. I generally hate shopping, so these posts are fabulous. Everything I have bought from here has been great, especially as they have been tried and tested by others. It’s like I have my own personal shopper! I have just bought the stretch denim skirt, and am looking forward to seeing if it is good. I have trouble with the waist hip ratio for skirts. The one click ordering is just too easy! From a grateful shop-o-phobe, thank you for dragging me into new stuff, CB.

  12. manda says:

That top dress is literally what I have been looking for for years now. Thank you so much! I need to look at amazon for clothes more often, but some of it seems so questionable

  13. JanetFerber says:

I like this feature very much and especially appreciate the curvy model. She is the bomb! Diversity is so sexy!

  14. Kat says:

I have wide feet and these are cute and comfy!

Love these panties- they feel sexy and don’t show but also give coverage that I appreciate.

I am so glad that other people shop at Goodwill and consignment shops too. I can’t bring myself to pay retail prices and the fast fashion industry is terrible for the environment, so secondhand shops are a great option. I also have luck buying from eBay when I already know my size and style in a certain brand (like Ann Taylor Julie pants and Old Navy sweetheart jeans). It’s especially great because for when I go up or down in weight because I can buy a size up or down without the torture of going to stores for hours trying to find something that fits (I can be hard to fit because I am curvy and petite but my legs are short proportioned to the rest of me).
