The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ trailer is full of Tom Cruise looking like a midlife crisis

maverick

I have stayed in my little cave about the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. It wasn’t anything I wanted or was particularly interested in, so I didn’t seek out much information about it beyond “Miles Teller is in it” and “planes.” Well, the first trailer is here and… wow, this is A LOT of Tom Cruise. And it feels especially weird for them to base a sequel on the idea that not much has changed for Cruise’s Maverick. He’s still a “hot shot” pilot/captain, he still rides a motorcycle, he’s still reckless AF, he’s still squinty and whatever. The OG Top Gun read as “macho toxic bros being toxic.” The sequel reads as “white dude allowed to have extended midlife crisis on the military’s dime.” Here’s the trailer, it’s a whole lotta CRUISE.

Granted, maybe future trailers will show more of the plot, but this just seems like an extended ad for Navy pilot recruitment. The first Top Gun was like that too – after the movie, there was a spike in interest in Navy pilot schools and increased enrollment. This film also features Ed Harris (featured quite prominently in the trailer), Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly and… Val Kilmer. Can someone please tell me if Connelly is playing Maverick’s new girlfriend? Because… yikes, is Jennifer poor or something? And poor Miles, he’s barely in this trailer. Let’s hope he has significant screen time.

It doesn’t look good…Who still watches Tom Cruise movies anyhow?

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Its a Tom Cruise movie about Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise.

      • Pineapple says:

Um, Digital Unicorn … this is so great commenting should now be closed. XO

      • Carol says:

@DigitalUnicorn – you hit it on the nose! LOL!

I also hated the original Top Gun movie

      • Sally says:

I still have a hard time liking Tom Cruise because of the way he treats his child, Suri. Sad.Sad.

      • Margsy says:

I put a comment further down but wanted to make the point:

I grew up in an aviation family surrounded by pilots (father and brothers) and knew some of the pilots that flew in the first movie, and it was a really big deal. I have now worked in aviation myself for over twenty years (formerly as a pilot too).

It cannot be understated that there are many wonderful flying scenes in these movies, it’s a lot more than just a Tom Cruise movie. Massive shout out to the amazing pilots actually pulling off these stunts! We give so much credit to people from all walks of life – but the pilots that do this stuff for real are amazing and I love that a film like this can showcase that.

With a global crisis of pilot and all aviation skills (engineering and air traffic control etc.) shortage looming on the horizon and with less than 6% of global pilots female (yes – that’s correct), any film that encourages people to become aviators and especially female pilots is fantastic. How often do we see female pilots or engineers in the mainstream media or films? Why can’t we focus on some of that?

As an aviatrix with a deep love of aviation and admiration for what these guys can do, I cannot wait to see it!

      International box office.

      • Starkiller says:

I can absolutely assure you that no one outside of the US gives a flying fart about Tom Cruise, so no, that’s not it.

      • josephine says:

@ Starkiller – the latest mission impossible made more than 3 as much internationally as it did domestically. he is still a huge star – everywhere – and he has endured in the business like few others. i wish his personal life were not so wretched and horrid – i could actually admire his work ethic and career but for that.

    • whatWHAT? says:

      his fellow cult members?…

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I’m going to guess: (1) Scientologists, (2) men and women who still find him sexually attractive, and (3) very short or insecure men who want to see one of their own kicking ass.

    • Mustang Sally says:

@Sally Oddly, I don’t judge Tom Cruise as much how he “treats” Suri – but the situation that precipitated how behaves toward her (read that: his devotion to Co$) is what bugs me most. My (uninformed) but best guess is that Katie had so much dirt on Tom & Scientology that he forfeited his parental rights. Katie has never made a peep (probably signed an NDA) and in turn, he does not see his daughter; you know that the Church must have told him to protect the Church. I don’t think his older kids have ever made mention of Katie and they were told they could no be close to their own mother, Nicole Kidman (to me – that part somehow bugs me more). I no longer watch his movies due to the fact he continues to shill for Co$ – however you have to wonder if this guy is in his own private hell as I’ll wager the Co$ has equally damaging dirt on him. All in all – I will concur with you – whatever is going on in his life and various situations surrounding him is very, very sad.

