US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs Hearing

Sen. Kamala Harris CAME THROUGH at yesterday’s hearing with AG Bill Barr. She scared that man so badly that he refused to come talk to the House committee today. [Pajiba]

I like Kamala. She is definitely someone I’m rooting for. If she loses but Biden or Sanders win the nomination, I think he would be wise to make her VP. Just my humble Canadian-living-in-America opinion. It makes me sad women are so marginalized in American politics.

    • Lightpurple says:

      Or Attorney General

    • Kate says:

I like Kamala and Elizabeth Warren. It’s too bad our press is so focused on Biden, Bernie, and Peter (notice a trend) when there are actually a lot of really interesting people running who also have a lot of experience.

      • Lucia says:

I like Bernie. He and I are very aligned in our beliefs but I also adore Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris. It’s anyone’s game, I just need whoever wins to take out that hateful Trump monster.

      • Lilly (with the double_L) says:

Yeah, that trend bugs me too, but we just have to keep our voices heard until the media has to pay attention. I rarely say things like this, that I read, but I wish we could make her president today. I also had to laugh, get questioned by an African-American woman once and you gotta cry and not go back. Barr sucks and he’s so weak.

      • Nievie says:

Elizabeth warren changes too much to fit populist opinions- I think she would be a weak president. Kamala or Bernie I feel have more integrity and resolve on their politics.

      • Betsy says:

@Lucia – you’re aligned with the Trump of the left, the self obsessed spoiler? The man is slogans printed on a balloon.
@Nievie – in what way has she changed too easily? She’s the lone candidate with specifics. She’s not blowing in the wind.

      • Lucia says:

Yes Betsy. In Canada, I support the New Democratic Party and consider myself a socialist. My ideals are aligned with Sanders, so I do support his policies but I know as a person there’s a lot to be desired.

    • Erinn says:

I love her. I can’t believe how freaking calm she stayed yesterday. I liked her before, but man. I’d love to see her as president, and if not, VP or AG.

      • KellyRyan says:

So many of us in CA love Kamala. We voted for her for both AG and the Senate. She was the first to speak out on same sex marriage rights, (14th amendment), performed the first SS marriage, and was dedicated to changes in legislation protecting Elders from abuse. Every dog has his day. Barr, the dog, never stopped squirming. Joy to watch her drill down.

    • 90sgirl says:

Kamala Harris was amazing. Barr was practically sputtering.

      Love Kamala.

    • Ref7 says:

A person running for President doesn’t select their Vice President after they are elected. They select a VP during the election, and run with them (also called their running mate). When a person is elected President, their pre-selected VP becomes Vice President.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Not to be picky, but Lucia said, “If she loses but Biden or Sanders win the nomination,”

…so I think they understand that the VP is chosen before the general election. Use of the phrase “win the nomination” makes it clear they were talking about the nomination for Democratic candidate that would be won, not the presidency.

whywhywhy is Mazie Horono being overlooked in these write-ups. The criticism seems to be her allout attack, instead of providing questions for barr to lie. She just flatout called him a liar and laid it all out that even the dotard-loving contingent might understand (although deny). Her gutting of Barr yesterday was epic and left him speechless, until little lindsey came to the rescue…. and even then Horono got in the last word.
And the absolute best part — it was two minority women who brought it to barr yesterday — showing the boyz how it’s done.

here’s the video — that i highly recommend:

    • Lilly (with the double_L) says:

Yes, we do seem to get one aspect from hearings/events like this. She is epic.

    • mycomment says:

      oy… Hirono

    • lucy2 says:

Her comments were great too, but in a different way. Hers was a well deserved character assault, and Kamala’s were more pointed questions to trip him up. Klobuchar also had a good line of questioning. All three women were great yesterday, and fought for the truth.

    • FluffyPrincess says:

I mentioned Hirono yesterday — She was on FIRE, and poor Lindsay Graham nearly had to fan himself he was so “outraged.” LOL – Suck it Graham, you weasely weasel you!

Here she goes all in on him: “The American people know that you are no different from Rudy Giuliani or Kellyanne Conway or any of the other people who sacrificed their once decent reputation for the grifter and liar who sits in the Oval Office,” Hirono told the AG.

      and

“Being attorney general of the United States is a scared trust,” she went on. “You have betrayed that trust, America deserves better. You should resign.”

Fox and Friends had the “sads” this morning because she was just so…omg! So Disrespectful!! Oh Noes! She was a meany!!

      • Milkweed says:

Harris/Hirono 2020! I liked watching Booker’s face when Harris questioned Barr.

      • Giddy says:

Mazie was the best kind of pit bull and I loved it. The women weren’t playing around. Barr looked like a pouty idiot when he refused to answer Kamala, and she was so calm and masterful. If Kamala doesn’t get the top of the ticket I’d love to see her as AG, and Warren as Sec’y of Treasury or head of the Fed.

    • Angel says:

I clapped when she was done! I love Mazie!

  3. Digital Unicorn says:

I watched some of the hearing yesterday and he was unprepared, it seemed he thought he could come in and the Republican Senators would protect him, and they did but I don’t think he was expecting quite the Dems to come at him they way they did. He was VERY VERY uncomfortable with their line of questioning and again couldn’t and wouldn’t answer them. Maisie was legend, I LOVED her put down of Graham who seemed to be getting rather aroused with his little gavel thumping.

I don’t think he ever intended to turn up to the hearing with Congress, nor does he ever intend to hand over the evidence supporting Mueller reports, not that he actually read it.

Harris basically got him to admit that he allowed a person who is also a witness in the investigation pass judgement on it. They need to fire him before he uses his position to bury the investigations by the SDNY cause we know he will stop them.

