Brad Pitt on Today Show: is he running for New Orleans mayor?

Ann Curry sat down with Brad Pitt for yet another exclusive interview this morning in a pre-taped piece from New Orleans. Brad was in New Orleans last Friday with sons Pax and Maddox, so I would assume that’s when he did the interview. I’m a little shocked Ann Curry got the “get” from Brad again, considering there were rumors he was none too happy about her Brangelunatic fondling during their interview in Cannes this year. Still, Brad likes to do dual promotion when his films come out – he often brings Ann or whoever else to New Orleans so that he can bring some focus to Make It Right NOLA as well as whatever film he’s promoting.

This interview was a lot like the others Brad has done in New Orleans. Brad gave Ann a tour of the lower 9th Ward, where the Make It Right homes are going up. Ann’s voiceover also claims that some world-class architects (like Frank Gehry) have signed on to make some of the homes for the project. Brad says that the lower 9th Ward is now “the greenest neighborhood in America”. Ann tries to push Brad into saying rich people should be giving up their money big time, but Brad shoots it down, saying, “Really, I don’t know what people’s personal situations are so I hesitate to even speak about it.” Ann keeps going, and Brad hedges, “Listen! We’ll take donations! I’ll use them. Make it Nola dot com. Oh! Dot org! I‘ll take them, I don‘t want to discourage people.” Meanwhile, Ann jokes, “Get it right!” and tries to touch him again. Crazy Brangelunatic.

Then Ann asks Brad if he’s “seen the t-shirts”. She’s referring to the “Brad Pitt for Mayor” t-shirts that someone in new Orleans has been making and selling. There’s been a movement the past year or so within new Orleans that Brad should run for mayor in 2010. Brad confirms that’s he’s seen the t-shirts, and he laughs.

Ann asks, “If chosen, would you run?”

Brad replies: “Yeah, yeah… yeah….I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform.”

Ann: “Okay…” She then keeps asking.

Brad: “I don’t have a chance… I don’t have a chance, that’s my answer.”

After that, Ann manages to get personal, although Brad seems uncomfortable. She asks him about the Parade interview, where Brad talked about what love meant to him, that it was about putting the interests of his family before his own. Brad says, “I stand by that… someday it won’t always be there, so…I don’t look forward to that day, so… it comes with it, the greater the love, the greater the loss.” Dude. This was a little heavy for this early in the morning.

Ok WTH was that at the end?! “The greater the love, the greater the loss”? The tabloids are going to run with that for weeks. Something is going on with them. You don’t give an answer like that when everything is fine, it seemed very strange to me.

  2. Firestarter says:

Okay, I know I will get a cyber beat down for this, but I think that after being on the fence for years with Pitt, and one time liking him very much, I now think I officially hate him.

Oh, and I hate Ann Curry too.

  3. yuck says:

Firestarter thank you. I thought I was the only one not being fooled by him. Why is he always in New Orleans with Ann Curry when he has a movie to promote? I feel like i am the only one that notices him using New Orleans when it’s good for him. Do we hear about him being in Nola when he doesn’t have something to promote? Do we hear about Steven Bing the guy who put up half the money for MIR? what about the builders ? Brad is just the face of MIR and he uses it to his benefit every time he has a movie coming out. It’s gross.

as for the greater the love the greater the loss quote? not the first time he said it. The parade magazine was pretty much a rehash of everything he said during the promo of Benjamin Button. (I can’t believe I was actually fooled into watching that movie. ) To me it seems like he is obsessed with the fact that he is going to lose Angelina and his kid… like they’re going to vanish into thin air.

  4. Kaiser says:

CB- It was strange. I have no idea why he said that. I have no explanation.

  5. justathought says:

Love the architect of these homes and that they are green, energy efficient and unobtrusive. A big high five to Pitt and his team! Maybe someone can “make it right” for Galveston. Ike did havoc on that beautiful but forgotten Island.

  6. Celebitchy says:

Is he thinking about his own mortality or is there more to those split rumors? I’m thinking they’re having serious problems and he’s ruminating on it. You don’t answer a question about love by saying that you’ll lose it someday. Maybe he means his kids in a way, though, as I know I love my son so much it hurts sometimes, and it’s like you feel the loss from how deep the love is… it’s weird but that’s all I can come up with. (My husband too, it’s just my son seems more fragile because he’s a kid.) I don’t know, that was just so strange that he said that.

