Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds welcomed their third child about two months ago

New York premiere of 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' - Red Carpet Arrivals

We last saw Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds together on a red carpet in May, for the Detective Pikachu premiere (the photos in this post!). At that premiere, Blake had a nice-sized bump and some of us were surprised with how far along she was in her third pregnancy. Then I guess we forgot about it? I honestly haven’t even wondered at any point in the past three months or so about her pregnancy. That’s not a slam on Blake and Ryan at all – for several years now, they can really go undercover for months at a time, or they’ll only make news for something career-wise and not for their marriage. So while it’s surprising to learn that Blake secretly gave birth months ago, it’s not really a huge shock.

And baby makes five! Blake Lively gave birth earlier this summer, welcoming her third child with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, Us Weekly exclusively confirms.

A source tells Us that the baby is “about 2 months old.”

The Gossip Girl alum, 32, revealed in May that she and the Pokémon Detective Pikachu actor, 42, were expecting when she attended the movie’s premiere. The then-pregnant star rocked a bright yellow Retrofête dress on the red carpet that hugged her baby bump.

[From Us Weekly]

Congrats to them – we don’t know if they had a boy or girl, but going from memory, they did that with Inez’s birth too, right? We didn’t know for a while about the name or the gender. Plus… and I really don’t mean this in a nasty way, but people care less after the first baby. We cared about Blake’s first and second pregnancies, but the combination of this one being her third pregnancy AND the fact that Blake disappears for months at a time, well… people truly forgot. I even forgot that Blake and Ryan have actually spaced out the pregnancies well – Inez is 2-and-a-half and James is four-and-a-half. I think they were probably “going for the boy” but if they’ve gotten a third girl, I doubt either of them will be mad about it. As for keeping everything a secret… honestly, good for them. They’re not in our faces and Blake seems super-happy to take a step back and mostly be a stay-at-home mom. They live a mostly private life, so keeping it a secret seems on-brand for them now. Also: I swear, ever since Ryan and Blake married, this is the absolute happiest Ryan has ever been in his life.

    I heard it’s a girl.

And didn’t Ryan say he wanted a family of ‘9 daughters’, cause he had such a negative experience raised with a family of 4 boys?🤷‍♀️

    Anyway congrats to them. 💖
I’m sure the new baby’s as pretty as her sisters.

No to be unkind, but I hope they stop at 3.

    • duchess of hazard says:

@Jagede – yeah, I do hope they stop at three. For the environment’s sake. But I do remember Blake Lively saying that since both were from big families, they didn’t want a small family.

      • Jegede says:

        Not for the environment.

I just find it odd, how Blake was coming off some of the best reviews of her life and then went into pregnancy mode.

I could be off, but it reminds me of the rumors about Ryan & Scarlett and how career ambitions/jealousy, was a factor in their divorce.🤔🤔

      • horseandhound says:

I don’t understand why they, who have a lot of money and can support those children, are told to stop to save the planet and nobody says the problem are the poor people in Somalia, for example, who have a lot of children (6 on average) and then can’t give offer them the basic things a child needs.

      • Eenie Googles says:

Actually there are enough resources for everyone on the planet. They are just distributed unfairly and unevenly.

So enough with this lazy “society needs to stop having babies” narrative: society needs to stop having billionaires and to stop hoarding resources based on privilege.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

        @horseandhound

The average person in the United States uses up 35 times as many natural resources as the average person in India, and comparing the US to Somalia would give an even worse ratio.

A Somalian couple having six kids is MUCH less stress on the Earth than an American couple having one child — and yes, it’s because they’re poor, and that affects what they can provide to their children, but that’s hardly their fault.

So that’s why no one talks about places like Somalia when they talk about population growth and the environment. They’re not the problem; WE ARE.

      • EatTheRich says:

        @horseandhound

Sometimes family is the only thing people have under oppressive systems such as colonialism, racism and capitalism, which you seem to wholeheartedly uphold. We have your name for The Revolution, boot licker.

