Lizzo: ‘I’m a very, very single bitch… I really like my freedom’

Lizzo performs live on day 2 of the Lovebox festival 2019

Lizzo is, as the kids say, a MOOD. Lizzo has been everywhere this year as her 2017 single “Truth Hurts” became the slow-burning, word-of-mouth jam of the year. Awards, awards shows, and awards show performances followed and now Lizzo has officially arrived and become a very big deal. I love her music and I love her. She is so refreshing and I love that she’s famous enough to chat with People Magazine about her love life and what she would do if the right d–k came along. And yes, she really said that sh-t to People Magazine! LMAO, those white moms subscribing to People are going to be like “good for her,” hopefully.

Lizzo is 100 percent that single bitch! On her new LP Cuz I Love You, the rapper-singer says, “I’m my own soulmate” — and in the new issue of PEOPLE, Lizzo confirms she is indeed focusing on herself and her career for the time being.

“I’m a very, very single bitch,” the “Juice” performer, 31, tells PEOPLE. “But even if I were in a relationship, I’m a single-minded individual, and I really like my freedom. I think there’s a lot of people that need to be in relationships and need to be in love. I want it sometimes, but I don’t need it. But if the right d— comes along,” Lizzo adds with a laugh, “you better believe I’ll put it on my wall.”

In recent years, Lizzo (real name: Melissa Jefferson) has carved a niche for herself in the pop music world with her empowering lyrics, earnest body positivity advocacy — and confident swagger in her breakup bops, from “Good as Hell” and “Jerome” to”Truth Hurts.”

[From People]

“I think there’s a lot of people that need to be in relationships and need to be in love.” Yes. There are so many people like that and they are so foreign to me! Much like Lizzo, I like my independence and freedom. Single bitches of the world unite! I also believe that there are probably so many men blowing up Lizzo’s phone these days. She radiates confidence and self-possession, and that’s intoxicating for men. She probably is single by choice.

I love her! That’s all. Her album is awesome.

  2. Valiantly Varnished says:

I too am a very, very single b*tch and the need to be in love and in a relationship is foreign to me as well. I LIKE being single. I like my own space and that my time is my own. It will take a very very very special man to make me cool with giving that up.

100% agree ! So many women change once in a relationship or marriage. My sister is one of them. She’s a completely different person now. She only does what her husband wants and only spends time with HIS family. It’s a shame some women lose themselves so easily.

  3. Erinn says:

I only heard that Truth Hurts song for the first time a month or so ago… and I loved every second of it. She seems like she’s having so much fun and clearly loves the work she does.

I love the message she’s spreading here, too. The world could use some more Lizzo.

  4. Diana says:

    Love her so much!!!!!!

  5. Melly says:

Her DNA test was 100% accurate, she is indeed that bitch.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

I feel like that line is my personal testimony because I too took a DNA test and yes – I am that bitch.

  6. Anners says:

I love her for saying that. I’m also a single bitch, and never mind it until people make me feel weird about it. I enjoy my own company and would rather wait for a right person to come along than force myself into a relationship that doesn’t fit comfortably. I wish there were more examples (in tv/movies) of single people with happy, full lives who are not desperately seeking someone to complete them. Wishing her all the success.

    • Naddie says:

“Never mind it until people make me feel weird about it ” That’s my case. Even going out with a couple was never a problem in my eyes, until people start their shit.

      • Anners says:

I feel ya so hard, Naddie. It’s nice to know sometimes that we’re not alone in this 🙂

  9. Christina says:

Women like Lizzo and all of you single bitches are amazing! I wish I could have been that way, and I tried to be, but I wasn’t. Too much stuff to process, but I didn’t know. I didn’t understand how I was supposed to be treated or how to love myself until very late in life. My daughter is living in he Lizzo life, and I am super proud of her.

  10. Nicegirl says:

My son turned 21 a few weeks ago and I went to see Lizzo. It was so much fun. SO MUCH FUN. I go to concerts all the time and have not had that much fun in I don’t know how long! I took tons of shaky video (I was crooning along and shaking my money maker too!!) and I keep watching it all! She has dancers called the big girls and they were so so dang good.

She also said so much good shit to the crowd. She said all lgbtq kids are more than capable to be president. One of my favorite parts was when she had everyone chant “I am my inspiration” – it’s crazy now, cuz it will ring through my mind and I love it! My son says she makes him feel good about himself. ALL the thank you’s to Lizzo!!

And don’t get me started on Tempo! Lizzo +Missy!! It’s 2legit, I can’t even. Seriously we all should be f-king it up to the Tempo. 💕❤️🖖🏽

  11. Charfromdarock says:

I only discovered her about two weeks ago and it’s been ALL Lizzo ALL the time on my play list.

  14. Kage says:

I love that line “I am my own soulmate”. Absolutely brilliant.

  15. Fallon says:

I am HERE for Lizzo. She is phenomenal and I hope she knows how much joy she brings!

  16. Sarah says:

I have been single for a very long time because of my need not to need anyone, to retain my “freedom”. I now believe that as humans we need a life and love partner, and reflecting upon my way of thinking, I just think that I was too afraid to be engulfed in a relationship and to make my happiness depend on someone else than me. But I have now come to understand that it is not what will happen if my future boyfriend respects my boundaries (and he’d better do ahah). I would like to share a part of my life with him but also keep a part of my life just for myself. This will be my compromise 🙂

  17. Dina says:

100% single bitch right here, also. love her so much!
