Prince Harry volunteered with the Compton Veterans & Operation Nourish

Five days ago, Prince Harry volunteered for a good cause in Compton, California. These Instagrams are from the Walker Family Events Foundation, and the event was to pack up and distribute food to the community, especially to military families and veterans’ families. The food bank/drive was in association with the Compton Veterans and Operation Nourish.

Just to underline the point: Prince Harry is all about veterans and military support. Even if his family strips him of his royal title and ducal title and everything else, he will still choose to support the military community and veterans community. And he wants those communities to have more visibility, which is yet another reason why he, say, arranged for photos to be taken on Remembrance Day, or why he was okay with being photographed at this event. The argument of “you should do these good works without any attention” defeats the purpose of having high-profile people supporting charity: the aim is to bring visibility, and the aim is to hopefully use those big names to draw more support, more funding and more donations.

I guess I find it interesting that Harry volunteered solo too! I do wonder if Meghan is knocked up and she’s starting to show.

PS… After a lifetime of being forced to wear stiff dress uniforms and tailored suits, Harry has spent much of the past eight months in jeans, t-shirts, worn polos and loose khakis.

Update: Since you guys are talking about it in the comments, here’s the racist Daily Mail tweet:

Good for him. Nice for Meghan to let her hostage out. Looks like fellow volunteer took picture and put it on insta a few days ago. No doubt Brits are gonna moan why can’t he do that in GB.

Funny how they can get on with volunteering etc without people knowing when palace staff aren’t involved.

    • Escondista says:

      He looks so liberated.

      • Pamuk says:

He really does, the sneakers he’s always wearing now, very laid back American vibe. I love to see it. ❤️

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

That’s the kind of hostage I’d like to be. Everyone who saw him appear on Strictly commented on how well and happy he looked. Words like glowing were used. I say bravo to them for protecting Archie and escaping the cesspool for a better, happier and fulfilling life.

    • Chelsea says:

Interesting that this was posted 5 days ago and no one found it for days; obviously wasnt meant to be a huge pr thing but you know some people from that island will complain anyway.

Im glad that he is finding these ways to work with fellow veterans: something i like about his work with veterans is that it was never just about UK veterans but veterans that are in allied forces as well which makes sense since he did his apache training in the states and served alongside American,Afghani, and other NATO forces in Afghanistan. The palace can take away his honorary titles but they can’t take away that he is an actual veteran and will always support that community.

    • Lady2Lazy says:

@ ABitGuest, I hope that hostage comment was sarcasm, as Harry is NOT Meghans hostage. Harry was well on his way out before he met Meghan. There has been talk for years about Harry leaving KP and being stationed somewhere else, he just happened to marry a fabulous woman and is deeply in love, and she with him. His family is his first priority and he is happy and is thriving. Harry is conducting his life on his terms, not PWT or The Firm. It’s great to see him working for veterans as he has done a majority of his adult life, and he himself is a veteran!!

  2. Talia says:

I’ve just watched Season 4 of the Crown and while Diana hugging children with AIDS in private would have been an excellent thing to do, it was the fact she was prepared to do it in public that helped change the way children (and adults) with AIDS were treated.

Harry has his mother’s understanding of how to leverage his position.

    • Amy Too says:

And with the whole cemetery visit I thought it was silly that people thought that needed to be private. They were showing their public thanks, love, and support for veterans. It helps if the veterans actually KNOW that you’re saying thanks so that they can feel supported. If you don’t tell them “thank you” out loud, publicly, they’re not going to know. I thought that was one of the main reasons we had Veterans Day, as a day to let veterans know that we appreciate them.

    • Anna says:

      @Talla So true!

  3. Levans says:

Bets on how racial the royal reporters will make this charity outing, ya know since it supported Compton vets?

Actually I wouldn’t take that bet given how they lost their minds with the “Straight outta Compton” articles when he and meghan first went public.

    • Lorelei says:

I actually love it — it’s like Harry is taking what was one of the first insults hurled at his wife by the British tabloids (it wasn’t even accurate, but it isn’t as if the royal reporters are known for accuracy) and proudly volunteering there.
It’s as if he’s reclaiming it to do something good, and reminds me of what happened with the term “Megxit.” At first it was created by awful trolls, had such a derogatory connotation, and was only used by people who hated Meghan. But when Harry & Meghan did actually leave the UK, it was turned into the word that everyone, including outlets like The NY Times, used to describe the situation. It took all of the power away from the trolls who tried to make it purely an insult to Meghan.
I’m sure the BRF will try to somehow try to twist this story, but good luck trying to make his volunteering into anything negative.

