Stephen Ross, owner of SoulCycle & Equinox, is hosting a Trump fundraiser

Something I think about too much: how we actually sat here in 2016 and argued about whether Trump voters were giving “tacit support to a racist system.” Jon Stewart argued that they were not. Many people argued that the vast majority of Trump voters were not actually racist, but merely willing to overlook Trump’s racism in the pursuit of other political goals. Nearly three years later, I f–king hope no one with have a brain tries to legitimately make that argument. Except it’s happening again, you guys. It started with the announcement that Trump would appear at two fundraisers in the Hamptons on Friday.

President Trump is slated to appear at a pair of fundraising events in the Hamptons on Friday, including one that charges up to $250,000 for lunch, a photo and a private roundtable with the president.

One event is scheduled to take place at the Southampton home of a New York real estate developer who owns the Miami Dolphins…The Friday luncheon in Southampton is scheduled to take place at the home of New York real estate developer Stephen Ross and his wife, jewelry designer Kara Ross. Tickets are priced at $100,000 for a photo opportunity and lunch, and $250,000 for the package that includes the roundtable discussion, the invite shows.

[From WaPo]

Stephen Ross owns the Miami Dolphins, the Equinox chain, the SoulCycle chain, and he’s a major real estate developer in New York. Miami Dolphin Kenny Stills kicked off the criticism, tweeting out the article with this:

The backlash grew over the course of Wednesday, with SoulCycle and Equinox gym members outraged that their membership fees go towards supporting a Nazi and his fascist regime. The gyms chains basically argued that Stephen Ross doesn’t have anything to do with the daily operations of the chains, so people should stop canceling their memberships. Ross eventually made a statement:

In a statement provided to POLITICO, Ross said that he had “always been an active participant in the democratic process” and that he preferred “to engage directly and support the things I deeply care about.”

“I have known Donald Trump for 40 years, and while we agree on some issues, we strongly disagree on many others and I have never been bashful about expressing my opinions. I started my business with nothing and a reason for my engagement with our leaders is my deep concern for creating jobs and growing our country’s economy.”

I have been, and will continue to be, an outspoken champion of racial equality, inclusion, diversity, public education and environmental sustainability, and I have and will continue to support leaders on both sides of the aisle to address these challenges.”

[From Politico]

“A reason for my engagement with our leaders is my deep concern for creating jobs and growing our country’s economy.” It’s weird how only white folks support Donald Trump for “the economy.” It’s weird how many rich white folks support Trump for “the economy.” It’s almost like “the economy” is code for something. What could it be code for? “Babies in cages” or “inciting white terrorists” or “violent misogyny,” perhaps.

Anyway, people are canceling their memberships, as they should. I’m not a member of these fancy gyms – I go to my local YMCA (and it’s awesome).

Bleah. A pox on their houses.

    • Beth says:

Coopting the top comment to say:

“The economy” isn’t code for babies in cages, at least not when it’s referenced by rich, old men. The babies in cages are a distraction from the corrupt kickbacks, misogyny, nepotism, backroom dealings, and illegal shenanigans that are going on. When there are SO MANY things in the news, it’s so easy to bury any story that you want and confuse people who are less educated.

      • Gobo says:

The Economy is primarily code for “Not paying taxes is more important to me than any other concern, no matter how horrifying things get.”.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

Or there’s money to be made by keeping babies in cages, and I’m all for it (seriously, follow the money – I don’t know if he is benefitting, but a lot of people are)

  2. manda says:

I hate spinning with every fiber of my being, but I wish that I was into it and a member of soul cycle just so I could cancel my membership. I’ll have to see whether any crappy people are involved with planet fitness, haha (I’m sure there are, it’s really hard to not find a reason to boycott most things, you just have to do your research.)

  3. Diana says:

Cancel your memberships! There are plenty of businesses and other places where we can get fit without supporting racism and white supremacy.

    • Jerusha says:

Ross also owns PURE Yoga and Blink Fitness. Add them to the boycott.

