Princess Beatrice & Edoardo went on a ‘small honeymoon in France’

Looks like People Magazine’s sources were right and the Daily Mail’s sources were wrong. It’s interesting when that happens! In the immediate aftermath of Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi two Fridays ago, the Mail claimed that Bea and Edo would wait to travel and wait to go on any kind of honeymoon because of the pandemic. But People’s sources confirmed that Bea and Edo were planning on a quick honeymoon “soon.” Now it looks like they’ve already jetted off to France:

Soon after tying the knot in a secret ceremony on July 17, Princess Beatrice and her new husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took off on a low-key honeymoon.

“They are on a small honeymoon in France,” a source tells PEOPLE, adding that the newlyweds are also planning on a more elaborate trip for next month. “They have a longer more luxurious honeymoon planned for August,” the source adds.

The laid-back trip to France follows their whirlwind wedding ceremony, which came together in just two weeks after the wedding ban due to lockdown measures in the U.K. was lifted.

Beatrice and Mapelli Mozzi “jumped at the chance” to wed after their initial May ceremony was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “They were both desperate for it to happen. They wanted everything to be very classic and elegant; small but refined. It felt super- romantic and lovely,” a friend tells PEOPLE.

“They’re terribly happy. They’re besotted with each other,” says a source close to the family. “They’re down-to-earth and fun and have a great sense of humor.”

As an American, all I can say is… it must be nice to travel internationally. Most countries have banned Americans and for good reason, because there are too many maskless idiots here and too many Americans think masks are a “political issue.” It’s such a dumb time to be an American. But I digress… I thought British peeps would have a harder time going to European Union countries because of Brexit but apparently France is not currently in lockdown and is exempt from the advisory against “all but essential travel” for British citizens. I wonder about the “more luxurious honeymoon” in August. LMAO – Beatrice and her vacations. She loves vacationing more than Will and Kate and that says a lot.

As for “They’re besotted with each other” – again, that’s not my vibe. I think part of the reason why the Queen/palace stage-managed the wedding so much is because this is actually a pretty traditional “arranged marriage” for British royals. It’s not about love, it’s about availability and access and duty.

I’m envious, my vacation travel plans from America to Rome were just cancelled and I’m anticipating getting my October Amsterdam tickets cancelled as well. I miss travel. Good luck to the newly wed

  2. Christine says:

Ummmmm August is in a few days. Short honeymoon then more luxurious in a few days? What the? I do wonder what gift$ the RF may have paid as a dowry for Bea. It is a bad time to be associated with Pedo Andy. And the weird muted rose filter on these photos is now annoying me. Still like the flowers though.

  3. MaryContrary says:

Oh thank goodness they have another, more luxurious honeymoon planned for next month. Eye roll.

  4. Mumbles says:

As for “besotted” she does look nuts about him. Him – eh, he gives off a shady vibe. I don’t get an “arranged marriage” vibe from this at all.

  5. Alexandria says:

I don’t even have domestic travel here but it is what it is. Erh good luck to this couple.

Anyone gonna raise a stink in August about this HRH’s private plane costs? Holiday costs? What’s the nightly cost of their private room or villa? Daily Mail? Katie Keen Nicholls? Anyone? Oy!

This one hits me where it hurts! I spent months planning a 10 year wedding anniversary trip to the French and Italian Rivieras, which was the trip of a lifetime for us. Not to be, unfortunately. And yes, I get the bigger picture so don’t yell at me. But it is so very disappointing!

    • Desert Lizard says:

It would be terribly disappointing, for sure. I hope no one yells at you. Not taking that trip is a loss and deserves to be grieved. It’s okay to grieve what we’ve lost. COVID has cost us a lot of wonderful things we’ve had planned. I’m so sorry you aren’t able to take that trip as planned. I hope you can at another time.

  7. Rachel says:

Why would it be arranged? If arranged, RF would have chosen someone more appealing and not divorced with a child.

    • Sparky says:

This is his 1st marriage. He and the mother of his child were engaged but never married

  8. Lizzie says:

Why does everyone keep stressing they are ‘besotted’ with each other? Would that be the assumption for newlyweds? Do they protest too much?
Luxury honeymoon was probably part of the wedding gown/queens wedding tiara package she got for going along with the small wedding.

    • Desert Lizard says:

They keep stressing it because it isn’t true. Yes, they are protesting too much. I agree about the luxury honeymoon as a reward for the smaller wedding.

  9. Priscila says:

My theory is not much as arranged marriage, as in families arranging it, but that Beatrice and Edo decided they wanted to get married because ” it was time”, not because they fell madly in love with each other. They are comfortable with one another, as old friends are. Beatrice tried the love thing and had her waiting for ten years- nor everybody is Kate level of desperation.

and they are both nobles- they have other rules. I get a bit annoyed at everyone thinking everybody in that family has married for love.

Sometimes, people get together for other reasons than romantic love…how many women have married men they were not crazy about it because they wanted to get married? I know one.

I think the Daily Mail lobbed a cannon ball at the Yorks for having been pipped by People magazine to the story, LOL! Per the DM:

“The property developer fell for the Princess after meeting her at the wedding of her sister Princess Eugenie to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018. At the time he was living with his fiancee Dara Huang, 38, the mother of his four-year-old son Wolfie. Ms Huang was said to be distraught when Edo began dating Beatrice, but the three are now firm friends. ‘Dara was devastated at the beginning but she has always maintained good relations for the sake of their son,’ said a friend.”

When the story about Edo and Bea broke, Dara’s parents spoke to the press saying how D & E were still living together and still a couple and how Dara was upset but the narrative soon pushed by the Yorks and the Press was that B & E had known each other a very long time and when they got together, E & D had already broken up and Dara was fine.

So, the DM is seemingly steered wrong by a source and all of a sudden B & E first met at the wedding, D & E were still a couple and Dara was “devastated.” Don’t worry DM, I think the Yorks will be more compliant from now on….

I am pretty sure the Fail is wrong here. The two families traveled together, from what I read, so I don’t think he met her at the wedding. I think they’ve known each other since childhood? Either way, if he was with Dara at the time, and invited Eugenie’s wedding, wouldn’t he have brought her as his date? Something doesn’t add up.

  11. candy says:

Ahhh to be young, rich, and european. But I digress. Traveling right now is very risky, I don’t even know if we’re allowed to, but I wouldn’t. I really don’t want this virus, now they are saying people are getting it twice?! Ugh.

  12. Sparky says:

While I understand people’s disliking aspects of Bea’s dress such as the sleeves but overall that dress is so flattering on her. To me that overrides the smaller details as the distaff side of the York family rarely wear clothes that fit properly and/or are flattering to their body type.

    • L4frimaire says:

Lucky them they get to actually travel, unless those of us here in States. The dress overall is pretty but the sleeves and hem aren’t the best look. One thing about the dress that bugs me. You can have a white dress and a wedding dress, but they are not always one and the same. The dress is pretty, it’s white, it has fancy details but it doesn’t look like a wedding dress to me. JMO.

  13. The Recluse says:

Something tells me that we’re going to get wall to wall Beatrice in time to come now that they have run Harry and Meg off, unless Kate and William have a fit about it.