    • NOTus says:

I do. Tom’s movies are entertaining. His stunts are almost Jacky Chan lvl insane. And since i know how much dedication he puts into his work (google that leg fiasco during his last MI movie), i enjoy his movies.

  2. Powermoonchrystal says:

I feel seen by this article. It summarizes my thoughts on this trailer, and don’t get me started on the younger girlfriend character (at least it is not a 20 year old replacement, I guess). Between this and losing out on the Elvis biopic, Miles Teller can’t catch a break.

    • noway says:

Jennifer Connelly is almost 49 years old. There’s an 8 1/2 year difference between her and Crusie, but Hollywood is like dog years that’s just 1. One of the few good things about this movie is this. As most 49 year old women don’t get cast in these action blockbusters as the girlfriend anymore.

      • woca says:

Wow I had no idea Jennifer was in this. To be cast as the girl in a blockbuster at her age is kind of groundbreaking…. a few generations ago stars like Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster and Dean Martin routinely had love interests who were 30 years younger.

Most people don’t realize that the majority of Tom’s co-stars in the 1980s were older than him: Becky, McGillis, Shelly Long, MEM. In the ’90s they were his age to a few years younger, and in the ’00s on average ten, 15 years younger max. I don’t think he has ever had a girlfriend on-screen who could reasonably be his daughter, which has to be unprecedented for a major movie star.

  3. Um says:

Lots of these movies look like ads and there is a relationship between the DoD and the film industry.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Someone described the first Top Gun as a “Gay Sex Romp,” disguised as a “Navy Recruiting Film,” disguised as a “Summer Action Movie.” A turducken, if you will.

      • tempest prognosticator says:

        A perfect description!

      • manda says:

OMG THAT IS HILARIOUS!!! My husband and his friends always make jokes about the volleyball scene. I’ve only seen the movie once, and not until like 15 years ago. Gotta admit, I don’t get the hype over Top Gun. Tom Cruise was cute back in the day, but he was also cute in Cocktail, which is the 80’s Tom Cruise movie that my brain goes to.

      • Christin says:

The soundtrack was the best part of the original movie. It’s like a time capsule of ‘80s soft rock and ballads.

      • whatWHAT? says:

there’s a guy I follow on Facebook, Sam Kalidi, who is a gay blogger/photographer/comedian of sorts (he’s HILARIOUS, if a bit naughty) and he posted this really funny mash-up of Top Gun scenes of Maverick and Iceman LOOKING at each other called “Love at first sight” or something like that. not sure I can link to it here but if you’re on FB, I recommend finding him and watching it.

      • Kate says:

@whatWHAT – all jokes aside I def got more titillation as a kid watching maverick and iceman staring at each other and getting way into each other’s personal space than I did from the maverick/Charlie dynamic. I don’t know if that’s what they were going for but those 2 guys had amazing chemistry.

      • Anners says:

Mrs Krabapple you are on fire today! I’m crying!!!

    • Mo says:

I saw the original in the theater, more than once. Navy recruiters had tables outside the theater exits in the mall(s) all summer.

    • Ripped says:

Also the CIA and Hollywood. Mo, that’s an incredible anecdote. I think Marvel invited dozens of lady fighter pilots to Captain Marvel premieres.

  4. Dottie says:

How is he still getting jobs? His last few movies have failed he lost a lot of his shine with Katie. I can’t even look at him. So I won’t be watching this.

    • Kittycat says:

Mission Impossible has done extremely well.

For the average movie goer they dont care about Katie Holmes.

      • Some chick says:

Or scientology. He is heavily, heavily involved. Blech!

      • whatWHAT? says:

not about Katie Holmes, and not that he’s the number two guy in a cult that kidnaps people, utilizes slave labor, separates families, and harasses and stalks former members if they leave.

if they want to financially support a cult, that their business. I can’t separate the art from the “artist”. or, in this case, I can’t separate the nostalgia-driven-shlock-garbage-attempt-at-a-cash-grab from the cult leader.

  5. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I’m not surprised; he basically called the movie “Top Gun: Me.”