I just love how both Harry and Meghan continue to do their thing, happy and unbothered by all of the nonsense the press is stirring up this week about their Netflix deal. Pictures of Harry casual, content, and smiling like this in the California sunshine must make Bill and the courtiers so angry 🥰

    • Amy Bee says:

The Daily Mail’s headline for this story is “Harry in the Hood”. Kaiser has tweeted about it. But if you talk to the royal rota, they will pretend that they didn’t know the racial connotations behind the “Straight outta Compton” headline. They knew exactly what the meaning behind it was.

      • Lorelei says:

“Harry in the Hood?” Well, that’s predictably disgusting. And yes they know EXACTLY what they’re doing. It’s like when they pretended not to know the connotations of “uppity” or “niggling.” They’re so transparent. Let’s see how they try to claim that they’re STILL not racists, and all of their anger is solely about Harry abandoning his family or whatever, as they print garbage like that.

I bet the people he interacted with in “the hood” are so much friendlier and honest and just all-around better to spend time with than those selfish, cold snobs who populate the palaces and their pompous, self-important staff members.

      • Züri says:

Excellent points. The defense of not knowing “Straight outta Compton,” will only further expose what hypocritical twats the RR are. You don’t know that, but you know enough to make those types of racist connections between Compton and “the hood?”

      • Levans says:

“Harry in the Hood”?….yep just as gross as I knew the Fail could be. G-d, they are so unhinged. And yet the BRF wonders why Harry wanted his family to be a million miles away from this mess.

      • mytwocents says:

The DM also said, Harry volunteers in Meghan’s old neighbourhood lol. I don’t think she lived in Compton

      • lanne says:

All black folks live in Compton, you didn’t know? We all carry a little bit of Compton inside of us! When we’re born, we’re issued a blue or red hankchief so that we know our gang affiliation as well.

      • Moxylady says:

        @lanne
        Dead.

  4. Becks1 says:

Good for him, its a great cause and these are the kinds of hands-on events Harry has always liked. He really does look so comfortable in his new life.

    • Ginger says:

He really does. I have always thought Harry was meant to live in California. He seems like he belongs there. I’m really happy for him.

  5. Soupie says:

    ABritGuest,
I hope that comment about him being a hostage was sarcasm or an attempt at humor. I don’t for one second believe that Prince Harry is Meghan’s hostage. I believe that Prince Harry is equally tough as nails as Meghan and they make a very good team.

He looks so relaxed and in his element. Good for him.

    • Sofia says:

Can’t speak for them but I’m guessing it’s sarcasm. There are people on Twitter who think Harry is being held hostage by Meghan so ABritGuest is just using their own theories to make fun of them

    • ABritGuest says:

Yes I was being sarcastic- sorry should have indicated.

Just seen a Fail headline ‘Harry in the Hood’ and claiming Compton was Meghan’s old neighbourhood even though she’s not from Compton and her court filings against them set that out. It’s so bad they have such influence.

    • Jaded says:

I think she was doing a “parody” of the Daily Fail’s racist/misogynist hyperbole.

  6. Elizabeth Regina says:

Let me guess. The headlines are something like ‘straight into Compton’ or some crap like that. The British press are lower than pond scum. I am so glad H and M are living their life regardless. Getting away was the best decision for them.

    • Ines says:

It was something along the lines of “Harry goes to the hood”, or “Harry goes back to the hood”. I just went back to have another look and they changed it to “Prince Harry helps out”

      • Lorelei says:

LMAO they *already* had to change the headline? Good. But it’s not as if we all didn’t see the first one and know what their true feelings are. I can’t wait for the next round of them defending themselves when they’re rightfully called out for being racist, or at the very least using racist terminology in stories like this.

      • Becks1 says:

They changed it?? HAHA that’s awesome. The pushback must have been very strong and immediate.

    • Jegede says:

      You’re close.

      It’s ‘HARRY IN THE HOOD’.😠😠😠😠😠😠

  7. Sofia says:

Good cause. As for why Meghan isn’t here, maybe because she’s pregnant or maybe because veterans and military is more Harry’s passion/interest therefore they decided that he should do it on his own.

  8. Oh says:

Meghan didn’t volunteer with Harry because she is pregnant and resting at home 👀🤞🤞🤞🤞

    • anotherlily says:

Being pregnant will put her into the vulnerable category so she will have to be careful to minimise risks.

