VP-Elect Kamala Harris & Doug Emhoff got the Moderna vaccine yesterday

The Trump Administration promised that something like 20 million Americans would be vaccinated by the end of 2020. The administration has only distributed a little over 11.4 million vaccines and the rollout has been so stupid and disorganized, only 2.12 million have gotten the vaccine. This disastrous early rollout should be laid at the feet of Donald Trump, who has completely abdicated responsibility during the transition because he’s such a salty crybaby loser.

Maybe it always would have been the case that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s administration would have been responsible for the bulk of the rollout, even if the Trumpers were even marginally competent. But now the incoming administration will have to waste time figuring out what exactly went wrong during the transition AND they’ll have to fix it and AND do a real rollout.

As I’ve said before, I don’t think the outgoing Trumpers should be getting the vaccine at all. The priority should be in the incoming administration. Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden got their vaccines last week, and yesterday, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff got the Moderna vaccine. Madame Vice President was double-masked too!

I’m glad this happened and I’m glad it happened publicly. There are already idiot anti-Vaxxers crying about how they’re not going to take the vaccine and blah blah. I need Kamala, Doug, Joe and Dr. Jill to wrap themselves in bubble wrap for a few years and this is a good start.

My brother is getting the vaccine this week because his employer deemed him essential. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m supposed to get the Moderna today because of my job. If there are any left, that is. When the facility runs out, will have to wait for another shipment.

Update! Just got the shot. I got it through a drive-through facility set up in a local park. Staff was wonderful and doing a fantastic job, and the sheer number of people lined up in cars is encouraging. Also, its recommended to wait 20 minutes in the parking lot in case of reaction. Overall, a positive experience.

    • Mumzy says:

Mr. Mumz is a hospitalist who is one of the assigned Corona doctors (they aren’t all, in an effort to minimize risk for staffing purposes) at our local hospital. He got his 1st Moderna several days ago and said he had an achy arm the next day near the site, as he has had with some other vaccines. Other than that, no side effects.

I’m interested in learning more about the Moderna vaccine as apparently it had better trial results for older people.

I cannot wait to see what she does when she takes office – her husband seems like a doll.

I had the Moderna vaccine yesterday morning. The shot itself was painless and I thought it was exceptional that they hold/monitor you for a period of time afterward to insure there was no allergic reaction. I was tired last night but other than a sore arm today, feel great. For the second shot for Moderna, you have to wait at least 28 days. The nurse told me that there was no time restriction on the second shot though, just to make certain that the second one was Moderna.

Awesome! I’m glad essential workers are finally getting the vaccine. I probably have a long wait but I’m not in a rush and can work from home. I don’t understand the anti vax plan at all. Do they just not believe this is real and all healthcare workers are in on the scam for some reason? Is big mask behind it? I understand vaccines can seem scary but what is the alternative, 350,000 dead? Should we just keep letting hundreds of thousands die and healthcare workers stretched to their limits and overflowing hospitals because vaccines are scary? It’s so stupid!

  5. Other Renee says:

My husband is a nurse and he got his first Pfizer shot on Saturday. The wait for the second shot for Pfizer is just three weeks (four for Moderna). His arm was a bit sore but that’s all. Staff worked overtime to ensure that all employees got their shots Friday through Sunday.

I’m a little ragey about my cousin, who yesterday told me she’s going to wait a few months to “see what happens” in terms of the vaccine (side effects). She’s a staunch Democrat. Her own doctor confessed that she felt the same way. My cousin is over 60. I think her doctor was totally irresponsible in not encouraging her to get vaccinated. There is absolutely no medical reason for her not to get the shots.

I told her that “what will happen” if people don’t get vaccinated is that more people will die from the virus.

I talked with my grandparents on Christmas (over Zoom, of course), and my grandma told me that her doctor said that my grandpa should get it (he’s 84), but my grandma shouldn’t (she’s in her late 60’s) and neither should anyone that is young and healthy. WHAT?! I was floored that a healthcare provider would be giving that stupid advice.

I’m scheduled for next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.

  7. MA says:

They should’ve given it to the VP elect earlier. How could those covid denier Republican senators get it before her?

    • lucy2 says:

I wondered that as well, considering she’s still a Senator, plus VP Elect.

Glad to hear people are getting it and not experiencing any bad side effects. Stay safe, all!

  8. Tootsie McJingle says:

I recently found out I’m pregnant and I thought the recommendation for pregnant women is to not get the vaccine for now. Has anyone seen anything different about this? Of course I’m going to be asking my OB as well.

    • Sigmund says:

I would talk to your OB. However, for what it’s worth, my husband got the Moderna vaccine and the printed FAQ provided to him stated that the vaccine is not approved for use in pregnant women. To be clear, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s harmful to a pregnant woman or the baby, just that it hasn’t been tested.

  9. Trillion says:

I’m a COVID nurse and haven’t gotten it yet. And yes, I’m pissed off about it.

  10. Teresa says:

Do you all seriously believe all these VIP people are really getting the vaccine? I highly doubt that. In most cases they are probably having a shot of NaCl or some other harmless fluid just to show off.
I totally believe measures must be taken to stop the pandemic but vaccines take years to develop and control (there is no way to speed up this process). So having blind faith in Pfizer/Biontech or Moderna to be able to come up with a “safe” vaccine so quickly is extremely naive. If the vaccine really is safe it means it had been developed quite some time ago and that sheds a different light to all this Covid-situation.