    • Meg says:

Lol true. His interview with Conan was a bit much, the audience cheering felt excessive and over the top for things that weren’t that great but he did surprise comiccon by showing up so maybe that’s why? I had a gut response that they were told to do that though. he seems so wrapped up in Scientology to create the cocoon of ass kissing and people catering to him

  6. Mia4s says:

Nostalgia huh? Hey remember when Tom Cruise supports a cult and their “alleged” family disconnection and abused? Remember when Katie Holmes was so scared leaving her marriage she used burner cell phones? Remember how Tom “allegedly” doesn’t see his young daughter anymore?

Yep, nostalgia. I remember it like it was yesterday.

    • A random commenter says:

He doesn’t just support a cult, he’s their number two, and we are all well aware of the abuses in Scientology. He also admitted under oath to not seeing suri, so no “allegedly” necessary there. This has zero potential to be a good movie from a good guy—it’s just recycled ego-stroking crap churned out by a cult leader. Hard pass.

    • Granger says:

It’s fascinating how effortlessly Hollywood overlooked the fact that Katie Holmes basically planned her exit from that marriage down to the tiniest detail so she could keep her daughter (and herself) safe. It was the real-life version of that Julia Roberts movie from the 80s, “Sleeping With the Enemy,” where Roberts’s character takes secret swimming lessons for a year before staging her own drowning so she can get out of her abusive marriage. (The movie was mostly crap but what it said about “domestic violence” was important.)

My point is, everyone with any power in Hollywood seems to have completely forgotten what she had to do to get away from that man and his cult. And here he is, still being backed and financed and supported by the Hollywood machine so he can Cruise his way through yet another cheeseball blockbuster film and make millions of dollars to donate to Scientology so it can continue to control, oppress and isolate people.

It really is still a man’s world, people.

  7. Aang says:

The first Top Gun was the bane of my existence for a few months in the 80’s. My brother bought the VHS for some ridiculously high price for back then, I think $25. He watched it constantly. The fact that this is back when the world is crumbling around us seems so right.

    • Esmom says:

Aw, Aang. My 80s movie like that was Dirty Dancing when it was on HBO constantly. My college roommates would hate watch it every. single. night.

And your last sentence is spot on.

      • Aang says:

Hahaha! At least Patrick Swazye was super hot in that movie. He wasn’t the greatest actor but he was beautiful. Tom Cruise always gave me the creeps.

    • Malificent says:

My “Tom Cruise” movie is Risky Business because I’m old enough to have seen it first-run in the theater. Sigh.

I will say that I like the idea that Tom Cruise’s character has been stalled for 30 years — I’m surprised that Tom would allow his character to be portrayed in a mid-life crisis. Maybe the movie might end up with the tiniest bit of substance?

      • Fluffy Princess says:

Yes, Risky Business and also, All the Right Moves. . .oh the 80’s!

Also, Dirty Dancing was the SH** when it came out. Everyone saw that movie at least eleventy times…and “Time of My Life” played NON STOP on every single radio station.

  8. Ariel says:

I watched a bit of the awful mummy movie Cruise was in, and the same thing struck me- why is this 50-60 year old man playing a part of a character meant to be in his 20s?

The Scientology cult still has tax free church status.

    • Some chick says:

And still gets away with abusing their employees in multiple ways, including taking away their passports when they’re working on that cheezy-azz rustbucket they refer to as a “luxury yacht.”

    • Meg says:

Part of a cult like Scientology is supposed self help which seems to end up sending them the message they are superior to most people, and no one not even tom cruise is above or can avoid aging yet when ur told u can have control and power over things like that people fall for it, it strokes their ego-which may be why he’s still doing movies playing roles meant for 20 somethings

  9. ByTheSea says:

    Wow, he finally aged…

    • delphi says:

I bet there will be lots of inverted flying scenes…not only because that’s Maverick’s M.O….but also because Tommy Boy needs the loving forces of gravitational pull to make him look young enough to still be flying fighter jets. (I guess “Top Gun: Administrative Desk Duty” wasn’t as appealing.)

I wonder if Xenu will make a guest appearance as the bad-guy of generic foreign origin.

  10. Kittycat says:

    The movie actually looks good.