I wonder what Donny and Putin have promised him in return for throwing himself onto his sword this way. He has to be getting something massive in return.

    • holly hobby says:

I watched some of the Harris questioning online. It is really interesting that he won’t look at her when she’s asking him a question. He kept looking off to the side. A hallmark of a liar. Won’t even make eye contact. He should be impeached.

I read on Twitter some attorney filed a complaint with the DC bar in hopes of getting him disbarred. Now that would automatically make him lose his job for if you don’t have a license, how can you be AG?

I never thought the day that Jeff Sessions operates on a bigger code of honor than these clowns.

      • Lala11_7 says:

        Make NO mistake…

Jeff Sessions has NO code of honor…NONE…..He did what he did so he could stay in his position long enough to wreck HAVOC on the Black and Brown people that he and his putrid ilk ALWAYS despised…

        He succeeded…brilliantly

      • Jerusha says:

It’s a topsy turvy world when Alabama’s own little popinjay racist looks marginally better than someone else.

      • The Recluse says:

Actually, I think that was where Harris was sitting. Their area was curved.

      • (THE OG)@Jan90067 says:

Here is a link to a PDF to send to the Virginia Bar re: Impeach Barr. I printed mine out, and mailed it off today. I sent it to everyone I know, as well as Tweeted it out::

Send it out to all you know, too. The more pressure we keep up, the more chance of things changing/happening!

    • lucy2 says:

There’s a post going around FB that links him to some Russian money, but it’s FB so take it with a grain of salt.
He strikes me as the type of guy who has been held accountable, and was wholly unprepared for their questions. He was really floundering on a lot of the questions, and lied a lot.

      • anon says:

Barr’s heavily connected to Russian firms his previous employer represents, as are his daughter and son-in-law. He has a bank account on Deutsche, as it seems to be part of the requirements to work for the Trump Adm. He’s connected to Alfa Bank too…

    • Tiffany :) says:

I loved that she got him to admit that he made a recommendation not to indict, but he didn’t read the evidence first.

  4. C-Shell says:

Kamala Harris is awesome and my favorite interrogator in the US Congress. Full stop.

  5. Sean says:

Yes, Harris got Barr to admit he didn’t review all of Mueller’s evidence before publishing his summary. And he skipped out on the House Committee hearing today. Anyone getting impeached or otherwise held accountable?

  6. Hmmm says:

    💗 Kamala. She’s my choice.

Janelle should divorce after her husband SHOT THEIR FAMILY DOG. HE IS SICK!! Can’t he be arrested for shooting the dog for animal cruelty? If she doesn’t divorce him MTV needs to fire her.

    • Harryg says:

He needs to be arrested and he needs to go to jail and I loathe him more than I have words. I also loathe the whole show of teen moms, moronic rednecks.

    • Lucia says:

If he can do that to her dog, what will he do when she or their kids go against him?

  7. Harryg says:

Kamala for president. Beto or Warren vice.

  8. smee says:

Republicans always want prosecutors to be tough…they should love her for asking the hard questions 😉

  9. StellainNH says:

Kamala is a lioness on the hunt. She is so powerful with her line of questioning.

  10. minx says:

    Love Kamala.

  11. Sharon Lea says:

Horono and Harris were amazing. Anyone else think of Arya defeating the Night King during their parts? ha I loved 2 women slicing through the drone of back and forth. Honorable Mention goes to Blumenthal to get Barr to admit he knew he had gone against Mueller when he said he was sent a ‘snitty’ letter. He is in deep trouble, I hope he loses his job and bar license.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes and then he dropped that there was a conference call about the letter afterwards (then refused to give them the notes saying ‘why should he’) – I like to think by that point he knew he was in the deepest sh!t and decided he was going to take others with him. He got away with covering for a President once and thought he could do it again, things have changed since the last time he did it. His arrogance was on full display and it bit him in the ass.

      • Sharon Lea says:

Exactly, he was worn down and let too much go by then. The conference call admission was another big reveal! But then he refused to give over the notes?! The administration is so brazen, but we learned so much yesterday and there is no going back now! Can’t wait for Mueller to testify!

  12. Lila says:

He shot her dog and she’s THINKING about divorce?

In her situation, I wouldn’t have needed to go through divorce proceedings…but that’s cuz I would have murdered the dude.

    • Juliette says:

He not only shot it, he beat it to death first in front of the children. Absolutely horrible. She needs to take those children and run. He is not right in the head and they are all in danger. That poor puppy.

  13. Audrey says:

I love it!!! She sliced and diced him!

  14. Az says:

I read somewhere the GOP at one point wanted to get rid of Pence and run a Trump/Barr ticket because lol Barr is like Dick Cheney. Look, I have no love for Cheney but stupid he is not. Barr on the other hand… Although I guess anyone looks smart next to Trump!

  15. Betsy says:

Warren – Harris – Klobuchar. In any order or combination.

  16. BPM says:

The lack of discussion about the candidates’ policies on this site indicates that most of you are supporting people for superficial reasons. Check out their policies and voting records.

  17. It's A Dry Heave says:

If we just let Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, etc wrangle the “sausage fest” in Washington, maybe Americans could stop feeling embarrassed on the world stage.

PS…. Why does Barr remind me of Jabba The Hut?

  18. Liz says:

    Epic? More like embarrassing.

  19. A says:

Why would he “read”the report when he conducted the investigation?? Your commentary is stupid

  20. Skipper says:

That was cool watching Kamala with her Prosecutor self in action.
I also was trying to watch Cory Booker who was clearly enjoying her performance too.
Looks like the Presidential Polls for 2020 are all showing Biden massively in the lead.
I myself prefer Harris and not just because she is a brilliant Prosecutor.