      • Diana says:

        Pure barre too???

I stick to jazzercise and old fashioned spin!

      • Harryg says:

I like Jazzercise, it’s so old school (at least the one near me).
Those tightly packed spinning classes look so claustrophobic to me. I thought SoulCycle was owned by the two founders? I guess they sold it?

      • Megan says:

Boycotting won’t hurt Ross, but it will hurt the personal trainers and spin instructors who get paid by the client/class. Since Equinox and Soul Cycle’s market base is urban areas in wealthy blue states, there is staff are likely Democrats.

        P.S. Jazzercise for ever.

      • Chloe says:

@Diana – Nah, Pure Barre got bought by Xponential Fitness last year. I’m not sure who they have donated to. I got curious when I saw your comment and tried to search the FEC’s website but came up with nothing. I could be doing it wrong, though.

    • NaomiPaige99 says:

      ++1

      • Diana says:

@HarryG look me up if you are ever visiting NH. I teach Jazzercise and go out of my way to keep it fresh and a$$ kicking! Plus I only play new music! It’s so fun but intense at the same time. Plus the strength training during the last 20 minutes makes it one of the best most effective all around total body conditioning workouts in a format that’s been around forever… moves are current and easy to follow!

      • Harryg says:

        Ok, thanks! 🙂

  4. Devon says:

    Equinox -I just canceled!

  5. Jenns says:

I would be willing to bet that a huge number of corporations/billionaires are going to support Trump because of the economy and the tax cuts. This should be **very** troubling since the amount of $$$$ they pumped into his campaign will significantly help with his re-election.

    • Darla says:

Yep. It’s not just them. I try and find out from people I know, how does that person support trump? Like my mom’s friends. They whisper that he is embarrassing and they wish he would keep his mouth shut, but he’s done some good things. My mom is like, like what! And the answer? Well, the stock market. See, they have these 401ks or whatever. They have portfolios. They’re not rich. But they made money. They’re white ladies. Same thing I had a conversation with my friend yesterday because she thinks I insult white males too often. And she tells me she knows A LOT of people who support trump who aren’t white at all. She lives in NYC and works for a big bank. She claims she knows a lot of Latinx who support him. I asked how this can be? She said, they tell me the same thing….he’s making them money. She also says a lot of jews support him. She’s Jewish so I guess she would know. She hates him to be very clear. She says she is just trying to get me to see that I can’t demonize white males because it’s not just them. But I’m gonna do it anyway.

      • Darla says:

Just to add on, I’m still gonna do it because these anecdotes aside, without white men, no republican could ever be elected. Of course, without white people period, no Republican could ever be elected. I am just saying that it seems to me that too many people aren’t going to turn on trump until their 401ks take dives. That’s how sick people are.

      • himmiefan says:

See, I just don’t buy this that Trump or any President has that much control over the economy. The economy’s huge and is affected by many things. I do know that Trump’s tax cuts mostly benefitted the 1% and created a huge deficit.

      • Tate says:

Tell them all to frame their current 401k statements cause they are not going to like what is coming.

      • Lady Luna says:

I’m curious as to how this women can justify that they support Dump because he’s making them money. For what? Where do they think this is going? So many people have come out and said that this feels like 1930’s Germany and we know what happened to all the Germans that supported that. It really boggles my mind how selfish some people are while kids are in cages and loosing their parents to this 4th Reich. And as a LatinX it’s shameful to hear they support him for money, if they think they’re going to be safe when ICE comes knocking I have a bridge to sell them.

      • SKF says:

Considering the US stock market just took a massive dive (as did others globally) because of Trump’s trade war with China; they might want to revise that sort of view.

The main reason the economy has been strong under Trump is the ongoing effect of Obama-era economic policies and continuing programs.

      • holly hobby says:

Do these people realize he is coasting on the success of Obama’s economic policies? That man doesn’t know what he’s doing. Look at that stupid trade war with China. China owns us and they can play the long game of waiting.