The flight sequences alone have guaranteed I will watch the movie.

    • I don’t know about good, but it does push all of the “back in the day” buttons and I’m always down for a good volleyball beach scene so I’ll be there next to you watching.

    • Feeshalori says:

I agree, Kittycat. The flight sequences look exciting and watching Ed Harris spit out the word “captain” with such disdain is worth a watch. But seeing the aging Maverick as a Peter Pan hotshot is definitely a stretch so I’ll wait till release on DVD.

      • Algernon says:

That’s so weird though because a Navy captain is equivalent to a colonel so Maverick is quite high ranking now. There is no shame in a long military that ends at that level, as the vast majority of officers do not become admirals/generals. My husband left the Army as a lt colonel and considered it a job well done. I was confused by Ed Harris’s tone in this trailer, berating Maverick for…attaining a high rank?

      • sommolierlady says:

Algernon- Wondering the same thing. My dad retired as a full-bird Colonel was was quite proud. Captain is nothing to look down on.

      • Feeshalori says:

Ladies, l meant no snub about the rank of captain. And if l were better versed in Navy rankings, I’d be just as puzzled as you by Ed Harris’ tone. Maybe because Maverick is such a “maverick” his CO or whatever role Ed is playing is giving him a dressing down. And apparently in his eyes his rank is not up to snuff.

    • SamC says:

Doubt I’ll see this one but the first Top Gun was such a fun popcorn movie; my friends and I will still reference the volleyball scene and at the time we all daydreamed of being serenaded in a bar by a group of Navy pilots. I know so much of it, and Tom Cruise, are problematic when looking st it now but for nostalgia of friends and that time of my life, still one of my faves.

      • Bex says:

The problem is that no-one under the age of 40 cares about this. My kids are late teens, early twenties and have never heard of top gun or Tom Cruise come to that.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I’m not a big action movie person and typically prefer small indie type films…but those flight sequences made my jaw drop. I watched the trailer multiple times. The planes and the filming equipment have improved so much since the original. I can’t believe human beings are capable of doing these things. It’s incredible.

  11. Kittycat says:

Glad Jennifer is getting work. She is si underrated.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Really? I think she is severely over-rated. Her Oscar win over Helen Mirren and Maggie Smith from “Gosford Park” was one of the biggest shams in Oscar history. Connelly shouldn’t even have been NOMINATED when women like Eileen Atkins, Kristin Scott Thomas, Kelly McDonald, Emily Watson, and pretty much every single actress from Gosford Park out-acted Connelly by miles.

      • Fluffy Princess says:

Wait, Jennifer Connelly was in Gosford Park?? I remember everyone but her, and of course Clive Owen, because, well, Clive Owen.

I have a copy of that movie on DVD, I need to blow the dust off of it and check it out for her performance that I don’t even remember.

      • SamC says:

JC wasn’t in Gosford Park but she beater the two actresses nominated from the movie.

    • Nibbi says:

she is & has always been one of the hands-down most beautiful women in hollywood evAR.

i’m really happy that she’s in this even though she’s no longer 25.

… which gives me sort of mixed feelings about the fact that she still LOOKS 25.
i mean, get it, girl !!! she looks amazing!!! — but would it be ok for tom cruise’s love interest to have at least one wrinkle for his 5?

i dunno. guess we should celebrate the progress, tho.

  12. manda says:

Tom Cruise really needs to take a look at himself with a critical eye, because he is starting to become ridiculous. He made some really freaking great movies (Jerry Maguire is so good, The Last Samurai is good, and I know he was critically praised for Born on the Fourth of July, and there are more), and he needs to just be proud of what he has accomplished. The Mummy movie was bad, but honestly, it was entertaining. That CIA plane movie he was in a few years ago was pretty good. He is pretty good at what he does, but the vanity and the obliviousness is starting to be the dominant things about him.

  13. Lenn says:

Do navy pilot still work at that age?

    • No. Not in the world of everyday ops. He would have been riding a desk and likely “retired” if he hadn’t reached flag level by that stage of his career.

      • Fiji says:

I was wondering that. I had the same problem with him in The Mummy. Wasn’t he a little OLD (sorry Tom, plastic surgery only does so much) to play that type of military character?!?