-edit- you can tell he’s really excited about this project and I loved when he explained how cheap the utility bills are!

  7. Kaiser says:

CB – Maybe he’s just dumb, and he was trying to talk about how much his family means to him, and it came out like he was planning to kill them all?

  8. Firestarter says:

LOL@Kaiser! I think you may have something there, about him being dumb, that is.

  9. Praise St. Angie! says:

yeah, what kind of answer is that?

“I don’t look forward to that day” as if he knows it’s coming?

not “I wouldn’t look forward to that day” which would indicate he realizes that it’s always POSSIBLE that love can end, but “I don’t” as if he knows it’s going to? could be he’s just not that articulate.

maybe he was just acknowledging that, eventually, the kids will be grown and moving out?

  10. Firestarter says:

And I know this will get me cyber yelled at too, but maybe he wouldn’t be so obsessed with losing his family if he wasn’t so full of hate for religion.

I am not a terribly religious person, but it just seems to me that religion does comfort you in situations and gives peace (not everyone, but to some) to your soul.

  11. Rita says:

I think it ties in with him saying he has not had to deal with death and does not know how he will handle it after after going thru the death of Angelina’s Mom with her. Brad has made this exact statment before in interviews in the past couple of years, this is not new. He also keeps saying his greatest fear is the safety and health of Angelina and the kids, it keeps him up at night. Brad was just expressing his worries. That’s what happens when things in your life are the best ever and you don’t want to lose it.

  12. nnn says:

    ——————
He explained that once during the TCCOBB. It’s related to death.

He said that he never experienced the death of someone close and that he can’t live without them and that his biggest fear was for Angie or one of his children dying or for him dying prematuraly and being deprived of their presence, not being able to see them long enough on earth.

  13. vicsmith says:

Dumb, dumb, dumb. He shouldn’t speak in public.

  14. DonnaInMichigan says:

Why should Brad try to get his rich friends to help put up $$ for his Make it Right foundation, when he’s trying to get TAXPAYERS money??

    Read it here:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ted-johnson/brad-pitts-foundation-see_b_243841.html

FREE MILLIONS, that Brad will NEVER have to pay back!

  15. alex says:

Rita, that is exactly what I think I as well. But of course others would take it a different way and turn it into something else

I love my family so much that I don’t know what I would do if I loss them and that worry me a whole lot. So I understand what Brad is saying.

I have to say though there is a lot of hate oh here today and life is to short for all the hating

  16. Ursula says:

I said it on another thread, in the past he did not seem this dumb. Somehow, in the last couple of years, he is like the dumbest person I know. I even heard someone describing him as, this dumb guy who is dating Angelina Jolie, and am not jocking. Maybe he is drinking a lot and taking too much Marijuana.

Clearly there is something not right in his relationship with Angelina, but I guess the fear of people clapping their hands in glee when they split is what keeps them together.

  17. rop says:

I don’t think he sounds dumb just evasive, like always. He dodges everything with lame answers. I’d rather him say he doesn’t want to answer than spouting off something lame. The lameness is a huge reason why everyone pounces on his every word. Answer the question or quit giving interviews where everything is fair game.

  18. nnn says:

I don’t think he sounds dumb just evasive, like always.
    ———————————-
    I totally agree with this.

  19. alex says:

Ursula, do you really think that Brad or Angie give a damn what you say or anyone of us say about them? It is rather ridiculous that you think they only staying together because of fear of people clapping with happiness if they break up. I am truly amaze of the level of stupidity in some people

Now I have a life I must go too

  20. Ursula says:

No, I disagree, he sounds dumb like a box. Tom Cruise is evasive, for all his problems he does not come off as dumb, just cocky and full of himself. Brad sound dumb, period. His problem is that he does not realise that he is dumb and tries hard to be clever. That is a no no for dumb people. It makes them look even dumber. He should give less interviews and since Curry is a loonies, let him be given the answers by someone during the interviews. His poor kids are going to have to put up with dumb jokes about their father.

  21. Rita says:

“What occurred to me on this film, and also with the passing of her mother [actress Marcheline Bertrand in 2007], is that there’s going to come a time when I’m not going to get to be with this person anymore. I’m not going to get to be with my children anymore. Or friends, people I love and respect. And so, if we have a flare-up, it evaporates now.”