    • Bookworm says:

I don’t think it’s anyone’s business if they have more than three children. There are plenty of people who plan to have no children. Choice is choice.

      • Kittycat says:

        @bookworm I completely agree

      • Miss America says:

Seriously. It’s no one’s business. If those people are really freaked out, they should just think how the Chinese only have one kid and it’ll all even out. (I’m aware Chinese are now allowed to have two children but culturally & statistically most continue to choose to only have one.) Plus tons of people are choosing to have less, to the point it’s actually disrupting economies and having some serious negative consequences, like Japan’s aging society and the fact that it’s become extremely difficult to finance them with so few in the younger working generations. It’s no one’s business if they want ten kids even. And three is hardly extreme. It’s extremely typical.

      • Bunny says:

Agreed. I hope they have as many children as they wish to have.

More power to them. Not my business. Not anyone else’s either.

    • Meghan says:

I am not a fan of ScarJo so this is probably ALL projection but…. I always got the feeling that she was jealous of his career. Wasn’t he getting more exposure and while he wasn’t taking everything that was thrown at him, he was doing comedy and rom-coms and had some flops under his belt. I always feel like ScarJo wants high-profile, high brow arty films and was upset that him being a doofus was getting more work than she was.

And while I think Blake is content to be a mom with a hot husband and pick up a few acting jobs here and there, I also get the feeling that if she really wanted to do a project but he said “let’s have another baby again” she would say hey let’s wait until after this project.

Again, that could all be nonsense and projection from me!

      • Des says:

can’t stand ScarJo and her “I can play an Ent” self but pretty sure it was the other way around. She had serious buzz when they got together and she’s been working toward the career she has right now for a long time. Word was that Ryan couldn’t handle it.

      • Lena says:

I agree with Des. I’m pretty sure it was Scarlett who had the more prestigious heat at the time and she made pretty pointed remarks about how it wasn’t good for two actors to be together because of professional jealousy. That’s why it was gonna work for her and the French journalist (harhar). I think the reason Ryan has seemed the happiest he’s ever been is because his career is doing the best it’s ever been and I think that’s been his priority honestly. I just wouldn’t be surprised if his career doesn’t slow down because he has 3 kids now but hers does. Because 3 kids under 4 is no joke and I just don’t see him stepping back. I hope I’m wrong.

      • Sarah says:

I think you’re close to one of Scarjo and Ryan’s problems based on reporting by Elaine Lui. Her take was always about professional jealousy being an issue, but that it was Ryan who had difficulty with his wife having a hot career. He wanted to be “the man.” She’s part of the Marvel Universe , has been in a lot of prestige projects and even though I can’t stand her, I admit she’s considered a more successful actor.

I’m more inclined to believe Ryan had a problem with her successful career rather than the other way around because ….. A. We see that Ryan seems super happy now with a wife who is happy taking a backseat and being a homemaker. And B. This is still a super typical male response to a woman having a great career.

A lot of dudes really can’t handle the reality of having a partner they perceive as more successful than them. It threatens their masculinity and makes them feel bad. It’s not rational. Believe it or not I have a friend whose marriage broke up party over that kind of crap. The dude was really unhappy with the progression of his own career and his perception was that his wife was more successful and he kept demanding she leave her job and do something else. It was WILD to see.

    • Lee says:

      @Lena
      Quote everything you said!
I think he was jealous of Scarlett’s career back then and wanted her to slow down and start a family, but she clearly wasn’t ready.
Looks like Blake, on the other hand, is more keen on letting him be the big star of the family and seems happy and content with shooting one or two movies in between pregnancies, at least for now. I heard them repeating they don’t work at the same time and it has worked so far, but as soon as the eldest girl will start going to school that will have to change and I think her career will be paused, not his. He has a movie coming out for Netflix in december, then will start shooting a new one with Gal Gadot and The Rock in six different locations, plus promotion for the 2 movies he’s filmed this year (the one with Salma Hayek and Samuel L. Jackson) and 2 new movie to shoot (Xmas Carol remake and Clue), so his career is definitely on a roll, hers not so much. But as long as she’s fine with that, I think their marriage will last, bc clearly this routine works for them.

