No one knows if the Cambridges will go to Bucklebury for Christmas

The Duchess of Cambridge throws a mock snowball as she takes part in a children's pretend snow ball fight during a Christmas party held at Kensington palace for families and children of deployed personnel from RAF Coningsby and RAF Marham serving in Cyprus. The Duke is Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, which is home to Typhoon Sqns, who currently deploy to Cyprus in support of Op SHADER. RAF Marham have 31 Squadron, who are also contributing to OP SHADER. The event is being supported by The Royal British Legion in recognition of the unique contribution and sacrifices Serving personnel and their families make year round, and especially when they are separated during the festive period. The support of their families and loved ones is vital not only when personnel are serving, but through transition, recovery and civilian life after service, and The Royal British Legion ensures that those family members are supported in return.

As we discussed, the “Royal Christmas” plans for the Windsor clan are all up in the air. The British government has said that only three households can come together for Christmas, max, no exceptions. The Queen has made her own plans to stay in Windsor. And now people are lamenting the idea that the Queen won’t spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Like, it’s not *that* important, but there are now tons of stories about What Will The Cambridges Do. I suggested that Will and Kate will likely invite Kate’s parents to Anmer Hall and they’ll just do Christmas that way, which is how they probably wanted to do it anyway. But Hello Mag suggests that the Cambridges could be headed to Bucklebury, to stay at Middleton Manor.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have spent many a Christmas at Sandringham House with the Queen and members of the royal family in recent years; however the couple’s festive plans are still to be confirmed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Prince William and Kate have also joined the Duchess’ parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her younger siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, during the festive season in the past.

However, under the current relaxation of government restrictions, only three households can mix from Wednesday 23 December to Sunday 27 December, but the bubble must be exclusive over the five-day period, meaning mixing with other households is not allowed. Like millions of families across the nation, the Middletons will also have to decide who to form a Christmas bubble with.

Carole and Michael’s youngest son James and his fiancée Alizee Thevenet stayed with the couple at their home in Bucklebury during the first lockdown in March. The couple, who have had to postpone their wedding this year, have since spent the latter part of this year in Scotland, staying at the stunning Glen Affric estate, which is owned by his sister Pippa’s in-laws.

James and Alizee may opt to remain in the Scottish Highlands throughout the festive period, which would mean that Carole and Michael could form a bubble with their daughters Kate and Pippa and their families.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have only missed Christmas at Sandringham twice in their married life – in 2012 and 2016, they joined the Middletons in Bucklebury instead.

If William and Kate are unable to join the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in Norfolk amid the restrictions this year, they could decide to spend Christmas with Carole and Michael.

[From Hello]

LOL, I always forget about James. I guess he’s part of his own “household” although everything about James is kind of tricky – technically, he lives in Middleton Manor, I think, but he also still lives in the apartment the Middletons own in London, plus he sort of works in Scotland, at Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews’ family estate. Maybe James Middleton is a one-man superspreader? I don’t know or really care that much. I still say that Will and Kate will probably host Christmas at Anmer Hall, with Kate’s parents in tow. James and Alizee will probably be off doing their own thing, and Pippa and TMW James will be off with HIS family. That’s my prediction!

is it a deliberate thing where all publicity shots of Kate has her captured in mid cackle? is it meant to make her come across as friendly, approachable and up for joke?
i ask because the look does her no favours and she looks a little unhinged

    • Amy Bee says:

I think it’s deliberate. Her laughing out loud gets her on the front pages.

    • Osty says:

If its deliberate then her pple should ask the media to stop cos she looks like a hyena here.Kate really always shows the world M facial expressions in public so for all are know the still with the hyena laughs are the only good ones they got

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Its deliberate – she thinks it makes her look engaged with those around and her and the event. If you watch videos you can see that she does this randomly even when no one is around her – she performs for the camera.