Brad Pitt, Rolling Stone, January 2009

    http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/24958066

  22. TaylorB says:

I can’t say if he is dumb or not, but he certainly doesn’t seem to think before he speaks… or he did a wake-n-bake before the interview.

  23. rop says:

Tom Cruise? That is your example. Are you forgetting the Matt Lauer interview? He was so tripped up on his own words and thoughts. Couch jumping with Oprah? What intelligent person does that. There really isn’t anything in the interview for him to sound dumb about, I mean they aren’t talking about neurosurgery or nuclear physics.

I am the furthest thing from a Pitt fan. I just don’t see it.

  24. Rita says:

Brad is not and has never been the most articulate or comfortable person to interview. He does not sit still, he fidgets, sometime he paces, same as he does in part 1 of this interview (part 2 is next week). He often makes reference to the fact that in MO where he grew up people did not talk much, they let their actions speak for them. I think he really loves those in his life at this time and is maybe afraid of any possible future loss. Nothing to indicate any problems between he and Angelina. With all the bad news in the world these days people should be hoping that a family of 8 makes it against the odds. JMO

  25. Rita says:

Firestarter, Brad never ever said he hated religion, not once. Where are you getting that complete lie from? Agnostics question, they do not hate. Where in the world do you get your news from?

  26. yuck says:

    Los Angeles Times / January 2, 2009
    Reed Johnson

“It’s a tragedy in the sense that any love involves loss, and that’s the risk you take,” Pitt responds. “And the greater the love, the greater the loss. I certainly feel that now with the woman I’m with, and the children that I have. But whatever the course may be, this time together is extraordinary.”

this was for Button. even back then The way he says it , it’s like he thinks they’re gonna die or something. lol

  27. Firestarter says:

Rita- I am just making it up so I can impugn his good name. Glad you called me out on my lies and misinformation,

  28. nnn says:

I am sorry but Tom Cruise is not evasive, he is straight up a loonie who disrespects women for taking painkillers to treat post partum depression and he is nasty with every wife he is about to divorce.

He did it with Mimi Roger, spitting very hurtfull words that no woman should ever endure, about her not being able to conceive cause she was too old for him, then he did it to Nicole, spitting nonsense about not being the father of the child she misscarriaged, ect.

Tom Cruise is nasty and a moron who has often lost his mind publicly and acts straight up weird with his sciento religion.

Brad Pitt is evasive. Some may think he is dumb but maybe it’s because they can’t grasp his evasiveness or his sybilin way of expressing himself.

Everyone decent comprehend that Cruize behaviour and sometimes spouting sciento related nonsense is straight up dumb.

  29. Ursula says:

Alex, sorry but just because someone does not drink the Brangelina Kool aid, she should be insulted. Brad has not made one intelligent comment in the last 3-4 years, go back and read his interviews, they are all cringe worthy. Maybe he has always had a low IQ and it is magnified because he is the most over publicised celeb at the moment. I have nothing against him, if anything, I feel sorry for him. He is stuck with a mad woman and 6 children and his life is passing by while he convinces himself that he is happy and he is with is soulmate. 10 years from now he will be dealing with hormonal teenagers, an aging narcissist ex girlfriend who is no longer getting work. Maybe he will do a reality show. I wonder if he realises that much as he loves his children,he got himself in a situation that is going to create for him misery. He already looks miserable. No happy person drinks that much.

  30. Fat Elvis says:

“I am truly amaze of the level of stupidity in some people”

    Oh, the irony.

  31. anonymous says:

    HATE brad. What a dbag.

  32. nnn says:

How do we know Pitt drink THAT much ? he is only seen drinking socially at events.

Unlike his past life where he and his then wife were drinking heavy alcohol and smoking pot left and right. Reports still do exist about their recurrent boozing and smoking marijuana and he acknowledeged it.

A times where he was lying on his couch and spent two yearsin therapy. Unlike today where he can still take a car with six kids in his back and do his professional obligations without appearing drunk.

I would say that he drinks much more less than during his marriage. He also stopped smoking things he souldn’t smoke since he is with jolie as he admitted. So yes, he was plainly miserable before Jolie considering the amount of alcohol and drugs he use to ingest with Jen.

  33. Firestarter says:

nnn- Nothing wrong with partaking of the herb.

And exactly, how do YOU know how much he and Aniston smoked, drank etc.. Where are these “reports” and admissions on his part that they partied hardy?. I mean why is it when someone gets mad at another on this site over Brad, they always resort to “Well, when he was with Aniston he smoked pot, cigarettes, blah, blah, blah” Seriously, what is the big deal if he drinks, doesn’t drink, the big deal should be that he is a moron.

