Ariana Grande reveals her natural wavy hair: was she wearing wigs this whole time?

I’m half Indian, which means that I really don’t have to do much to my hair. I dye it and that’s it. I don’t even blow-dry it. I’ve never had extensions or a weave. So I don’t actually know how most of this stuff works! I’ve learned some stuff from watching celebrities and royals and reality stars. But here’s a question: does Ariana Grande just wear wigs whenever she’s in public? I mean, even in candid “street style” moments, she’s always had long, pin-straight hair, usually held up in a high ponytail. But now I’m wondering if it was always a wig? No, right? It’s more likely that she just had tons of extensions, hairpieces and then she just straightened and dyed her real hair, right? Maybe.

Anyway, I’m questioning Ari’s wigs and weaves because she posted this photo of her “natural” quarantine look. A lot of women have been posting tweets and IGs about how worried they are about not being able to get their hair done for months. I’m sure many women will go grey, or finally see their natural hair color for the first time in years. I’m sure many women will be giving themselves haircuts (I’m tempted to do it too). But in Ari’s case, it looks like her quarantine look is just… taking out the extensions and not straightening her hair? Or was it as easy as just removing a wig? She looks cute, for what it’s worth. She always looks so different without a high pony, that’s what’s throwing me off.

It seems like her wavy hair was just pulled into a fake pony.

    • Kimberly says:

yup, she just flat-ironed her hair and stuck added a bag of hair to it.

    • eto says:

Yeah her pony was pretty obviously fake – the tell-tale wrapping of hair around the base always gives it away.

    • Nahema says:

She’s talked loads about struggling with her real hair being frizzy, fine and brittle, so she wears clip in pony’s or extensions.

  2. KLO says:

She has joked numerous times about wearing a fake ponytail. Even mentioned it in a song and made a sketch on the tonight show :)

  3. boobra says:

beautiful 👍 more relaxed, more mature

  4. Silver Charm says:

I’m more interested in seeing an Instagram face without makeup…

  5. girl_ninja says:

She’s a pretty Italian girl with wavy locks.

  6. PhD gossip says:

Duh! You guys have it backwards. The wavy hair is a messy wig.

    • Kate says:

I’m not hating on Ari, she looks great but there’s nothing natural going on in that pic. And yeah for sure that could be just a different hair piece. When it’s done right it’s hard to tell real hair from fake.

    • hunter says:

      agreed, it’s super thick.

    • Lou says:

Not a wig. Have you seen pics of her from when she was younger? She has big wavy dark hair.

  7. Grant says:

I like her wild mane! She looks lovely. I forgot how much I loved her Giambattista Valli Grammys dress. Just beautiful!

  8. Jem says:

I think she looks stunning with those dark curls! She’s said that when she was on that tween show her hair was totally ruined so I think that’s why she’s supplemented with the ginormous ponytail and natural hair dyed to match.

I am WAY too old to know this information.

    • Christina says:

Lol! Me too, Jem! I remember that. She said that she wore fake ponytails to keep her hair from the stress of styling because she’d “ruined it” previously. So, yes, Kaiser, it’s been fake the whole time, but she was open about it from the get-go. Very Dolly Parton of her.

I too have pretty easy to manage hair, but mine is wavy. I’d be bald if I were in show biz, though, or I’d wear a wig, too. Too much styling to keep healthy hair.

      • Jules says:

yes, she’s talked about her fake her before, and posted photos of her real curls before. she looks better natural. goes to show, once again, the fake image that celebrities project. what is actually real?

      • Oh-Dear says:

@Jules – if I were a celebrity I would absolutely have a public persona that allowed me to save my sense of self for real intimate relationships. I don’t see it as a fake image as much as a curated image for the public which has been done since show business started – in the opera world, Hollywood, music (I especially think of the old country singers from the 70′s), etc.

      • Otaku fairy says:

@OhDear: Good point. Plus, it’s not even that serious, is it? Extensions, make-up, haircuts, hair dye, manicures-it’s all just physical appearance. I think we attach unnecessary amounts of weight to what others do in that area altogether.

      • Jules says:

@ohdear, do you really think she chose this though? like all young stars, she is managed and controlled by her PR team. the long hair, high ponytail is made to look her look cartoonish, always a child, like a female peter pan who never grows up. often sucking a lollipop.

  9. M.A.F. says:

I believe in an interview somewhere she mentions how damaged her hair was due whatever show she was on. And in that interview, or somewhere else, she mentions her curly hair & how she had to keep straightening it.

Or I could be thinking of someone else.

    • hunter says:

That is true but she was on that show 100 years ago and damage cannot be forever, hair grows from the scalp.

  10. Mel M says:

As a SAHM I wear my hair up most of the time simply because it’s easier and gets it out of the way. 6mo drool fingers are the worst. I just can’t imagine having it that high and tight all the time. She’s going to get traction hair loss from it.

  11. Lucy says:

Back when she was a theater kid (before she was a tv star), this is exactly what her hair looked like. Before the red dye and WAY before the high ponytail.

  12. Otaku fairy says:

She looks better this way. Speaking of Ari, she, Daniela Monet, AND Victoria Justice all recently spoke of how positive their own experiences were working with Nickelodeon as teens, in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Victorious.

  13. CROOKSNNANNIES says:

I think her hair is naturally curly, but she curled it for this photos. If you look at teenage photos, her hair has smaller, more uneven curls. I think she looks gorgeous like this.

  14. Lady Keller says:

That pony tail always looks so painful to me. My hair hurts just looking at her.

  15. Kath says:

Her eyeliner game is so good. Years and years and I can never get it right…

  16. lucy2 says:

I like her real hair much better than that ridiculous fake ponytail.

  17. Amelie says:

She talked awhile back how dying her hair bright pink for the show Victorious ruined her hair and so when she started her singing career she wore extensions for the high ponytail because it was the only way for her to feel confident. And I’m guessing it became her “look” so it stuck. She has posted photos of her natural hair before so this isn’t the first time we’ve seen it.

But I would love for her to stop the fake tanner and the ridiculous makeup. You can easily google and see how fair she actually is. Not to mention she had a ton of work done to her face after the show, her chin (she had a much more prominent jaw back then), eyebrows, and nose do not look the same. It’s too bad because her original face was super cute and now she is more plastic looking.

  18. Mar says:

Look at old pics of her. She looks very different. Nose, hair and all.

  19. Tiffany :) says:

I’m just thinking about who had to risk their health to do her nails. But maybe they really needed the employment? It’s such a crazy time now.

  20. Oliviajoy1995 says:

She has said before her hair was badly damaged when she was on Victorious because they had to dye it that red/pink color constantly. So that was why she wore it in ponytails with hair extensions all the time. Looks good now that it’s back to its original style. She should wear it like that more often.

  21. TheMummy says:

Ari? So…are you best friends or something? That nickname seems overfamiliar. She probably doesn’t even go by that and if she did it would be friends and family who use it. Just observing. I always find it a little odd when people do the overfamiliar thing with strangers’ names that way. Like if I were famous and a blogger called me Jessie when my name is Jessica and no one has ever called me Jessie, not even my own mom. Just odd.

  22. CherryL says:

She just makes a tight ponytail and then puts the hair piece in. It’s actually quite smart and quick.
