Gerard Butler looked great at the ‘Cinema for Peace’ gala: should we re-stan?

Longtime readers of the site might remember back in the halcyon days of the Obama administration (the first term), I had a thing for Gerard Butler. He was my Scottish beefcake, my brogue-y bloke. I loved him despite the fact that he wasn’t a great actor. I liked his hair. I liked how tall he was. He wasn’t everywhere in those days, until suddenly he was – he started getting hired for a steady stream of B-rated action movies and poorly conceived romantic comedies. Then G-But started oversaturating the market a bit and he got a bit annoying. Around that time, he also put on some weight (he had health issues and addiction issues) and honestly, I kind of liked him fluffy, but the weight gain did dampen his sex appeal for many people.

For a while now, G-But only pops up at the odd premiere or film festival, and I’m not sure he’s on people’s radars these days. But maybe he deserves a second look? Because I think he looks GREAT in these photos. Butler was in Berlin for the Berlinale International Film Festival. From the way he posed on the red carpet, I thought Butler was perhaps the host of the event, but no, he was actually being honored for his work with Mary’s Meals charity, which helps fund breakfast/lunch programs in schools in poor communities. So… he’s back to the hotness AND he’s charitable? Well played, G-But.

And I do enjoy a man in a kilt. He looks very slim and healthy these days. He looks younger than his 50 years. Maybe a touch of Botox? Or just clean living? Anyway, I’m putting him back on my list.

I’m a sucker for a Scottish accent, so I’m here for it.

  2. AnnaKist says:

    Och, I can’nae resist a man in a kilt…

  3. Lori says:

The portopotty sex puts him permanently off the list. Sorry nope.

  4. Becks1 says:

    He does look good here.

We just watched Olympus Has Fallen over the weekend it was so bad. SO BAD. Yes, I know, action movies usually require you to suspend some disbelief, but this was awful. And we saw London Has Fallen a few years ago and liked it for what it was -a cheesy action movie – but the first one was so bad.

He looks good here, better than he has in years. He’s a decent actor who is suited to action movies (I loved him in 300), some will say he’s pigeon holed himself but he seems to enjoy making them and it gets him regular work.

      • Becks1 says:

I liked 300 and I liked his movie with Jennifer Aniston – bounty hunter or something?

But Olympus was SO BAD. My husband and I kept looking at each other and thinking, “what is going on??”

      • whatWHAT? says:

I agree he looks much better and less bloated. I wonder if he quit drinking.

  5. Valiantly Varnished says:

He still looks like a smashed potato to me so…no. His moment as a hottie was fast and fleeting

    • Grant says:

I think his hotness was assisted by the Zach Snyder “Disney Princess” filter that Snyder used in filming 300, along with all of the wet lube the beefcake actors were doused in.

    Should we re-stan?

    No….

  7. manta says:

I never got on the stan wagon but found him a rather good actor.
I was impressed by his turn in Coriolanus, enjoyed Rocknrolla (Guy Richie can got it right sometimes) and the surf movie.
I’m not the right target for romcoms or action/catastrophe movies so wouldn’t know he fared in them.
His name only wouldn’t drag me in a theater but with an interesting project I’d definitely check some of his work.

  8. Flying Fish says:

He is looking good, but re-stan…nope!

  9. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I’d take a sip of that hot toddy.

  10. Sass says:

Always thought he was hot and wondered where he went. I stan

  11. Mich says:

He lost his key to Stanville when it became abundantly obvious that he was a complete sleazeball who treated women like garbage. So I’m gonna go with “no”.

  12. westcoastbestcoast says:

I would break him I’d hit it so hard. Port-o-potty or not, you can’t debate it would probably be A LOT of fun!!!

I just rewatched phantom of the opera and he is so good in it. His singing is ok but you can feel his every emotion. Sooooo good. Everyone in it is a no.

Kaiser, You & i have very similar taste in men. Like you i also am shamefully attracted to Diplo, and i too had a thing for Gerard back in the mid-late aughts; then my crush went away….And yes i think he is looking hot again. He always seemed like a decent guy to me, he’s very funny in interviews, I absolutely loved him in Phantom of the Opera and 300, and good for him for his work with this charity.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Difference between him and Diplo is when you wring him, there’s no puddle of grease. 😃

  15. Velvet Elvis says:

He looks freaking amazing but I admit that I loved him when he was beefier. I’ve seen his movie Den of Theives about 50 times, when he was in the throes of his fat phase and I thought he was really hot.

  16. LeLe says:

I saw some recent photos of him at the Oscars to support that animation movie, can’t think of the name right now, and he looked gawd awful. I didn’t even recognize him. Looked like he was definitely on something and probably not alcohol. Made me sad when I saw the caption saying who it was. All I could think was my goodness what has he been through in the last 5 or so years? In these photos he looks a little better but I’d wager to bet he’s got some serious addiction battles going on. He needs to get away from Hollywood and anyone associated with it, he’s obviously surrounded by enablers. Get some help GBut!

  17. clairej says:

Back in the day he was soooo hot. Think it was Letters To Frankie – he blew my mind. But went down that road Colin Farrell fell down for a while, but Colin is so talented he got back up.

  18. LondonGal says:

Can confirm in the flesh he is SUPER masc and tall and broad and smells nice, hug feels all manly and solid and his eyes are like a cat’s; all lightest green.

    BUT

He seemed to be not sober and was ‘King’ of a very rowdy male ratpack and it was all a bit odd. This was in 2010 though, maybe his GF has calmed him down. Godo, if so, he is very talented imo, when in the right vehicle to showcase it.

  19. Dani says:

Watch PS I Love You. Thank me later. He’s still gorg.

  20. detta says:

He looks better here than he has in a while. However, in which world does he look younger than 50? I know quite a few men over 50 who actually look younger than Butler does here and they have never had any Botox or procedures or whatever. It is absolutely doable to age and look like this without chemical or surgical help. This is the face he has boozed and partied with, and to me he looks his 50 in a not-badly-tempered-with way. Which, don’t get me wrong, is perfectly fine.