What makes me sick is that Jr and Gavin’s ex was in San Francisco last month for a fundraiser hosted by rich SF. Among the supporters was the one of the owners of the SF Giants. Those people should be exposed too and their businesses denounced.

    • AnnaKist says:

I completely agree with you, Jenns amd Darla. Why would his supporters and those willing to throw massive amounts of money – and even the small donations add up – at him to ensure his re-election care about anything other than what he promises to do for them? I’m yet to be convinced that all is as good in America as the Republicans would have people believe. It’s very possible that the real effects of his policies will become more apparent in a couple more years, whether he gets re-elected or not. Besides, millionaires and billionaires thrive in any country, no matter who is in government. I really fear that his campaign for 2020 is going to be even more aggressive and more vile than 2016. If he gets a second term, my home can be your new home, down here in glorious Australia. 🐨 🦘 🌞

  6. Mignionette says:

No, no, no…. You CANNOT have it both ways Mr Ross.

    • Esmom says:

I know, right? This is really depressing to me. I don’t belong to any of those gyms but we are in Chicago and have reluctantly boycotted the Cubs because of their Trump-supporting owners. White Sox games are fun, too, and they need a boost in attendance anyway.

    • LadyMTL says:

Seriously! Like “oh, we disagree on many things but I’m going to hold a fundraiser for him anyway.” Sure dude, sure.

      • Kitten says:

        He sounds like Bob Kraft.
If you support a racist then you’re fine with racism, period.

      • Christina says:

The argument Ross is trying to make is that he financies both sides in order to have access to power so that he and his foundation can do good. If this is true, what Democratic fundraisers has he bankrolled like this one? Corporations donate for access all the time, but the big ones do play both sides. Does he do this for whoever is president? I don’t know, but the awful thing about American politics is that the wealthy already have access that regular people will never have, and they did even before dark money was legalized with citizens united.

People are making money, but it’s at the expense of vulnerable people, and we don’t have compassion for other people in the US anymore. I was reading about how many people don’t vaccinate because they care more about their individual kid than the concept of herd immunity. We don’t have a culture of unity at all anymore. It’s seen as naive and dumb to put others before you. Lots of us fight it, but not enough of us, and the Trumps and Epstein’s of the world thrive. Ross is a hypocrite.

    • whatWHAT? says:

      yeah, THIS.

“I have been, and will continue to be, an outspoken champion of racial equality, inclusion, diversity, public education and environmental sustainability, and I have and will continue to support leaders on both sides of the aisle to address these challenges.”

but here’s the thing…BOTH SIDES are not addressing these challenges. only one side is. and you’re on the wrong side.

      • lucy2 says:

Absolutely. If you care about those things, you need to vote Dem in 2020. End of story.

  7. sherry says:

People who hold these fundraisers or attend them are basically admitting they’re racists themselves.

  8. boredblond says:

If his only concern is economic growth, can I assume he gave a ton of money to the Obama campaign? Realistically the prez has virtually no effect on global economics, but there was a huge recovery during the Obama admin, and it’s just a steady line now. I said from day one people support big business-failure babydonnie for the hate, not despite it. His sick twisted mind/rhetoric is his one distinguishing difference so that has to be what they like.

    • whatWHAT? says:

but it’s not “economic growth”. they use the term “economy” to mean “their wallet/bank account” and “he gave me a fat tax cut”.

      • Kate says:

Yeeep. The federal estate and gift tax exemption is $11.4 million per person. It was $5.6 million before the new 2018 tax law and would be $1 million if certain democrats had their way. If you think the wealthy don’t care about how much of their money they can protect from the evil IRS and pass onto Junior’s trust fund, you are overlooking a big point.

      • Megan says:

Ross is only worth $7 billion. I mean obviously he needs tax breaks because whoever dies with the most money wins. /s

  9. Jb says:

I wish I could boycott this because I wish I could afford these gyms but nope. Shocker rich and wealthy white men support Trump…let’s stop being surprised when wealthy people do horrible stuff.

