Kamala Harris on Trump’s ‘nasty’ jibes: It’s designed to distract from his neglect

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris gave their first joint interview to David Muir at ABC (for 20/20). My mom loves Muir, which I guess means his target audience is made up of older women who think he’s handsome. He usually leaves me cold, but I enjoyed him in this interview – he wasn’t doing too much and he let Harris and Biden say their piece. They talked about how historic it was for Biden to select a Black-Indian woman as his running mate, and why he did it:

“You know, we talk about what it means to be progressive. Joe really walks the talk,” Harris shared. “I’ll remind everyone that Joe was one of the first Democrats to speak out in terms of LGBTQ rights and equality. He just did it. Joe, selecting a woman of color to be his vice president, what an audacious move,” Harris said, marveling at the “audacity of Joe Biden, to actually just make that decision and then follow through on it?”

When asked if he felt pressured to select a Black woman to be his VP, Biden said the decision wasn’t based on pressure, but out of a desire for government to be truly representative.

“What I do think is that the government should look like the people, look like the country, and 51 percent of the people in this country are women,” Biden said. “In order to be able to succeed, you’ve got to be dealt in across the board. I cannot understand and fully appreciate what it means to walk in her shoes, to be an African-American woman, with an Indian-American background, the child of immigrants. She can’t assume exactly what it’s like to walk in my shoes. What we do know is we have the same value set.”

[From ET]

I know we were expecting Harris to be chosen as Biden’s running mate, but I still marvel at the fact that Joe Biden really did that. He chose Kamala Harris, a certified badass who called him out publicly many times during the primaries, to be his running mate. That alone says so much about how he operates and how secure he is as a politician/man. After years of the thin-skinned narcissist refusing to accept any criticism, this is noteworthy.

Also: Muir asked Kamala about all of the names she’s been called by Trump (nasty, madwoman, the meanest) and Kamala laughed it off while simultaneously pointing out that Trump is just trying to distract: “I think that there is so much about what comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth that is designed to distract the American people from what he is doing every day. That is about neglect, negligence and harm to the American people.” I like how Biden steps in and just reminds everyone: what Trump has said and done is SO abnormal for the presidency.

I loved this interview (also this header pic)! Kamala is right–the outrageous statements and behavior are always covering up something worse.

I agree, it says a lot about Joe Biden that he picked Kamala after she held his feet to the fire during the primaries. Unimaginable for Trump. Especially with a woman. Kaiser, I am desi, I know you’re a halfie. Does it make you crazy, like it does me, to listen to Nikki Haley? I actually can’t, after a couple of minutes, at most, I start howling with rage internally and have to stop.
