You go AOC. That is not an apology and you should not accept it. But you know his sexist white male coworkers are “yeah she’s a bitch for not accepting it” Or more accurately they’re pretty much discussing her sexually because they can’t see women as anything else.

Doesn’t matter if they have a wife or daughters – dumbest excuse – a lot of sexist awful men are married with kids. That doesn’t make them any better human beings. It just makes me feel sorry for the daughters.

    • Mel M says:

Ugh right? One has zero to do with the other. My FIL is one of the biggest misogynists that I know and he has a wife, who is completely submissive because duh, and a daughter who is virtually the same as her mother but thankfully didn’t marry a man like her father.

  2. TeeBee says:

Republican playbook page one of one: only barely admit fault, and only if caught. Wash rinse repeat.

I LOVE THOSE SHOES! WANT THOSE SHOES. A MILLION TIMES YES! Could I afford them? Not in this lifetime :(

Okay, I have calmed down. Hedy Lamarr. Wow. Timeless. Classic. Gorgeous.

  3. Jaded says:

Yet another old, rich white guy spewing a non-apology for insulting a woman. AOC is right to not accept his spurious non-apology and he’s going to rue the day he crossed her because as she says “bitches get stuff done”.

  4. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

We’ve been discussing misogyny over on the Kanye threads: this Yahoo sounds like the dictionary definition of it. And, while the arch enabler is in the White House, and while Bloody Stupid Johnson is in No.10 Downing Street, we’re not even going to be able to begin to have a conversation about feminism, equality (and the root of all evils, social class).

In other news – I submitted my novel to literary agents today! Please please pray that it is accepted – I’ve spent the last three years of my life researching and writing this book, and have metaphorically poured my heart and soul into it.

  5. Becks1 says:

AOC’s response was awesome. The part where she said men couldn’t hide behind their wives and daughters, and she was someone’s daughter, and she had to stand up there and fire back at him because her mother was watching, and she had to show her mother that she had raised a woman who did not tolerate abuse from men….I got chills. (paraphrasing it of course.)

    • Marjorie says:

You paraphrase well! I watched her whole speech and it was amazing. She spoke for ten minutes with no “ums” and only looked down at notes once. And she so clearly called out all men who hide behind the “I have a wife and daughters” bullsh!t.

    • Tiffany :) says:

She did such a good job.

It really bothers me that, even before calling her a b*tch, he told her she was crazy and out of her mind. The “hysteria” attack has been used against women for hundreds of years, and sexist fools use it to silence women when they have no legitimate argument.

That he tried to play this off as a “policy difference” when all he was doing was personally attacking her is so gross. I think he needs to be officially reprimanded by the House because this happened on the grounds of the work place.

      • Otaku fairy says:

This, and it’s refreshing that most people aren’t falling for this man’s attempts to reframe his blatantly misogynistic and hostile behavior as a “disagreement” or “criticism”.

      • E.B. Mann says:

Exactly. If this had happened in the corporate world, dude would be fired for gender discrimination.

    • Lucy2 says:

Her response In Congress was PHENOMENAL.

    • Kelly says:

I may not agree with some of AOC’s positions, but have a great deal of respect of her. She seems to have a good heart and is sincere in doing her best to serve her constituents. Her demonstrating her competence and commitment to the oaths she took scares the Republicans, especially the fragile white male wing of the party.

Her response was amazing. She expressed what many women in this country endure on a daily basis both in their workplaces and at home. A lot of us have built up shields because we’ve been the targets of sexist and misogynist language and being reminded to act lady like. It’s expected that we take the verbal abuse and being scolded by men for not acting like proper ladies.

I may not think too much of Liz Cheney’s politics, but she’s another one who has showed she cares more about this country than her own party in standing up to Trump. It’s rather amusing seeing the likes of Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan and their ilk try to bully her into drinking the Trump kool-aid. I’m sure she’s just as good with a shotgun as her dad is, so they should not be accepting an invite from her on a hunting trip anytime soon.

  6. Liz version 700 says:

In what workplace would this behavior be allowed it is indefensible.

    • Olliesmom says:

Our Congress and Senate are toxic workplaces.

    • Elizabeth says:

I’ve had the misfortune of a workplace that was a toxic environment for women, and they are not uncommon. Everyone is demoralized into ignoring the bad / criminal behavior for fear of retaliation by those in power .

    • Caris says:

It’s common. That’s why it resonates with so many. I was called a bitch at work by my supervisor through a work email address. The official response when i filed a complaint- i was still able to do my job and he wasn’t talking about work when he did it.

  7. Kate says:

I cannot apologize for my passion??? *takes earrings off*

  8. Jay says:

Ugh, this “apology”, it’s like a greatest hits list of crappy misogynist apologies:
I’m sorry for the disruption and strife that were caused (by me, by my actions) and for how these words were misconstrued (how?), nothing about the person I said those awful words to and about (I only swore because I’m just SO PASSIONATE about poverty, guys). I didn’t INTEND to be hurtful (I absolutely did). I’m really a nice guy (a father!) and if I did say those things, maybe she provoked me (by existing). In the end, it’s AOCs fault (that bitch -oops, said it again) for not accepting this apology, what if my political career is ruined? Then she’ll be sorry.

I feel like I’ve been hearing some version of this apology for thirty years, what about you?

  9. Liz version 700 says:

AOC’s Teeet was masterful. Thank you for showing that a man with a wife and daughter can still attack women … chef’s kiss AOC

  10. LoonaticCap says:

Josh Jackson and Scott have been bffs since Dawson’s creek + Felicity times.
I know this because I was seriously obsessed with both 😂😂😂 never ever liked Dawson and never liked Felicitys dude (forgot his name Scott something).
I had crushes on both but Scott will always have my heart (if I had to choose) 😅

  11. lobstah says:

Standing ovation to AOC. I teared up watching her speech. What a hero and positive role model for all women. Grateful we have her voice.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I am so glad she destroyed the use of female relatives as human shields. It was so disgusting that he would try and do that, and she just obliterated that kind of defense. Hopefully some men will be scared to use that tactic again after this.

I teared up as well. Very moving.

  12. khaveman says:

Another old white guy threatened by a brown woman who is smart and articulate.

  13. JanaTHING says:

It is absolutely amazing to me that in 2020,. white men are so threatened by the fact that women and men of color can be their equal. Congratulations, Mrs. Yoko, your husband is a loud and proud racist, sexist, misogynistic asshole,

  14. Trashaddict says:

I love AOC for not backing down. And for not accepting lies.

  15. Nana says:

Love AOC’s response… Reminds me of our former prime minister, Julia Gillard’s speech in response to former opposition leader Tony Abbott (hard core, useless, dumb, entitled, rabidly religious conservative) constant mysogyny… God I miss her being in power.

Yeah watch Search Party!! So many of the characters are dreadful people but they’re quite captivating nonetheless.

    Love me some Alia Shawkat!