  10. BlueSky says:

I mean, are we really surprised that old rich white dudes support him? I’m not. We don’t have a Equinox or a SoulCycle here but I wouldn’t want to put my money there if I was.

I hear that same tired “look at the economy” argument all the time from white guys. I didnt hear that kinda argument when Obama was on office so those guys can go f@ck themselves. I don’t care how nice you think you are, you keep supporting this guy you are just trash and complicit in his actions.

    • Jess says:

      Amen, Bluesky!

    • Kitten says:

They didn’t say that when Obama was in office because initially, Obama (like every other Dem) inherited a mess of an economy from GW and that’s all that their selective memory will allow for them to recall. They conveniently ignore the fact that it took Obama almost five years to get the economy back on track and it will take Trump less than four to destroy the incredible economy that he was lucky enough to inherit.

This is what the GOP does: they destroy the economy and leave it up to a Dem to fix it then when they have control of the executive, they take credit for the great economy.
      Rinse and repeat.

  11. A says:

Anybody read about the Jimmy Aldaoud case? It’s absolutely shameful.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

I saw it on Twitter yesterday. Absolutely heartbreaking. I have never wished ill on anyone, but since this group of republiTHUGS took office, I wish them all to hell!

    • Tourmaline says:

Yes, what a tragic thing. Awful!

  12. Emily says:

I found Equinox and Soul Cycle’s statements to be poorly conceived. They called him a passive investor. He’s the chairman of the board.

  13. Sofia says:

Canceling my Equinox membership now. Doing it through the corporate team rather than the local staff, as they are more likely to record the reason why.

  14. Kitk says:

    Boycotting is just stupid.

    • Darla says:

No, it’s quite effective. Giving your money to a guy who then hands it over to trump is monstrous.

    • BlueSky says:

@KitK I’m sure my father and many others who participated in the Civil Rights Movement would disagree with you.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

Only someone with no grasp on the history of activism and civil rights would comment something like this. Educate yourself.

    • MellyMel says:

I’m gonna need you to open up a history book cause your statement has been proven false many times over the years.

    • whatWHAT? says:

no, burning something you’ve already paid for (like Nike sneakers, etc) is just stupid.

boycotting actually works because it’s taking $ out of the business’ hands, not the consumers’.

    • Harryg says:

No it’s not stupid! It’s very effective!

    • Algernon says:

In a capitalist system, our dollars are the most important vote we have. The most effective form of voting is voting with your wallet.

    • Rose says:

Tell that to the people of colour who participated in the Montgomery bus boycott during the Civil Rights era.

    • lucy2 says:

Not true. It’s not 100% effective, but a lot of time it causes some change.

    • holly hobby says:

Vote with your pocketbook! That’s the only way Russer can’t manipulate the outcome. People should boycott that turd’s properties too.

  15. Darla says:

This whole soulcycle thing is hilarious from the getgo. Good old fashioned spinning is still great! And there is nothing in this world that beats taking your bike out on a beautiful day, to a great trail in a park. Birds singing, a breeze, little bodies of water. Are you kidding me? Why, because no one is looking at you and thinking how rich and wonderful you must be out on the trail? I wouldn’t trade my outdoor bike rides for anything. I laugh at these soulcycle people and I always have. You know what they are? Really great sales leads for the Goop.

    • Mumbles says:

I agree. Plus a lot of gyms have free spinning classes included in their membership. They just don’t have Jo Malone candles and cucumber water and an instructor intoning vapid self-actualization cliches and, most important, a feeling of smug satisfaction that you pay $35 for a class that the poors can’t afford.

If there is anything we all learned from this nightmare of the past three years, it is that the elites and the powerful will cave and only look out for themselves. I remember hearing people on cable news saying that even if Trump won, McConnell and Ryan and the wealthy elite would keep him in check and speak out against his racism and awfulness. Nope. They got their tax breaks, and that’s all that matters to them. Us regular people need to look out for ourselves.

    • Rose says:

Pretty rudeness considering how many folks on this thread have said how they go to SoulCycle or it’s equivalent.

