Gigi Hadid dips her French fries in mashed potatoes: the best potato hack ever?

newsstand-cover-gigi

Gigi Hadid covers the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The photos are beautiful, but I find both of the Hadid sisters so photogenic. If anything, I think Bella is more photogenic, honestly. Bazaar has been doing this really annoying thing for their celebrity profiles recently and I hate it: they get the subject’s friends to submit questions to the magazine and the cover subject answers those questions, with zero follow-up. And most of the questions are along the lines of “remember when we hung out that time” and “why are you so awesome” and “do you like French fries?” For the love of God, hire an actual journalist to conduct a real interview. You can read Gigi’s cover story here. Some highlights:

SERENA WILLIAMS: You are exactly the same person I knew when you were 16. How have you remained so humble, loving, and down-to-earth?
GIGI:
I think that I’ve always seen myself the same. Although I’ve had dreams come true and gotten to experience so much, my inner dialogue has always been one of self-reflection and keeping integrity as my main focus in everything I do. I also give a lot of credit to the fact that I’m a Taurus, whether that has anything to do with it or not … Haha … But I’ve always felt a connection to when people say that a Taurus is at peace with the timing of the earth. I trust that everything we go through, good or bad, is for the better. I try to see the good in people first and remember that everyone is continuously trying to grow and do their best.

KENDALL JENNER: What has living on your farm taught you?
GIGI:
The farm has really made me remember, and bring back to my life, my most simple pleasures. It’s allowed me to fill my days off with the little things that make me happy, like art, gardening, yoga, cooking, being outside, and spending time with my loved ones and animals without having to worry about things like what I’m wearing or how my hair looks, or being photographed or seen that day. Being away from the city and the public eye makes me feel like a kid again, and that freedom has been really healing for me.

KACEY MUSGRAVES: What’s one thing you haven’t done yet that you’re dying to do? What are you most scared of?
GIGI:
I skydived once, in Dubai. The actual jumping out of the plane is scarier than the falling. The view is the best part. I always told myself that if I did it again, I’d do it in a different place every time, because that perspective is one of a kind and unforgettable. It still terrifies me, which is why I want to do it again. It’s exhilarating, and I’m more of a sports-based risk-taker than anything else in life. I’d love to visit New Zealand or Iceland one day, so maybe I’ll do it in one of those places—if they allow skydiving.

ANTONI POROWSKI: Please explain how/when you discovered french fries with mashed potatoes as a thing to eat.
GIGI:
I don’t remember exactly what night this was, but it was probably after a few passion fruit martinis at Le Chalet at L’Avenue at Saks, which makes my favorite mashed potatoes on the planet. We must have run out of ketchup, so I dipped the fries in the mashed potatoes—and eureka!

Mashed potatoes with French fries? Okay, I’m intrigued. I love them both, so why not try them together? Sh-t, I could really go for some mashed potatoes right now. What was I saying? As, yes, Gigi. I mean, the interview is what it is – a complete bore of no real f–king questions. I’m not saying Gigi should face some grand inquisition, but if she’s going to be on the cover of a major magazine, I would at least hope to find out about her back-on relationship with Zayn, or something new about her street style or her damn politics in an election year.

“How have you remained so loving and down to earth?” Stop. It reminds me of questions asked to athletes after a game. Are you happy you won? Like come on. I have very little patience with any nepotism model, and I include the Hadids in that category as well. They are all boring and vapid. Also, French fries dipped in gravy or milkshakes are the only way to go.

my eyes are rolling so far back in my head with that quote

    • Original Jenns says:

You’re the greatest! **giggle** No, you’re the greatest! *giggle* Gag. Celebrities need to realize that treating each other like special beings gets old IMMEDIATELY.

  2. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

The mashed-potatoes-and-chips sounds like the drunk cooking I attempted at university. Peas and custard, and spaghetti with burnt shallots and raspberry jam, all sounded like good ideas at the time.

  3. Alexandria says:

I’ve done this before. You can also dip fries in ice cream or chocolate sauce 😋

Wendy’s fries into a Frosty. I don’t know who discovered that, but it was a thing in high school.

But I’m skeptical that as a model, she’s ordering fries and mashed potatoes.

      • Original Jenns says:

YES!!! Frosty fries! I would love that right now. And I too call NOPE on her ordering all that starch in one meal.

  4. Michael says:

I am a fan of both Gigi and Bella but this interview was pointless. The questions were such softballs they were not worth asking

Confession: I do think she’s a decent editorial model. I think she looks good in most pictures and has really striking eyes. Her sister and she are also among the less annoying of the nepotism models, and I suspect that has a lot to do with their mother. Yolanda is by far one of the most sedate and work-focused members of the Real Housewives shows from what I’ve seen.

My slightly gross fry dipping thing is ranch dressing. Love the little kick it gives to them. Still not as weird as the thing my friend does that puts me off most – dipping fries in mayonnaise.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@Chips and mayonnaise are God-given nuggets of delight and I defy anyone to prove that they aren’t!!!

    • minx says:

I like Gigi as a model, I think she has her own unique look.

    • Ali says:

French fries are good dipped in ranch, honey mustard, vinegar, ketchup and even that special sauce at Zaxby’s that will also clean your penny if you drop it in some lol.

Oh, I really want some hot crispy salty fries right now.

      • Veronica S. says:

Oh yeah, I’m a huge fan of hot sauce and vinegar on fries, too.

I ordered Arby’s for my mom and I earlier (WE HAD THE GUY LEAVE IT AT THE DOOR AND TIPPED HIM WELL DON’T WORRY), and it was a real struggle bus not to order fries because of this post lol. I RESISTED.

Of course, now I’m making brownies with homemade cocoa cream cheese icing, so it’s not like I’m doing great by my body anyway. 😂 It’s a good thing I have exercise equipment.

  6. Jules says:

How can anyone read this and answer these questions seriously? They bring self-absorption to new heights.

  7. Nao says:

Yes, I’m suuuure potatoes are on her personal menu. 🙄

  8. abbynormal says:

A fine dining (but relaxed) resto in Chicago has (or had) as one of its courses french fries that you dip in vanilla ice cream. Both are a bit fancified. Chef was doing a take on his toddler’s fave: dipping her fries in a Wendy’s frosty. They were outrageously good.

  9. Kylie Jenner’s Toe says:

Meh… this isn’t a hack, I’ve been doing the fries thing since I was a kid but i do it even more delicious…Fries dipped in mashed potatoes and brown gravy!!!

  10. Leducduswaz says:

This is literally how my dad taught me to eat KFC mash and gravy in the mid 80s. Been doing it ever since.

  11. Rachel says:

Gigi face sort of resembles la young Shannon Doroghty….

  12. T says:

Fries dipped in mashed potatoes with gravy. Soooo delicious.

  13. Mellie says:

I actually think she is the better model of the two, but I don’t mind either one of them. They actually look like models, unlike some (i.e. Sophia Ritchie…ugh).

  14. clairej says:

Gigi is gorgeous. I just have trouble with Bella. She can look good, but I find only really has one look. Plus she has a completely different face to the one she had a few years ago which I feel is a bit like cheating when you are a model. Both streaks ahead on talent compared to Kendall.

  15. Kimberly says:

fries and gizzard gravy is awesome…..mash potatoes seem redundant…