      • Algernon says:

There have been a few exceptions, though, that flew into their 50s, even 60s. I assume Maverick will be one of these special cases, but I thought it would make more sense if he was an administrative officer who had to get back in the saddle for some reason, so to speak.

ETA: The Mummy was *clearly* written for a younger actor, at one point Russell Crowe, who is a year younger than Tom!, called him “young man.” It was weird.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

He would have been moved to a desk job after Goose’s death. That was a career-ending mistake, and Maverick would have never flown again. Ask a real pilot about that (I did).

      • RPGplayer says:

        Mrs.Krabapple,
The way they showed the accident it wasn’t Maverick’s. When the jet in front pulled up and out Mav’s F-14 ran through the jet wash. The TF-30 engines on the F-14 were notorious at being very sensitive to such things. The flat spin is difficult to get out off but with no engines its impossible. How Goose got killed was an accident with the canopy being stuck right above them. Also this was in the 80’s and the ‘zero defects’ mentally hadn’t taken hold yet.

I”ve read about worse accidents where the pilot didn’t lose his wings.

  14. Chaine says:

I wonder how the film will explain away the Kelly McGillis character.

    • Nibbi says:

eh. i figure maverick gets to be like bond, james bond in which all the mega luuuurves at the end of one movie are all heartfelt and real and 4EVER and then in the next one, having been fantasy PerfectGirlfriends, have had the good graces to simply stop existing so that he can go ahead and “get the girl” another time.

  15. Christin says:

I watched the trailer last night and kept backing up to the very brief glimpse of younger people. At first I thought it was a snippet from the original. I thought they would prominently feature Val in the trailer.

Tom is going to look older next to any of the younger actors, and his vanity may not be able to take that type of comparison. The trailer has a lot of shadows and jet scenes to disguise his face.

  16. Jennifer Smith says:

No. No no no no no. I started laughing and then I became horrified. Is this Trumpian hellscape not enough to deal with? No. Just…no.

    • Holly hobby says:

Rump would give him the presidential medal of freedom if $ci and tommy pays the right price or books all the floors to his house of horrors (hotel).

  17. PlayItAgain says:

Nope. Just no. I get enough male toxicity on the news. I don’t need it in my leisure time. Plus, Miles Teller…yuck. A thousand times no.

    • ariel says:

When the original came out I was 14. I saw it 6 times. Loved it.
(I was also flying in 4 seat airplanes with a family friend, retired air force pilot- so I was all about the flying that summer)
And then the singer for Berlin, who did the love song in the movie (Take My Breath Away), did an interview where she mentioned that she did not approve of the film’s message of- go kill the unseen “bad guy”.
This had not occurred to 14 year old me.
Changed the way I looked at it.

      • Deering24 says:

Yeah, nobody seems to recall that Cruise’s actions at movie’s end puts the US at war with the Soviet Union.

      • Nibbi says:

Totally this. I was kinda wondering during the trailer who the “bad guys” get to be this time around, the Cold War being over and all. (Damn, that really puts the whole timeframe into perspective, doesn’t it? …)
I hope to god it’s no brown people/ muslims/ “foreigner” bullshit like that.
We just exist in a different geopolitical era, despite best efforts of certain administrations to reawaken outdated devils to suit their military-industrial complex portfolios/ race-baiting domestic political audiences…
It just seems like in this day and age, we are our own worst enemy…
But okay yeah, it’s just a movie, that’s perhaps wading a bit deep…
Just, I totally feel like that whole “Great American Hero!!!” vibe was greatly reinforced in the culture of my generation with that flick. We grew up eating that stuff with a spoon, so I do think messages like that are important.

  18. Fiji says:

The title of this article made me laugh. Well done.

My interest in seeing it remains at zero

  19. Fiji says:

Ok – why the weird period!?!
    Feel the need.
    Feel the need

    Other taglines
Maverick: too dumb to know he’s too old for this
Maverick: feel the need to give us all the nostalgia money
    Maverick: miles who?
Maverick: The Turducken 2 (please see mrs krabapple’s brilliant comment for the reference)

  20. Tallia says:

Wow. Some of that cinematography is breathtaking.

