Hailey Baldwin is endorsing Biden, her dad, Stephen Baldwin, is pro-Trump

The Baldwin brothers, William, Alec and Stephen, (there’s Daniel too) were the Hemsworths of the 80s and 90s. For the most part the Baldwins are a pretty liberal clan. Except for Stephen, the youngest. Stephen is a devout Christian and Trump supporter. However not all of Stephen’s family members share that opinion.

On Saturday, World Mental Health Day, Stephen’s daughter, Hailey Baldwin Bieber, posted a message supporting Biden and Harris. Hailey said in her post that the state of the country has been affecting her mental health. She wrote that even though she has hope for the nation everyone must vote to change its trajectory. Later Hailey’s father, Stephen, tweeted his support for Trump with a sort of shady subtext, stating he “doesn’t talk much about family.” Here is more on the story via Yahoo!:

[Hailey Baldwin Bieber] used World Mental Health Day, Sat. Oct. 10, to share her political views, wearing a blue tie-dyed Biden T-shirt as she wrote, “It’s World Mental Health Day, and something that has affected my mental health is the state of our country and the future of our country. I have hope, but we need to collectively make the change we want for our future and that means getting out there to VOTE!!!”

[Her] post got plenty of likes and supportive comments from fellow celebrities including Jennifer Aniston and Miley Cyrus. Her uncle Billy Baldwin, a frequent critic of the president, also appeared to be overjoyed at his niece’s endorsement.

“Thanks Hailey!!” the Backdraft star wrote. “You have no idea how much this means to me.”

Of course, not all Baldwins are backing Biden. Bieber’s father, and Alec and Billy’s brother, is actor Stephen Baldwin of The Usual Suspects fame. A political conservative and, like his daughter, a devout Christian, the 54-year-old appeared to reference her post in a tweet sent later that day. The tweet noted that he doesn’t “talk much about family” and went on to cheer on the Trump 2020 campaign.

[From Yahoo!]

I will never understand the people who say they are devout Christians voting for a party KNOWN for its debauchery and specifically the horrible sh*t Trump has done. I would like to know where in the Bible does it tells us to hate your neighbor and cast out the immigrant? I’d prefer these folks to be more honest with themselves about why they are voting for Trump.

I think I was shocked to find out yet another person in Hollywood was a Trump supporter. I know I shouldn’t be surprised as many people do vote Republican to protect their money. However, I think these last four years have shown us how politically divided Hollywood really is. Also, that tweet Stephen sent out was shady AF. Why even mention your family? Like we know who you are referring to dude.

I love young people like Hailey who see the landscape for what it is. I am sure it would be easier to follow in the political footsteps of her father but she is choosing not only her future but that of the next generation and that takes a lot of courage. This year’s election will be absolutely divisive and likely the most contested. It will definitely be interesting to see how it all turns out. I do hope people like Hailey, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift continue to openly support Biden and Harris. Perhaps it’ll motivate other young people to actually get out there and vote.

Her father is absolutely delusional. He admitted voting for Trump for taxes, says a lot about his christian values. I would be mortified of my father did this in public. Anyway good for her for using her platform for good.

    • LightPurple says:

Stephen has been very outspoken about his far right beliefs for years.

      • Angel says:

        wait really ????

      • Tanguerita says:

        @Angel
absolutely, he has always been a right-wing nut, even before Trump.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

Yup. He’s been nuts for years. Billy Baldwin has openly criticized him for it. He’s the only Republican in a family full of liberal Dems

      • H says:

@Lightpurple, Stephen is a hypocrite then. While working in the airline industry, I had the ‘pleasure’ of having Stephen Baldwin on a flight. At the time, I liked the guy as he was in a movie I loved, “Threesome.”

Long story short, Stephen was in first class. There was a beautiful woman in coach, we later found out she worked for the Mayor’s office in NYC. Stephen went back to coach and pestered her the ENTIRE flight. It was obvious she was not into him. (He was also married).

At the end of the flight, he had to go back to his seat for landing. Lady asked us flight attendants if we could escort her off the flight because she feared Stephen would be waiting in the gate area for her. We did, and sure enough, there was Stephen who had disembarked first, standing around. He left when he saw us.

He’s scum. No, lower than pond scum. He’s a guy who won’t take no for an answer. Some “Christian.” Hated him ever since.

      • Angel says:

Dam this is so embarrassing, explain why he supports Trump.

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah I thought that was well known for a long time. He also neglected to pay a LOT of taxes and was arrested for it, and from what I recall, did some sort of crowd funding from fans or something to try to pay it. You know, a hand out. For a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” Trumper.

