Lindsay Lohan is being sued for the advance she got for a book she never wrote

lohan2

Can you even imagine drawing up a contract with Lindsay Lohan and expecting anything to come of it? Can you even imagine *wanting* to work with Lindsay in any capacity? We’ve known how unreliable and unprofessional she is for years now. I mean, she was an unhireable mess a decade ago, and little has changed since then. Still, HarperCollins thought it would be a brilliant idea to lock Lindsay into a contract for a memoir in 2014. They thought it would be a good idea to give her an advance!! They ended up cancelling the book deal and asking for the advance back. LMAO!

Lindsay Lohan’s art of the book deal consists of agreeing to write it, getting a huge sum of money and then failing to turn in a draft … at least according to a new suit. Publishing company HarperCollins is going after Lohan, claiming she breached a contract she signed way back in March 2014 to write a book. According to the legal docs — obtained by TMZ — Lohan and her production company promised she’d have it completed by May 2015 … but it never happened.

Instead, HarperCollins claims it revised the due date to March 2017, and even paid her a $365,000 advance against future royalties.

However, HarperCollins claims the deadlines came and went, and Lindsay never delivered a manuscript. So, the publisher says it informed her in Sept. 2018 the book deal was off, and it wanted its money back. There’s a lawsuit, so you guessed it … HC says LiLo never refunded the cash.

HarperCollins is suing Lohan for the $365k plus interest and legal fees. We reached out to Lindsay … no word back so far.

[From TMZ]

I mean, obviously Lindsay Lohan should have returned the advance and all that. But I can’t help but think this is entirely a fool’s errand on the part of HarperCollins. What the hell did they think was going to happen? She’s a grifter and she hates anything resembling work! She was never going to write that memoir! And the fact that they still gave her an advance AFTER they had to revise the date (by two years LMAO)… well, that’s on them! Just write off the $365K as a stupidity tax. And fire whoever thought it would be a great idea to give Lindsay Lohan a damn book contract.

She’s on the wrong, but how could anyone though it was a good idea to give her advance money knowing her work ethic? And to write a book about her life when she can’t be honest about it on interviews!

  2. Bettyrose says:

Wouldn’t such a thing typically be ghost written? Did the publisher assign a ghost writer and set up working dates that Lohan blew off? They couldn’t possibly have just handed over cash and said here’s your deadline. That’s not even how this works.

    • tealily says:

That’s what I was thinking too. How did she not get someone to write this for her, whether organized by her or the publisher? I’m sure it’s what you said… she blew off the meetings.

      • Maida says:

I had this same thought about a ghostwriter. You’d think she could hire one herself, even. I mean, Trump managed it!

    • not a fan of caitlyn says:

Often enough, it IS kind of like that. Here’s your advance; let me know if you need any help, otherwise see you in 18 months. And generally you have to hire your own people on that end – ghostwriters, fact checkers, etc – even with big publishers. So I would guess she just never bothered.

  3. Mtec says:

I feel like there was a storyline on Younger that is similar to this, now I wonder if they based it on her lol

    • not a fan of caitlyn says:

That was based on Cat Marnell, a beauty writer and complete mess. She actually finished the book, titled How to Murder Your Life, and it was quite a success. Really good read, I’d recommend it.

  4. waitwhat says:

She should take some of this grift and invest in Crest White Strips.

  5. JEM says:

As my friend used to say, she’s a soup sandwich. (Hot mess)

  6. Noki says:

Every time she ‘disappears’ i always hope that the next headline she makes will be something positive. Like she finally grew up and is taking her life seriously. We have seen that you can still be a party gurl and turn things around eg Paris Hilton.

  7. Merricat says:

This is why the publishing business is in trouble. Lindsay’s fans don’t even read books, HarperCollins.

    • not a fan of caitlyn says:

Well, first, the book industry is actually doing pretty well – book sales are WAY up lately. Second, people will absolutely read a celebrity memoir even if they’re not a big fan. See Jessica Simpsons’s recent book – no one would have expected that she had a book reading fanbase but the book is good so it sold very well.

  8. Lisa says:

Crazy how many chances she gets and keeps blowing it time and again.

  9. C-Shell says:

Kaiser, all of your pic choices today are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

“Stupidity tax” could apply to so many things right now. 😭

  10. Michael says:

I do not know how they expect to recover that $ 365 thousand dollars. I am sure it was spent even before the check cleared. You do business with Lohn you should expect to get screwed over. Look at her history

  11. shanaynay says:

Why on earth would anybody want to read LL’s memoirs? WTF???????

    • Geeena says:

I would, maybe an unpopular opinion, but with these caveats:

      1. It’s honest and covers her early history, especially her terrible parents, through child and teen stardom
      2. It’s self reflective and self aware, shows her regret over being terrible and takes accountability for squandering numerous second chances and what talent she once had
      3. A talented ghostwriter is heavily involved, preferably a good memoir writer

    • Bread and Circuses says:

I would totally read Lohan’s memoirs — provided they were written by a steely, unflinchingly honest ghostwriter who did independent research and fact-checked the hell out of everything Lindsey herself said.

Arguably, Lohan herself would barely need to be involved. Very little that comes out of her mouth appears to be true.

  12. lucy2 says:

Can you imagine not doing anything on a deadline, and then getting handed a 2 year extension AND $365k? What a world.

I don’t feel one bit sorry for the publisher. Her grifting has been very clearly evident a long, long time now, and she has screwed over anyone who did any business with her.

  13. ce says:

Another day, another ‘Lindsay Lohan squanders earnings and is irresponsible’ headline! How many years are we going to do this! Hahahaha jk I love it

  14. Miranda says:

It’s 2020 and I just read an article about Lindsay Lohan, and was somewhat grateful for the mild distraction it provided. THIS IS WHAT 4 YEARS OF TRUMP HAS DONE TO THIS COUNTRY.

  15. Annabel says:

It was a stupid deal on HarperCollins’ part, but as I’m sure they made clear to Lohan and/or her agent in multiple meetings, she could have hired a ghostwriter for like $50k and waltzed off into the sunset. The only work she’d have had to do in that scenario is meet several times with the ghostwriter. I’m sure that’s what HarperCollins was expecting would happen, since that’s, well, really the only sane thing to do when you’re a non-writer celebrity with a massive book deal.

  16. ClaireB says:

Was the editor in charge of this a Parent Trap fan? Why would anyone do this? I have a hard time believing that enough people still care enough about LL to buy a book and read about her.

  17. Mindy_Dopple says:

I didn’t bother looking up if the date of this book year was before or after the Oprah documentary series with Lohan, cause if it ran after that series…. the person who gave her the advance is a FOOL. Lohan really showed her true self in that documentary series, she was delusional, defensive, dismissive, and IN DENIAL about EVERYTHING. She was in complete control of how she would be perceived. She had a chance to put her best self forward and just COULDN’T.

  18. Annie says:

Why is she like this. For someone who wants to be rich with famous she really doesn’t want to do anything to keep her name out there and keep her lifestyle.