  34. Praise St. Angie! says:

“So yes, he was plainly miserable before Jolie considering the amount of alcohol and drugs he use to ingest with Jen.”

most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard. (today, anyway.)

plenty of people, secure and happy in their own life and relationship, smoke pot. and he himself admits to how much beer he drinks.

why would he make a crack about being on the “legalization and taxation of marijuana platform” if he wasn’t still taking a toke now and then?

  35. jeannified says:

Good on ya, NNN…couldn’t stand Jen Aniston, and am SO glad he moved on to Angie and has a family now!

  36. Toe says:

Sheesh….some really shallow people on Celebitchy today. Looks like that time of the month. Even though “Rita” put a link on her comment, people still bash him.
The audacity to compare him to Tom Cruise??? those people must be smoking and drinking BIG time…

  37. Cheyenne says:

“Ann asks, “If chosen, would you run?”
Brad replies: “Yeah, yeah… yeah….I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform.””
    ******************************************

LOL ROTFLMBAO!!! The dumb ones are Ann Curry and anybody else who seriously believes Brad Pitt is planning on running for anything. He was bullshitting Curry and she fell right into it.

  38. Mairead says:

I actually agree with some (some) of Ursula’s points. But more so Rita’s. He’s always fidgety, evasive and giving strange, inarticulate answers to questions (match made in heaven with Aniston on that score).

We’re only noticing it it now as he didn’t do that much public works in the past and we have quotes and excerpts flung at us from all tabloid sources through gossip blogs, which we didn’t have even 5 years ago. So we’re getting to hear more of him now, I think.

    (POSSIBLE SPOILER)
That is a bloody odd thing to say at an interview though. Ok, if it is to do with death, I get the point of it being at the forefront of his mind during Benjamin Button, becauase the character had to physically separate himself from the love of his life and his daughter until he could barely recognise her anymore.

But now? Tarantino just doesn’t do poignancy. Unless the Time Traveller’s Wife is putting it in mind again, but that’s feckin’ reaching surely?

  39. crash2GO2 says:

He sounds like a bunch of other people I know his age, dealing with a difficult marriage/whatever, children, and coming to terms with his own mortality. Only he gets to do with in front of millions of people while being asked probing questions.

At least he doesn’t whine about living in an ‘unfair fishbowl’.

  40. hello! says:

“I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization of marijuana platform.” That’s a very funny comment! I love how the rocket scientists here criticize Brad for being dumb. He’s certainly more clever than any of you. Most of you can’t even think of a clever way to slam him, so you resort to childish name-calling. You just make yourselves look bad, not Brad.

  41. Rita says:

Mairead, the interview today was only a partial one, part 2 will be shown on Today next week, and many times they edit comments out of context to make sure to leave a hook for the next part. So maybe in part 2 the overall sequence of the interview will be more logical. You are right that Brad seldom gave interviews in the past, very different from today. 2 main differences are that he has no publicist now for 2 years and he is passionate about MIR. So more interviews and more comments of his to be discussed and dissected in blogs. That is the life of a celeb these days.

  42. Rita says:

crash2GO2, the only thing Brad (and Angelina) ever complain about is the paps constant harassment of their kids. They both acknowledge they are in the entertainment business and paps are a part of their lives. You may be 100% correct in that at age 45 Brad has come to terms with some of the realities of life. He did say on the RC in LA Monday nite that maybe “he is old and grumpy” in response to an interviewer saying he is so candid in his comments these days.

  43. princess pea says:

It’s understandable that he’d be thinking about his OWN mortality. What’s weird in his phrasing is that he seems to be talking about his life continuing without the family. So he’s expecting them all to die before he does? It’s not impossible, but it’s really not statistically likely that a younger wife and six children would all die ahead of him. I don’t think it means anything deep, but it’s weird.

  44. Charity is Chic says:

I look forward to seeing what the Brangeloonies have to say when these two break up. “It’s all Jennifer Aniston’s fault.” “The media drove them apart.” It was the paps, the haters, Ann Curry.” “Their love was just too strong to survive.”

    LOL

  45. Alex says:

He’s a moron? Next to Paris Hilton, douchebag Ryan Reynolds, John Mayer, Lindsay Lohan, ‘Speidi’… (the list could go on and on and on) the man is an eloquent genius!