I think a lot of people call themselves a “devout Christian” as a cover for being hateful and gross. He can spout Bible verses and put religious imagery on his social media all he wants, it’s actions, not words, that count.

    • whatWHAT? says:

for “christians” (and I put that in quotes and lower case because they DO NOT act Christ-like) who are voting for 45, it’s for ONE reason. abortion.

which is ridiculous, because the number of yearly abortions goes DOWN when Dems are in office, due to to more access to sex ed and to birth control. and, as we know from history, denying access to safe and legal abortion does NOT stop women from seeking them. they just have to take more risks, including their lives, to get one.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

@whatWHAT? it’s about controlling women’s body and anti-abortion is the ruse they use to accomplish that. Speak to one of these people, men/women doesn’t matter and it doesn’t take them long to reveal that they think pregnancy is a punishment for sexually active women. Now there are a few people who are genuinely about anti-abortion because they believe it is murder, but for those people the more they learn the facts, the less rigid they are and eventually some of these people move over to pro-choice. These are the exception, in my experience and I have a significant amount of experience in this field, so called pro-lifers mainly care about controlling women.

      • whatWHAT? says:

TRUTH. and I’d go even further and call them what they really are: pro-BIRTH.

if they were truly pro-life, they’d want to feed, clothe, house and educate all those babies that they force women to have. but no, once those babies are out of the womb, they’re ok with putting them in a cage. literally.

      • pottymouth pup says:

while some vote solely to overturn Roe, the fundagelicals are voting for Trump b/c they expect him to usher in an age of Christian Dominionism. They believe the first amendment is applicable to Christians only and the text somehow means the state cannot impose any laws on the church but that the church most certainly can & should be imposed on the state

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

@pottymouth if these people spent even a little time studying history and Christianity in Europe especially they wouldn’t want such a world. The founders didn’t create freedom of religion because they feared other religions, it was different Christian faith that inspired the need. Humans really never learn, so we just keep repeating history over and over again.

  2. Melody Calder says:

I volunteer at comicons and work with the talent… LOTS of Hollywood is conservative, to a shocking degree

    • H says:

It’s about money for most of them. They don’t want to pay higher taxes.

      • Wilma says:

I also think a lot of Hollywood people are not really educated or curious about the world. You have to be really into you and selling you if you want to make it. That doesn’t encourage curiosity about the world and other people.

  3. Biff says:

This might be a stupid question, but how much influence does Hailey have? I’m not in her target group I think, and I’m genuinly interested in the workings of this. Like, I understand why someone like Swift who has a solid fanbase can motivate her fans, but I feel like Hailey maybe doesn’t have the same type of impact.

    • Dalloway says:

I mean … she does have 30M instagram followers. It’s not as many as Swift (140M) but it’s reaching someone.

    • Steph says:

She’s Justin Bieber’s wife, that in and of itself gives her reach with teens and 20- something’s.
But even us of the non celebrity, small follower base can encourage people to vote.

    • Lemons says:

She has more influence than her sh*tty father and that’s all that matters.

    • Angel says:

What influence does Taylor Swift have ? Remember when Taylor swift told everyone not to vote for Marsha Blackburn who ended up winning with a huge gap ? It’s great that celebrities are encouraging people to register to vote ( which is apparently an issue in the us) but people do not care about who celebrities are voting for.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

That’s not fair though. First Taylor spoke out in that situation late, almost at the finishing line of that race and second, that was a local race in a very RED area, her fans can’t accomplish miracles. I mean it’s not like all her fans live in TN and therefore could rush out and vote for the other candidate, but it moved the needle a bit and Taylor has been very outspoken since.

      • Angel says:

This is why I think if she really wanted to make a difference she would have spoken way before, everything is about image and PR to her. The only reason she is more vocal about politics now it’s because It’s safe to do so. And anyway , I stand by what I said, people don’t vote for politicians based on what celebrities are saying an who they are voting . It’s would be naive to think the contrary.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

@Angel you are giving humans way too much credit. Unfortunately, we are not all independent, critical thinkers. Some people do make these decision based on what those they look up to say. I know it would be nice to believe otherwise, but just like advertising have an impact, those who are famous have an impact.

      • Ellie says:

However after Taylor encouraged people to vote, there was some crazy number like 125000 new registered voters in the days (weeks?) following. So encouraging young people to become politically active does work, even if it doesn’t produce the outcome you want at that time.

Showing young people voting is important (and “cool”) is essential in countries like yours where voting is not compulsory. People must engage.

  4. Steph says:

@Oya, I keep getting slapped by favs turning up right wingers too. Did see the Vampire Diaries debacle during the Harris/Pence debate? Paul Wesley and Matt Davis got into it. I’m not sure I can tune into season 3 of Legacies now.