  9. Harper says:

He looks great and a good cause.

British press: Can Harry Do Anything Without Being Photographed? Harry’s reputation continues to nosedive as the man who cried he needed privacy is photographed yet again. One must wonder, viewing by her absence, if Meghan is beginning to tire of it as well.

    • equality says:

Since they couldn’t make comments about her not letting him out of her sight and imply he’s a hostage, they have to go with she’s “tiring of it”? You would think that someone who makes a living by using words would understand the meaning of privacy and private life. The press just exposes its own nastiness, bias and ignorance in every article.

  10. tee says:

It’s pretty disappointing the bad wrap they get on other gossip sites for being fame hungry and purely self-interested. A majority of their time in America has been spent reaching out to/volunteering with local groups, using their platform to advocate for the social causes they care about, and working bts on their production deal and nonprofit. But one fake story from the DM, and people are all “these two are so thirsty, so obnoxious, so desperate, failing miserably”. And it’s like, people committed to disliking them seem to live in an alternate universe. They’re not perfect, but they’re completely harmless in the grand scheme and they could have exploited their platforms in much more egregious ways if they were actually those type of people. Anyway, rant over. Glad to see Harry out.

    • lanne says:

People realy get worked up over those two in a way that’s insane. Really, if they were as fame hungry and narcissistic as people claim, where have they been? Where’s their Instagram page with thirsty posts? Where’s their bombshell interview? Where’s their reality show? Those folks are like the MAGAs (and a Venn diagram of both would look like 1 circle): say something, anything, enough times and it becomes true.

Why do’t they just ignore them if they don’t like H and M? They revel in their hatred. They need their hatred–maybe it makes them feel powerful? Important? It’s nuts.

      • Becks1 says:

That’s something I don’t get. These people who hate H&M spend a lot of time reading every story about them, buying books about them, commenting on articles and tweets about them – why spend that much energy on someone you don’t like? And the more they comment and tweet etc – the more the papers and mags will keep running the H&M stories. If you don’t want to read about someone, it seems very….off…to behave in such a way to ensure that that person keeps getting press.

I really just want to tell some of the haters to get a hobby. Go for a walk. read a book. You let these people that you supposedly loathe live in your head rent-free.

      • Myra says:

I bet you if Harry and Meghan were to divorce tomorrow, just like that these comments will stop. I will go so far as to say that they will stop hurling abuse at Meghan, save for some occasional comments here and there. It’s seeing these two people together, doing good, making waves that bother them. They just want to make sure that Meghan’s star doesn’t shine too bright, that she is not too successful.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

H/M literally does nothing harmful to anyone and have never together as a couple done anything harmful with their enormous platform. They would be missing an opportunity if they didn’t help to create awareness in the ways they’ve been electing to do that. Creating awareness for different causes is their public role, which they’ve never shied away from being seen doing. They only ask that their private life outside of the service they perform be respected and everyone is entitled to that. If Harry escaped anything it was his role as senior royal and having to deal with a press determined to toss him under the bus to protect his brother.

      • lanne says:

It’s “How DARE that black b be married to a PRINCE!! And how DARE he give up the ROYAL FAMILY for a black b!” He should be MARRIED TO MEEEEE EVEN THOUGH IM 49 AND MARRIED WITH TEENAGED KIDS. How DARE she impose on MY DAYDREAM OF CURTSEYING TO THE QUEEN AND WEARING A TIARA! My misery is HER FAULT

      • GuestwithCat says:

Well to be honest and fair I can’t stand the BRF but I read all the posts here about them so I can point and laugh at the funny or annoying parts like Kate’s awful buttons and William’s blatant hypocrisy and Betty’s petty ways.

For more serious problems like Kate wasting away before our eyes, I try to be more measured and compassionate or just refrain from posting at all. I can laugh at her cosplay but simultaneously be genuinely concerned for what that life is doing to female married-ins.

And I am never going to miss a chance to look at all the funny hats. Once you’ve seen a princess wear a hat that looks like a toilet seat, it’s impossible to stay away. 🤣

      • Becks1 says:

@guestwithcat – yeah, I obviously post on here a lot about the royals, lol, but I don’t attack them on twitter every chance I get. And even here, I feel like while we make jokes about Kate’s buttons or sausage curls, for the most pat we do try to be more measured about things like possible health issues. It feels different to me than spending your days on twitter insisting that Harry actually *is* a hostage. And I don’t really respond to articles on twitter (or KP announcements etc) about the cambridges, which I guess is where it feels different to me? I don’t attack the Cambridges in the KP twitter or IG, like the anti-Sussex people did for Sussex royal or for ANY charity that posts something relating to H&M.