    • ennie says:

well, criticizing famous couples for having more children (+3) when there are quite a few people having 10 or more… seems an easy target. Of course it would be nice if some of those kids were adoptions, so I hope that at least they donate a lot to worthy causes.

    • Emily Gilmore says:

This is how my husband was. He grew up with brothers and definitely did NOT want sons. I was a little nervous we’d end up with one but, we ended up with the only pair of sisters in his families lineage. And my husband (and me) loves it.

    • horseandhound says:

@Bread and Circuses: well, if that’s the case then the solution is to take better care of the planet and use the resources more wisely, not to stop having children.
ps. @EatTheRich: I still think people should be responsible when it comes to children…I don’t care if they’re depressed and miserable because of capitalism and whatever, that is no excuse for having so many kids you can’t take care of so you force them to live in poverty and misery. children deserve to live in decent conditions and extremely poor people too often have most children and I think that’s terrible. it’s often not their fault because they’re uneducated, but that’s a real problem. it’s just awful how many people live in dire conditions on this planet.

      • marmalazed says:

At the risk of pointing out what should be extremely obvious, birth control is not readily available/affordable for families living in poverty. The US doesn’t even support international aid groups anymore that provide family planning services in lesser developed nations of they also provide abortions. Many women living in poverty would most certainly opt not to have more children if they had a reliable way to prevent pregnancies.

  2. Mila says:

That last line gave me all the fuzzy feels, I hope they last!

  3. My3cents says:

From what I’ve seen the girls look more like their father.
Think I read somewhere that it’s an evolutionary thing?

  4. Kittycat says:

I would hope this is the happiest Ryan has been in his life!

  5. VS says:

Congrats to them. I wish them all the best!

As long as they don’t turn as Ben & Jennifer and Blake is stepping back because she wants to and not because he wants her to, then they will be fine

    Best of luck!

  6. Donn says:

Congratulations to them. They should have healthy, happy, beautiful, and well taken care of children. What more can you ask for.

  7. MellyMel says:

I’m confused by the comments mentioning Blake “stepping back” career wise. She had a movie come out last year, one coming next year and I just checked, signed for another. She’s clearly balancing being a working mom just fine. I think some of y’all are projecting. Anyways…congrats to them both. Their kids are adorable.

    • StormsMama says:

      Agree @mellymel
      I loved that Adelaide movie
As well as the one with Anna Kendrick (a simple plan? Can’t remember name)
And I know she has another project “in the can”
I think she loves being a mom but also has found a great and healthy balance working on films 😊

      • jenner says:

Yes, I just watched the movie she was in with Anna Kendrick (also blanking on the name). And she was really good!

      • Dazed and Confused says:

A Simple Favor. That movie is fantastic — and the music is so fun. Lively was really great in it. I loved that movie, but I’ve never met anyone else who saw it!!

        I also loved Adelaide.

    • AWID says:

Ah, this is where the all encompassing silencer of “you’re projecting” originates.

Don’t like people recalling facts, accuse them of projecting. Good to clear that up.

Blake Lively made a point of saying during one of those ask me 100 questions interviews that “yes all my eggs are in one basket and I’m happy that way”. Now, where that comes from would be a guess. However, the split of Ryan and ScarJo was covered well enough that we know he likely did have a problem with ScarJo being very successful. Why that was a problem for him is unknown. If she didn’t want kids quickly or a lot of them, and he did, that’s a good reason to part ways. If he’s insecure about a successful wife, that’s his issue to solve and Blake holding herself back happily seems to have fixed that for him. She works, but she’s hardly on the professional level of ScarJo.

  8. MeghanNotMarkle says:

    Congrats to them!