  5. Princess Peach says:

Does anyone remember that story about her dad having an affair with a massage therapist a few years ago?

Explains his Trump support. Cheaters of a feather stick together.

  6. Emily says:

Good for Hailey. I’m from Canada but we have the Conservative Party and it’s all my dad has ever voted for — and there’s definitely this mixing of religion and politics where people will tell you that one party if a “Christian party” and the other isn’t. It comes down to being one issue voters (abortion, gay marriage) or money or fear of society evolving.

AOC tweeted this gem last night:
“ When politicians use faith as an excuse to pass and uphold laws that seize control of people’s bodies but not guarantee them healthcare, feed the poor, shelter the homeless, or welcome the stranger, you have to wonder if it’s really about faith at all.”

    • whatWHAT? says:

I love AOC for putting that out there and calling out the hypocrisy, but she was too lenient. you don’t “have to wonder”. it’s clear that it’s not really about faith at all.

    • clomo says:

I saw the article about Hailey and she said her whole family except her dad are anti trump. I am beginning to like her, at first I was suspicious because marrying Justin?! But she seems ok now even if she goes to that weird church.

  7. Darla says:

Speaking of conservatives in Hollywood, did anyone see that asshat Chris Pratt’s “jokey” tweet about voting?

    • Steph says:

The one that was actually about voting for one of his movies?

      • Darla says:

Yes. And he was really mocking other celebrities for doing Vote campaigns. I thought it was disgusting.

    • theothercleo says:

So I just went to check his “joke” and what can I say? At this point I’m not surprised,of course he thought this was hilarious and appropriate. Also, when Sean Hannity supports you it says a lot about your sense of humor.

    • Sadezilla says:

Darla, I misread and thought you had said “Chris Pine” and was about to be SO disappointed. Thank goodness it’s just known asshole and fundie Christian Chris Pratt. Blech.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, made her support for Biden clear on Insta. I hope she is treated as an equal in her marriage, given who her partner is.

      • cassandra says:

Oh I’m sure she’s treated as an equal, if not higher. Remember, she’s a Kennedy/Shriver/Schwarzenegger. Pratt is a (current) Blockbuster success, but imagine the connections Katherine has. If he ever screwed up her family would bury him.

    • lucy2 says:

Pratt is such an asshole, and seems to have gotten much worse as his fame grew.
Of course a rich, white, straight male doesn’t care about voting, because he’s going to be fine no matter what. It’s disgusting.

  8. shanaynay says:

Her dad is a friggen moron!!!

  9. Maida says:

Notice also that Stephen Baldwin’s tweet is half-baked phrases and emojis. Kind of says it all about the coherence of the message he’s putting out.

  10. Grant says:

Don’t let these crazies co-opt Christianity for you, Oya. My mom is a devout, god-fearing Christian. She is also a bleeding heart liberal and has no issues reconciling her politics with her faith. In fact, the Bible includes so many passages that promote progressive values, from supporting immigration to ministering to the poor. My mom gets so frustrated with these crazy pro-life evangelicals because she doesn’t understand how someone can be “pro-birth” and then want to cut welfare programs and promote racism… all in the name of Jesus. I have so much respect for my mom because in this era of shady Republican tactics, her faith and her liberal politics have just gotten stronger.

    • Oya says:

It’s because they are white supremacists cloaked in Jesus. it is the same with those who owned and supported a system of slavery and racism. They obviously don’t read a single bible. Ever

  11. Dee Kay says:

I was never a fan of Hailey Baldwin Bieber before but I am a fan of THIS. Good job, HBB. GOTV!!!!!

  12. Barfly says:

To be fair Stephen is the least successful in his family and has had more legal troubles than the rest of them also. He’s also the least attractive (in my opinion). That’s gotta sting in a family of Hollywood people hahahahaha. Even chunky, older Daniel is at least funny. And the Christian shtick is just to try to keep people liking him, he’s just another rich guy who can’t manage his money. He’s barely a celebrity

  13. Mollie says:

Donald trump is the antithesis of the Bible. He is the exact opposite of Jesus. I call myself a Christian, and it blows my mind how “Christians” ignore his behavior. Jesus said to love god with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. No matter what. Putting brown children in cages and separating them from their families. Disgusting. Trying to take away rights of LGBQT. Despicable. Grab them by the… should have been enough. Vote, vote, vote. The Cheeto has got to go.

  14. msd says:

Oh, I thought she was Alec Baldwin’s daughter. No joke. I’m not the right demographic so I heard Baldwin and just assumed …

  15. Oya says:

    No, but I do now….
