Kourtney Kardashian is Glamour’s Woman of the Year, for reasons

Kourtney Kardashian is the bored Woman of the Year for Glamour Magazine. Glamour’s WOTY issue is focused on “women changing the beauty industry,” from photographers to influencers to stylists to executives. Where does Kourtney Kardashian fit? Well, she’s been trying to get Congress to pass the Feinstein-Collins bill, the Personal Care Products Safety Act, which would update the FDA regulations for the cosmetics industry. Meaning, Kourtney wants more labels, better labels, and warning labels for products which might include certain substances, etc. She just wants the cosmetics industry to be forced to tell people what’s in their products. That’s what Kourtney’s whole WOTY profile is about. I mean, it’s an important issue. But… Kourtney? WOTY? Some highlights from the piece:

Kourtney cares about what’s in her products: “I’ve always been conscious of what’s in my beauty products, but once I had kids, I started caring more about the products they were using… I didn’t think my voice would have mattered, and then I had lunch with the EWG, and they gave me so much information. I had used their app for years to scan products, and see the scores of different things. Once I knew my voice could help make a difference, I was extremely excited to jump on board with them.”

Why Kourtney thinks the issue isn’t taken seriously: “I don’t know if cosmetics regulation has been swept under the rug because the word ‘cosmetics’ makes you think of girls putting on makeup—but it’s so much more than that. It’s all personal care products, from things you use on newborn babies to deodorant, toothpaste, and face wash. They’re things every single human uses at least once, if not multiple times a day. By calling it ‘cosmetics,’ it’s not taken as such a serious issue.”

She wants to do other things too: “I would love to get the cosmetics reform laws passed so I can move on to a different topic. I’m really, really passionate about schools and what they’re feeding kids. To me, there are certain things that shouldn’t even be at kids’ schools. So many of us are living our busy lives and doing the best we can, and so many people don’t have the information to know certain things are healthy or unhealthy for our kids. It especially goes together with school and learning, in my opinion, because you’re feeding your brain.”

There’s also a part of the interview where she talks about her lifestyle site, Poosh, and how she’s learned a lot from doing it and she’s not trying to be Goopy about it. I agree with her on that – someone like Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t want to see the cosmetics or lifestyle/holistic whatever industries more strictly regulated. Someone like Gwyneth thrives on the misinformation and fake science. But yeah, should Kourtney be the face of any of this? I think I fell asleep as I wrote this.

    Oh FFS.

You know what, we drag the Klan left and right, but at least she and Kim are actually making a difference in the world and taking action on issues they believe in. They get my respect on this and I hope Kim and Kourtney can get the other sisters to make more of an effort.

    • Nina says:

They’re not making a difference. They’re coming in and steamrolling causes that hundreds of people have been working on for DECADES and haven’t gained as much attention because those people didn’t make a sex tape and replace all their internal organs and skin with plastic.

  3. Jessica says:

Come on, this is bought and paid for.

  4. VintageS says:

I guess she is a great pick for women changing the beauty industry with all the changes they make to their vapid faces although she is more “natural” than the rest.
I haven’t bought a fashion magazine in years, and this cements not buying any in the future.

Kourtney: “No one is paying attention to me!”

PMK: “Let me make a call……”

  6. Lily says:

Oh, FFS! EWG is a fearmongering BS organisation that talks “toxic” and “safety” yet refuses to hire a single toxicologist or anyone who might actually have basic understanding of science. You’ll get just as much evidence-based information if you asked Goop or any anti-vaxxer or flat-earther. And she’s pushing a regulation based on what they’re telling her?! This is insane, it has got to be some kind of a parody or a joke. Did all your scientists really flee to France?

    • N says:

Thank you. The EWG is not and never been about science. They are there to scare everyone. Sometimes we need parabens!

  7. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Makes perfect sense considering who our president is. We’re living in bizzaroland where everything right is wrong, lies are truths, beauty is manufactured and knowledge discredits. No sir, I don’t like it. Not one bit.

  8. SM says:

Is that because she is now becoming the least altered version of the Kardashian koven?

  9. Ash says:

She is the most boring person on the planet.
