Joe Biden went on camera again, urged patience for every vote to be counted

Biden Addresses the Nation

One of the things I enjoy most about Joe Biden’s performance this week – and his performance throughout his political career – is that he understands the simple fact that the American people appreciate a leader who projects a mood of calm steadiness. One could argue that even without the vote counts, this was the week where Joe Biden became president, simply because he projected that energy. He’s behaved flawlessly, like a calm and steady leader, throughout the week, with good news and bad news. He urged patience and his message has been consistent and confident: every vote must be counted, and when every vote is counted, we’ll win.

Biden has also been in the game long enough to understand that the American people needed to see him and hear from him every day. The Trump camp apparently knew they were f–ked as soon as Biden went on camera around 1 am on Wednesday, because Biden set the tone and made Trump look like he was following Biden’s act of confident leadership (something Trump has never projected in his life). Biden has continued to go on camera, making pithy presidential speeches encouraging everyone to simply be patient and count every vote. Yesterday, he even spoke briefly about the pandemic, which, oh right, has still been raging this week, and there are hundreds of thousands of new Covid cases and we’re in store for a hellish, deadly winter.

This also served as a subtle reminder that despite Donald Trump’s pathetic lies and Obese Turtle Energy, the institutions around the presidency still roll on. It would not surprise me at all if Biden was already receiving official and daily national security briefings, pandemic briefings and foreign policy briefings. The Secret Service is already ramping up Biden’s security as well.

It is widely believed that many states will complete their counts today, in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania. There were reports last night that Biden would make another speech, perhaps a victory speech, but his camp shut it down. I believe they’re all still waiting to see every last Philadelphia vote. Which… I mean, same. Philly hates that orange prick in the White House.

He has been getting the daily briefings since he won the nomination. Same briefings Trump gets, except he actually reads them.

    • Becks1 says:

My husband asked me the other day – “can’t you just see Trump spewing national security secrets on Fox and Friends every day?”

I said no because he probably cant remember what he was told and we know he never reads his briefings.

God, I’ve missed this. Coherent, calm, in control, reassuring. I’d forgotten what that was like.

Right!?! I was reading an article on People about Trump’s latest speech, then they quoted some of Biden’s recent statements and it was so calming. The juxtaposition in that article between the Trump pissy rhetoric and Biden’s mature leadership was startling. I turned to my husband and said ” I’d forgotten what a rational and eloquent leader sounded like.” Looking forward to the official election call and feeling cautiously optimistic about the future.

This is what I want, desperately. Decency, kindness, and a leader for all americans, not just his loyal followers.

The count every vote protesters dressed as mail boxes and the White House ego we’re dancing in the streets last night- they gave me life. Joyful. Hopeful. Patient. Celebratory.

I don’t want to jinx it. They’re still counting.
    Fingers crossed. Thinking good thoughts.

What’s this talk by Lindsey Graham discussing the desire to have legislatures change how they select electors? He implied that since Philly elections are “always crooked”, the PA legislature should instruct electors on who to vote for and not reflect the will of the people. Is there a lot of traction on that idea by right wing people?

    • Also Ali says:

“Since people want to do the “faithless electors” thing again, let’s recap:
      * Court says states CAN ENFORCE electors to vote like the voters tell them.
      * States who want to let electors vote their conscience needed to make that call BEFORE the election.
      * None did.“

Sure, a really red state could try to get away with it but the governor of GA for example still has to answer to the citizens of GA that he decides to overrule. Unlikely.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

@Also Ali, you’re absolutely right. Kemp may want to ask the electors to do that, but he knows we hate him and would run his butt out of office early if he tried. He’s probably already sweating about the fact Stacey Abrams has helped to turn GA blue.

    • Betsy says:

Whatever they have on Lindsey has got to be *horrible*.

This had been the most unproductive week of my life. The screen time report on my iPhone is off the charts.

  6. Becks1 says:

honestly, I laugh every time Trump tried to insult him by calling Joe “sleepy Joe” – sleepy sounds good. Boring sounds good. Not panicking about what our president may have tweeted overnight sounds so good right now.

  7. Eleonor says:

What the US needs right a now is an old-school boring politician.
Do you remember when politics was BORING because it was a serious thing and not a joke? That is what you need.

  8. TeamAwesome says:

I believe the phrase is “act like you’ve been there”, something Trump is incapable of doing.

  9. Midnight@theOasis says:

Trump has to always “WIN” regardless the cost. He doesn’t want to be President, but “losing” to Biden is anathema to him. If he has to go scorched earth and destroy everything in the process he will. Also, watching Trump slowly and agonizingly lose this election to Biden is almost better than having him lose it in a landslide on election night.

    • Chrissy says:

I was thinking about this last night. The “death by a thousand cuts” election results must be driving Trump even more insane than he usually is. Same goes for Junior and Eric threatening GOP members for not defending the Orange Turd to their satisfaction (“We won’t forget!!!”).

    Lovely posts here.
I agree completely re: politics are boring because they are serious, and yes, God, yes Biden being a calming Adult urging others to be smart, calm, use your rational thoughts and conduct yourself as an ADULT.

Seeing the meme with Biden sitting next to Obama….brought tears to my eyes.
Obama, I miss you. Smart, well spoken, classy, actually TRIED to do his job as POTUS.

I wish the former POTUS would start openly declaring the law and the actual powers of the office of POTUS are being crushed under Trump.
    Jaysus, why haven’t they? Repeatedly.

    Twitter should block Trumps account!
They should have years ago, Block Trump, then state “POTUS surely has more important items on his schedule” so we have assisted him by shutting down his twitter account.

A sitting POTUS who calls US Armed Forces service members “losers”, mocks a former POW, disregards and insults a Gold Star Family…and never served his country, IMO, should have been Impeached on this alone. Yes, this is personal to me, I lost family in the Vietnam War.
    Vile creature = Trump.

Have you seen the meme with Biden trying to convince Obama to “return” the Louisiana Purchase (which constitutes most of the fed states across middle America) with a receipt? It was hilarious. I’ve missed the old school Barack and Joe memes.
I found it and uploaded it to Imgur. Here you go…

I’m much more calmer now than I was yesterday and especially Tuesday. Biden is absolutely winning, it’s just a matter of which state will be the winning one.