Some of us don’t live in areas that have picturesque lakes or trails, or even live in safe enough neighborhoods to bike without being harassed, shot at, or run over.

  16. OsGirl says:

There’s a SoulCycle and Equinox around the corner from my apartment and I go to Soul occasionally. I definitely won’t go anymore though which is a bummer because the staff and instructors are great.

I’m happy I give basically all my money to Solidcore now though whose owner told Ivanka she wasn’t welcome at their studios.

  17. line says:

Basically this fundraising says that his only deep concern is that the wealthy white men and women gets even richer for better control of the country’s economy, in order to maintain social inequality and racial descrimanation, because that’s its the economy program of Trump.

    • Tiffany says:

      THIS THIS THIS !!!!

And until white women start stepping up, nothing will change.

      White first, woman second.

      • Betsy says:

I’m a white woman and I’ve never in my life supported, voted for or donated to a Republican, nor will I ever.

I say this for myself, to say that we’re out there and I don’t know WTF my fellow white ladies are thinking. I genuinely don’t know. Scratch that, the person who said “white first, woman second” is right. That my fellow white ladies think they’ll be protected, will be kept safe, that they really do seem to think minorities are terrible or dangerous and will pretzel themselves to make this okay in their heads. Ladies: the backward men you love and the backward policies they support? You will never be a whole person to them. You will always be less.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

Let’s fix this statement, shall we?

White CONSERVATIVE (ie: republiTHUG) women. NOT all white women.

Don’t lump us all together please. There are a lot of us out here that are doing everything we can to help oust this odious regime.

      • Maria says:

(TheOG)@Jan90067 – stop doing this. Whiteness in itself is problematic and yes, all white women suffer from bad political vision at times. The ones who want to help actually understand this is not a brush to paint us unfairly but a reflection of the work we need to do and what we need to unlearn.
Making someone stop and expend the energy to explain why saying “NOT ALL WHITE WOMEN” is frankly childish, diverting, and unnecessary, is not being part of the solution. It’s emotional labor.

  18. Valiantly Varnished says:

Soulcycle is trash anyway. It’s cultish and elitist and the same goes for Equinox. As for Ross – people should ALSO be looking to boycott his wife’s jewelry line which is quite popular.

  19. Kitten says:

Don’t go to any of these places but we have a few of them here in Boston. I’m proud of the people who have cancelled their memberships. Boycotting is one of the most effective forms of protest. Great job, guys!

    • Darla says:

Yeah you’re right, I was being nasty. I should save my observations on cultural absurdities for my book.

Thank you to whoever is cancelling their memberships.

  20. Dani says:

As many people that will cancel their memberships there are more that won’t. Soulcycle is an elitist white person thing (it’s basically a cult) and Equinox is so expensive that the people who go there don’t actually care about anyone but themselves. It makes no difference for him if people cancel because he’s already a billionaire. The only people it effects are the ones from the actual locations that will be fired because they have to downsize because there isn’t enough money to pay them. Vicious cycle. The poor get poorer and the rich will stay rich.

    • Darla says:

All those places are cults. So is Crossfit. Have you ever been cornered by one of them? I have, at networking events. They’re cultists. What you say may be true but I couldn’t continue going anyway. I refuse to buy so much as a light bulb at Home Depot. I just can’t.

    • OsGirl says:

I go occasionally and I’m most definitely not white. I live in DC and there’s always a lot of black people and other people of color there. I actually find it a super inclusive and diverse space.

    • Emily says:

My husband works at Equinox and I was a member. The local staff are equally upset by this. Anyways, my husband is looking for another job.

  21. NYer says:

This is a blow. Blink gyms are a refuge for the starving artist/student/anyone-living-on-a-tight-budget in Manhattan. For $25 a month, you get a no-frills but clean friendly gym. I belong to one that’s two blocks away and it saves my sanity (and my waistline) to be able to get regular exercise, easily and cheaply. I spent an hour online last night trying to find a comparable deal in all of New York City with no luck.