It’s a narrow distinction and maybe i’m being a blatant hypocrite, but I do think its there.

      • Totally agree Becks1 and GuestwithCat. We can enjoy their insanity and have compassion for the serious issues. I read this site and check out Lainey, and the news feed on my iPad…otherwise, I got nothing to say about them. On the other hand 😎, Harry is looking good: relaxed, fit, and comfortable in his skin.

Just a reminder to everyone that STAND UP FOR HEROES is on American tv tonight. Not sure of station or time, but that is easily looked up.

    • Zazu says:

Tee, what you wrote really sums up my feelings on this topic. They are completely harmless, and probably do good with their advocating. Perhaps there have been certain judgment calls that were a bit impulsive or reactive, but very understandable given the toxic family dynamics and barrage of bigoted media hysteria. I’m disgusted by the Daily Fail heading, love that they had to change it though! It’s great for Harry to do this work and also to draw the contrast between his good work and the hateful commentary they knew would follow.

    • Ginger says:

It just goes to show you how upset the British press are for not getting leaks anymore. These pictures have been up for 5 days and someone stumbled upon them on Instagram.
      It’s all about money.

  11. HK9 says:

Nice to see him out and about, and volunteering. Good on him.

  12. Queen Meghan's Hand says:

Apologies but he looks damn good in those jeans.

  13. Amy Bee says:

I saw one of the royal reporters tweet that Harry was casually dressed at the event and I thought why wouldn’t he be? Kaiser, you make a good point. As a royal he would have been made to wear a blazer or a semi formal outfit to pack groceries. He must be so happy he can just be himself and not have to worry about royal “protocol” anymore.

    • Becks1 says:

Remember Kate in her heels and dress to “pack boxes” or whatever? She looked ridiculous.

    • Snuffles says:

They’re probably secretly mad that they can’t do an affiliate link on whatever he’s wearing to add as another line of profit.

“Harry is wearing…the same old worn out polo shirt, jeans and sneakers he’s been wearing for years.” 😛

I’m sure he does it on purpose. He’s got his Zoom uniform and volunteer uniform and only dresses up for special occasions out of respect.

      • GuestWho says:

I think it was Daniel Radcliff who explained that he wears the same outfit in public all the time because it makes pap photos less valuable – it’s just basically the same picture over and over again. I would guess that’s part of the strategy here.

Thankfully, jeans and a casual polo shirt are a REALLY good look for Harry.

      • Lady D says:

Years ago, Angelina said that’s why she always wears black out in public. It makes the pap pics less valuable, so they give her less grief.

    • booboocita says:

“… jeans, t-shirts, worn polos and loose khakis.”

      The SoCal uniform, baby!

    • mytwocents says:

Amy Bee, it’s just another reason for the press/commentators to insult them and hate them, that their hair isn’t perfect and they don’t look polished. Yet on Remembrance Day when they were dressed up, they got criticized for that as well, ‘who do they think they are, Royals? Why are they so dressed up?’ You simply can’t win with crazy people…

  14. souperkay says:

Those are really good jeans, I mean he looks fantastic. I love that he is still supporting Veterans, as a Veteran myself, there really is this deep connection that forms when you serve.

  15. Emma says:

The thing I’ve noticed is that in the main when Harry and Meghan get involved, they truly get involved. You know, feet on the ground there for an extended period, not just a short zoom meeting at a distance or a photo op and off. Harry was there joining in being part of it, same with Invictus Games. Meghan similar with her Grenfell towers work and the cookbook, she was there multiple times before the launch with the ladies. The clothing range with Smart Works again she was there and engaged.

As a Brit I think they’re a huge loss to our country, we’re left with the lazy and workshy William and Kate. I was looking at Kate’s workload for last month and it’s woeful, even in a pandemic. It’s when our figureheads like Wills and Kate should be out there, keeping morale up during lockdown, leading by example, eg. encouraging and promoting work of our food banks here, wearing masks in public.

  16. WintryMix says:

The replies to that incredibly racist tweet are truly unhinged…just utter nonsense. They really, really don’t get it.

  17. Bree says:

I think he looks good. I think he wants Archie to have the same childhood Zara and Peter had.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Yeah, Archie is the reason H/M are making the moves they’ve been making this last year. They saw the writing on the wall and know that if they don’t get Archie away from his family, he was going to end up trapped in a dysfunctional childhood the way Harry was.