And I’m not even ‘Team Brad’. I just can’t stand the vapid, ignorant, inarticulate so-called celebrities that see to be everywhere.

And Pitt was on a Canadian show called ‘Holmes on Homes’ (Mike Holmes ROCKS!) that featured his work in New Orleans and no, he didn’t have a movie to promote so that’s not the only time he shows up in New Orleans.

  46. Lys says:

  48. DD says:

    ooo can I weigh in?
Cheyenne you and your chum Brad are just fooling the world aren’t you. Anne Curry and us lame ducklings didn’t get the inside joke, just between the two of you wink wink.
Anyhow this interview is just more recycled material from his Benjamin Button days, I don’t think there is a point to pretend there is something behind these old remarks.

  49. vicsmith says:

I agree with Ursula. He really thinks he’s clever and convinced we are all taken with him. That’s just proves how really dumb he is.

  50. whatever says:

From charity needs a life: “I look forward to seeing what the Brangeloonies have to say when these two break up. “It’s all Jennifer Aniston’s fault” blah, blah, blah” ***** AND, I look forward to seeing what YOU will do when Brangelina splits up, too. You’d probably cackle in mad glee, then get on your broom and fly away.

  51. Cheyenne says:

To #49: sorry I hit a raw nerve, but seriously now, don’t blame me if you fall for all the bullshit you read on this blog or anywhere else.

Angie has said several times that Brad has a wicked sense of humor. If you’re too dumb to get that he was putting Curry on and you fell for it just as she did, that’s your problem, not mine.

  52. Charity is Chic says:

To whatever, only if I can borrow St. Angie’s broomstick.

  53. raven says:

Maybe he was in NOLA with the film because that is the only way he can get the brain-dead media to the city to film what is going on with Make It Right. He and others have worked very hard on this and it’s screwed up to think that he did it to make a lifestyle accessory.

As far as his brains or lack thereof, he was six hours away from his college degree when he dropped out of school to go to Hollywood.

The last comments made no sense to me either but he was probably sick of the damned interview and said anything just to end it.

  54. Firestarter says:

Sorry No religion, but Southern Mo may be full of bible thumpers, but racist and inbred it is not. Spew your hate elsewhere

  55. DD says:

Cheyenne I just think you sound like a loser stating the obvious and acting like you’re the only one who gets it.

  56. whatever says:

Sorry Charity, Angie doesn’t let “uncool” losers use her broomstick. But, hey, maybe if you are good, Angie can teach you her magic spells, so men won’t run screaming away from you, as they usually do.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Break Up

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are reportedly done. While Angelina was in New York for the “A Place In Time” screening, Brad Pitt was back in L.A. with the children. While this isn’t unusual for a Hollywood couple, according to the Chronicle, Life and Style mag reports,

“The whole time Angie was away from Brad, she felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.”

“She told me, “I’m looking forward to having that freedom.”

As for Jolie’s confession to her friend regarding her relationship with Brad?

Jolie reportedly said: “It’s over … It wasn’t meant to be.”

When a hot girl becomes single, I would usually rejoice in harmony about the fantasy of having a chance, but in Angelina Jolie’s case, I wouldn’t even want one. Jennifer Aniston is a much better fit for Brad Pitt and I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up back together.

  58. crash2GO2 says:

    Rita,

Certainly paps harassing your children is complain worthy. I do recall reading something about that.

To all who are questioning his intelligence, as a teacher, there are many different kinds of intelligence. Just because you have a learning disorder, or do not come across as articulate in an interview, does not make you stupid. Brad has proven himself a very talented actor, and you can’t do that without smarts.

As for his strange comments, if he and Angelina end up not making it, I can only imagine how this will effect the children. Perhaps he scared to death of them taking sides, as often happens. Before anyone slams me, I’m just indulging myself in a moment of wild speculation here.

  59. Lys says:

What a wonderful major he would be! With a mistress, taking marijuana, making faces to look intelligent, lying, cheating, getting drunk …

  60. Mikunda says:

Geez, leave the guy alone – like he once said it himself – he is just an actor! He is not some PhD genius or a rocket scientist – why would he need to be, anyway? He is a great actor, he always makes very good choices when it comes to his movies, he has made a difference both when it comes to Charities and New Orleans. Isn’t that enough? Who does he have to be to meet your uber expectations? He is a good man.