However, I am going to boycott. Because, jeeze, the guy isn’t even supporting that imbecile on ideological grounds (as disturbing as that would be). No, it’s worse – he’s a greedy, mercenary, real-estate developer, willing to watch the country go to hell BECAUSE HE SAVES $ ON TAXES.

    Ugh, this hurts.

  22. NaomiPaige99 says:

I’m sorry, but anybody that I personally know who supports the racist in the WH, has been cancelled.

  23. TheOriginalMia says:

People like Ross think they can separate themselves from Trump’s racism by claiming to only support his tax breaks. It doesn’t work that way. Support a racist and you are a racist.

    • NaomiPaige99 says:

      Agreed!!!!

    • Angry Bird says:

It doesn’t work that way, but he can separate himself from Trump’s racism and the corruption and the destruction of society. He’s got an ivory tower.

  24. Grant says:

MAN, I love my SoulCycle membership but F THAT! I just canceled it.

  25. Arabella says:

On my way to cancel my Equinox membership right now.

  26. adastraperaspera says:

    Boycott his companies! Boycotts work.

While you’re at it, boycott Koch company products too. The Koch brothers own one of the food processing plants that ICE raided yesterday–leaving many children alone with no parents. Of course, their company managers were not arrested for employing undocumented workers in the first place… So unjust. Here is an article that tells you about all the popular brands that the Koch brothers own or are a supply partner in:
    “You’re Funding the Koch Brothers”
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2018/oct/03/kochs-conservative-patagonia-toilet-paper-interactive

    • whatWHAT? says:

“Of course, their company managers were not arrested for employing undocumented workers in the first place”

yup, and as long as things remain that way, they will KEEP HIRING undocumented workers. what impetus is there to stop hiring them and, consequently, the workers to stop coming to the US to seek work?! and the Kochs are some of the biggest GOP donors of all time.

      they hypocrisy is astounding.

    • lucy2 says:

We desperately need to target the employers, not the poor people just trying to survive.

    • adastraperaspera says:

I need to make a correction to my post. Koch Foods–guilty of the Mississippi ICE raid– is not actually owned by the Koch brothers. Here is the wiki for Koch foods:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Foods

That said, I still strongly advocate boycotts of Koch brothers products, if for no other reason than their funding of ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), which is a right-wing front group that writes pro-corporate and libertarian legislation and gives it to GOP legislators to push through state houses across the country.

  27. Aimee says:

I’m really tired of hearing about the f%^&ing economy. Sure, it seems to be doing well and my 401k keeps going up but I’d rather be DIRT POOR than have to deal with this asshole one more day!

    • Darla says:

Oh I’m with you. I am not even sure I totally believe some of the things my friend tells me, sometimes I think she is making excuses for why she is friends with Trumpsters. Shortly after the election I unfriended them all and made it very public that I will not eat with a Trumpster so stop inviting me to dinners. But what my mom told me about her friends? That’s definitely true. Remember how we’re taught money is the root of all evil? Maybe that is true.

  28. Islaink says:

I remember reading a while ago that Busy Phillips’ husband had spent over $30,000 attending Soul Cycle classes. Wonder how he feels today.

  29. Angry Bird says:

His wife Kara Ross is a famous jewelry designer. She posted a picture of rainbow colored flamingos on her IG, crowed some platitude about inclusivity, and turned off comments. Kara Ross started something called unleashed world to help “women entrepreneurs around the world”. It is all BS. Diversity sells, “caring” about black and brown folk sells.
    She’s complicit.

    • Aimee says:

Gee, if my husband was a billionaire I could have my own jewelry/handbag/blah blah blah business too!

    • Darla says:

She’ll never see a penny of my money, and I buy higher end. John Hardy being my favorite. Believe me, I will remember her name.

  30. Thea says:

Sorry Ross but you can’t throw a fundraiser to help elect an openly racist president and say that you are against racism.