  18. Arb says:

In the hood? Seriously, they need to fuck off.

  19. S808 says:

Harry in the hood????? Seriously???? God I hate British tabloids I wouldn’t even use their papers to wipe my butt.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

That’s the only thing it’s good for – wiping one’s arse. Unfortunately too many people read it because humans can’t look away from a car crash even if it means another accident resulting from them straining to take a look. The British papers, especially DM are awful but people can’t quit reading it because humans are attracted to it’s awful content.

    • Green Desert says:

      So f*cking racist. Disgusting.

  20. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

Harry has the opportunity to do spectacular things for veterans on the USA. I hope he doesn’t waste a single opportunity.

  21. Rianic says:

I hope she’s big pregnant and NONE of Harry’s family knows. Because they would straight up run to the press. I had a friend who didn’t announce she was pregnant till she made the birth announcement, and it wound be amazing if the Sussexes did the same.

    • Nyro says:

I hope so too. I wouldn’t even give the royals the courtesy of informing them before announcing it to the public. Let them be completely blindsided and let the world know just how little they can be trusted.

  22. SO Dumb says:

HARRY IN THE HOOD I hate them I loathe the UK and everybody in it just like I’m sure many hate AmeriKKKa looking from the outside in. 2020 has shown it doesn’t matter what continent there are assholes to ruin it

  23. Abena Asantewaa says:

‘Harry in the Hood’ is so racist! The DM, could not resist this racial undertone. I really hate the dm and virtually all BRIT MEDIA. I bet they hate it that Harry is now having so many Blacks in his life now.

    • GuestwithCat says:

Too bad he wasn’t wearing a hoody. Then the headlines could read: “Royal Family Shame: Harry in a hoody in the hood.” 😜 If they are really going to go there, go allll the way. 🙄

Harry actually has a long association with black communities across the globe going back before he even met Meghan, but it’s like the Royal rota had blinders on about it.

There were a couple of black show hosts, I remember seeing them on YouTube, who pointed out Harry has long been at ease among black people wherever he’s spent time among them, so it should not really be a shock he’s perfectly at home with a black wife.

And they showed some old pictures of him hanging out and having a good time with black people in Africa, presumably his friends in Lesotho associated with Sentebale. He did really look like he belonged with these friends in spirit, if not in race and culture. Seriously, whoever these black friends were, they and Harry showed more unrestrained joy in each other’s company and genuine warmth and love than I’ve ever seen in a photo of Harry with the Royal family aside from ONE picture of him and the Queen looking into each other’s eyes in a moment that was genuine love and pride. And of course the photos of Harry with his mother.

They also played a clip contrasting William’s dad-dance moves with Harry’s much more graceful cool dance moves and made some humorous observations to point out Harry’s always been “a brother” and less a fish out of water away from the aristocracy than William.

I wish I could remember who these guys were. They were addressing all the bad treatment Harry and Meghan were getting due to racism and they were really funny how they went about it. Their overall point was that nobody should have been shocked that he might fall in love and marry a black woman. He didn’t seem to ever have displayed the same mental barriers to the idea as the BRF and the Royal rota after a certain point in his life spent away from the royal fishbowl.

  24. paddingtonjr says:

Harry really looks great! He always seems to look the most comfortable when he can really be just one of the volunteers, working with others and putting the spotlight on the work an organization is doing.

  25. Monica says:

I love how completely casually he’s dressed. He’s loving “normal” life! Willieleaks must be so jealous!

  26. Winterforever says:

He’s all American. The baseball cap and jeans haaaaaaaas to be killing the Meghan-hating Brits right now. Good. Lololol

  27. A says:

That headline is awful. AWFUL. I never have a difficult time believing how racist the British tabloids are, but it’s unbelievable how genuinely despicable they are.

  28. Kynesgrove89 says:

Good for them! Harry is the better royal and all around man. My husband had the chance to serve with Harry briefly and said he is actually a stand up man and soldier. Interesting he did not say the same about Will.

  29. Elizabeth says:

LOVE seeing Harry & Meghan happy and living their lives and doing good

  30. Donna B. says:

I think he might create and/or collaborate on a global scale with ex-military/veterans from around the world. I’m gamed for it. I’m a veteran (active army/air force reserves) & i’m in san diego county, ca. Very supportive of all veteran and/or active duty endeavors.

  31. Donna B. says:

I wonder if one (or more) of their documentaries will focus on their volunteer/philanthropic projects, via, in the states, and/or globally.