  21. Valiantly Varnished says:

Tom Cruise is 57 years old. In what world would the US military still be allowing a nearly 60 year old man to fly fighter jets?? The whole thing is laughable. I watched the trailer last night and it just looks…BAD. A lot of Tom Cruise doing his Tom Cruise squint being Maverick-y. No thanks.

  22. minx says:

    He’s ridiculous.

  23. Betsy says:

If I’m doing the exact same thing, wearing the exact same thing, acting the exact same way at 55 as I was at 25, someone please slap me.

You’re old, Tom. Mutton dressed as lamb.

  24. Incredulous says:

I hope Anthony Edwards has a cameo, I don’t care how stupid or shoe-horned in it is, that man is Goose.

If the movie has any good sense of self, it will be gayer than the first one. I am still surprised Kelly McGillis’ character isn’t called Charlie Beard.

    • noway says:

Spoiler alert Goose died in the first movie. How do we bring Anthony Edwards back? As a ghost who aged? Do ghost’s age? I would also like to see Anthony Edwards back in some movies or tv but not this even if Goose wasn’t dead.

  25. Lakota says:

Well, smear some vaseline on the lens, stand on a milk crate and do a long tracking shot – it’s MAVERICK!

I was so in love with him when I was 14 (back before sofa jumping and extreme scientology craziness). This has inspired me to watch the original tonight with my kids. The new one looks ludicrous but I’ll still probably end up checking it out at some point.

  26. Laura Cee says:

Once I watched the trailer, I couldn’t wait to come here to read the commentary. CB’s never let me down with the comments!

  27. Liz version 700 says:

I assumed when I heard about the sequel that Cruise would be playing the former Maverick mentoring other age appropriate pilots. This!?!? The trailer combined with the glorious comments… I can’t stop laughing. Oh Tom, the proper name should be Top Gun: I’ll Pass

    • schmootc says:

That’s what I assumed too. Like he’d be taking the instructor role that Tom Skerritt had. Because that made sense. This business does not. It is weird.

      • Holly hobby says:

Tom Skerrit. Now that’s a sexy man. I remember him from the original

      • Nibbi says:

Definitely. Him as an instructor makes total sense bc that’s what he said he’d do at the end of the first one, too.
The trailer makes it look like he’s still up there kicking ass all the time. Just inane.

  28. sommolierlady says:

Stick to abuse and slave labor Tommy. It’s what you do best.

  29. BeeCee says:

I feel like I’m the only one, but I’m really excited for this movie.

I grew up watching this movie, and it’s my boyfriend’s favourite. He would watch it on repeat when he was younger.

We both got goosebumps watching the trailer

    • Tiffany :) says:

      You’re not the only one!
My boyfriend was like a 10 year old when I came home last night, he was so giddy about this movie. He wanted to be a pilot when he was a kid because of the 1st movie.

    • Riley says:

I can’t stand the man in real life, but will absolutely see this 🙂

  30. HaHa says:

The only thing I liked about the trailer was that the opening scene of the fighter jet in the desert was shot in the Black Rock Desert where Burning Man is held. Any Burner will recognize it!

  31. DS9 says:

If I don’t hear Kenny Loggins in this, I’m burning the redbox kiosk to the ground in protest

    • Fluffy Princess says:

      Hahahahaha!

    • Christin says:

And Berlin breathlessly signing, “Take My Years Away….”

Maybe it could go like this…

      Using every lotion
      In my youth-chasing game.
      In this endless galaxy
      I truly have no shame…

      Bad, I know…

  32. Fluffy Princess says:

The best kept secret in Hollywood has got to be who does his plastic surgery. I’m sorry but he’s 57, there is no way he hasn’t had a lot of work done. He needs to let folks in on his secret.

Also, at his age, he needs to switch over to comedies — because he is a great comedic actor!! He was amazing in Tropic Thunder — so foul and obscene!!, and a not so well known movie with Cameron Diaz called Knight and Day. Yes, he did play a super duper spy guy, but it was kind of a parody of Mission Impossible. His timing is great.