The statement from SoulCycle and Equinox was a lot of backpedaling. You can’t say that he’s a passive investor if he owns the company that owns you. And you can’t say that profits don’t go to support 45 (on a side note, I hate trump so much that I have developed a visceral dislike of 45. My pilates teacher told us to lower our legs to 45 the other day and I shuddered and felt gross) when the profits obviously go to investors such as the ceo and chairman who owns the company that owns your company. Sure it doesn’t go directly from soulcylce to 45, it’s first filtered through the company then through Ross then to 45. I think a lot of people are upset because soulcycle says that it’s the antithesis of everything trump is, but then the owner goes and throw him a fundraiser for re-election. You are either fine with a president who incites racism, division, and harm against people or you are not. There’s no grey areas. It would be like saying I hate Hitler and what he does to the Jews, but I love that the trains are time, so I’ll keep supporting him. Nope!

As for SoulCycle, Equinox, Blink, Pure Yoga…guess what there are other workout places. It’s not a hard decision as to whether or not to support these places. They can’t be all about pride one month and then give money to an administration that wants to erase the lgbt+ community. I won’t be going to Momofuku, Milk Bar, Bluestone Lane…no more Hudson yards or Time Warner Center. There are other options that won’t make my soul feel icky.

    YMCA allllll day everyday!!!!!!

Long time employee and member. It’s the best.

“daily operations”?? Who cares? He is the owner and is supporting Trump. N’uff said. #Cancel!

  33. Mar says:

First of all I AM A PROUD MEMBER OF EQUINOX. I have been going for the past 8 years and it has changed my life. Nobody there discusses politics nor do they judge you for who you support . The club supports the gay community like no company I have ever seen- among all people This man is is an investor but he has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than that. He is not part of daily operations nor anything that has to do with the club.

    • Thea says:

No one is arguing that he’s overseeing the day to day operations. But he owns the company that owns Equinox, SoulCycle, Blink, Pure Yoga, Rumble, etc. so the money that you pay those gym fees or classes are lining the pockets of someone who is helping trump’s reelection bid. Equinox, SouCycle, etc proudly support the LGBTQ community, but then their owner (who makes money off of said community) supports administration that is transphobic and homophobic, not to mention racist, misogynistic, and xenophobic.

    • holly hobby says:

He’s taking the profits he got from the consumer (you) and funneling it into his hate party. He may not be in charge of daily operations but he’s benefiting from the profit. So no, I’m not giving my money to this freak show.

    • whatWHAT? says:

hope you’re also PROUD THAT YOUR MONEY IS (indirectly) GOING TO HELP 45’S RELECTION BID.

you think the anti-gay CEO of Chikfilet is making wraps? the 45-supporting CEO of Home Depot is helping people find the right nuts and bolts? the 45-supporting creator of MyPillow is stuffing feathers into linen bags?

don’t be obtuse. as Thea said, no one is saying that he’s overseeing the daily operations of the club you visit. however, you giving $ to Equinox is you giving $ to 45. if you can rationalize giving your $ to 45, however indirectly, that is your decision. if you need to cloak it somehow to make it palatable that your $ is supporting a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic tyrant who puts kids in cages, that’s on you, boo. you do whatever it takes to soothe yourself while knowing where your $ goes.

    • Gobo says:

It doesn’t matter what they say about supporting lgbtq when the actual money you pay is going to bolster a president who does the opposite in terms of legislation. Anything else is just PR.

The chairman of Marvel Entertainment is one of the biggest contributors to the ‘reelect racism’ campaign…super heroes, anyone?

  36. Caty Page says:

I’m Brown. My partner is Brown, as are his adopted siblings. My partner’s brother in law and nieces/nephews are all Brown. The only white people in the family are his parents, who vocally support Trump.

It’s easy to say, “cancel them!” But they’ve been by my side in the hospital when my own mother couldn’t be bothered.

It hurts me to think what their support says about their values. But I also can’t just “cancel” people who have been more generous and kind to me than my own family.

That said, I’m too damn poor for Soulcycle.