  9. liriel says:

    Congrats.
I know it’s the wrong moment but I was team Blair (and Leighton – the actress) on the gossip girl. I don’t find Blake Lively to be that talented or even that gorgeous (there is something about her face that I don’t find appealing) so I don’t get why’s she’s a A level celebrity.

    • Niaa says:

I completely agree. I was a big GG fan and was so surprised that Blake overshadowed Leighton in terms of fame. Leighton is definitely the better actress and Blair is the reason most people even watched the show even though Serena was set up as the star.

      • liriel says:

Leighton totally overshadowed Blake on the show. She made Blair iconic. Did the Leo/relationships helped Blake? What made her so famous?

      • ParlerBleu says:

        @Iiriel

Yes, I totally agree Leighton outacted Blake in every scene and was the HEART of Gossip Girl. I think you are right that PR had a lot to do with Blake Lively’s success. She dumped Penn Badgley for Leo and made sure to get papped in Italy with him. She got PR for allegedly hooking up with Batfleck when filming The Town. I remember how often her public appearances would get papped and how much attention she would get for not having a stylist and doing it all herself. She has a good publicist and knows how to play the game, which is why she has had staying power despite her mediocre acting skills and the fact that it is a hard ass industry to stay relevant in.

Blake also comes from a showbiz family and had connections which did WONDERS for her career. Leighton Meester actually came from a poor, dysfunctional family I believe, and I believe she had some legal issues with them while she was doing Gossip Girl. Family connections and support in the business can make all the difference.

I still appreciate them both, though. No hate.

      • jenner says:

@ParlerBleu, oooh right, I forgot about the Batfleck rumored hookup….

    • Sof says:

I’m currently finishing the series! At the time I remember my friends and I didn’t understand why Serena was so hyped. As an adult I still don’t get it either, but heard Blake in an interview saying that she was chosen to play that character by the fans of the books who apparently loved her in Sisterhood of the Travelling pants.
As for Leighton, I don’t think she was comfortable in the spotlight.

      • Lee says:

I agree, Leighton seems to prefer doing her thing without too much hype around her. Too bad because I also think she was the more talented one in the GG cast.

      • liriel says:

Probably you’re right. Serena became almost a supporting character and it’s bad people still remember Blair but not the actress. Leighton really sold her character and seemed like a solid actress while Blake was wooden.

    • Lee says:

      @ParlerBleu

You’re right. Pre Reynolds she attended every possible event, she was basically everywhere.

    • Miles says:

Watch A Simple Favor, The Shallows and The Age of Adaline. Blake wasn’t good in gossip girl but she’s a completely different actress now a days. She’s not Oscar level obviously but she is able to carry a movie. In A Simple Favor her presence was missed anytime she wasn’t on the screen. Plus those films were box office successes. Make a studio money and they’ll put you in more movies.

Leighton killed the momentum she had from gossip girl by focusing on her music career and then whatever roles she did choose, weren’t so hot. BUT she’s currently starring on a TV show on ABC so she’s not exactly doing so bad for herself either.

  10. lucy2 says:

I didn’t even really remember they had 2 kids, let alone were having another! They do stay pretty quiet, which is good for their kids.

I finally saw A Simple Favor, Blake was very good in that.

  11. Cupcake says:

He’s from a family with 4 kids and she’s from a family with 5 kids. My guess I they’ll end up with 6 kids! Congrats!

    • Lady D says:

I’m one of four kids. Two of us had 2 children and two of us had one. We were actually talking about it today. So far our six offspring (26-31yo) have had 2 children between them.

  12. tw says:

Great, maybe they can throw a baby shower at a plantation.

  13. smee says:

She looks great in yellow, love the slit in her dress – a sexy pregnancy look!

  14. Charfromdarock says:

    Congratulations to them!

It’s impossible to tell how happy someone is from a few interviews or social media posts. Hopefully for their kids sakes, they are both happy and fulfilled