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah, I know Kaiser picks these pictures on purpose, but the first time I saw a live video of one of the pictures it was so obvious – she holds the expression for a hot minute to make sure someone gets the shot. Or sometimes if you see a zoomed out shot of one of the pics – no one around her is laughing or even looking at her and she has that expression.

    • Jolie says:

      It’s deliberate here!

    • L4frimaire says:

She really seems to laugh a lot. Don’t exactly consider being giggly a very British trait.

    • Each and every time I see a photograph of Kate, l just think, “slick PR girl who has managed to erase her past. Her uncle, Gary, has powerful connections and seems immune from MSM scrutiny.

  2. Laura says:

    Who cares? Honestly – WHO?

    • Watson says:

I too find it odd that the tabs write about this. Do people really care that much about where they go for Christmas?

    • VS says:

I asked the same question the other day for the queen, who really truly cares? there are people out there who need to know where and how those people spend the holidays?
I assume we will be spare of the H&M not spending the holidays with the queen and her husband as this might be their last blablablabla…….

    • Ann says:

      I honestly don’t know either.

  3. Sofia says:

I can see the Cambridges spending Christmas at Anmer with Kate’s parents and possibly James and his fiancée joining them. That will keep to the 3 households max. Pippa might probably chose to spend it with her in-laws instead.

But yeah only 2 out of 3 of the Middleton kids can spend Christmas with Carole and Mike if that’s what they want

  4. Becks1 says:

Oh I didn’t realize the three household rule and that it had to be exclusive. That means that one Middleton gets left out – unless James has been back in Bucklebury for some time now and will be considered a “household” with his parents? It says they’re in Scotland but maybe they came back?

At any rate – I wouldn’t be surprised if will and kate go to bucklebury and one of the other middleton kids joins – probably pippa so all the kids can be together.

    • Keen Kate says:

It’ll probably be Pippa. James and Alizee can have a lovely Christmas in the Scottish Highlands (which sounds divine).

Deleted…Didn’t see Becks1 post when I posted! (I said the same thing 😊)

  6. Amy Bee says:

Whatever they decide we will find out because one of the tabloids will get the exclusive. The cambridges have to keep feeding that beast or it will turn on them.

  7. Keen Kate says:

“No one knows if the Cambridges will go to Bucklebury for Christmas” and no one cares 😅

I bet Kate is loving that she gets to stay home or go to Berkshire and I wouldn’t blame her.

“Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews” – lol!

  8. Amelie says:

The Middletons sold the apartment Kate and Pippa lived in together in 2019. I just looked at the one Pippa and Kate shared and it was a three story home with two bathrooms and three bedrooms. Alizee and James were seen house hunting a few months back and it’s possible his parents are helping him out but he and Alizee aren’t living in the home Pippa and Kate shared.

But seriously who cares about the Cambridges/Middletons Christmas plans? Just because William and George are the heirs does not mean they have to see Charles and Liz every year.

  9. LittlePenguin says:

If they go to Middleton Manor, will they stage an outdoor walk on Christmas day? Or an outdoor ‘playtime’?

    • Watson says:

My guess is yes, either during the holidays or when they are requiring positive PR cause Meghan has gotten too much attention. This family doesn’t have hard work on their side, so their children are their best assets to gain public interest and positive press. I feel badly for those kids.

  10. Maevo says:

Haven’t Michael and Carole gone to St Barth’s with Pippa’s in-laws in recent years? Wonder if they’ll do that again. Not sure how much travel is restricted though….

  11. Lizzie says:

I’m sure pictures of Kate in a another coat festooned with buttons will make an appearance wherever they are.

  12. L84Tea says:

I must know…is it REALLY called Middleton Manor? Or is that just the fun CB name for it? It always makes me giggle.

  13. yinyang says:

I just came here to say I like that name Bucklebury.

    • Lucky Charm says:

That name always reminds me of the Gerber baby food dessert, blueberry buckle. My youngest sister loved it, and I remember my mom buying it for her for YEARS, lol!

    • Kalana says:

It makes me think of Buckbeak the hippogriff.