He’s almost 60 — it’s NOT believable anymore. He needs to be behind the desk giving orders. . .not going toe to toe with 20 year olds, come on!

Well from what I read from Going Clear, his minder, Miss Cabbage wanted him to be an action star. He was doing way more interesting possibly Oscar worthy movies before he fell back in the crazy wagon (Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut etc). This is Miss Cabbage’s wet dream.

A lot of actors segue into comedies as they age. He was good in Jerry Maguire. He should consider it.

There were rumors he has his work done in Brazil. He used to make periodic trips there.

      • Fluffy Princess says:

Oooh interesting! And what kind of name is Miss Cabbage? It sounds like one of the teachers from Harry Potter!

Whomever his Doctor is in Brazil – BRAVO, because his work is top notch. He should pass that doctor’s card around, so we can have less duck lips and over pulled or too much filler faces. Denise Richards I am talking to you, hon!

      • Christin says:

I get the Miss Cabbage reference. Number one! 🤣

Totally agree about changing direction to comedy or broadening his dramatic resume. I don’t know if his body can hold out for 10-20 years with all the stunt work he has done.

Of course, he and Miss Cabbage likely believe themselves immortal and that they can just highest-level-whatever themselves back to a new body.

    • Ripped says:

Just check out his mission impossible 2 promo event photos. He has had A LOT of work done, including significant fillers in the cheeks and eye-lifts, it looks like. That massive douchebag Cuba Gooding Jr said he went over to Cruise’s one day and his face was covered in little red dots (healing from new work).

    Cringe

  34. Adrien says:

I don’t like Tom Cruise but I enjoy Tom Cruise movies.

  35. Katebush says:

My husband is super excited to see this movie he loves anything with planes and the flying scenes in the trailer were amazing

  36. Riley says:

While I agree that this is one long Tom Cruise tribute to himself, I will still go see it, LOL!

  37. S says:

I think it looks like fun and I’m sure it will do well. The people on this board lead miserable lives.

  38. Gail says:

i normally would not be into this at all, but Glen Powell’s in it sooooooo……

  39. Oliviajoy1995 says:

So no Tom Skerritt in this one? I love that guy. Does he still act?

  40. laura-j says:

I wonder if he will be in any shots with Jon Hamm? I saw him in real life once, he’s at least 6′ 1″ if not taller. He’s a very large and handsome man.

  41. Yes Doubtful says:

God he’s an awful actor, but I will probably end up seeing this.

  42. Wah says:

You loons are salty coz the whole damn world is excited about Top Gun . None are interested in witch movie your hag is starring in, despite it being Disney movie.
Source: Top Gun teaser 13M views in a day
Male Witch movie barely 8M views in a week.😝

  43. Nalsonn says:

I feel seen by this article. It summarizes my thoughts on this trailer, and don’t get me started on the younger girlfriend character (at least it is not a 20 year old replacement, I guess). Between this and losing out on the Elvis biopic, Miles Teller can’t catch a break.

  44. Nalsonn says:

    how to move

  45. Margsy says:

Grew up in an aviation family surrounded by pilots and knew some of the pilots that flew in the first movie, and have now worked in aviation myself for over twenty years (formerly as a pilot too).

So many wonderful flying scenes in these movies, it’s a lot more than just Tom Cruise. Massive shout out to the amazing pilots actually pulling off these stunts!

    Cannot wait to see it!

  46. Feeshalori says:

I love the trailer’s opening scene where the jet barely skims the desert sand and sharply ascends at such a steep angle. Kudos to the pilots who perform such amazing feats.

  47. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I’ll take a hard pass on this one. My husband is about to pee his pants in excitement.

  48. Nancypants says:

I won’t see it at a theater but maybe at home.
I liked him best in Jerry Maguire but can’t stand who he is in real life.

I will say that I’ve been retired from the Air Force a number of years and things vary from branch of service to branch of service and over time but Cruise is 57. I’m pretty sure there is an age limit for military pilots before they are grounded.

He looks good. I remember when he had some work done but it was done well but he’s still hot-doggin’ as a military pilot? I don’t buy it.

  49. Ann says:

He will be running in the film, right?
